Man United's agony: 6 strikers and not a single shot on goal! How could a front six including Angel Di Maria, Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata fail to get a single shot on target in a 1-0 home defeat by Southmapton? Saints sub Tadic sinks United, Arsenal cruise That was the question that Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal would have been wrestling with over his Sunday supper. On paper it looks a formidable array of attacking talent, especially with wing backs Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw providing width on the lush Old Trafford turf. Yet the reality was worrying. Following an impressive climb up the table after a slow start to the season under Dutchman Van Gaal, United have managed only one win in their last five and the goals have dried up. Since a 3-1 win over Newcastle United on December 26, they drew 0-0 with Tottenham Hotspur, 1-1 with Stoke City and on Sunday lost to Southampton in the league for the first time in 27 years. Despite having plenty of possession they created preciou ...

New Year’s Day couldn’t have been any better for a football fan as all 20 teams from the Barclays Premier League were in action on 1January 2014. Manchester United were up against Stoke City while Liverpool entertained Leicester City. Southampton awaited Arsenal and Manchester City were in action against Sunderland. But the big clash of the day was at White Hart Lane between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. The day commenced at the Britannia Stadium where the Red Devils and Stoke played out a 1-1 draw. Radamel Falcao netted the equaliser after Ryan Shawcross had put the Potters into the lead within two first-half minutes. Peter Crouch struck the upright and at the end both sides had to settle for a point. Manchester City looked to return to winning ways and they were made to toil hard for the three points at the Etihad Stadium. Following a goalless first-half Yaya Toure and Stevan Jovetic scored to give the defending champions a two-goal advantage. But Sunderland managed to draw level thanks to two form ...
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has added his voice to calls for changes to the Premier League's breathless festive fixture schedule, in comments reported by several British newspapers on Tuesday. Rooney scored twice in United's 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day, lined up for the 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur less than 48 hours later, and is due to feature against Stoke City on New Year's Day. Europe's other major leagues are currently enjoying a mid-season break and England's traditional festive programme has come under attack, with Sunderland coach Gus Poyet describing it as "a disgrace". Rooney said: "It is not easy playing two games in two days and you do lose a lot of the quality from both teams. "It is difficult. We started so well in the first half (against Tottenham), but in the second half it was tough and hopefully in the future it has to change. "It will probably take someone getting a really bad injury from doing it, which no-one wants to see, but it is very demanding and I th ...

Fabregas chasing records & a first for Manchester United in 85 games.. The Chelsea midfielder has recorded 13 assists after 18 games - the most of any player at the midway point - while Louis Van Gaal named a rare unchanged team against Tottenham Hotspur. THE ARCHITECT In the end, Chelsea saw neither of the Manchester clubs gain on them despite two dropped points at Southampton. The Saints took an early lead and dominated the opening 45 minutes, so much so that Chelsea did not record a single shot until injury time at the end of the first half. Sadly for the home side this opening shot from the league leaders resulted in an equaliser, with Cesc Fabregas once again recording an assist. The former Barcelona man now has 13 assists this season, more than any player has previously managed after 18 Premier League appearances, and as many as anyone recorded in the whole of 2013-14. Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch the EPL online : Source: SBNation.com – All Posts:– Sunday’s early Premier League kickoff sees Spurs play host to Manchester United. Manchester United got off to a wobbly start to the season, though the Red Devils have quickly found form and now look like a dangerous Premier League side once again. Heading into Saturday’s game away at Tottenham Hotspur, Louis Van Gaal’s outfit sit comfortably in a Champions League spot, three points clear of fourth-placed Southampton, and four of West Ham United. However, though Spurs are down in a rather underwhelming seventh place heading into the round, they are only a couple of points adrift of the final Champions League qualification place. Three consecutive wins — though far from hardly convincing, as is Spurs’ wont — have moved Mauricio Pochettino’s side up into the European mix, and with home advantage, they may well fancy their chances of nicking a result. Ke ...
Chelsea and City pass West test as well as Man U and Southamton win . . . . . . . . . . Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United showed their rivals no seasonal cheer on Friday as they consolidated their positions in the Premier League table with one-sided Boxing Day victories. Leaders Chelsea set the tone by overcoming West Ham United 2-0. City followed suit with a 3-1 success at West Bromwich Albion and United kept pace by beating Newcastle United 3-1, with Wayne Rooney scoring twice and making one. Chelsea continue to lead City by three points, with United seven points further back, while West Ham's loss allowed Southampton, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Swansea City and Liverpool to make up ground in the race for the top four. Goals in each half from John Terry and Diego Costa – his 13th of the campaign – earned Jose Mourinho's Chelsea a one-sided home win over West Ham, who slipped to fifth. West Ham were expected to provide a stern test after a run of five games without defeat, but despite . ...

What's your take? Manchester United to make £90m Gareth Bale bid Fresh reports have emerged claiming that Manchester United are ready to offer Real Madrid £90m to secure the signature of Gareth Bale. The Welshman, who joined the Spanish giants from Tottenham Hotspur for a world-record fee last year, emerged as a target for the Red Devils earlier this month. United have been linked with Bale in the past, although having previously missed out to Madrid for his services it was thought that they had been priced out of a move. However, the Daily Star reports that Louis Van Gaal will offer Los Blancos a huge sum to land the forward when the Transfer Window reopens in January, as the Dutchman looks to continue strengthening his squad.

10 questions for the weekend With yet another huge weekend of Premier League football ahead of us, we ponder 10 questions that will be answered by Monday evening ... Can the Saints get back to winning ways at Turf Moor? Southampton were absolutely flying when they travelled to struggling Aston Villa for a Monday Night Football clash last month, only for the south coast club’s form to have dipped alarmingly since then. And while the Saints have had to face the likes of Premier League champions Manchester City, FA Cup winners Arsenal, and high-flying Manchester United in that time, head coach Ronald Koeman will be desperate for his side to get back to winning ways, and quickly, starting with Saturday’s trip to take on relegation-threatened Burnley at Turf Moor. However, the Dutchman will not be fretting just yet given how well Southampton played on Monday evening in their 2-1 home loss to United at St Mary’s. Will Diego Costa end his goalscoring drought against the Tigers? When Diego Costa opened the ...

