Manchester United Team news ahead of the trip to the Loftus Road this weekend!!! INJURY UPDATE!!! -Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie is a doubt for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash against QPR. -The Dutchman was withdrawn during the defeat to Southampton with an ankle injury but Louis Van Gaal has told MUTV this is only a minor problem, suggesting that his countryman could still be involved at Loftus Road. "It's not worse. Only Van Persie is maybe injured but it is a minor injury. I don't think it's a great problem." Louis Van Gaal. -Ashley Young remains in the treatment room with a hamstring strain which is likely to keep him out for a few more weeks. THE PREVIOUS MEETING!! -We meet again: United are unbeaten against QPR since New Year's Day 1992 and earlier this season the Reds strolled to a 4-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and maiden United strikes for Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria. .
Louis Van Gaal: Ashley Young is only player on Manchester United injury list
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal delivers the team news for Sunday's home clash against Southampton. Ashley Young is the only sidelined player with Marcos Rojo returning to training at the weekend while Luke Shaw and Rafael are both available.
Manchester United are set to make striker Radamel Falcao's loan deal from Monaco permanent within the coming days after becoming satisfied that the 28-year-old Colombia star is "fully up to scratch physically". Ashley Young, 29, who can play in midfield or as a wing-back, will be out for at least a month because of a hamstring injury. Liverpool are leading the chase to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, 23, after making a permanent offer, while their rivals for the Switzerland star's signature, Inter Milan and Juventus, have only offered loan deals. Manchester United have earmarked Juventus' former United midfielder Paul Pogba, 21, as their main transfer target after being snubbed by Real Madrid's forward pair Cristiano Ronaldo, 29, and Gareth Bale, 25. Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski will travel to Milan on Friday ahead of a possible loan move to Inter, according to Sky sources. Kevin Strootman is keen to leave Roma in January - but the Manchester United target wants a switch to Real Madrid. A ...

Ashley Young is enjoying a new lease of life at Manchester United under Louis Van Gaal, writes Adam Bate... There were many aspects to the excitement that surrounded the appointment of Louis Van Gaal as Manchester United manager. But for supporters of a certain inclination part of the barely-containable glee came from the thought of what the notoriously tough Van Gaal would make of the squad with which he’d been left. “Bomb out the deadwood,” came the familiar refrain. Of course, unless you’re Felix Magath with a Monday migraine, things rarely work out that way. Van Gaal is savvy enough to make the best of what he’s got and to the surprise of many that continues to mean a key role for the much-maligned Ashley Young. When the subject of his wing-backs was broached following an impressive Boxing Day win over Newcastle in which Young had put in a series of fine crosses from his new position out on the left, Van Gaal was typically forthright in his reply. Young had been part of his plans right from ...
Ashley Young added to Manchester United's injury woes after suffering a hamstring problem at Stoke City on Thursday.
Van Gaal frustrated by Tottenham draw Louis Van Gaalrued missed chances and two lost points after his Manchester United side played out an entertaining but frustrating goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspurat White Hart Lane on Sunday. Juan Mata, Robin Van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Ashley Young all went close to scoring in the Barclays Premier League fixture but could not beat Spurs goalkeeper Hugh Lloris, who was tellingly given the Man of the Match award by broadcasters BT Sport. “We lost two points I think,” reflected Van Gaal. “We had the best performance of Manchester United’s season in the first half, we could have scored four or five goals I think, but we didn’t reward ourselves. In the second half, it was more of a struggle than football. “You could see [then] that the players could not recover in two days. It was an ugly match. In the first half we played very well, but when you do not score goals then you cannot win. I said already before the matches, it is the culture of England [to ...
Ashley Young is the latest Manchester United Player to pass comment about his sides 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day after a dominant display by the Red Devils. United have gained momentum extending their unbeaten run to eight matches with a tough away trip to White Hart Lane at lunchtime on Sunday on the horizon. It is imperative that United do not slip up at this stage, especially with another tough away trip against Stoke City on New Years Day. Young was another stand out player in the victory over Newcastle United operating in the wing-back position on the left-hand side on the flank, assisting United in ensuring that three points were the only eventuality from the match. The victory puts pressure on leaders Chelsea and second placed Manchester City, even though they are ten points and seven points clear, respectively, of the Old Trafford club. If United can unnerve their rivals with their dominant displays, the pressure of that could mean that either side will make mist ...
Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor has had his red card against Manchester United rescinded by the FA. But it's not all good news for Villa, who have been charged for failing to control their player in the aftermath of the incident. The striker went in for a full-blooded challenge with former team-mate Ashley Young, and was subsequently sent off by referee Lee Mason. However the FA have decided to uphold his claim of wrongful dismissal, meaning Agbonlahor will now be available for Aston Villa's Boxing Day clash with Swansea. Young, along with United manager Louis Van Gaal, admitted at the end of the game that they thought the 28-year-old was going to receive a yellow card for the challenge. After the game, Villa boss Lambert said: "I didn't think it was a sending off to be fair. Ashley Young has said to Brad Guzan that he made the foul on Gabriel Agbonlahor. "That was not a sending off, everyone in the ground saw that." However, the FA have charged the club with failing to control their players in an orderl ...
Radamel Falcao made his fourth league start for Manchester United and scored his second goal Falcao header cancels out Benteke goal Man Utd prevented seven straight wins Agbonlahor sent off in second half United third, seven points off top Ten-man Aston Villa ended Manchester United's six-game winning run with a hard- earned draw at Villa Park. United dominated possession but fell behind to Christian Benteke's superb left- foot strike before Radamel Falcao headed them level after the break. Gabriel Agbonlahor was dismissed for a heavy tackle on Ashley Young, prompting United pressure and Michael Carrick's header was cleared off the line. They could not force a winner and sit seven points behind leaders Chelsea. The Blues could extend that lead if they win their game in hand at Stoke on Monday and United will look back at a timid first-half display as costly. Manager Louis Van Gaal asked his side to be better with ball before kick-off and they obliged with 76% of possession in the opening half an hour. But ...
Manchester United have been held to a 1-1 draw by the 10 men of Aston Villa in a keenly-contested game at Villa Park this afternoon. The result has brought an end to a six-game winning streak for Louis Van Gaal's side, but they remain in the top three of the Premier League. Man Utd saw much of the ball in the opening 15 minutes but couldn't create any chances with their superior possession. Their lack of creativity came back to haunt them in the 18th minute as Christian Benteke bent a measured shot inside the far post from inside the box after Jonny Evans was unable to deal with a deep free kick. United were soon on the front foot again as they penned the hosts inside their own half, but a wall of claret and blue shirts prevented them from carving open any opportunities. After a Villa counter attack broke down, Man Utd almost got a goal back as Ashley Young's inswinging cross evaded everyone inside the box, but Brad Guzan clawed it away just as it looked to be creeping inside the far post. Radamel Falcao ...
Alan Smith is right, Ashley Young has been Manchester United's best player by a mile tonight. Not saying much though. Southampton should win
Manchester United recorded a fourth win in a row for the first time since December 2013 with a 2-1 triumph over Stoke City at a chilly Old Trafford on Tuesday night. Marouane Fellaini’s first-half header and Juan Mata’s free-kick - from which Marcos Rojo tried to claim a decisive touch - ensured the Reds collected another three points, although, not for the first time this season, an inspired moment from David De Gea was needed to safeguard the victory. Steven Nzonzi equalised for the Potters before the break and Mame Biram Diouf almost did the same, twice, in the dying seconds of the game but was thwarted by the Reds' no.1 and then an Ashley Young goal-line clearance. The absence of the injured Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria from United's team-sheet may have given the visitors a lift, but Asmir Begovic threatened to ruin a fairly trouble-free opening for Stoke with a careless pass to Robin Van Persie. The Stoke goalkeeper's blushes were spared when Ander Herrera scooped over from the Dutchman’s pa ...
Manchester United made it four straight Premier League wins with a 2-1 victory over Stoke City. United were missing the injured Wayne Rooney, who was hurt in a collision with an advertising hoarding against Hull on Saturday. But they took the lead on 21 when Ander Herrera’s cross was met by Marouane Fellaini’s header. Stoke levelled on 39 - Bojan Krkic’s run into the box was halted, the ball rolled back to Steven N’Zonzi who powered in a shot from the edge of the box. United took the lead on 59 – Juan Mata whipped in a free-kick, no-one got a touch and the ball flew straight past Asmir Begovic. In a dramatic finale, David De Gea made a stunning save to deny Mame Biram Diouf and then Ashley Young came to United's rescue with a sensational goal-line clearance in the fourth minute of stoppage time. After all the questions about Steven Gerrard’s future, Liverpool’s skipper played a pivotal role in their 3-1 win at 10-man Leicester. The hosts took the lead through Simon Mignolet’s unfortunate o ...

