Man United's agony: 6 strikers and not a single shot on goal! How could a front six including Angel Di Maria, Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata fail to get a single shot on target in a 1-0 home defeat by Southmapton? Saints sub Tadic sinks United, Arsenal cruise That was the question that Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal would have been wrestling with over his Sunday supper. On paper it looks a formidable array of attacking talent, especially with wing backs Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw providing width on the lush Old Trafford turf. Yet the reality was worrying. Following an impressive climb up the table after a slow start to the season under Dutchman Van Gaal, United have managed only one win in their last five and the goals have dried up. Since a 3-1 win over Newcastle United on December 26, they drew 0-0 with Tottenham Hotspur, 1-1 with Stoke City and on Sunday lost to Southampton in the league for the first time in 27 years. Despite having plenty of possession they created preciou ...

Marcos Rojo returned to training for Manchester United on Tuesday, Goal understands. The centre-back dislocated his shoulder during the defeat to cross-city rivals Manchester City on November 2, requiring oxygen as he was stretchered from the field. Louis Van Gaal stated that he hoped to be able to call upon his summer signing within six weeks, but Rojo is now hopeful he could be back inside a fortnight, potentially in time for the trip to high-flying Southampton on December 8. Rojo's progress will come as a relief to Van Gaal who has struggled with the fitness of his defenders all season, with Antonio Valencia deployed at right-back during the recent 2-1 win over Arsenal - a game which also saw left-back Luke Shaw limp off. Youngsters Tyler Blackett and Patrick McNair have been drafted into the first team, while Michael Carrick has also been deployed as cover following his own return from injury. Rojo joined United from Sporting in a deal worth £16 million in August, with winger Nani moving to the Portu ...
Team of week has 4 man u players: Chelsea made it a club record 12-match unbeaten league start as their dominant win over 10-man West Brom extended their lead to seven points. Manchester City beat Swansea to remain eight points behind in third, while Manchester United moved into the top four with victory at Arsenal. At the other end, Burnley moved off the bottom with victory at Stoke. Following the weekend's action, take a look at my team of the week and see if you agree with my choices. - GOALKEEPER - Ben Foster (West Brom) Foster has kept 24 clean sheets in 102 Premier League games for West Bromwich Albion- -- DEFENDER - Antonio Valencia (Manchester United) Manchester United's Valencia had a team high 68 touches against Arsenal What an asset Antonia Valencia has proved to be for Manchester United. Arsenal 1 Man Utd 2 Manchester United moved back into the top four of the Premier League with a 2-1 smash- and-grab raid at Arsenal. All the pre-match hype had been over Danny Welbeck facing his former club, but the England forward had few opportunites to prove United boss Lois Van Gaal wrong as United rode their luck before striking twice in the second half. Antonio Valencia's shot was deflected in off Kieran Gibbs, whose collision with Wojciech Szczesny saw the Arsenal keeper substituted, on 55 minutes before, as the Gunners pressed, Wayne Rooney clipped in a second on the break. Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud marked his return from three months out with a broken ankle by netting a well-struck consolation in stoppage-time. It was a second-successive defeat for Arsenal, who had completely dominated the first half, but failed to beat David De Gea, who saved a one-on-one from Jack Wilshere, who later went off with an injured ankle. While United will head back north with confidence renewed, Gunners boss Ars ...

Five questions in advance of Arsenal vs. Manchester United By Nick Miller Nick Miller looks at five key talking points regarding Saturday's clash between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirates. 1. Who is going to play in defence for Manchester United? United manager Louis Van Gaal must be wondering what he did to anger whichever cruel god has cursed his Manchester United side this season. United's defence has been shaky at the best of times since he took over, but Van Gaal will go into Saturday's game with Marcos Rojo definitely out, and major doubts hanging over Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Rafael. Van Gaal might be forced to play a winger in Antonio Valencia at right back, central defender Tyler Blackett at left back, and in the middle, two of Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair or Michael Carrick. Smalling has looked little short of a liability at various points this season, McNair is a teenager with a handful of games under his belt and Carrick is a midfielder, who actually might be required ...
Your challenge is to name a more unlikely, ill-fitting and patched-up Manchester United back-four than the pair of midfielders and two 19-year-olds who ended up defending David De Gea’s net against the league champions and noisy neighbours on the other side of town. Antonio Valencia, who started right-back here, is a right winger. Michael Carrick, who came on as an emergency centre-back, is a holding midfielder. And Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair are both teenagers. Necessity, of course, once Chris Smalling had decided that one aberration really ought to be followed up with another (injuries are another mitigating factor). But how the club of Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister, of Jaap Stam and Rio Ferdinand, have had to embrace such extreme ad-libbing is now the most pressing question in Louis Van Gaal’s jerky first campaign. LVG, as we know him, was without Rafael, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans. With respect to those players, it would hardly compare to Chelsea losing John Terry, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivano ...
