Championship club Blackburn Rovers are close to signing Joshua King from Manchester United. The striker would move to Ewood Park on loan for now, only for the deal to be made permanent come January. The 20 year old, who was signed by United in 2008 after his stint in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s soccer school, has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Old Trafford and made only his second appearance for the club against Galatasaray on Tuesday. In between he has spent time on loan to Preston North End, Borussia Monchengladbach and Hull City. With a number of top quality strikers in his ranks along with a few promising young ones, it is perhaps no surprise that Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to part ways with the young Norwegian. His impressive performances this season with the national team have caught the attention of clubs in England and the new Blackburn manager Henin Berg has wasted no time in going back to his former club for the signature of a forward, who he would hope aid his team’s push fo ...

They care Picture: ACTION IMAGES By Henry WinterLast Updated: 6:46AM BST 02/10/2012 Steve Kean’s welcome resignation as Blackburn Rovers manager marks the end of an error but sadly not the end of an era. Kean’s gone, finally, but Venky’s remains. Unfortunately for Blackburn Rovers fans, this sorry, shabby episode in their club’s long and noble history is not over. Not until Venky’s have sold to owners who understand and care about football, or at the very least appoint the right people in the dugout and the boardroom, will the circus leave Ewood Park. Sir Alex Ferguson praises goalkeeper. Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United manager, has thanked goalkeeper David De Gea for making the saves that allowed the champions to move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Although United dominated possession against Blackburn at Ewood Park, the visitors struggled to create any clear openings other than an early Javier Hernandez effort that came back off the post. Instead, it was Blackburn peppering their opponents' goal, only to be denied by the man who gifted them their shock win at Old Trafford earlier in the season. De Gea denied Junior Hoilett, Marcus Olsson and Grant Hanley before the break, then repelled Morten Gamst Pedersen, who also had a goal disallowed in the second half. And once Rio Ferdinand had made a superb tackle on Yakubu just as the Nigerian was about to turn home from close range, it offered United the chance to wrap up victory through goals from Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young in the final 10 minutes. "David De Gea m ...

Manchester City’s challenge for the Premier League title suffered a setback as they were forced to stage a late fightback just to salvage a 3-3 draw against Sunderland at Eastlands on Saturday. With leaders Manchester United not in action until Monday’s trip to Blackburn, Roberto Mancini’s side would have returned to the top of the table on goal difference if they had beaten the Black Cats. But City, who had won their previous 20 home league games to set a Premier League record, are now two points behind United and that gap will extend to five if the champions win at Ewood Park. City, on a run of only one win in four league matches, fell behind to Sweden midfielder Sebastian Larsson’s cool finish in the 31st minute. Mancini’s men equalised two minutes before half-time when referee Phil Dowd harshly awarded a penalty for Craig Gardner’s challenge on Edin Dzeko.