Manchester United maintained their recent improvement with a fourth successive league win, beating Stoke City 2-1 at Old Trafford with a Marouane Fellaini header and Juan Mata free kick either side of a Steven Nzonzi goal for Stoke. David De Gea guaranteed United held on to the points with two superb saves late in the game. United stay fourth but have 25 points, eight behind leaders Chelsea who host Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, while Liverpool have climbed to eighth place with 20 points. West Ham United remain fifth, a point behind United, after a 2-1 win at West Bromwich Albion, who have now lost their last four matches. James Tomkins headed the winner for the Hammers in first half stoppage time. Liverpool captain Gerrard, 34, left out of the starting line-up on Saturday, was back in the team at Leicester where he rifled home a poor clearance from captain Wes Morgan to turn the balance of the match the Merseysiders' way in the 54th minute. Real Madrid interested in Hugo Lloris Real Madrid are believed to favour a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris over a swoop for Manchester United's David De Gea. The European champions are apparently searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper after becoming concerned by the dipping form of Iker Casillas. They have been linked with both Premier League stoppers, and The Express claims that they are ready to prioritise a move for Lloris as they see him as a more realistic target. De Gea, 24, would reportedly be reluctant to leave United after emerging as a key player for the Red Devils, but Lloris may seek a way out of Spurs should they not qualify for the Champions League this season. The France captain, who moved to White Hart Lane from Lyon for £11m in 2012, is also believed to be a target for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco. Casillas is contracted to Real until 2017 and currently has Costa Rica star Keylor Navas for competition.
Goalkeeper David De Gea has hinted that he will remain at Manchester United by insisting that media speculation about his future cannot be taken seriously. The £19m signing from Atletico Madrid has developed into one of United's most reliable performers after overcoming a shaky start to his Old Trafford career. Reports have claimed that the Red Devils are worried about losing the 24-year-old, who has yet to agree a new contract and has been linked with Real Madrid , but De Gea has insisted that he is focused on United - where he feels "wanted" and "loved". He told reporters: "In Manchester I feel wanted. If you took seriously what is written about you, you'd almost think you're going to a thousand clubs. "So the best you can do is pay attention to where you are. I feel very loved by Man United." The Spaniard's reluctance to leave United has reportedly seen Madrid prioritise Tottenham Hotspur stopper Hugo Lloris in their search for a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas .
Premier League FLASHBACK It was back in 1992 when the top division in English football broke away from the rest of the league to form the inaugural FA Carling Premier League. England Under-21s striker Harry Kane continued his impressive goalscoring form for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday with a free-kick winner against Aston Villa. The 21-year-old has been amongst the goals for both club and country so far this season and his appearance from the bench in the second half at Villa Park helped Spurs come back from behind to collect all three points, courtesy of Kane's first Premier League strike this campaign. Elsewhere, Three Lions goalkeeper Joe Hart kept a clean sheet for Manchester City as they secured a 1-0 derby win over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. Hart kept out, amongst others, the returning Wayne Rooney after the England captain made his return from suspension to the starting line-up for United. Read the full round-up here:

Manchester United returned to the Premier League's top four for the first time in more than a year as Radamel Falcao's first United goal proved decisive against Everton. Angel Di Maria's calm finish gave the hosts a lead that survived to half-time as Leighton Baines saw a penalty saved. Baines picked out Steven Naismith to nod in an equaliser and Falcao cleared a Phil Jagielka header off the line. But Falcao stabbed in from Di Maria's shot to grab the winner. Everton, who have won only one of their first seven league games, could easily have taken something from the game but Bryan Oviedo, who scored the winner in the fixture last season, was denied by a tremendous stoppage-time save from David De Gea. - Chelsea stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points on Sunday when they beat London rivals Arsenal 2-0 as surprise package Southampton went down 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Southampton Dejan Lovren. Mauricio Pochettino is eager to add the centre-back to his squad, and is prepared to rival Arsenal and Liverpool for his signature, according to the Daily Star. Arsenal are looking at as being a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, who is expected to join Manchester United, while Liverpool hope landing Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from Southampton will tempt the 24-year-old to follow their footsteps. But Tottenham have other ideas, and aim to continue their recent history of signing Croatian players, having previously signed Luka Modric, Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka. If Lovren did move to White Hart Lane, he would most likely be a regular and form a defensive partnership with Michael Dawson. Meanwhile, Tottenham look set to add another addition to their defence, as Ben Davies is expected to sign from Swansea City for £8million. The left-back, who has impressed over the last two years in the Premier League, will be Pochettino’s fi ...

Van Gaal, speaking at the Dutch base on the outskirts of Amsterdam, said: “I came very close. Very close. As a little boy I was a fan of Tottenham Hotspur with the team of Jimmy Greaves when he was the champion. Jimmy Greaves was my idol. So I was very close. I was a fan of Spurs during my childhood. Those fantastic white shirts and Jimmy Greaves.” The Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, visited Van Gaal in December, but he turned down the initial approach and then chose United over the North Londoners when Moyes was dismissed in April.

Willie Young was born on the 25th of November in 1951, is a Scottish former footballer. A large, physically intimidating centre back from Edinburgh, Young first played for Aberdeen, and made 187 appearances for the Dons between 1970 and 1975. He was signed by Tottenham Hotspur in September 1975, and made 54 appearances for Spurs in two seasons. In March 1977, Young signed for Spurs' arch rivals Arsenal. Young immediately became a regular in the Arsenal first team, and played in all of the Gunners' trio of FA Cup finals; after losing to Ipswich Town in 1978, Young was on the winning side the following year, with a 3–2 defeat of Manchester United. Young continued to be Arsenal's first choice centre back until the 1981–82 season, when he lost his place to Chris Whyte. Having played 237 times for Arsenal, the 30 year old Young then joined Nottingham Forest in December 1981 for £50,000, and played 59 times over two seasons there. In 1983 he joined Norwich City, but with injuries dogging him, he failed to ...
Manchester United are reportedly ready to compete with rivals Liverpool for the summer signing of Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka . The Merseyside outfit failed to land the 24-year-old in January, despite sending representatives to Ukraine on deadline day to try to conclude a deal. They were believed to be confident of beating Tottenham Hotspur to his services for next season, but now United have seemingly joined the race for the pacey wideman. According to The Mirror, the Red Devils scouted Konoplyanka in Dnipro's league match on Sunday and are willing to meet his £12m buyout clause once given the green light by new manager Louis Van Gaal . Konoplyanka scored four goals in his seven Europa League appearances for Dnipro this campaign.