Louis Van Gaal slammed Chris Smalling and labelled him "stupid" after he was given a red card for two bookable offences in the first half of Manchester United's1-0 defeat to Manchester City. The England international, who started the game at centre-back, picked up his first caution for needlessly charging down Joe Hart's goal-kick before hacking down James Milner before half-time. That meant United had to play the remaining 52 minutes with 10 men and a makeshift back four of Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw after Marcus Rojo also exited the game after dislocating his shoulder. Sergio Aguero ultimately made the extra man count by firing home a 63rd minute winner for City, though United did at least display an admirable spirit in the second period and could even have snatched a point, with Robin Van Persie, Angel Di Maria and Fellaini all going close. After the game, Van Gaal spoke of his anger at Smalling and said the defender was guilty of failing to control his aggression, wh ...
Early Team news ladies Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal denied reports Wayne Rooney had suffered a foot injury and the striker will return after his three-match ban. Radamel Falcao has been ruled out with a leg problem, but Antonio Valencia returns after a hamstring injury.
Louis Van Gaal has confirmed that Antonio Valencia, Jonny Evans and Paddy McNair are all still not ready to return for Manchester United.
Manchester United vs Chelsea: Potential starting line-up - No Di Maria and Herrera. Manchester United vs Chelsea is definetly the biggest test yet this season but there are fresh injury concerns and questions about who should step in for the injuries. Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera are the two biggest concerns and it begs the question – how would United line-up if neither is fit and available for selection? Marouane Fellaini is a shoe-in to start against Chelsea after his performance against West Brom on Monday night but with Antonio Valencia also out injured and Van Gaal reluctant to use Darren Fletcher or Anderson, choosing a midfield partner is more difficult. A lack of options could see Louis Van Gaal play Juan Mata in a deeper role which would also allow Adnan Januzaj to play in a more central No.10 position, somewhere fans feel he can thrive rather than out on the wing. As for up front, with Wayne Rooney suspended the duo of Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao are unlikely to change. What do you ...
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has ordered Antonio Valencia to have English lessons. The Ecuador international has been in England since 2006.
Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has been ordered by manager Louis Van Gaal to take English lessons – despite having lived here for eight years.
Sunderland v Manchester Utd preview Striker Robin Van Persie is fully fit and available for Manchester United's game at Sunderland on Sunday. Midfielders Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera (all ankle) are out, as is utility man Jesse Lingard, who has a knee injury, but Antonio Valencia has recovered from the leg problem that kept him out of the defeat to Swansea. Defenders Jonny Evans (leg), Luke Shaw (hamstring) and Marcos Rojo (awaiting work permit) are unavailable while doubts remain over right-back Rafael (groin) and striker Danny Welbeck (knee), who has also been told he can leave the club. Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet will welcome defenders Billy Jones and Santiago Vergini back into his squad for Sunday's Barclays Premier League visit of Manchester United. Jones missed the 2-2 draw with former club West Brom last weekend because of a troublesome hamstring, while Vergini is understood to have sat out because of an administrative problem - but both will be available this weekend. ...
SUNDERLAND v Man Utd PREVIEW Barclays Premier League Venue: Stadium of Light Date: Sunday, 24 August TEAM NEWS Sunderland will be boosted by the return of defenders Billy Jones and Santiago Vergini, who have both trained this week. Italian midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini is expected to be out for another three weeks with a groin problem. Manchester United pair Robin Van Persie and Antonio Valencia are now fit and available but new defender Marcos Rojo has not received a work permit in time. Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Jesse Lingard are all injured. MATCH PREVIEW I tried hard to find a sign that Garry Monk wasn't being totally sincere last weekend when he insisted that his Swansea side winning at Old Trafford was pleasing only for the points and no more special due to where and who they were won against. I tried - but couldn't. He really meant it. Manchester United have announced their squad numbers for the 2014-15 campaign, with Adnan Januzaj taking the No.11 shirt. The Belgium international inherits the number vacated by the recently retired Ryan Giggs, who ended one of the most decorated ever playing careers to become Louis Van Gaal's assistant manager this summer. New midfield signing Ander Herrera takes the No.21, while £30m teenager Luke Shaw is handed the No.3 as he succeeds Juventus-bound Patrice Evra. The club's legendary No.7 shirt remains vacant, having been given up by Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia over a year ago, and could yet be filled by transfer target Juan Cuadrado. There is also no No.9 listed by Van Gaal's side, with newly confirmed captain Wayne Rooney keeping his No.10. Retaining their squad numbers are the likes of Anderson, Wilfried Zaha and Marouane Fellaini, all of whom have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford this summer. SQUAD NUMBERS IN FULL: 1. De Gea; 2. Rafael; 3. Shaw; 4. Jones; 6. Evans; 8. Mata; 10 ...