Burnley, Manchester United draw Manchester United’s record signing Angel Di Maria was unable to inspire his side to victory as the Red Devils were held to a goalless draw by Burnley at Turf Moor. The new No.7 made his full debut for the Red Devils but lasted only 68 minutes as Louis Van Gaal replaced the Argentina international with Anderson. Having failed to beat Swansea City or Sunderland prior to a midweek League Cup humbling at the hands of MK Dons, Van Gaal's men produced another disjointed display and could have few complaints with the result despite being denied a late penalty when substitute Ashley Barnes appeared to handle a shot from Ashley Young. Indeed, Burnley had opportunities to emulate the 1-0 victory they memorably secured when the sides last met at Turf Moor in August 2009, with David Jones coming the closest to a goal when striking the crossbar early on. Sean Dyche's side will surely take heart from claiming a first Premier League point of the season, following defeats to Chelsea and ...
HERE'S a bit of good advice for the Glazer family. Without any delay, they should put Manchester United on the market. Sell the lot as quick as they can and bank their profit. MONEY PIT Put it this way. If they decide to fund Louis Van Gaal's messy attempts to tidy up the poor legacy left by Alex Ferguson, it won't be long before they understand very clearly how a big football club can turn into a huge money pit if they don't already. Angel Di Maria, on his own, has eaten into a big chunk of the Glazer family fortune and they know that it is not very long at all since Alex Ferguson was knocking out trophies on a bit of a shoestring. He was still spending money but while Real Madrid were lashing out mad amounts for Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and their latest bunch of Galacticos, Ferguson was buying Anderson, Chris Smalling, Valencia and Ashley Young. They are not bad players. Van Gaal is trying a system which requires the two wing-backs to be defenders, as well as wingers, but Valencia and Young have always been ...

What We Learned: Premier League Matchday One The first round of the English Premier League has come and gone in a flash, producing some explosive results, familiar headlines and serious questions. Football fans have been salivating at the prospect of the return of the EPL, and did it deliver. Goals, birds dropping s**t in player's mouths and managers already under the pump, here are the five things we learned from match-day one. Same old story at Old Trafford Old mate David Moyes must be feeling hard done by after guiding Manchester United to a 4-1 win against Swansea this time 12 months ago. Fast forward to the weekend, and in Louis Van Gaal’s Premier League debut, the Red Devil’s produce a pitiful performance to be beaten by minnows Swansea. The 3-5-2 formation worked for the Netherlands, but for it to work at Manchester United, they need to sign one or two quality defenders, one of Angel Di Maria or Juan Cuadrado, and not play Ashley Young as a wing-back. The defence were a shambles against a pluck ...

Louis Van Gaal feels he will need far longer to turn Manchester United's fortunes around despite completing the pre-season with six wins out of six. United rounded off their schedule of pre-season fixtures with a 2-1 win over Valencia on Tuesday, giving the Dutchman, who took over after leading the Netherlands to third place at the World Cup last month, victory in his first match as Red Devils boss at Old Trafford. They now face Swansea in their Premier League opener at home on Saturday but Van Gaal is unsure whether Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia, who sat out Tuesday's match through injury, will be available. With those three sidelined, Van Gaal had Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Tyler Blackett at centre-back, with Ashley Young and Reece James playing as wing-backs and Michael Keane the only defender on the bench against Spanish side Valencia. Left-back Shaw and midfielder Ander Herrera have been the only new signings so far this pre- season, although United are widely reported to have made ...
It was always suggested that succeeding Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager would be the hardest job in football and it proved to be the case for David Moyes at Old Trafford last season. But with the Scot being sacked after guiding United to seventh place, their lowest-ever Premier League finish, Louis Van Gaal has arguably landed the manager's job at the perfect time, with Moyes's failure making it almost impossible for the Dutchman to do any worse. Van Gaal has inherited a rebuilding job at United, but the early signs from the club's pre-season tour of the United States point to a much-improved atmosphere and sense of belief and the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach appears already to have made the team competitive again. The intensity of the Premier League will quickly test United's progress under Van Gaal and tell the manager whether his new 3-4-1-2 formation will work in England. But players who appeared to have no future at United, such as Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cl ...
Marouane Fellaini grabbed a last-minute winner as Manchester United warmed up for the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Valencia. The Belgian, who has had a tough time at Old Trafford since he was signed by David Moyes nearly a year ago, pounced on a defensive mistake in injury time to ensure the Reds finished their pre-season programme unbeaten. Darren Fletcher had put United ahead early in the second half, after Wayne Rooney had missed a penalty before the break. Rodrigo equalised in Valencia’s best spell, but just as the friendly looked to be drifting to a draw, substitute Fellaini pounced for the deciding goal. Louis Van Gaal's first game in charge at Old Trafford saw the Dutchman unveil the 3-5-2 system that served him well so far in pre-season, but although United looked comfortable the game only came to life as a contest when Rooney struck his spot kick against the base of the post having been clipped going for an Ashley Young cross. Fletcher put United ahead with a deflected shot from the ' ...