All those hating on Arsenal and making jokes about how 9 years is a long time between trophies, remember this: Manchester City went 35 years between winning major trophies, from the 1976 League Cup to the 2011 FA Cup. Liverpool has not won the league since 1990. Newcastle United has not won a major trophy since 1969. Manchester United went 26 years without winning the league from 1967 until they ended their drought by winning the newly formed Premier League in 1993. Tottenham Hotspur has not won the league since 1961. Have a nice day :)
Liverpool's pursuit of Adam Lallana could be derailed by potential bids now from Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspur.
Ryan Giggs is adamant that Manchester United will not be selling Danny Welbeck during the summer Transfer Window. Recent speculation claimed that Welbeck was considering his future at United after playing on the wing for large parts of the season under former manager David Moyes. The 23-year-old has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, but interim boss Giggs does not envisage Welbeck moving on in the summer. "We won't be selling him, we showed that the other night that bringing young players through is an important part of the club's culture and history. "We wouldn't like to lose someone like Danny because he has done that, he has been here since eight or nine. So we want to keep him." [Source: Skysports]

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON When dad was still in the army, 7 year-old son said he wanted to be a policeman when he grew up. No one was sure whether he said that from watching his dad went to work in his uniform or from watching the popular television series CHiPS (1st pic) about two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers; probably a little bit of both. When son knew dad was a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, he too became a Spurs supporter though 98% of the youths his age became Manchester United supporters. At the start of the 1986 World Cup when dad casually mentioned that the best footballer in the world then was Diego Maradona (2nd pic), the 11 year-old son followed Maradona on every sport news and was not disappointed when he watched Maradona captained Argentina to win the World Cup, including the famous ‘Hand of God’ goal and FIFA’s ‘Goal of the Century’ when Maradona dribbled half the length of the field past five England players to score (son was in secondary school, dad took him for ches . ...

Full time at Britannia Stadium, and it has finished with Tottenham Hotspur claiming a valuable three points in the quest to secure at least Europa League football next season as they held out Stoke City 1-0. Danny Rose's 32nd minute goal would prove to be the gamewinner, but the Spurs left back would be part of the major incident of the second half, which saw Stoke's Danny Shawcross sent off for a second bookable offence for a challenge on Rose, which really made him and the referee public enemy number one to the very loud and partial Potters supporters. It was a match that rarely reached an great heights, but it is three points in the bank on a frustrating afternoon at the Brittania. Holland coach Louis Van Gaal faces a choice between taking the Tottenham Hotspur job now or waiting for a Manchester United chance.
UPDATE: Liverpool attacker Luis Suarez continues to lead the race for the European Golden Shoe with a one-goal lead over second-placed Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, but Lionel Messi’s fine form for Barcelona in recent weeks has seen last year’s winner storm into the top three. Suarez proved unable to find the net in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over West Ham United, while Ronaldo sat out Madrid’s victory over Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, Messi added two goals to his tally as Barcelona thumped Betis 3-1 at the weekend and has now closed the gap with Suarez to four, level with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa. Patrice Evra has backed Manchester United to surprise holders Bayern Munich and progress to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. United and Bayern won their respective domestic leagues last season, though the fortunes of the two European giants have contrasted vastly this term. Tottenham Hotspur's rapidly unravelling season took another twist today with first team coach Tim Sherwood set to be repla ...
Tottenham Hotspur wants to replace Tim Sherwood this summer and Van Gaal has be contacted to take over the managerial job. However Van Gaal looking to stall the talks, as he remains hopeful to take over David Moyes at Manchester United.
The Rebuilding of Liverpool The long wait to win a Premier League championship might finally soon be over for Liverpool. After standing as English soccer’s marquee club for generations — including winning a record 18 titles in the old First Division — Liverpool have failed to win a league championship since 1990. With an eight-game Premier League winning streak that has included comfortable wins over Arsenal (5-1), Manchester United (3-0), and most recently Tottenham Hotspur (4-0), the club now controls its own destiny. If it wins each of its six remaining fixtures, the league championship will again return to Merseyside. This is heady stuff for a club that received virtually no attention before the season. Strike that — no positive attention. I’m sure somebody out there suggested otherwise, but as a reasonable indicator of context, zero of the 11 experts polled by the Guardian and exactly nil of the 13 surveyed by the Daily Mirror predicted Liverpool would be the champion. In fact, the 13 write ...

Liverpool title destiny? Eerie parallels between this season and Shankly's first title It has been a monumental season so far for Liverpool, laced with a sense that this is a team not only poised to return to the Champions League, but one that can land the title following a lean period stretching back to 1990. The timing with which Liverpool have hit top gear and jumped to the summit of the table is reminiscent of their title-winning side 50 years ago – a side which brought the club not only its sixth top-flight success, but also the first of Bill Shankly’s reign, ushering in a period where Liverpool rose to become kings of English and then European football. The parallels between the two sides could well be a good omen for the current side… 1963/64 - Liverpool go top of the table on 30 March having beaten Tottenham Hotspur (3-1 at White Hart Lane), and stay there until the end of the season - Liverpool completed a league double over Manchester United, winning 1-0 and 3-0 - Shankly’s side put five ...