Louis Van Gaal feels he will need far longer to turn Manchester United's fortunes around despite completing the pre-season with six wins out of six. United rounded off their schedule of pre-season fixtures with a 2-1 win over Valencia on Tuesday, giving the Dutchman, who took over after leading the Netherlands to third place at the World Cup last month, victory in his first match as Red Devils boss at Old Trafford. They now face Swansea in their Premier League opener at home on Saturday but Van Gaal is unsure whether Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia, who sat out Tuesday's match through injury, will be available. With those three sidelined, Van Gaal had Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Tyler Blackett at centre-back, with Ashley Young and Reece James playing as wing-backs and Michael Keane the only defender on the bench against Spanish side Valencia. Left-back Shaw and midfielder Ander Herrera have been the only new signings so far this pre- season, although United are widely reported to have made ...
Manchester United's successful Tour 2014, presented by Aon, continued with a penalty shoot-out victory after Louis Van Gaal's men were held to a goalless draw by Inter Milan. Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez, Tom Cleverley, Shinji Kagawa and Darren Fletcher all converted from the spot to complete a full set of kicks for the Reds – playing in the new blue third kit for the first time – while Marco Andreolli's miss for Inter proved pivotal at the FedEx Field, home of NFL legends Washington Redskins. Van Gaal started with his three senior centre-backs all on the pitch, with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones switching to the middle and right respectively, while Jonny Evans retained the left-sided role in which he began the tour against LA Galaxy. Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia took up the wing-back positions, with Ander Herrera and again-captain Darren Fletcher allowing Juan Mata to support Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck. The man who Evans, Jones and Smalling are all striving to replace, Inter's new no.15 Ne ...

The Netherlands winger was clocked sprinting at a record-breaking pace during Friday's stunning victory over Spain. Arjen Robben is officially the fastest footballer of all time after reaching a top speed of 23 miles per hour as the Netherlands thrashed Spain 5-1. The Bayern Munich man left Sergio Ramos trailing as he sped through the middle of the pitch and into the penalty area before firing home the fifth Dutch goal in Friday's game. MORE: Ghana vs. USA photos | | Brazil protests | Soccer fanatics | Fan tattoos Prior to that record-breaking burst, Arsenal and England star Theo Walcott was the quickest player in the world with a speed of nearly 22 mph. Robben's previous personal best was clocked at just under 20 mph for Bayern. Perhaps, more impressive, is the fact he has broken the record pace set by a footballer at the age of 30. Further down the list of speedsters are Manchester United's Antonio Valencia, Gareth Bale in fourth, fifth-placed Aaron Lennon and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now sixth. Behind ...
Ben Foster has described Raheem Sterling's red card against Ecuador as “harsh” but insisted the teenager's dismissal should not detract from the positives gleaned from England's penultimate warm-up fixture ahead of the World Cup . Sterling became the 13th senior England player to be sent off, and the first in a friendly since Trevor Cherry against Argentina in 1977, for a foul on Antonio Valencia. The Manchester United Player's angry reaction, grabbing the England substitute by the back of his neck and then the throat, saw him also shown red, with the Liverpool winger to miss Saturday's friendly against Honduras at Sun Life stadium through suspension.Advertisement That will constitute a blow for his chances of featuring from the start in Brazil, denying him a final opportunity to impress Roy Hodgson. “I'm surprised all round,” said Foster, a former team-mate of Valencia's at Old Trafford. “I didn't think it was a red card for Raheem and I played for a few years with Antonio and he's not that kin ...
Tempers flared in the latter stages of England's 2-2 draw with Ecuador as Premier League stars Raheem Sterling and Antonio Valencia were sent off the temperature reached boiling point in Miami. With eleven minutes remaining, Liverpool's Sterling became the 13th England player to receive his marching orders after a wild sliding tackle on Manchester United counterpart Valencia sparked a late brawl. Substitute Sterling had only been on the pitch for 15 minutes before launching into a flying challenge near the touchline which got the ball - but took Valencia out afterwards. The angered Ecuador captain responded by jumping to his feet and grabbing the England winger’s neck, before the pair were split up. As tempers flared, American official Jair Marrufo gave both players their marching orders. The red card rules the Liverpool winger out of England's final World Cup warm-up match against Honduras on Saturday. 03 Jun 2014 PA Ecuador head coach Reinaldo Rueda has named Segundo Castillo in his 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ squad despite the midfielder suffering a nasty knee injury in Saturday's friendly against Mexico. Castillo has undergone tests and treatment since suffering his blow when Mexico's Luis Montes went in *** him in a 50-50 challenge. Montes came out worst as he suffered a broken leg, while Castillo, despite looking to have his knee bent back at an unnatural angle in the tackle, has a hope of playing at the tournament in Brazil. Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia is the star name in Ecuador's 23-man party, which was announced on the national federation's website. The 28-year-old will be hoping to put a miserable domestic campaign with United behind him when his country take on Switzerland, Honduras and France in Group E. Manchester United's in-house television channel MUTV have announced they will broadcast Holland's friendly with Ecuador live on Saturday. Manchester United will give supporters a glimpse of Louis Van Gaal in action when they broadcast Holland's friendly against Ecuador live on their in-house channel this Saturday. The Dutch coach is expected to be unveiled as David Moyes' successor next week after the club revealed they would not announce anything immediately. MUTV are handing fans the opportunity to see exactly how Van Gaal is setting up his side ahead of the World Cup - even if they are billing the screening as Robin Van Persie coming up against team-mate Antonio Valencia. It will be shown at 7.30pm live from the Amsterdam ArenA. Van Persie is Holland's captain and talisman up front, while Valencia provides a potent threat down the right for the South Americans. There is some speculation as to how Van Gaal will operate in Brazil, which could have an impact on how United go about trying to regain their Champions League status next season. His default formation is the popular 4-3-3, but the former Barcelona boss admitted this week that he h ...
