Howard Webb match stats revealed – but did Manchester United really profit most when he was in charge? Manchester City and Arsenal have been revealed as the teams to profit most with Howard Webb in charge over the past five Premier League seasons. The referee, who retired today, has long been accused of bias towards Manchester United, but the Red Devils only have the fourth best points-per-game ratio under him. United lost seven out of 20 games under his charge, which hardly indicates that he has been a key factor in their successes. City enjoyed a whopping 2.41 points per game when Webb was the man in the middle, while Arsenal won 11 out of 15 matches with a points-per-game ratio of 2.33.

Webb said on his unveiling at Arsenal training ground. It's gr8 to be here. Obviously I've been at Manchester United for many years, but once Sir Alex Ferguson left, it didn't feel rights. I don't want to be working for an amateur manager like David Moyes. I had a loan spell under Jose Mourinho in August to December and did well against Westbrom and Liverpool but when they declare themselves a Litle Horse in which shows they are not yet ready, then I decided to leave them instead of wasting my effort, now Arsenal came calling, I knew this was the right move for me. West Ham 2-0 Swansea Kevin Nolan scored twice to move 10-man West Ham United out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Swansea City. The West Ham captain's first-half double earned the points for Sam Allardyce's side, who played the final half an hour a man down after Andy Carroll marked his first home top-flight start of the season with a straight red card after a challenge on Chico Flores. Carroll assisted both Nolan goals with knock-downs, but his game was cut short when referee Howard Webb dismissed him after an aerial challenge with Flores resulted in his flailing arm clipping the Spaniard's head. However, despite that setback, West Ham stood firm in the face of continued Swansea pressure to record just their third league win of the season at Upton Park and go above Stoke City on goal difference ahead of their game against Manchester United. Both clubs were active in the January transfer window, but all three new signings named in their squads on Saturday star ...

SportsNet Manchester United News: Referee Howard Webb Nearly Costs United Deserved Victory! BY christopher.arnfield | January 13 2013 1:29 PM On a weekend which saw one of the worst refereeing performances of all time from Captain *** up Mike Dean in the Arsenal v Manchester City match, Manchester United very nearly found to their cost the difference a poor referee can inflict on their Premier League chances. Howard Webb is regarded as one of the best referees in the world, but today he got a number of key decisions wrong. A lot of people think that Sir Alex Ferguson was trying to intimidate Webb with a pre-match warning about watching diver-in-chief, Luis Suarez. However, sometimes this tactic can backfire and the referee takes an opposite viewpoint, albeit subconsciously. From the outset, Ashley Young was the victim of an orchestrated attempt to cause him injury by repeated fouls from behind. Webb seemed to ignore this, waving play on. Then, when United were two up and cruising, he allowed a blatant fo ...
Call Vidic a Cheat Too? Last week, the press carried out a character assassination of Reds striker Luis Suarez. Vilified and called a "cheat," Suarez’s actions even forced the mouth of a commentator. At Old Trafford, a Steven Gerrard free kick took a deflection off of Nemanja Vidic’s head before going outside. Now, Howard Webb and his assistants missed the incident and wrongly awarded a goal kick to Manchester United. Vidic kept quiet and went about his business. However, if Suarez’s actions from last week robbed Mansfield of a FA Cup replay, then Vidic’s actions stripped Liverpool off of an opportunity to settle the scores. What if, out of the resulting corner, Liverpool scored to level things? Then, we would have had a different game on in our hands. Vidic, thus, by press standards “cheated” by not running up to the referee and persuading him to award the corner kick to Liverpool. ---Suso---
Former Premier League referee Graham Poll says video technology needs to be introduced after replays appeared to show that defender Nemanja Vidic, 31, was offside when he got the final touch as Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1. Howard Webb always dey cheat us why?