HOW THE PFA TEAM OF THE YEAR MAY LOOK LIKE. As the season draws to a close it's getting towards the PFA Team of the Year announcement and this term it could be really close to decide who gets in. A lot has changed in the last 12 months; Jose Mourinho has returned as Chelsea manager, Manchester United have had their worst campaign to date and are not even close to defending their Premier League title and Liverpool could win the championship for the first time since 1990. This transition makes me feel that the Team of the Year is going to look a lot different to that of the 2012/13 campaign - which for those of you interested. I expect there to be wholesale changes from this starting XI, not least because the Red Devils quartet (barring David De Gea) have all been relatively poor and Juan Mata is now struggling at Old Trafford himself. As for the Tottenham Hotspur duo, Gareth Bale has since become the most expensive player of all time and left for Real Madrid, whilst Jan Vertonghen has been in and out of a ...
NEWS AT THIS HOUR !!! Chelsea are keen to sign Atletico Madrid's Spain international striker Diego Costa, 25, in a £40m summer deal. Christian Benteke's Aston Villa future won't be certain until after the World Cup, the 23-year-old Belgium international's agent has claimed. Tottenham Hotspur hope to beat Liverpool to the signing of Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi, 21. Southampton and England left-back Luke Shaw, 18, is a target for Real Madrid, who are confident of beating Chelsea and Manchester United to sign him. Borussia Dortmund are pondering a move for Spurs defender Vlad Chiriches, 24, who is valued at £8m. Spurs and Arsenal are vying for the services of Nuremberg's Switzerland international striker Josip Drmic, 21, who has scored 11 times for the Bundesliga outfit this season. Netherlands boss Louis Van Gaal would be an ideal manager for Manchester United if David Moyes is sacked, according to Ajax youth coach and former Dutch international Ronald de Boer. But United are sticking by Moyes despite f ...
Manchester City will look to compound Arsene Wenger's woes when they visit the Emirates Stadium this weekend, knowing a win would take them closer to the Premier League title and inflict a potentially fatal blow to Arsenal's chances. Wenger's side have capitulated in recent weeks and a win for Manuel Pellegrini's team in London would almost certainly leave the battle for the Premier League crown as a three-way race between City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Arsenal, humiliated 6-0 at leaders Chelsea and held to a 2-2 home draw by Swansea City after conceding a last-minute equaliser on Tuesday, would have hoped for an easier match to revive their ailing title bid. City lie third with 66 points, three behind Chelsea but with two games in hand, and they will look to build on their impressive 3-0 win at bitter local rivals Manchester United on Tuesday. Jose Mourinho's Chelsea travel to struggling Crystal Palace and second-placed Liverpool, only a point off the top on 68 points, host Tottenham Hotspur. It is 10 year ...
Carrick: We suffer like you Michael Carrick is standing in a narrow alley, behind the main stand at Upton Park in east London. His return to the ground where he was given his big break as a professional footballer, where he first showed glimpses of the form and talent that would later lead him, via an impressive spell at Tottenham Hotspur, to Manchester United has been a happy one. The Reds have won 2-0, he’s caught up with some old friends and Wayne Rooney has scored the sort of goal they’ll still be talking about in these parts long after West Ham have upped sticks and taken possession of the keys to their new home, four miles down the road. Now, on his short journey from the stadium door to the team coach parked in the adjacent car park, Carrick is taking time out to speak to three journalists - this reporter included - and appears to be enjoying talking about the match. And then we go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like “Liverpool”. At this point, Michael Carrick’s face is proof ...

Rodgers allowed his players to take five days' rest during the enforced hiatus and he's hopeful that can play a part in helping his side continue their record of ending winless streaks at the homes of opposing sides, just as they have done at Tottenham Hotspur, Stoke City and Southampton already this term. He told his pre-match press conference at Melwood: "It'll be another marker for us. We've had a number of those statistics this year. We hadn't won away at Tottenham for quite a while and we performed there. We hadn't won at Southampton, which is a re ...

No margin for error on Super Sunday in the when Manchester United face Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur play Arsenal. Who do you think will come out tops?
PAPER TALK: Manchester United have joined Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in a three-way fight for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, and Patrice Evra could join Inter Milan.
Robbie Fowler has credited Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers with restoring a fear factor in his team as they prepare to cross swords with fierce rivals Manchester United at the weekend. The Northern Irishman's charges travel to Old Trafford with an 11-point cushion on their opponents - an incredible swing of 40 points in the Reds' favour in comparison to the same stage of last season. A Daniel Sturridge header settled the previous league meeting between the two sides earlier in the campaign, while the Red Devils claimed some revenge by taking the spoils in a subsequent League Cup tie. But having watched his former club systematically dismantle Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, Fowler believes the visitors should be favourites on Sunday. He told the Liverpool Echo: "It's always a massive game but the difference this time is that Liverpool must be favourites. I can't remember the last time a Liverpool team went to Old Trafford in that position. "On paper it's a game Liverpool should win ...
EPL TEAM OF THE WEEK The Premier Leagueproduced no shortage of talking points over the weekend with an important win for Manchester United while Chelsea extended their lead at the top by thrashing Tottenham Hotspur. There were also important wins for Cardiff Cityat the other end of the table while the impressive Southampton ground out three points away at Crystal Palace. Here’s our team of the week based on the weekend. GK – Petr Cech (Chelsea) Cech was commanding and comfortable against Tottenham never really putting a foot wrong, which gave his defence confidence. RB – Rafael (Manchester United) Looked more like the player who starred for Sir Alex Ferguson against West Brom. Got forward well but was defensively difficult to get the better of. CB – Chris Smalling (Manchester United) Following a poor performance for England last week, Smalling responded brilliantly dealing with every threat West Brom put together. CB – Steven Caulker (Cardiff City) Caulker bagged himself a brace during the win a ...

We must always remember that one poor season doesn't mean that a manager won't turn it all around . The 1989-1990 season was the season when the Manchester United board held its nerve. Despite wholesale changes in personnel, Alex Ferguson struggled to create a winning team. As supporters called for his dismissal, the board stood by him, his team won the FA Cup and the successful nineties began. Lots of money was made available at the start of the season. Neil Webb, Mike Phelan, Gary Pallister, Paul Ince, Danny Wallace and Les Sealey all moved to Old Trafford. Inevitably the newcomers took time to settle. Despite an opening day 4-1 victory against league champions, Arsenal, the season didn’t begin particularly well. Four games were lost by the end of September, including one against Manchester City that City won 5-1. In October, Tottenham Hotspur knocked Manchester United out of the League Cup with a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford. The club’s league form in mid-winter was desperate. Between the end of Nov ...