08/04/2014 08:51, Report by Adam Marshall Vote: Player of the Year It's voting time for Manchester United's Player of the Year with an open race for the coveted Sir Matt Busby trophy likely to unfold. You can choose from any current United player who has made at least one appearance during the 2013/2014 season for the award Robin Van Persie won last year. Wayne Rooney is bidding to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo by scooping the award for a third time after lifting it in 2008 and 2010. The Reds' no.10 is an outstanding candidate after earning three Player of the Month successes, but Adnan Januzaj triumphed in October and January and is another strong contender. David De Gea has won plenty of admirers with his stunning saves and consistency throughout the campaign and would be a popular choice after nailing down the no.1 position and emerging as one of the most talented goalkeepers in the world. January recruit Juan Mata has made an instant impression at Old Trafford and is another who has really endeared himsel ...
Manchester United 4-0 Norwich City: Rooney & Mata hand Giggs emphatic debut win The two stars both scored braces to hand the Welshman - appointed in the wake of David Moyes' sacking in midweek - the perfect start to his short-term reign at Old Trafford A brace apiece from Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney gave Ryan Giggs a winning start to his interim reign as Manchester United boss. Giggs – appointed as short-term manager following David Moyes' sacking in midweek – initially opted to leave Mata on the bench, but introduced him in the second-half, with the score already at 2-0. The man who flew down the wing for nearly a quarter of a century is off to a flying start in the United dugout. The team left the field to the strains of "Ryan Giggs' Red Army" after a comprehensive 4-0 dismantling of a hapless Norwich City who remain deeply entrenched in the relegation quagmire. This win did not tell us an awful lot about United we didn't know. Norwich are the weakest away team in the division but they still took som ...
Ryan Giggs’ spell as interim Manchester United manager began on a positive note on Saturday, the Red Devils romping to a commanding win over Norwich. Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata netted two goals each for United, who piled yet more relegation woe on the Canaries at Old Trafford. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand paired up in defence for the hosts, with Danny Welbeck starting in attack. Mata was on the bench, with Adnan Januzaj and Marouane Fellaini left out entirely. For the away side, Gary Hooper was among the substitutes despite scoring against Liverpool last weekend. United started on the front foot, with Antonio Valencia prominent on the right flank. Norwich almost grabbed a shock opener, however, Jonny Howson seeing his effort chalked off for a foul in the area. United’s first chance fell to Welbeck, whose powerful effort was palmed away by John Ruddy at his near post. The England striker would continue to threaten, however, and played a crucial role in the opener. After some pinball in the Norwich b ...
Ryan Giggs's stint as Manchester United manager got off to a winning start this evening as Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata both scored braces in a 4-0 win over ailing Norwich City at Old Trafford. Norwich thought they might have snuck in front inside the first 10 minutes but Jonny Howson's goal from close range was ruled out because Ricky van Wolfswinkel had pushed Phil Jones at the back post to head across to his teammate. United had little bite in the first half, with Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia testing John Ruddy from narrow angles before they made the breakthrough five minutes before half time. It came from the penalty spot and Rooney after a cross escaped three Norwich defenders to reach Welbeck, who was tripped up by Steven Whittaker. Rooney doubled the hosts' lead inside the first two minutes of the second half by curling a low 20-yard shot in off the post after Norwich's players had given him plenty of space in a central position. Norwich almost halved the deficit just before the hour mark, but ...
Football - Premier League United hit four to give Giggs winning start Premier League, Old Trafford - Manchester United 4 (Rooney 40’ pen 48’ Mata 64’ 73’) Norwich City 0 Ryan Giggs enjoyed his first win as Manchester United manager with a 4-0 victory over Norwich City. Giggs watched in a suit from the sidelines, having left himself out of the match day squad. He was joined in the dugout by Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville. United initially played much as they had for the whole season, struggling to find momentum or break the opposition down. Most of the play came down the right wing, with Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia sending in a number of poor crosses. Just before half time, Steven Whittaker brought down Danny Welbeck as he prepared to latch onto a loose ball Norwich failed to clear, and Wayne Rooney scored with a confident penalty. In the second half, Rooney took three minutes to extend the lead, curling in a fine shot from 25 yards. United regained some of their old confidence, and ...