THE SPORTS BREAK FAST. You can never read too much into pre-season results, but individual performances can offer that bit more encouragement. Promising for Manchester United Fans are the performances of Ashley Young so far. It is fair to say the wide man has not showcased his talent on a consistent basis at Old Trafford, but his displays against Real Madrid and Liverpool suggest he could well deliver under new boss Louis Van Gaal. With that in mind, which players have caught your eye in pre-season and why?
Liverpool lead Manchester United at the halfway point of their International Champions Cup final in Miami courtesy of a Steven Gerrard penalty. The Reds skipper stepped up to convert from 12 yards after Phil Jones mistimed his 14th-minute challenge on Raheem Sterling at the Sun Life Stadium. England international Sterling was felled again in the box later in the half, but the American referee did not point to the spot for a second time, allowing United midfielder Ander Herrera a let off. It was Louis Van Gaal's side who created the first opening of the half, with Ashley Young , who scored twice last time out against Real Madrid, crossing for Javier Hernandez to narrowly guide wide. Young's delivery was a good source of United pressure throughout the opening 45 minutes, but Liverpool were the more threatening team overall as Jordan Henderson headed over before Gerrard's penalty. Philippe Coutinho would have doubled the Anfield outfit's advantage on 24 minutes had it not been for a fine save from David de G ...
Ashley Young's double gives winger a chance for redemption at Manchester United...
Pre-Season:- Manchester United 3-1 Real Madrid (See Goals Highlights) The England winger’s first half goals were added to by Chicharito late on despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s introduction from the bench in the second half. Manchester United sealed their place in the final of the International Champions Cup with a 3-1 win over Real Madrid on Saturday. In front of a crowd of 109,318 at Michigan Stadium – a record attendance for a game of football in the United States – Ashley Young netted twice in the first half either side of Gareth Bale’s penalty. Real posed more of a threat in the second half, but substitute Chicharito added a late third to ensure Louis Van Gaal’s side topped Group A. Inter’s 2-0 win over Roma earlier in the day had momentarily sent Walter Mazzarri’s men to the summit of the group, and United knew they needed to avoid defeat in 90 minutes against Real to usurp the Italian side and book their place against Liverpool in Monday’s final. United looked sharper for much of the e ...

Van Gaal hails United tour's impact Louis Van Gaal spoke proudly of Manchester United's big impact in America after the Reds beat Real Madrid in front of a national record crowd for a 'soccer' game. The Dutchman was delighted to beat the European champions at the vast Michigan Stadium, where 109,318 fans turned up to see United book a place in Monday's International Champions Cup final thanks to Ashley Young's double and Javier Hernandez's second-half goal. "Broadcasters all over the world should show the first goal [by Young] – it was a fantastic goal," said Van Gaal after the match. "I think all the team touched the ball [in the build-up]. People could have come to the stadium just for that goal, I think. "Three hundred thousand fans have watched us already and, now we're in the Miami final, it [the total] will be even more than that," he added, referring to the success of United's coast-to-coast US trip. If Van Gaal's men were to go on and win the cup on Monday, the achievement of winning a pre-seaso ...

Manchester United beat Inter 5-3 on penalties after their International Champions Cup clash finished goalless. The Red Devils scored each of their penalties, with captain Darren Fletcher converting the decisive kick after Marco Andreolli rattled his effort off the crossbar. Manager Louis Van Gaal made four changes to the starting XI that played Roma on Saturday, with Anders Lindegaard, Chris Smalling, Fletcher and Ashley Young returning to the line-up. United came close to breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute with defender Phil Jones, he stooped low to direct his header towards the bottom corner of the net but Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic got his hand to the ball and denied Jonny Evans on the rebound in a goal-mouth scramble. There were few clear-cut chances throughout the first half, though Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Danny Welbeck cut the Italians apart with a thrilling passing move, only for Mata’s low cross to be cut out before it reached Rooney. Wilfried Zaha was the only player in United ...
Louis Van Gaal maintained his unbeaten record as Manchester United boss following a penalty shootout win over Inter Milan in Washington DC. All five United penalty takers found the net in a 5-3 showdown that followed a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes. United only registered one shot on target in the first half, but they upped their game after the break. Substitute Wilfried Zaha, making his first appearance of the tour, was particularly impressive playing as a striker, as was Luke Shaw. Zaha, and Tom Cleverley were unlucky not to be awarded penalties in normal time at the FedEx Field. David De Gea only had one save to make during the match and he watched Marco Andreoli hit the bar from 12 yards, which allowed Darren Fletcher to fire home the winner. Fletcher, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez, Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa all scored fine penalties. It was a far better performance from 12 yards than the dismal 2-1 shootout defeat to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup semi-final under David Moyes last year. After beati ...
New manager Louis Van Gaal praised his players after opening his Manchester United reign with a 7-0 pre-season victory over Los Angeles Galaxy in California. The Dutchman was pleased with how his squad coped with the tactical changes he introduced, with 20 players enjoying at least 45 minutes of action at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Reece James all netted twice, while Danny Welbeck added the other goal against the leading MLS side. In front of 86 432 spectators, United played a 3-5-2 formation, instead of the more usual 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 used last year.
Ashley Young says the Manchester United Players are getting used to learning new systems under Louis Van Gaal.