Manchester United manager David Moyes has reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon as a surprise summer transfer target. The Red Devils boss is expected to have a £200m war chest to improve his heavily-criticised squad at the end of what is likely to be the club's worst ever Premier League season. Football Direct News understands that he intends to use a small chunk of this figure to try and tempt Spurs into selling Lennon, who has been a regular since his £1m switch from Leeds United in 2005. Moyes has apparently been a fan of the 26-year-old's pace and directness since he was in charge of Everton and sees him as a better option than Antonio Valencia on United's right wing. Lennon has scored one goal in 22 games in all competitions for Spurs this season.
Coward Webb criticsm : Webb was handed a one-week demotion to the Football League Championship from officiating in the Premier League in April 2009 — a punishment sporadically imposed on referees who make high-profile contentious errors. Webb had earlier been appointed to referee the 2009 FA Cup final, the highest domestic honour for an official, when he awarded Manchester United a debatable penalty kick while they trailed 2–0 to Tottenham Hotspur. The penalty was converted and United went on to win the match 5–2. Webb later admitted he had made "a mistake" but had awarded the penalty "honestly". Earlier in that year, Webb was in charge of an FA Cup tie between Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. During the first half, Webb declined to award Birmingham a penalty when Richard Stearman appeared to foul Marcus Bent. He later admitted this decision was a mistake. In the second half, Webb accidentally blocked a Radhi Jaïdi pass on the halfway line, gifting possession to Wolverhampton's Michael ...

Bent denies United, Spurs sink Everton 09 February 2014, 20:06 An injury-time goal from Fulham's Darren Bent inflicted more pain on champions Manchester United as the bottom club rescued a 2-2 Premier League draw on Sunday, adding fuel to the fire for manager David Moyes's critics. It was a further blow to United's hopes of securing Champions League football next season and left them nine points behind Liverpool in fourth spot and six adrift of Tottenham Hotspur who beat Everton 1-0 with a goal from Emmanuel Adebayor. Late strikes from Robin Van Persie and Michael Carrick helped United cancel out Steve Sidwell's opener and evoked some of the never-say-die attitude that characterised former manager Alex Ferguson's long spell at the club. However, the uncertainty that has plagued the new regime came back to bite them as Fulham substitute Bent headed in at the far post to nick a point in the 94th minute. "Today was as bad as it gets," a shell- shocked Moyes told Sky Sports television. "We dominated the game. ...

Arsène Wenger is adamant that Arsenal can defy both their doubters and the ominous form of Manchester City to win their first Premier League title for a decade. Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Crystal Palace yesterday meant they moved back above City and also cemented a likely top-four finish after Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur all dropped points this weekend. City will return to the top if they beat Chelsea tonight and are clear favourites to win the Premier League following a sequence of 27 goals in eight successive wins. It was put to Wenger last night that no one outside of Arsenal expects them to win the title. “In the last seven years you have engraved that in your brain,” he said. “It’s hard to get out now. We haven’t done it for a while. I must say we face quality competitors. We do not play against average teams. City have scored over 100 goals, so everyone thinks 'can you beat this team?' I say yes. It’s now how we finish the season.”

Stoke City enjoyed a first league win over Manchester United since Boxing Day 1984 after Charlie Adam's double clinched a 2-1 victory at the Britannia Stadium. Yohan Cabaye transfer highlights lure of the superpower The news that Yohan Cabaye will be returning to France with Paris St Germain has come as a bitter blow to Newcastle United and everybody around the club. Particularly stinging is that they were helpless to stand in his way. Hopping from the challenge of securing European football to that of winning a league title, there was never going to be any chance of keeping him once the superpowers came calling. Not for the last time will a club as passionate and popular as Newcastle lose a prodigal son to the elite of world football. The pangs of sympathy at losing such a marvel like Cabaye will not help the club grieve for the talent that will now need replacing with just days of the Transfer Window remaining. The simple fact remains that once the big guns come calling, that’s it. In the modern era, the lure of the footballing superpower is at an all-time high. Famous cases of the past include Dimitar Berbatov leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Manchester United ...

Jonny Evans says that he is confident that Manchester United will recover from their New Year's Day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
New Year hangover. Manchester United started the game very positively and put Tottenham Hotspur under real pressure in the first 15 minutes but it was Spurs who scored first with a well placed header from Emmanuel Adebayor. United weren’t clinical enough going forward and were punished on the counter attack as Christian Eriksen headed in a second after a lapse in concentration from Antonio Valencia allowed him to sneak in front of him to finish. After the second goal went in, United came alive with an instant response from Danny Welbeck and finally started to threaten Spurs. It was all systems go then but a catalogue of decisions going against us, and a number of saves from Hugo Lloris, kept us out and gave Spurs their second win at Old Trafford in a row. The loss puts an end to United’s winning streak and Spurs have now become the latest team to win at Old Trafford. What has happened to the fear factor? Where was the momentum? United should have been buzzing going into this game against Tottenham. Tw ...