Ryan Giggs marked his first match in charge of Manchester United by leaving out David Moyes' two major signings for Saturday's clash against Norwich. Giggs was appointed as interim manager on Tuesday following Moyes' sacking just 10 months after the Scot arrived at Old Trafford. And the 40-year-old immediately dropped Spanish midfielder Juan Mata, who cost a club record £37.1 million from Chelsea in January, as one of six changes to the team beaten 2-0 at Everton in Moyes' final game last weekend. Mata was named on the bench at Old Trafford, but there was no place in the matchday squad for Belgian midfielder Fellaini, who has endured a miserable season following his £25 million move from Everton. Fellaini had been on the bench at Goodison Park, but he was missing as Giggs recalled Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck. Mata, Chris Smalling, Alexander Buttner, Jonny Evans, Nani and Darren Fletcher were the players who made way. Vidic, Ferdinand, Cle ...

What is the Manchester United Way? An explanation. By Simon Stone BBC Sport It is one of the major reasons why David Moyes is said to have lost his job and Ryan Giggs says he wants to bring it back over the remaining four games of the season. "It is my philosophy and it is Manchester United's philosophy," said the Welshman when he spoke to the media on Friday. But what is this mystical "Manchester United Way", which has the power to make or break managers? Speaking to Bobby Charlton upon the player's arrival at Old Trafford as a raw 15-year-old, United manager Sir Matt Busby encapsulated the essence of an attitude that pervades around Old Trafford to this day. Matt Busby with Bobby Charlton "All those lads you see going to the factory in Trafford Park, they come to watch you on Saturday," Busby told Charlton. "They have boring jobs, so you have to give them something they will enjoy." It cannot always be that way, of course. Queens Park Rangers 10-2 Manchester United (Capital One Cup ) Man Utd's match against Q.P.R. will have been a moment Man Utd's Simon Kjær will want to forget as he suffered defeat at the hands of his former club. Striker CHRISTAIN got Queens Park Rangers off to a flying start by scoring a well timed finish from close range in the 6th minute. CHRISTAIN added his 2nd goal of the game with a close range finish which was timed impeccably in the 9th minute. An error from Manchester United's Leandrão allowed CHRISTAIN to score a close range header. CHRISTAIN added his 4th goal of the game with an accurate finish in the 22nd minute. Tireless midfielder Antonio Valencia ensured things went from bad to worse for Manchester United on 30 minutes with an embarrassing own-goal. Welbeck added another goal for Queens Park Rangers with a header in the 43rd minute. Striker Javier Hernández pulled one back for Manchester United after 45 minutes with an effort from range. Another goal was added when DANNY G scored with a ...
Antonio Valencia frustrated by game time at Manchester United
Manchester United all the way to the Semis tonight...in King Wazza Wayne Rooney, Shinji Kagawa, Darren Fletcher, Antonio Valencia and David De Gea i believe. O'yinks
Manchester United's team for the game against Bayern Munich appears to have leaked, according to the Daily Mirror, with Rio Ferdinand dropped from the side. Chris Smalling takes the place of the veteran defender at centre-back, while Phil Jones is at right-back, and Shinji Kagawa starts in the hole, with Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck out wide. There is also a place for Darren Fletcher, who partners Michael Carrick in midfield. The reported team in full: De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Evra; Carrick, Fletcher; Valencia, Kagawa, Welbeck; Rooney.
How can Manchester United topple Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich? In his regular BBC Sport tactics column, Robbie Savage looks at the task facing United. "United manager David Moyes says he might try something different in the second leg," says Savage. "But I cannot see United playing any more open than they did at Old Trafford. If they do that, they will get hammered. "The way United were set up was exactly right to stop Bayern. They had pace on both wings in Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia to help their full-backs against Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery."
A recent study published by FIFA has given us the names for the top 10 fastest football players in the World in 2014. The ranking is led by Manchester United's Antonio Valencia, who has reportedly reached a top speed of 35.1 km/h in one of his past games in England. Right behind him is Real Madrid's new signing Gareth Bale with 34.7 km/h and in 3rd place comes Tottenham's Aaron Lenon, with a record of 33.8 km/h. This study, which has been based on computerized data gathered by FIFA over the last months, listed Cristiano Ronaldo as the 4th fastest athlete in the game and reports that the Portuguese forward maximum speed in his recent games has been exactly 33.6 km/h. A bit slower is Barcelona's Lionel Messi, who was ranked 6th and capable of reaching a top speed of 32.5 km/h. The full list can be checked below.

Last night presented Manchester United with the opportunity to face up against a player they have been strongly linked with signing this summer in the form of Toni Kroos. Kroos had a decent game in a Bayern Munich midfield which dominated United for most of the match, he protected possession well and looked like a potentially very good investment on the part of the club. So how did he shape up against the players who started in United’s midfield; Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Danny Welbeck over on the left hand side. Passing Accuracy Kroos outperformed all of United’s midfielders with a passing accuracy percentage of 96%. The United midfielder with the highest passing accuracy was Fellaini on 75%, Carrick with 74% and Welbeck with 73%. It suggests Kroos would be just as effective, if not more so, in terms of passing against United’s current crop of midfield stars. Kroos also made more passes than any United player during the game with 92, only Philipp Lahm and ...