:TRANSFER NEWS: New Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal will show his ruthless streak with a major Old Trafford clear-out with as many as 10 players facing the axe, including Ashley Young, Wilfried Zaha, Marouane Fellaini, Bebe, Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Nani and Nick Powell. Jose Mourinho is trying to persuade Real Madrid's World Cup-winning Germany midfielder Sami Khedira to join Chelsea instead of Arsenal. Juventus have no intention of selling Arturo Vidal this summer unless the Chile midfielder expresses his wish to leave. Vidal has been linked with Manchester United, but club administrator Giuseppe Marotta said today: "We want to keep him." Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has told Jan Vertonghen he will not be sold to Barcelona this summer. Sunderland are battling with relegated Fulham to sign USA World Cup defender Matt Besler. Swansea are close to signing £4m Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero. Liverpool will not let Luis Suarez's move to Barcelona derail their title ambitions, insists boss Brendan ...
He took a pen to make a list of "who goes" and could not be stopped! Van Gaal is going to be the ugliest man at Manchester United Nani, Ashley Young, Kagawa, Chicharito, Cleverley, Anderson, Bebe, Powell, Fellaini and Z are people who United no longer needs, along with Luis Van Gaal's arrival from Manchester United. The Dutchman has big plans at Manchester and it all starts with the reshuffling of the lot. After i took Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, Van Gaal wants to continue their purchases with Arturo Vidal, Cuadrado square, Di Maria and Cavani, but the Club has to make sense and budget, spending up to now 80 million euros on transfers. Those 10 players are quoted at nearly 150 million, the most expensive being Fellaini, Nani and Chicharito, Kagawa.
Louis Van Gaal is set for a major clear-out at Old Trafford before he brings in four new players.. Up to ten players face the axe including Wilfried Zaha, Mariouane Fellaini, Tom Cleverley and Ashley Young. Some Manchester United Players players won't even get the opportunity to prove themselves on the pre-season tour of America and will be asked to leave the club within the next 48 hours.
surprised we didn't have "in 2011 Manchester United were offered Mario Gotze for 5m pounds but opted to sign Ashley Young"
“Ashley Young is on his way out of Manchester United with a return to former club Aston Villa on the cards.”
It's a little bizarre that a team that has Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in it looked like such a damp squib last season. They have so much fire-power, but still somehow lack cutting edge. The only possible deduction, is that they're not getting the service they need to keep producing the goods. I can't help but feel that Manchester United were massively let down by their wingers last season. With Nani desperately trying to make as little impact as possible at Old Trafford and Ashley Young doing his best to copy him, it's clear that this is a problem position for Manchester United. It's not like any of the club's other options are providing the goods either. Whilst Antonio Valencia is still capable of the occasional good game, he's also largely inconsistent. I wouldn't be surprised if Louis Van Gaal has made signing a world class winger his top summer priority. After all, adding a little more threat down the flanks could breathe fresh life into this Manchester United side. It could w ...
Tom Cleverley was the fourth Manchester United Player to tackle our trivia challenge with a difference during 2013/14 - United Uncovered's keepy-up quiz. The concept is simple: keep the ball off the ground for 90 seconds while simultaneously listing five items for each category put forward by the quiz master - for example, countries who have won the World Cup. The player gets one point for every correct answer, with two points deducted for dropping the ball. Phil Jones emerged as an early leader with 44 points, ahead of Ashley Young on 21 and Rafael on 20. Watch the video to see how Cleverley fared. Enjoy. Hope United more players like Cleverley in future. Hope United perform like Champions throughout the season. The new breed of players are now to build up a better side for United Future. Hope Manchester United wins more Titles next season. Believed Champ20ns, Glory Glory Man United.
Former Chelsea and current Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben is a transfer priority for Louis Van Gaal when he becomes Manchester United manager, reports the Guardian. The Dutchman has sent a wish list of signings to the Red Devils chief executive Ed Woodward and his fellow countryman features prominently. Van Gaal knows Robben well having managed the 30-year-old in the national team since 2012 and was also the man who brought the attacking midfielder to Bayern from Real Madrid back in 2009 for £22m. The boss has identified that creativity in the middle is a real issue for United currently, with the likes of Luis Nani and Ashley Young failing to impress. In Robben the 2013 Premier League champions would be able to rely upon a player who has been recognised as one of the best in the world over the last decade, winning trophies in England, Spain , Germany and his native Netherlands. The Dutch international is particularly well known to Blues fans having spent three years at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and ...
From GiveMeSport.com: "Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez, Rio Ferdinand, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Ashley Young were all linked with moves away from the club during Moyes' time at Old Trafford after falling out of favour during periods of the season. Crazy English Players David Moyes is to fine Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young for going out following Manchester United's Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last week. The three players were photographed in Manchester City centre on Thursday evening after returning from the 4-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern in the quarter-final at the Allianz Arena. While United had no game for 10 days before Sunday's trip to Everton and the manager had given his squad three days off, Cleverley, Welbeck and Young are thought to have contravened stipulations that they should not be out late within 48 hours of the tie. The trio's indiscipline follows Moyes having to sanction Chris Smalling for a similar indiscretion at the end of last month. The defender was also photographed out in Manchester in the early hours apparently singing and dancing. It was the player's second transgression since January when he was forced to apologise for appearing to dress as a suicide bomber at a private party...
Manchester United manager David Moyes has fined Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Ashley Young after they enjoyed a night out just hours after the side were elimnated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich. [Dailymail]
Manchester United trio Danny Welbeck, Ashley Young and Tom Cleverley have been reportedly fined by boss David Moyes after they were caught on camera enjoying a night out just hours after their Champions League exit last week.
So David Moyes will be given around £200million to spend this summer with targets like Marco Reus & Toni Kroos on the shortlist. Could this mean the end for Nani & Ashley Young at Manchester United? With Anders Lindegaard, Nemanja Vidic & Patrice Evra leaving & Rio Ferdinand & Ryan Giggs hanging up their boots it could be a whole different team. Who I would like to see sign for Manchester United: Kasper Schmeichel Leighton Baines/Luke Shaw Marco Reus Toni Kroos What you think?