BREAKING: The FA have announced that Luis Suarez has already been sent off by Howard Webb for Sunday's game against Manchester United.
I agree! Brendan Rodgers believes Luis Suarez 'thrives' on any opposition hostility towards him. In a briefing with radio reporters ahead of Sunday's game at Manchester United, the 39-year-old also discussed his hope that moments of brilliance, rather than refereeing decisions, decide the Barclays Premier League encounter. Read on for the full interview... How do you *** your form going into this game? We've won seven of our last nine games, so we go into it with a winning mentality - which is important. In these games you have to show courage and belief. What I've seen in the players in a number of our performances of late is that we've got that. We know it will be a difficult game but in the game earlier in the season, we were the better team for large parts. We arrive there with confidence and we'll look to show that on the field. United have been far from watertight this season and you will get opportunities there... That's something that Sir Alex [Ferguson] has said himself, it has been a concern. .. ...

Sir Alex Ferguson recalls Howard Webb for crucial Liverpool grudge match Manchester United gave recalled referee Howard Webb to their starting twelve for the crucial Premier League title clash against major rivals Liverpool. The club have made the change for the clash on 13th January, after referee Mike Atkinson failed to award the league leaders a penalty for something or other in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham. “We’re delighted to welcome back Howard,” revealed Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. “I think being dropped for the derby last season hurt, and he’ll be itching to show his desire to regain his number one status with the fans.” “It wouldn’t surprise me to see him award us a controversial penalty in the 15th minute of stoppage time, I know that’s something he has been working on in training.” “In the really big games you need a referee that can keep a cool head and reduce the opposing team to 10 men for the most innocuous of challenges, and there’s no-one better at that ...

"Ferguson is the symbol of English football and he deserves to be an idol because of the work he has done. I believe his players are happy with him and that is excellent for the atmosphere of the club. I don’t want to talk about his future but Mourinho is perfectly able to work for Manchester United and any other big club in the world. I would have preferred another team in this round, but Real Madrid are always serious candidates for the Champions League title because we don’t fear any rivals, and to play at Old Trafford is a reward for any footballer." - Xabi Alonso AS27
Manchester Derby Match Preview: Manchester City will be looking to mark Manchester United's 12th man, Mark Clattenburg. Manchester City will further go on to mark United's new signing, Martin Atkinson. However, luckily for City, United's captain, Howard Webb, will not be featuring today due to injury.
Mark Clattenburg fears his World Cup dream has been shattered by the John Obi Mikel racial abuse allegations. Clattenburg will return to duties at White Hart Lane on Sunday, after being cleared of calling the Nigerian a monkey during last month’s acrimonious clash between Chelsea and Manchester United. The Newcastle-based whistler will be fourth official as Spurs face West Ham before taking charge of Southampton’s game with Norwich on Wednesday. But Alan Leighton, head of the referee’s union Prospect, revealed Clattenburg was concerned the allegations, made by Chelsea's Brazilian midfielder Ramires, could end his hopes of officiating in Brazil, in 2014. Clattenburg is in competition with 2010 World Cup Final referee Howard Webb to be selected by FIFA as England’s representative at the finals. Leighton said: “Mark is a prime candidate for the Brazil World Cup. But he is worried this whole incident could’ve derailed his ambition to be the English ref. “He wants to come back and show he is a to ...
Nani's Mysterious Goal Against Tottenham Following a Hand Ball Old Trafford just does not seem to be a nice place for Tottenham Hotspur. Just a year and a half after a Howard Webb penalty incident, Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes conceded one of the strangest goals you will ever see. With United leading 1-0 in the second half Manchester United right back played Nani into the box. Nani appeared to be tripped up by Spurs defender Younes Kaboul inside the box, which Nani felt deserved a penalty. Replays showed that Kaboul may have in fact caught Nani inside the box and a penalty COULD have been given. In typical Nani fashion though, the Portuguese winger stopped playing and picked up the ball, since he assumed that his dive would lead to a penalty, however referee Mark Clattenburg never blew his whistle to give the penalty. Seeing Nani holding the ball with his hand, everyone on the pitch naturally assumed that if there was no penalty, Tottenham now had a free kick. Gomes placed the ball down to take ...