Preview: United v Spurs (manutd.com) Form guide: Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford in the midst of an impressive run of form, having recorded six consecutive victories in all competitions. The Reds hope to improve that sequence against Spurs, who have been going through a time of transition following the sacking of manager Andre Villas-Boas on 16 December and subsequent appointment of Tim Sherwood. Since officially taking over, the former midfielder has guided the club to a draw with West Brom and a victory over Stoke. Prior to those results, Sherwood was caretaker boss for their last away match, an encouraging 3-2 win at Southampton. Ins and outs: Wayne Rooney will undergo a late fitness test after missing Saturday’s trip to Hull City with a groin strain, but Antonio Valencia is available after serving his one-match suspension. Man United reach League Cup semis unitedLONDON: Manchester United beat Stoke City 2-0 to reach the League Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, while the post-Andre Villas-Boas era at Tottenham Hotspur began with defeat by West Ham United. After a first-half hailstorm briefly forced the teams off the pitch at the Britannia Stadium, United prevailed through fine strikes from Ashley Young and Patrice Evra. Their reward was a semi-final tie against Sunderland, 2-1 victors over Chelsea on Tuesday, while West Ham will play Manchester City, with the first legs of both ties due to be played in the week beginning January 6. “The first goal tonight, whoever got it was going to make a big difference,” United manager David Moyes told Sky Sports. “It was a tight game. We had some good play at times. We hadn’t created too many chances, but I didn’t think Stoke City created too many chances either.” On the prospect of facing Sunderland, he added: “It’s a cup game. The FA Cup third-round draw has handed Arsenal a North London derby with neighbours Tottenham Hotspur at Emirates Stadium. Cup holders Wigan Athletic were given a home draw with Milton Keynes Dons while last year's beaten finalists Manchester City will go to Blackburn Rovers. Of the non-league sides, Macclesfield were drawn at home to Sheffield Wednesday, Grimsby will take on Huddersfield Town at Blundell Park and Kidderminster have a home tie against Peterborough. Manchester United face Swansea City at Old Trafford while Chelsea will travel to Derby County. Liverpool will face a home tie against either Mansfield, who they beat in the third round last season, or Oldham Athletic, who knocked them out in the fourth. But the stand out tie is the North London derby and both sides will be hoping to go all the way. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger concedes his side could have been handed an easier first hurdle. Alan Pardew has warned the rest of the Premier League that Newcastle United are very much a “dangerous” proposition these days. The victory over champions Manchester United goes with triumphs over big-spending Tottenham Hotspur and José Mourinho’s Chelsea – with all three tipped to be in the hunt for the title at the start of the campaign. The Magpies also nicked a point against second-placed Liverpool with 10 men earlier in the campaign and Pardew feels that his side are starting to show their quality. After becoming the first manager since Joe Harvey in 1972 to win a game against the Red Devils at Old Trafford, Pardew said: “It’s the top teams we have done well against this year. “Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and now Man United. “This team were asked to play a very different way and they answered that. “We can change our tactics and win. We can feel confident to do that. And that makes us dangerous.” Pardew operated with a packed midfield against Man United and it worked a treat as ...
Good morning everyone, and we begin the morning with news from the Adelaide Oval that Australia has declared their second innings at 3/132, a lead of 530 runs. While it seems a very odd time, it is weather that is apparently a factor in Michael Clarke's decision to put England into bat first up this morning, with storms scheduled this afternoon. Dave Warner finished 83 not out, while Steve Smith was 25 not out. 10 wickets for Australia to lead the Ashes series 2-0, and red hot favourites to win back the urn for the first time since 2007. Alastair Cook and Michael Carberry are about to face the first ball, with a minimum of 180 overs to survive. In other news from overnight, if you missed the Barclays Premier League last night, it was an exciting night of upsets, goals and great football, with Manchester United and Chelsea in shock upsets, while Manchester City drew with Southampton. Luis Suarez scored four goals as Liverpool thrashed Norwich City on a night when the top five extended their advantage over much of the chasing pack. • Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham Premier League leaders Arsenal continued their excellent start to the season by beating Hull City, Chelsea recorded a hard-fought victory at Sunderland and Manchester City brushed aside their poor away record to beat West Bromwich Albion. Fifth-placed Everton, meanwhile, kept pace with their city rivals as Roberto Martinez got the better of David Moyes with a 1-0 win at Manchester United as Newcastle United and Southampton also suffered disappointing losses that allowed Tottenham Hotspur to move up three places to sixth. Suarez was the star of the show as Liverpool bounced back from their defeat at Hull to win 5-1 against Norwich at Anfield. Onus on City to chase Arsenal - Mourinho Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes the pressure is on Manchester City to lead the way in this season's Premier League title race. Mourinho thinks that there are six contenders to win the championship, but he has warned Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur that they could find themselves cut adrift if they allow the gap to leaders Arsenal to grow. And while the Portuguese insists there are no clear favourites, he feels that the strength of City's squad gives Manuel Pellegrini's side an advantage. "I keep saying the same. I don't think we can speak about favourites but we can say that one team is top of the league and some are a little bit far, but I keep thinking that all six teams are title contenders," he said on Tuesday.

Derby County’s credentials as Championship promotions contenders under Steve McClaren were as enhanced they moved into the play-off places with a victory which owed much to their tenacity as their quality on the ball. Simon Dawkins, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, inspired the victory, scoring one goal and having an influence in both the others as the Rams climbed up to fifth place - their highest yet in the season. However, it was the strength of character to see off a spirited Wigan fightback in the second half after Manchester United loan striker Nick Powell had pulled a goal back which pleased McClaren most. “What we have done is tighten up and become more resilient as a team,” said the Former England manager. “I thought we controlled the game from start to finish. At 3-0 it could have been more. “This was a test coming here and the players have taken advantage.” Craig Bryson opened the scoring with a sublime curling free-kick in the third minute which had been won by Dawson, who doubled t ...
Andre Villas-Boas hit back at criticism from Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Alan Sugar after his team's 2-2 draw with Manchester United, claiming that the 66-year-old was not a true Spurs fan because of the manner in which he had sold the club 12 years ago.
Dear Mr Robert Love, After today’s difficult situation, I believe it is my duty to offer you an apology for wasting your precious time. At approximately 12:50pm on the 1st of December 2013, the teams of Manchester United (Yourself) and Tottenham Hotspur (Myself) lined up on the hallowed Old Trafford turf ready and waiting in expectation of what was about to unfold. Little did we, or anybody else in the stadium for that matter, know that this game was going to change the face of FIFA 14 history forever. In the 2nd minute the Portuguese starlet Nani sprung out the traps and quite literally shell shocked my defensive line. This left my defence in total disarray to which I feel they never really recovered. On the 13th minute mark, a defensive mix up between Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghen allowed Michael Carrick to emphatically power home a corner. This is when the realisation sat in and I knew I was in for a long 6 minute half-length game. As the minutes passed, goals kept flowing. Whether they be from t ...