UCL Q-FINALS second leg Bayern Munich vs Manchester United kickoff :10/4/2014 @ 2.45am(Singapore time) Form guide: The Reds travel to Bavaria buoyed by the comprehensive and clinical 4-0 win over Newcastle, delivered by a side showing eight changes from the one that started last Tuesday's Champions League draw at Old Trafford. Bayern boss Pep Guardiola also shuffled his pack for his team's last outing, but the the German champions slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Augsberg, which ended their 53-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer shrugged the result off, saying: "It's all about Wednesday and the match against Manchester United. Nothing else matters," but his side are now without a win in three outings. They have also failed to beat English opposition on home soil this season, losing to Manchester City and drawing with Arsenal, although the latter result secured an aggregate success in the last round. Ins and outs: Juan Mata is cup-tied, and Ashley Young could be a doubt after tearing lig ...
Adnan Januzaj has been rewarded for his fantastic breakthrough season with Manchester United by being named the top Under-20 footballer in the world by Gazzetta Dello Sport. He beat a host of other talented youngsters such as Chelsea‘s Kurt Zouma, Paris St Germain’s Marquinhos and Schalke’s Max Meyer to the award and it is a testament to the impact he has had at Manchester United despite our poor season. Earlier this year, Januzaj was also nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy trophy award which Paul Pogba eventually won but his title from Gazzetta Dello Sport is fantastic in itself. Januzaj may only be 19 but he is already held in high regard at Old Trafford. When he came on against Aston Villa last week, he posed more attacking threat in a cameo substitute appearance than Ashley Young did in the whole game and going into next season and since his breakthrough goals against Sunderland, has been considered a vital player in the first team squad. He has been eased back out of the team this year by ...
"Ashley Young believes a solid team performance was the key to Manchester United holding Bayern " key was putting Young on the bench.
Breaking News: Manchester United have announced that Ryan Giggs will be joining David Moyes next season in the capacity of "co-manager", i.e., Manchester United will have a "management team" of Ryan Giggs and David Moyes from next season. The Glazers and the board arrived at this decision following a meeting with the coaching staff and David Moyes. Ryan Giggs has immediately swung into action, making sure that the players he wants on for the next season are contracted. Ashley Young will be the first to benefit, with the left winger set for a 3-year extension on his contract by the end of this week.

Arsenal * Arsenal are the best second-half team in the Premier League; they have 'won' 18 of their 32 second halves this season. * Santi Cazorla had more touches than any other player during Arsenal v City (105) but contrived to lose the ball eight times with a poor touch. * Olivier Giroud has scored just three goals in his last 22 matches against the current top seven in the Premier League; he had three off-target shots v City on Saturday. Aston Villa * Villa are currently in relegation form with just seven points collected from their last eight Premier League games. * Their 13th-minute goal v Manchester United was their one and only shot on target. * Christian Benteke was dispossessed five times at Old Trafford; only five PL players have been dispossessed more times than the Belgian this season. Cardiff City * Cardiff have only scored nine first- half goals in the Premier League this season; they have scored 20 after the break. * At West Brom on Saturday, they picked up their first away point since Dece ...
Ashley Young claims Bayern Munich will miss suspended stars Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez and that Manchester United have "a massive chance" in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final next week. "I can't wait to go to Munich. We have given ourselves a massive chance. I think everyone would have taken that result before a ball was kicked. It sets us up nicely for the second leg. It was a great team performance and we look forward to the second leg now. "Everybody wrote us off before the game but we created many chances. We know they are a good team but we knew we would get chances on the counter attack. We managed to do that and got the goal. "Schweinsteiger is going to be a miss for them. Martinez will be as well. But we have to concentrate on ourselves and put on a performance."

BLABBING TIME: De Gea: United stood up to be counted Manchester United FC goalkeeper David De Gea said he was delighted to have proved wrong all those people who predicted an easy win for FC Bayern München at Old Trafford in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg. David De Gea, Manchester United goalkeeper This is a big club and at difficult moments is when you stand up and show people how big you are. I am pleased with that – people thought it was going to be easy for Bayern and we have produced a big performance. We are satisfied. We feel we played really well – it was a big effort against a very strong opponent. We might even have won. We knew we had to defend well, shut down the spaces and hit them on the counterattack and we had some clear chances. Defensively we were good, we kept it tight. I think we unsettled them. They're two different competitions and things haven't gone well in the league but the Champions League is a special competition, the team are doing really well and ...
Manchester United edges through to UCL quarter finals. It was a nerve twitching final moments at Old Trafford, but the home team held on for a victory whose significance in seeing United observe a right of passage to the quarters, rivals that in defining United's season...and possibly Moyes' future. RVP came alive to earn his first UCL hat trick, but the virtuoso performance of Wayne Rooney and ever green Ryan Giggs, and the guile and athleticism of De Gea did just enough to keep the recently crowned Greek champions at bay. It was a game captain Patrice Evra, and late substitute Ashley Young had a particularly poor show. This must be a much needed balm to soothe the aching nerves of United faithfuls. It was a night United's pedigree carried them through. This victory must be cherished, but United struggled in crucial areas of the game. That Ryan Giggs, at 40 is United's best central midfielder tells just the parlous state of affairs at United. Issues would surely arise when they meet the European super .. ...
Manchester United's Ashley Young is now on the field, playing on the right wing of midfield.
Manchester United could use winger Ashley Young as bait in a cash-plus-player bid for Southampton schemer Adam Lallana, [football] direct news understands. A source close to the Red Devils told FDN that England star Lallana, who is widely tipped to earn a place in Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions squad for this summer’s World Cup campaign in Brazil, is on their transfer wishlist. In stark contrast, the 25-year-old’s England colleague Young has come in for criticism this term as the champions have endured a torrid time, and he has produced only a handful of eye-catching performances. The ex-Aston Villa man was dropped for the 3-0 win at West Bromwich Albion and is likely to be the victim of an end-of-season shake-up by manager David Moyes. According to the source, the Scot is open to using Young as bargaining chip in his attempts to freshen up his squad. The Saints are sure to hold out for a significant sum of money for one of their most important players and could wait until England’s World Cup adventure ...
As everyone knows, I’m not the greatest fan of David Moyes. I’m sure he is a good man and he’s proven to be a good manager but he’s simply just not good enough for Manchester United. He’s the Ashley Young of management. A good, solid Premier League pro suited to a team chasing the Europa League, but...
My Opinion on David Moyes as Man Utd Manager. He knew before going to play Olympiacos that he didn't have a game this weekend, which provided him with more options not having to rest players. Instead, he played Tom Cleverley who is the WORST midfielder I have ever seen wearing a united uniform and Ashley Young who is absolutely clueless on the left. Moyes doesn't understand that he is the manager of Manchester United, the biggest club in the world. He doesn't understand that when you play teams with (no offense to Olympiacos) that are not as good as United, you go there to win the game. If the lineup from last weekend, worked so well, as we finally saw some mobility why change it? We know Mata couldn't play CL so why not play Kagawa or even Fletcher. Even Rooney could have played in the middle and have Chicharito play with RVP. I just don't understand what is the love affair with Cleverley. The man can't pass, doesn't move well, can't defend and he was responsible for one of the goals. Fellaini should hav ...
David Moyes has pointedly refused Shinji Kagawa's offer to translate Japanese menu items during a team dinner at a sushi restaurant, preferring to rely on Ashley Young... Moyes and his Manchester United Players decamped on Wednesday night to Umezushi on Mirabel Street in an attempt to rebuild morale after their Champions League defeat to Olympiakos. But the evening took an uncomfortable turn when Moyes consistently ignored Kagawa’s attempts to explain the various exotic foodstuffs on offer, instead asking England winger Young for his thoughts on the relative merits of inarizushi and gunkanmaki. “It was really awkward,” a Manchester United Player, speaking on condition of anonymity, “Shinji’s mid-way through explaining that the negitoromaki might be a better bet than the funazushi on account of the latter being made with fermented carp, when the gaffer turns his back on him and asks Ashley for his thoughts on natto maki. “When Ashley says he doesn’t know what natto maki is, we all assume he ...
Olympiakos 2 Manchester United 0: Five Champions League talking points David Moyes favoured caution over flair, leaving out players such as Welbeck, Kagawa and Januzaj. He must be braver if United are to turn the tie round in the second leg Tuesday 25 February 2014 22.54 GMT 305 comments Manchester United's Wayne Rooney Manchester United's Wayne Rooney shows his frustration during the 2-0 Champions League defeat at Olympiakos. Photograph: Aris Messinis/AFP/Getty Images Paul Chronnell 1 Caution instead of flair is Moyes's downfall again This was one of the more eagerly awaited teamsheets of the David Moyes reign, and while picking a side for the away game of a two-legged tie can sometimes be an understandable exercise in caution, the starting XI put forward by Moyes would have disappointed many a United supporter. While it was widely expected that the United manager would opt for the industry of Antonio Valencia on the right flank, the inclusion of Ashley Young ahead of either Danny Welbeck or the mysterio ...