Manchester United vs Bayern Munich Preview Following a rampant 4-1 display against Aston Villa, Manchester United face the toughest test of the season in the Champions League as they face holders Bayern Munich; arguably the best team in the world. United are understandably the underdogs in this clash and they face a massive task to cause an improbable upset. The first leg will be played at Old Trafford, meaning that we must put in a good performance to keep the deficit as little as we are able to, to give us some real hope for the trip to the Allianz Arena. David Moyes is responsible for United tactically, so it will be interesting to see how he plans to break down Bayern’s brilliant attacking force and hjt them on the break. The likes of Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia will be crucial with their physical abilities and pace not only in terms of attack, but also in terms of defence; hopefully they can exploit the very few gaps Bayern’s formidable defence will leave behind. With Mata ineligible to pl ...
Manchester United 0 Manchester City 3: Five things we learned at Old Trafford. David Moyes got it all wrong, David Silva is key and the balance of power has shifted in Manchester By MARK OGDEN, Telegraph sports writer. 1. Confusion over Valencia's selection With Manchester City’s frailties on the left side of defence well documented this season, the decision of David Moyes, the Manchester United manager, to start without a right winger was baffling. Paul Scholes, sitting in the television studio, admitted to being “amazed” by the non-selection of Antonio Valencia, but within 10 minutes the Ecuador international was stripped and ready to go on at Old Trafford – before he was told to sit on the bench again moments later. 2. Cleverley is exposed by his manager Tom Cleverley has had a rough ride this season, with his performances on the pitch leading to a ridiculous online petition designed to have the United midfielder omitted from England’s squad for the World Cup finals in Brazil this summer. But ...

Antonio Valencia injury last night was a mere scratch compared to this. Zenit star suffers horrific head injury after Lewandowski clash. If you thought Antonio Valencia's swollen eye was bad following an early clash of heads in Manchester United's Champions League match against Olympiakos last night, then spare a thought for Zenit St Petersburg defender Tomas Hubocan, who suffered a horrific head injury after a challenge with Robert Lewandowski in Germany last night. The 28-year-old defender was laid out on the ground and covered in blood after suffering a huge gash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening, when the Polish striker's knee accidentally caught his opponent on the side of the face. Hubocan required extensive treatment in the closing minutes of the last-16 second leg clash, before returning to the field with head bandaged up to play to the final whistle. But, even after putting his body on the line, the Slovak was left disappointed at the end of the game, as the Russian giants crashed ou ...
Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia looked worse for wear after a nasty collision with Olympiacos forward Joel Campbell in the early stages of the Champions League second leg at Old Trafford.
Old Trafford reached fever pitch. When Robin Van Persie’s free kick hit the back of the net and clinched his hat-trick, all control was lost. Months of frustration were released at that moment; belief that had wavered was reborn. At the weekend, Manchester United sank as low as they could with a 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool, but with this 3-0 win over Olympiakos that sent them to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, they began the long climb back. “They were fantastic and they deserved this,” said Wayne Rooney of the fans after the game. Never a truer word has been spoken. As their bitterest rivals sauntered out of this arena victorious on Sunday, the crowd sang louder and louder. 20 times this club has won the English league championship -- they remind you of that in these parts. This is a proud club; finally, they have something to shout about again. Diego Maradona's Barcelona were the last team to surrender a two goal advantage in this stadium some 30 years ago. That night United were drive ...

Robin Van Persie & Ryan Giggs THROW David Moyes A MANCHESTER UNITED LIFELINE A 3-0 comeback against Olympiakos does not solve all of the Red Devils' problems at once but a rediscovered conviction is the best thing the players could have given their boss. In a week in which reports of player unrest have been at their most frequent, Manchester United could hardly have wanted anyone more than Robin Van Persie to step up and push them into the Champions League quarter-finals. He was not the only man to show his worth; Wayne Rooney, David De Gea, Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia (playing with essentially just one eye) all played their part in getting Old Trafford roaring, as particularly did Ryan Giggs, whose decisive passing quality brought about the first two goals. But, after a difficult season thus far - gripes and struggles both private and awkwardly public, with some even calling for him to be dropped for the game - a marquee match for the man whose goals carried an already fading United side to their ...
International Reds round-up Marouane Fellaini scored for Belgium in a 2-2 draw against Ivory Coast in Brussels to lead our round-up of Manchester United's international players. David Moyes' first major signing for the Reds nodded home a Dries Mertens corner with keeper Mande Sayouba in no man's land in the 17th minute before being replaced at half time. Antonio Valencia's Ecuador staged a remarkable recovery as they won 4-3 against Australia at The Den in London. The skipper saw his side fall 3-0 down but he eventually set up the leveller for Enner Valencia, after the Socceroos were reduced to 10 men. Edison Mendez then snatched a late winner deep into stoppage time following a cross by the United right winger. Darren Fletcher made his Scotland comeback as a second-half substitute, controlling midfield with Scott Brown and helping Gordon Strachan's men record an eye-catching 1-0 success in Poland. Brown notched the winner with 13 minutes remaining. Patrice Evra and Robin Van Persie came face-to-face in P ...