David Moyes has challenged Wayne Rooney to continue to play with “fire in his belly”, despite admitting the Manchester United forward was fortunate to escape a red card for the latest eruption of his temper during Sunday’s draw at Cardiff City. With Robin Van Persie sidelined with a groin problem that threatens to rule the Dutchman out of Sunday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur, Rooney will lead United’s attack against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany on Wednesday, three days after receiving just a yellow card for kicking out at Cardiff midfielder Jordon Mutch. Having seemingly tamed his fiery temperament since his last dismissal, during England’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro in 2011, Rooney has become a central figure under Moyes since the Former Everton manager succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford this summer. But with the incident at Cardiff once again exposing the darker side of Rooney’s on-field persona, Moyes insists he wants the 28-year-old to continue to play with passion and aggre ...

Manchester United have been named the most influential Football Club brand in the world, ahead of their arch rivals were praised for their huge commercial presence and for being the best at maximising retail partnerships. Judges casting their eye over sports brands for the website licensing.biz said United's impact continued regardless of their success on the football field. One judge said the club, who are currently fifth in the Premier League following victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford yesterday, was “the only truly global British football brand.” Another added: “You can't argue with that success and it is genuinely international.” United, who have a successful London office dealing with commercial operations, have struck sponsorship deals with numerous companies over the past year. Companies such as Bwin, Toshiba Medical Systems, Santander, MBNA and Fuji TV have been keen to be associated with the Old Trafford giants. A world record deal with General Motors for Chevrolet to be their shirt sp ...
Sascha Riether was banned using trial by video for stamping on Adnan Januzaj because the match officials did not witness the specific “coming together” of the players, the Football Association revealed on Friday. The FA published the written reasons of the three-man regulatory commission which punished Fulham defender Riether with a three-match suspension on Wednesday, explaining why the panel did so when Fernando Torres escaped action over a similar incident just over a month earlier. Fulham had challenged whether the FA had exceeded its authority in charging Riether because, despite the officials declaring they had not seen his stamp on Manchester United winger Januzaj on Saturday, referee Lee Probert had been running towards the incident and even blew his whistle the moment it took place. The London club felt that placed it in the same category as Chelsea striker Torres’s scratch on Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen in September, which the FA said it could not act upon because one of the ...

1) Arsenal must now repeat Liverpool performance at Old Trafford One of the principle narrative strands before Arsenal took on Liverpool at Emirates Stadium ran loosely along the following lines: Arsenal had yet to play any contenders in the Premier League, apart from Tottenham Hotspur at home, and their start had actually compared unfavourably to the points that they took from the corresponding fixtures last season. Moreoever, when they faced Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, they had lost. Defeat to Liverpool would have led to a forensic examination of their credentials against the fancied clubs and, doubtless, plenty of angst. But Arsenal won, they won really well and now, the whispers are about whether they might stay the title course. They would become louder if they got a result at Manchester United on Sunday. This is a time of palpable excitement for Gooners. • Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool: read the match report 2) Are Norwich waiting in the wings for Mackay? ...
United may slip; Noble & Townsend shining Andros Townsend: Hoping to maintain his form at Aston Villa £10 completely free bet A potential banana skin for Manchester United, and the impressive stats of Mark Noble and Andros Townsend feature in our weekend preview. Noble deed West Ham United may have failed to score in four of their last seven Premier League matches but it is not due to a lack of trying. Keep an eye on Mark Noble against Manchester City on Saturday evening - the midfielder has created more goalscoring chances than any other in the Premier League so far this season. Noble has created 17 chances for his team-mates and therefore poses a great threat to City. Ravel Morrison may be the man making all the headlines in the centre of West Ham's midfield but Noble is the one City should beware. Pete Fraser All the right reasons It seems a long time ago that Tottenham Hotspur were dependent on Gareth Bale. Winger Andros Townsend is now dominating news agendas due to his impressive performances for E ...
Five desperately needed Premier League transfers Chelsea - Centre-forward Jose Mourinho just can't seem to get his strikers firing at the moment and when Fernando Torres looked a little like his old self against Tottenham Hotspur, he gets sent off and then suffers an injury to rule him out for a few weeks. Samuel Eto'o is yet to get the hang of the Premier League and, at the age of 32, might find getting back up to pace a lot harder than a younger man - which is probably what Chelsea need. A young hungry striker like Robert Lewandowski would be ideal for the Blues, as he would provide a formidable spearhead for an extremely creative group of attacking midfielders. Manchester United - Defensive midfield David Moyes' side have been conceding some sloppy goals and the back four is being exposed repeatedly. Michael Carrick is a fine deep-lying playmaker but is not the archetypal shield in front of the defence. A player like Daniele de Rossi would provide a defensive instinct in midfield, as well as technical ...
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is reportedly wanted in January by Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea career On moving to Stamford Bridge, Fernando Torres took over the vacant number nine jersey, but took 14 games before he found the net, a joyously received effort on a sodden Stamford Bridge pitch against West Ham. It remained his only goal for the Blues that season but with a rare summer of recuperation following, hopes were high that 2011/12 would see the Fernando Torres that tormented Chelsea so much when he was wearing red. His start had been encouraging, with an opening day display at Stoke which lacked only a goal. That eventually came at Old Trafford in a 3-1 defeat against Manchester United, but his afternoon will be remembered not for the instinctive flick over David De Gea's head but the missed open goal that followed in the closing stages. The Spaniard bounced back quickly to open the scoring against Swansea with a smart touch and finish though, but he was then sent off, forcing him to miss three domestic games. In Europe though, he then netted twice in the 5-0 Champions League victory ...
Since the inception of the English football league competition, the Premier League,[a] in 1992, more than 100 players have scored three goals (a hat-trick) or more in a single match. The first player to achieve the feat was Frenchman Eric Cantona, who scored three times for Leeds United in a 5–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Twenty players have scored more than three goals in a match; of these, four players, Andrew Cole, Alan Shearer, Jermain Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov have scored five. Robbie Fowler holds the record for the quickest Premier League hat-trick, netting three times against Arsenal in 4 minutes 23 seconds,[1] while, in 1999, Manchester United player Ole Gunnar Solskjær scored four goals in twelve minutes as a substitute against Nottingham Forest, "the fastest scorer of a four-goal haul on record in England".[2] The fixture between Arsenal and Southampton at Highbury in 2003 saw both Jermaine Pennant and Robert Pirès score a hat-trick for the home team. In 2007, Blackburn's Roque Santa C ...
Chelsea star Kevin De Bruyne faces uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been sent to train with the reserves by Jose Mourinho, and is seemingly being frozen out by the Portuguese manager. The Belgian star was widely praised for his performances at the beginning of the season, starting matches against Hull City and Manchester United, but like Juan Mata before him, now appears to be out of Mourinho’s plans. De Bruyne was not included in the match squad to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, will not travel with the Blues to Romania to face Steaua Bucharest in the UEFA Champions League. After a brilliant campaign on loan at Werder Bremen last season, the Daily Mail report that De Bruyne was personally convinced by Jose Mourinho not to leave Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis again. Still just 22 years of age, De Bruyne now has work to do if he is to revive his Chelsea career. -Andy-