Manchester United reportedly want to sign Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez in the summer. David Moyes is keen to sell Ashley Young and Luis Nani after both player performance was dissapointed . Manchester United willing to bid 33 million to sign Pedro.
Ashley Young believes Arsenal have as much to prove as Manchester United when the two sides clash at the Emirates Stadium. Ashley Young on Arsenal game : "There is obviously a lot of disappointment and frustration about the place,". "But the spirit and character we have got means we always want to bounce back."There is no better place to do it than against one of the top four. I'm sure if we can impose ourselves on the game as well as we have done in other games at different stages, we'll go there and get the three points.""You always expect a reaction from a team that had such a defeat like that. It's one of them where they will look back and try to put things right - especially being at home as well and playing against a United team."They will definitely want to put things right but we want to turn things around and put things right too. We want to go out there and be on the front foot, playing the way we can."
David Moyes needs to rethink Manchester United's simplistic tactics The lack of goals from midfield and the reliance on crosses has left out of campions league spot Steve Sidwell may like to offer Manchester United's midfield finishing classes. The Fulham captain's first-half goal in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford was Sidwell's sixth in the league to double the total returned by United's starting quartet of Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Ashley Young and Juan Mata. For a journeyman midfielder to single- handedly outscore the champions' engine room two-to-one is the latest damning statistic in this season of ever-deepening woe for United and their manager, David Moyes. Until Carrick gave United a 2-1 lead on Sunday, the 32-year-old had yet to register in the campaign. Mata, who managed 20 goals in all competitions last season, has zero in three league games since joining and did not score for Chelsea in the league either, the same number as Fletcher (who has missed most of the season through illness), whi ...
What Is Repeating the Same Things over and over and Expecting a Different Result ? Answer Repeating the same thing (event or action) over and over, and then expecting a different result, is often the general definition of insanity. Although this is a non-scientific statement, it is a societal description of someone who behaves in a compulsive manner that represents what appears to be insane behavior. To constantly repeat an action and expect a different result is not logical and therefore is a quick way of demonstrating mental challenges. Alternate Answer. It is David Moyes and his Manchester United tactics. Forget that United put in 81 crosses with only 18 finding a team mate, forget they have already crossed the ball more than 800 times in this league alone. Forget that simple probability dictates that the odds of crossing a ball intended for a Man United player into a box with 6 Fulham defenders and 2 United players will most likely result in a clearance, forget that with Van Persie, Rooney, Mata on pi ...