I know how Manchester United fans are feeling ... Where is Howard Webb and Mark Clattenburg when you need them the most ...
good post to read. Chelsea FC Dan Levene Sunday's Chelsea v Liverpool referee gave two penalties against the Blues in one game last season. Howard Webb, 41, of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, is the Premier League's top internationally-recognised referee, and will be making his first return to Stamford Bridge this campaign. Last season he took charge of three Chelsea matches: December's 1-1 draw at Tottenham (where he booked Gareth Bale, Emmanuel Adebayor, Branislav Ivanovic and Ramires); February's 3-3 home draw with Manchester United (where he booked Branislav Ivanovic, Fernando Torres and Patrice Evra, while awarding United two penalties – one of them debatable); and April's 6-1 home demolition of QPR (where he booked Joey Barton). Mr Webb has already refereed one Liverpool match so far this season: the Reds' 0-2 home defeat to Arsenal in September. He booked Jonjo Shelvey and Martin Skrtel, plus Per Mertesacker and Mikel Arteta from the visitors. He was also the man in the middle for three Liverpool g ...

Robin Van Persie has backed the FA's decision not to take action against him following his clash with Yohan Cabaye. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew called on the FA to take action against Van Persie, accusing the Dutchman of elbowing Cabaye during Manchester United's 3-0 away win. The incident was not seen by referee Howard Webb and after reviewing video footage the FA have decided no further action needs to be taken against Van Persie. Asked about the decision from the FA over the Cabaye incident, Van Persie told voetbal.nl: "And I agree with the union." Van Persie has quickly settled into life at United following his big-money arrival from Arsenal and the striker is enjoying his new surroundings at Old Trafford. "It's fun and it's going well," added Van Persie. "It is a great challenge. "I will have to change a bit, but that happens in life often enough."

Chinua Achebe's piece sounds as prejudice as Howard Webb is to Manchester United. By the way, why he gave the impression that it was only Ibos that died in the war? What about the Ijaws, Kalabaris and other South-South? Have we ever asked why was a Biafra in a first place?? What was the course of the war?? Why Ojukwu and other power hungers were never blamed for declaring war initially? The bottom line is that you don't declare war when you don't have what it takes to see it thru. If Achebe truly believe in one united nation of this country. The entire Ibos should be thanking Baba Awolowo for using his intellect and idea to put an end to the war; Azikiwe was there during the war, is it not your Igbo people that government used to surpress the war?? Why Achebe is now looking for a scape goat to be blamed for the failure of Biafra??. Finally, Howard Webb, who sent off Jordi Gomez, (who's red card has now been rescinded) has been given Newcastle vs... Manchester United.
Last season, Manchester City romped to a 6-1 win at Old Trafford, inflicting on their rivals their biggest embarrassment under Ferguson. The referee on that day was Mark Clattenburg. He sent Johnny Evans off in the second half for a clear professional foul. There have been 34 Man United league games since that day. The number of times times Clattenburg has refereed them? Zero. Not a single one. It seems that the FA, for whatever reason, doesn’t want Clattenburg to referee Man United games anymore. Some of us more paranoid folk may just wonder who’s behind that decision. The FA has no hesitation to hand United games to Howard Webb though: he’s been the most used referee in 34 United games since the 6-1 defeat to City. Webb’s history in Man United games is well known and documented. All I have to say on the matter is that more than 18% of the penalties he’s awarded in his ENTIRE Premier League refereeing career have gone to Manchester United. Over a 9 year period, that’s a huge percentage

Howard Webb Howard Webb, leading English referee, counted as one of the best at his profession, closet Manchester United fan. Webb has been selected for many of the most important games in recent football history, including the 2010 World Cup Final. England's rose Howard Webb says "nope". 42 min Meireles wastes a free kick from crossable distance deep on the left-hand flank. Easily cleared by the Czech's first man. Meireles has been quite poor throughout this tournament, amirite? A man whose email name (and, I dearly hope, his real name) is James Gmail says the following: I think the Portugal away kick is an ingenious way to prevent the opposition scoring from free kicks - instead of aiming for the goal the kick-taker is drawn to aim for the centre of the cross of the Portuguese players forming the wall. 40 min Hugo Almeida is on for the crocked striker. He has an excellent beard. 39 min Eek, Postiga's done his ...