Ronald night of goals Ronaldo shines in goals bonanza night Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick for Real Madrid illuminated an opening night goals bonanza as the leading contenders began the Champions League group stage with a bang on Tuesday. Thirty goals rained in around Europe with Real trouncing Galatasaray 6-1 in Istanbul, holders Bayern Munich winning 3-0 at home to CSKA Moscow and Manchester United putting four past Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford. Paris St Germain fired a warning that they will be a real threat with a 4-1 victory away to Olympiakos Piraeus while Manchester City won 3-0 at Czech outsiders Viktoria Plzen. Ronaldo's reign as the world's most expensive footballer ended this month when Real paid Tottenham Hotspur €100 million for Gareth Bale but he underlined his role as chief conductor of Los Blancos with a dazzling display. Bale, who is still building up his match fitness after missing most of pre-season, had the honour of becoming the world's most costly substitute until he joined the ...
Manchester United vs Bayer Leverkusen KO 19:45 For United this is their 18th consecutive UEFA Champions League campaign but for Moyes, it is his first taste of the group stage of a competition that the English title holders won twice under his predecessor, Sir Alex Ferguson. This is also the first UEFA Champions League fixture as a coach for Leverkusen's Sami Hyypiä, a winner as a player with Liverpool FC in 2005. Previous Meetings; Leverkusen overcame United on away goals when the clubs met for the first time in the 2001/02 semi-finals. That tie began with a 2-2 first-leg draw at Old Trafford, United leading twice through a Boris Živković own goal (29) and Ruud van Nistelrooy penalty (67) and Leverkusen responding through Michael Ballack (62) and Oliver Neuville (75). Neuville's 45th-minute equaliser back in Germany cancelled out a Roy Keane goal (28), earning Klaus Toppmöller's Leverkusen a 1-1 draw on the night and victory on away goals. Ryan Giggs is the only survivor in either squad of that 2002 ...
Champions League Real Madrid aim to be kings of Europe again If Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, football's most expensive duo, can produce the brilliance that prompted Real Madrid to invest £166 million in, the Spanish giants could finally land their 10th European Cup this season. The 59th season of Europe's elite club competition begins on Tuesday with Bayern Munich defending their title boosted by the signing of Mario Goetze from last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona looking for a fourth crown in nine seasons. The managerial landscape has changed with Alex Ferguson, in charge of more Champions League games than any other coach, having left Manchester United and Jose Mourinho having ended his spell at Real for a second stint at Chelsea. Real have replaced him with another double Champions League-winning coach in Carlo Ancelotti and the Italian's job will be to make sure new recruit Bale fits into his team. The Wales winger's world record £86 million move from Tottenham Hotspur ear ...

Stoke City Winners:- I believe Chelsea will win the league this year. They had a rather patchy season last term due to the sacking and interim appointment of Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez respectively. However, the "special" one is back in town and Jose Mourinho will be keen to blueprint the success he brought to Chelsea during his first spell in charge. UEFA CL 2nd, 3rd and 4th:- I think it goes without saying regardless of who is in charge at Manchester United they are always going to challenge for the league title. However after being under the reigns of Alex Ferguson for so long I think they will come upshort in there first transitional seas ...
Summer of opportunity beckons for Arsenal By John Brewin | Jul 5, 2013 1:19 AM Arsenal may never have a better chance of reclaiming the Premier League title than they do in the upcoming season. By May, a decade will have passed since their last top-flight crown, the unbeaten season that was one of English football’s greatest ever achievements. From invincibility to the ignominy of becoming an also-ran has been the downward trajectory. This was once considered unacceptable in the club's Marble Halls, but it has become so. The celebration of last season's fourth place was unseemly, even if it was an opportunity to lord it over Tottenham Hotspur. For a club like Arsenal, fourth is a bare minimum. Finishing a place below that all but constitutes relegation for a club of such scope. Arsenal's land of new hope London’s Gunners are even more the establishment club now that Manchester United are under new management, and Chelsea have turned back on themselves with the return of Jose Mourinho. Manchester City ...

It is widely expected Villa will leave the Catalans this summer, with sources close to the Barca board having indicated that Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool have all asked about the player in recent weeks. However, the €12m asking price appears to have put them off and La Blaugrana are believed to be weighing up whether to offer the 31-year-old plus cash to land Rooney from United. Barca are waiting to hear the outcome of a meeting between United boss David Moyes and the Former Everton man to determine his future before making any move, with the relationship between the pair understood to be strained after their time together at Goodison Park. Rooney’s ...

Kinnear made several claims in his interview with TalkSport. I've never been sacked in my life - FALSE Kinnear was sacked by Luton Town in 2003. Health problems contributed to his departure from Wimbledon and he opted to resign from Nottingham Forest after a 3-0 defeat to rivals Derby County and at Newcastle his interim contract came to an end - after more health problems. Luton remains the only blot on his CV. I have played in five Cup finals – I have won the lot - FALSE Kinnear played four finals with Tottenham. He won the FA Cup in 1967, Football League Cup 1971 and 1973, and the UEFA Cup 1972. He did feature in the 1967 Charity Shield, but Tottenham's 3-3 draw with Manchester United meant that the trophy was shared. And as a manager he has never taken a team to a major final. I had over 400 games for Tottenham Hotspur – FALSE. Kinnear played at Spurs for 10 seasons between 1965 and 1975 and in that time he played 196 games. Not the 400 he claims. In fact if you add his two seasons at Brighton into ...