An interesting read for all; If Manchester United were interested in a 24-year-old English central midfielder, who had double figures in terms of International caps and had won a Premier League Winners medal, what price do you think they would pay? The bidding would have to start at around £15m you would think, and end up at either an Ashley Young price tag, or even as high as a Marouane Fellaini. You may get him for less, but not likely and when you consider City paid £12m for Jack Rodwell, who does not have a League title or anywhere close to double figures in caps then you are going to pay a pretty penny. So, what price is Tom Cleverley worth? Tom Cleverley of Manchester United. £5m? £8m? £10m? If you trawl through some of the social media outlets and message boards then I would be surprised if he was worth a fee. To read and listen to some United fans, you would think Cleverley is not fit to put on a pair of boots, let alone have the honour of trotting out for Manchester United. Well, unfortunate ...
There is a new sense of optimism in the Manchester United camp ahead of Saturday's match at Stoke City. Tuesday evening's 2-0 win against Cardiff City at Old Trafford not only earned the Red Devils a welcome victory - only their second in seven league and cup outings - the match also featured an impressive debut by club record signing Juan Mata, plus the return of star strikers Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney from lingering injuries. Spain midfielder Mata, who moved to United from Premier League rivals Chelsea last weekend for a club-record fee of 37.1 million pounds ($61.2 million), was applauded off the pitch on Tuesday after being substituted after 85 minutes. Netherlands striker Van Persie, who missed 11 matches due to a thigh problem, started against Cardiff and headed United in front after only six minutes. England forward Rooney came on as a 63rd-minute replacement for Van Persie after a five-match absence with groin trouble. Ashley Young scored a second for United just after the hour mark. Unite ...
SPORT: Juan Mata made his Manchester United debut on Tuesday, but it was Robin Van Persie and Ashley Young who earned a 2-0 win over Cardiff City.
Manchester United boss David Moyes could oversee a massive ten-man clearout this year. The Times says there could be a clear-out of senior players in the summer. Those under serious scrutiny include Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, whose contracts expire in June, Antonio Valencia and Javier Hernandez, while Rio Ferdinand , Alexander Buttner , Nani, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa are already likely to be surplus material. Anderson, on-loan Fiorentina, will be offloaded, while Cardiff City signing Wilfried Zaha is also under the gun.
Manchester United new-boy Juan Mata described his Old Trafford debut as ‘amazing’ as he played 85 minutes of the club's 2-0 victory against Cardiff. • Okwonga: As Mata starts, United get the right kind of victory • Jolly: Three Things: Manchester United vs. Cardiff Mata was playing his first Premier League game since Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho substituted him at Southampton on New Year’s Day and he played a part in the second United goal, which was finished off in some style by Ashley Young. “It’s been amazing,” Mata told Sky Sports. “The most important thing is we won and hopefully this is the start of a good run of results. It’s been an amazing game for me, I tried my best and my team- mates were very good. The atmosphere was just unbelievable. “It’s been a while since I did it [played a match], since the January 1st. I am very happy to have played and I look forward to playing more. “I feel very good. When you are playing alongside players like Robin [Van Persie], Chicharit ...
David Moyes says Juan Mata can play anywhere for Manchester United David Moyes believes that Juan Mata has increased the competition for places at Manchester United squad, citing the Spaniard's ability to fulfill different roles. The midfielder made his debut as the Reds ran out 2-0 winners over Cardiff on Tuesday evening, and provided the assist for Ashley Young's second-half strike. Moyes was impressed with Mata's contribution, and says his arrival gives him more options for the remainder of the season. The manager said: "I can play him in any role. He can play off the left or off the right, which allows me to keep the Rooney-Van Persie partnership. I'm quite comfortable with that, and he’s also capable of doing another job like the no.10 role. Wayne has dropped into midfield in some games, so we've got options. "I know we can use Juan in different positions - I think what he'll do [wherever he plays] is take the ball. We'll get used to him and he'll get used to us. Mata scores goals and creates chanc ...
Three Things: Manchester United vs. Cardiff JANUARY 28, 2014 5:56:38 PM PST By Richard Jolly MANCHESTER -- Three thoughts from Man United's 2-0 win over Cardiff. 1. United's fate rests with their top talents Seven days earlier, Manchester United kicked off against Sunderland with Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in attack and no recognised striker in reserve. Fast-forward a week, and manager David Moyes was able to select Juan Mata to play off Robin Van Persie and put Wayne Rooney on the bench. It is a colossal difference. And while the goal of the game came from Ashley Young, who beat David Marshall from 20 yards, and Antonio Valencia twice struck the woodwork, this was a match to reinforce the importance of United's top talents. Sir Alex Ferguson excelled in conjuring performances from the lesser lights, but usually when one of the resident superstars led the way. Van Persie had not played in the past 11 games and had not scored since the first week of November. Thus, his early header, which eased the ...
Manchester United's record signing Juan Mata enjoyed a winning debut on Tuesday as his new club recorded a 2-0 victory at home to Cardiff City in the Premier League. Leaders Arsenal, meanwhile, spurned an opportunity to move four points clear after drawing 2-2 at Southampton, but Liverpool tightened their grip on fourth place with a superb 4-0 defeat of derby rivals Everton. Mata started at Old Trafford, three days after making a £37.1 million move from Chelsea, as former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to his old stomping ground as Cardiff manager. Last season's top scorer Robin Van Persie was also included in United's starting line-up, after seven weeks out with a thigh strain, and the Dutch striker broke the deadlock in the sixth minute. Mata found Ashley Young with a raking pass and when his cross was headed against the bar by Antonio Valencia, Van Persie headed in at the second attempt after his initial header was parried by goalkeeper David Marshall. Young added a fine second in the 59 ...
A winning debut for Juan Mata, the goalscoring return of Robin Van Persie, a Wayne Rooney cameo coming off the bench and a rare goal from Ashley Young. It's definitely a start for Manchester United, isn't it?
Mata might not be able to rescue United’s current season but the quality he will add to their squad is immense and the underperforming players like Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Tom Cleverly will know that if they do not step up, the signings will keep coming in and they will be shown the exit door. United have nothing to lose from this deal and I’m sure Mata will justify his price tag from the first minute as a United player. Chelsea might not feel the wrath of this deal either in this season but might feel the long term affects of this mega deal going in to the next season. The news is going around that Juan Mata will be getting the number 7 jersey. If he has any impact like the previous number 7s (George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo) then Manchester United will be back as title contenders pretty soon!
Juan Mata: A ROLE MODEL AT UNITED!!! Record buy, statement signing, tactical conundrum: Juan Mata is many things. The first footballer to cross the great divide between Chelsea and Manchester United since Juan Sebastian Veron made the opposite journey in 2003 is, like the Argentine was more than a decade ago, a flair player whose presence can prompt managers to reshape a side. Jose Mourinho opted to bench Mata instead. Having spent 37 million pounds on him, David Moyes is unlikely to follow suit, but he is confronted with a dilemma -- how does he fit the Spaniard, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie into the same side? It is an altogether more pleasant problem than wondering whether to play Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia or both. As long as either of United’s star strikers is absent, the answer is easy: behind the other in a 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 formation. When both are back, it becomes more complicated. Mata does not fit naturally into a 4-4-2 system. Instead, other tactics are required. His past shows his ...
WEEKEND ROUND UP Gareth Bale scored his first goal of 2014, as his Real Madrid side demolished basement club Real Betis 5-0. Bale scored a spectacular free-kick after Ronaldo had put Madrid ahead with a spectacular strike of his own. The Welshman looked back to his imperious best, and it looked as though he'd put his injury problems behind him. Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez scored what would only prove to be a consolation for Manchester United, as their title hopes were all but crushed as Samuel Eto'o fired Chelsea to a 3-1 victory. Ashley Young started the game for Utd, and could have put them 1-0 up very early on, Petr Cech equal to his left foot effort. For Chelsea, David Luiz started in his new midfield berth, while Fernando Torres started on the bench as Eto'o started. This proved to be a great decision by Mourinho as Eto'o went on to destroy Utd with a brilliant hat-trick. Chicharito rose from the bench with 35 minutes remaining and gave Utd the spark they had been missing and gave them a glimmer of ...
HALFTIME VERDICT: David Moyes has been punished for dead. Why change a winning outfit? Two key changes Ashley Young and Jones for Shinji Kagawa and Daren Fletcher are were unwarranted. The two haven't justified their inclusion in the side. Why would Moyes for instance rush Jones who has been sidelined due to injury and keep Fletcher who had steadied his game with Carrick at the heart of the midfield? Two goals down against Jose Mourinho and you have one half to play, Moyes and his team will require magic to turn this around. Big decisions required! Chelsea 2-0 Manchester United