Manchester United manager David Moyes has reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon as a surprise summer transfer target. The Red Devils boss is expected to have a £200m war chest to improve his heavily-criticised squad at the end of what is likely to be the club's worst ever Premier League season. Football Direct News understands that he intends to use a small chunk of this figure to try and tempt Spurs into selling Lennon, who has been a regular since his £1m switch from Leeds United in 2005. Moyes has apparently been a fan of the 26-year-old's pace and directness since he was in charge of Everton and sees him as a better option than Antonio Valencia on United's right wing. Lennon has scored one goal in 22 games in all competitions for Spurs this season.
Olympiakos 2 Manchester United 0: Five Champions League talking points David Moyes favoured caution over flair, leaving out players such as Welbeck, Kagawa and Januzaj. He must be braver if United are to turn the tie round in the second leg Tuesday 25 February 2014 22.54 GMT 305 comments Manchester United's Wayne Rooney Manchester United's Wayne Rooney shows his frustration during the 2-0 Champions League defeat at Olympiakos. Photograph: Aris Messinis/AFP/Getty Images Paul Chronnell 1 Caution instead of flair is Moyes's downfall again This was one of the more eagerly awaited teamsheets of the David Moyes reign, and while picking a side for the away game of a two-legged tie can sometimes be an understandable exercise in caution, the starting XI put forward by Moyes would have disappointed many a United supporter. While it was widely expected that the United manager would opt for the industry of Antonio Valencia on the right flank, the inclusion of Ashley Young ahead of either Danny Welbeck or the mysterio ...
Diabolical United lose to Olympiacos Champions League, Karaiskakis Stadium - Olympiacos 2 (Dominguez 38’ Campbell 54’) Manchester United 0 Manchester United appalled their way to a 2-0 defeat at Olympiacos. United struggled to put a pass together in the opposition half, and Olympiacos exploited the obvious lack of competence and confidence. Their best chance came when Tom Cleverley flashed a chance wide from a corner. Olympiacos’ first goal came when Joel Campbell’s shot was blocked, and drifted out to an unmarked Giannis Maniatis, whose poor shot was heading wide until Alejandro Dominguez flicked it in the opposite direction, past the stranded David De Gea. United’s similarly poor second half performance was duly punished when Campbell scored a fantastic goal, curling the ball around Rio Ferdinand from 25 yards. Cleverley and Antonio Valencia, poor but not the only poor United players, were replaced by Shinji Kagawa and Danny Welbeck, but it made absolutely no difference to an alarmingly pathet ...

The club, we all want that." ● Rafael Alcantara has been linked to Manchester United despite the fact that the 21-year-old signed a new contract in the summer. He has enjoyed a loan spell this season but his father Mazinho admitted he may be forced to look elsewhere for game time. (The Mirror)
Manchester United have a collection of stars on the verge of the final year of their contracts. Despite clear interest of late from Chelsea, Wayne Rooney looks likely to sign a new deal at Old Trafford worth around £300,000 a week, but David Moyes' potential cull of playing staff mean others face uncertain futures. Antonio Valencia may be handed a short-term extension, Darren Fletcher's status depends on his continued comeback from illness, while Michael Carrick may well be overlooked for a deal due to a downturn in form - with one prospect being early retirement. Tom Cleverley has until November to prove he is worthy of a prolonged stay. Despite the fact he'll be 31 by next summer, Per Mertesacker is likely to be offered a new deal by Arsenal if his current form holds. Mathieu Flamini is in the same boat. Mikel Arteta could be moved on, while Thomas Vermaelen and Abou Diaby are almost certain not to be retained, with the Belgian set to be sold this summer. Napoli are interested. MOYES: TRUST ME ON ZAHA. HE HAS Man Utd FUTURE, Manchester United boss David Moyes has urged fans to trust him over his handling of Wilfried Zaha. Zaha, frozen out by Moyes, has been loaned to Cardiff City , where he was outstanding on debut in victory over Norwich City last week. "At times you have to believe what the manager is seeing as well," Moyes said. "There is big competition for those wide areas. "When I came in, I had Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young. Then we had the emergence of Adnan (Januzaj). Shinji (Kagawa) can play off one of the sides. "I have seen Wilfried training every day as well. I am privy to that." Indeed, Zaha had been told he could go out on loan if the opportunity arose, only for injuries to delay his exit until the end of last month. "We might have got him on loan even earlier but for the (hamstring) injury to Nani. I just wanted to see how that was," Moyes said. "It is good for him, it is good for his development. Everybody will have a chance to see how he plays. "The i ...
More At The Empire Of Manchester United By HaYtHeMoViC 17 October was an excellent month for Manchester United as the Reds went on an unbeaten run and ended the period with a promising run of three straight wins. But while the results were clearly due to a team effort, there were also some brilliant moments of individual skill and ingenuity to behold - as shown in our monthly Trickbox video for United Uncovered. The idea behind it is simple - we look out for the moments in matches that get fans out of their seats and fortunately there is a long list of players at Old Trafford capable of doing that. The end-of-October edition features starring roles from Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney, as well as classy cameos from Antonio Valencia, Adnan Januzaj and Wilfried Zaha. Enjoy it now in the video player above.