Get Involved Those eagle-eyed among you might have noticed BBC Sport's Robbie Savage pick out 12 players he would like to see leave underperforming league champions Manchester United. Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United defender out with knee injury Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is expected to be out for about two weeks with a knee injury. The Former England centre-back, 35, limped out of Sunday's FA Cup defeat by Swansea and had a scan on Monday. He has suffered bruising but has not sustained any damage to his ligaments, as was first feared. Ferdinand is likely to miss three games but should be in contention for the League Cup semi-final second leg with Sunderland on 22 January. United face Chelsea in the Premier League three days before that but Ferdinand is unlikely to be fit in time. Manager David Moyes is already without forwards Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney, winger Ashley Young, midfielder Marouane Fellaini and defender Phil Jones through injury.
League Cup: Sunderland vs. Manchester United: David Moyes is expected to recall a number of big names for the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg at Sunderland at 7.30pm UK. Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and David De Gea are all set to return. OUT FOR THE GAME: - Robin Van Persie (thigh) - Phil Jones (knee) - Marouane Fellaini (wrist) - Ashley Young (shoulder) - Nani (hamstring) - Fabio (starts a three-match ban) - Rio Ferdinand (Knee)
Aston Villa: We all know Aston Villa's main target is to avoid relegation and I think they need a experienced but good CM to help control things. I think the player that would fit in best would be Wigan star Shaun Maloney. He would be great at controlling Villa's game but not to sure if he would like to leave Wigan. They could also get a Winger and a Striker. I would suggest re-signing Ashley Young as he is out of favour at Manchester United and would fit in well. For their striker they should go for Jermaine Defoe, he can get them the goals they need, and it wouldn't hurt to get a change of manager let's just say Paul Lambert isn't the sharpest pencil in the pencil case :) Alan- The Admin

West Ham defender James Collins has accused Adnan Januzaj of "cheating", after the Manchester United midfielder was booked for diving at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Red Devils starlet was shown a yellow card for simulation after throwing himself to the ground with the 30-year-old centre-half in close proximity. The 18-year-old was warned by his manager David Moyes not to let diving "creep into his play" and Collins is confident the Belgian-born youngster will heed that advice. However, the Wales international was nontheless unequivocal in his view of the incident with Januzaj. "It's cheating, basically," Collins told Sky Sports News. "I don't like to see it in the game. He probably thinks I am going to stick my leg out and he's probably already thinking about going over. "Obviously he's taken a dive. He's a young lad, a great player, I'm sure he will learn. "David Moyes seems to have this conversation quite a lot at his club with Ashley Young. "It happens in football. He (Januzaj) is a great player and ...

Manchester United hail Ashley Young and Patrice Evra as they beat Stoke City.
David Moyes will be left 'hailing' Ashley Young and Patrice Evra as Manchester United storm through in Stoke:
Manchester United prevailed 2-0 in a hail storm-interrupted Capital One Cup quarter-final clash with Stoke City. Both sets of players were led from the field just before the half-hour mark, with the inclement conditions at the Britannia Stadium leaving referee Mark Clattenburg unable to see the action unfolding in front of him. In truth, there was not much to get excited about in a first half which was keenly contested but produced few opportunities of note. It became increasingly apparent that a moment of magic would be required to break the deadlock, and Ashley Young produced just that on 62 minutes as he exchanged passes with Javier Hernandez and lashed a 20-yard thunderbolt past Thomas Sorensen. United's second also had a touch of class about it, with skipper Patrice Evra latching onto a pass from Young, bursting into the box and curling the ball into the corner with his right foot. By some considerable distance, the most noteworthy event of the opening half was referee Clattenburg's decision to take ...

The players the Red Devils are looking to sign including two Borussia Dortmund stars. The January Transfer Window could be extremely important for Manchester United as it's the last chance for manager David Moyes to bring in some new talent. The summer was somewhat difficult for the new boss as despite attempts to sign several players, only youngster Guillermo Varela and Marouane Fellaini, on deadline day, were new arrivals. Since then the Red Devils have struggled in the Premier League and are said to be lacking creativity in midfield, so here's five potential targets for the club. 1. Roy Keane has finally said what everyone else is thinking, Ashley Young is not good enough to play for Manchester United
The players Moyes needs to buy and sell to improve Manchester United Three to go Anderson, 25, cost £27m, contracted until summer 2015 Billed as better than Wayne Rooney in his teenage years in Sir Alex Ferguson's recent book, the Brazilian has become the club's perennial disappointment. Signed in 2007 for what now reads as a barely credible £27m, the midfielder has managed 70 league starts in six years, with how he remains at United a puzzle for fans. The quips aimed at Anderson about his weight by his own-teammates point to a player who has seriously stagnated. In the final two years of his deal a January sale would make sense though the club might struggle to receive £10m for him. Antonio Valencia, cost £16m, contracted until summer 2015 Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani are a gang-of-three Manchester United widemen whose stock has fallen. Manchester United's Ashley Young may have burned bridges with the fans - Belfast Telegraph
How quickly things change, Arsenal have nothing to fear Two seasons ago it seemed the gulf between Manchester United and Arsenal was insurmountable. They finished the league 19 points ahead of the Gunners and threw in an 8-2 spanking in a game which made Ashley Young look like a decent footballer and not an Olympic goal medal winning high diver. Arsenal had just lost Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and, despite the impact of Arteta and Mertesacker, the signings of Benayoun, Park and Andre Santos looked unlikely to bridge the gap. Even last season, after Robin Van Persie wrote the letter which meant the club had little choice but to sell him and Arsenal finished 16 points adrift with the Dutchman a key component in United's team, it looked as if it would take something special to close things up. Or, perhaps the loss of something special. And with Alex Ferguson's retirement that's what happened. If you're a fan of any other club he was not likeable at all, but his record was second to none. Indeed, he was th ...

Manchester United boss David Moyes defended Ashley Young against fresh diving accusations after their 0-0 draw at Champions League opponents Real Sociedad. Young won a penalty, which was missed by Robin Van Persie, and former United skipper Roy Keane was scathing in his analysis on ITV. "Ashley Young has conned the referee," said the Irishman. However, Moyes adopted a more defensive tone. "I have seen it and the boy certainly tugs him in the box," said the United boss. "If you look the referee is two yards away from it and decided to give it. "All I know is he got a penalty kick from a decision, I don't know anything about reputations or anything. "The referee was there. He made quite a lot of decisions tonight and that one he gave a penalty kick."

Ashley Young aiming to win back David Moyes trust at Manchester United
Real Sociedad coach Jagoba Arrasate conceded that his side merited no more than their 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Manchester United. Heading to Old Trafford on the back of consecutive Group A defeats, Sociedad suffered the worst possible start when Wayne Rooney's shot came back off the post and Inigo Martinez put through his own net after just two minutes. The visitors eventually rallied and Antoine Griezmann and Alberto de la Bella both struck the crossbar as United suffered some nervy moments, but had any of the late chances that fell to Rooney, Antonio Valencia, Shinji Kagawa and Ashley Young been converted it would have leant a more accurate slant to the scoreline.