Manchester United boss David Moyes could oversee a massive ten-man clearout this year. The Times says there could be a clear-out of senior players in the summer. Those under serious scrutiny include Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, whose contracts expire in June, Antonio Valencia and Javier Hernandez, while Rio Ferdinand , Alexander Buttner , Nani, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa are already likely to be surplus material. Anderson, on-loan Fiorentina, will be offloaded, while Cardiff City signing Wilfried Zaha is also under the gun.
The match went through three broad phases: The first was the opening 15 minutes or so, when Manchester United's players seemed keen to show off all of the dazzling new passing combinations that they'd been practising with Mata in training. The ball rattled between them at thrilling speed, with an assurance rarely seen in front of the home crowd in recent months, and Sir Alex Ferguson could even be seen grinning in the stands. At one point, Antonio Valencia even executed a perfect backheel, almost as if he had been preparing a party piece for the Spaniard's arrival. Van Persie, meanwhile, must have found it difficult to suppress a smile when he saw Mata's name on the team sheet. The Spaniard, according to Opta statistics, has provided more assists per game in Premier League history than any player apart from Cesc Fabregas and the greatest Old Trafford catalyst of recent times, Eric Cantona.
Three Things: Manchester United vs. Cardiff JANUARY 28, 2014 5:56:38 PM PST By Richard Jolly MANCHESTER -- Three thoughts from Man United's 2-0 win over Cardiff. 1. United's fate rests with their top talents Seven days earlier, Manchester United kicked off against Sunderland with Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in attack and no recognised striker in reserve. Fast-forward a week, and manager David Moyes was able to select Juan Mata to play off Robin Van Persie and put Wayne Rooney on the bench. It is a colossal difference. And while the goal of the game came from Ashley Young, who beat David Marshall from 20 yards, and Antonio Valencia twice struck the woodwork, this was a match to reinforce the importance of United's top talents. Sir Alex Ferguson excelled in conjuring performances from the lesser lights, but usually when one of the resident superstars led the way. Van Persie had not played in the past 11 games and had not scored since the first week of November. Thus, his early header, which eased the ...
Manchester United's record signing Juan Mata enjoyed a winning debut on Tuesday as his new club recorded a 2-0 victory at home to Cardiff City in the Premier League. Leaders Arsenal, meanwhile, spurned an opportunity to move four points clear after drawing 2-2 at Southampton, but Liverpool tightened their grip on fourth place with a superb 4-0 defeat of derby rivals Everton. Mata started at Old Trafford, three days after making a £37.1 million move from Chelsea, as former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to his old stomping ground as Cardiff manager. Last season's top scorer Robin Van Persie was also included in United's starting line-up, after seven weeks out with a thigh strain, and the Dutch striker broke the deadlock in the sixth minute. Mata found Ashley Young with a raking pass and when his cross was headed against the bar by Antonio Valencia, Van Persie headed in at the second attempt after his initial header was parried by goalkeeper David Marshall. Young added a fine second in the 59 ...
Manchester United will announce Juan Mata’s Old Trafford squad number when the £37.1 million club record transfer is registered with the Premier League on Monday – raising the prospect of the Spaniard becoming the latest player to wear the iconic No 7 shirt. With Wayne Rooney occupying the No 10 shirt worn by Mata at Chelsea , the 25-year-old is likely to be given the option of seven or nine – both currently vacant. With George Best wearing a variety of numbers depending on his position each match, and more often 11 than seven, Bryan Robson is regarded as United’s first celebrated No 7, the midfielder having worn the shirt for more than a decade until Eric Cantona in November 1992. When Cantona retired in 1997, David Beckham was handed the No 7 shirt by Sir Alex Ferguson, who then bestowed the shirt on his replacement, a teenaged Cristiano Ronaldo , in 2003. Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia have since worn the shirt. Valencia relinquished it last summer to return to No 25 after a difficult 12 mo ...
Mata might not be able to rescue United’s current season but the quality he will add to their squad is immense and the underperforming players like Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Tom Cleverly will know that if they do not step up, the signings will keep coming in and they will be shown the exit door. United have nothing to lose from this deal and I’m sure Mata will justify his price tag from the first minute as a United player. Chelsea might not feel the wrath of this deal either in this season but might feel the long term affects of this mega deal going in to the next season. The news is going around that Juan Mata will be getting the number 7 jersey. If he has any impact like the previous number 7s (George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo) then Manchester United will be back as title contenders pretty soon!
No. 7 shirt of Manchester United carries one of the richest traditions a single number could carry. From big names to even bigger talents, the No.7 shirt has become very dear to the United fans. While there is no official criteria for wearing the shirt, it is pretty obvious what is needed to do the number justice, the wearer must have buckets of talent and a captivating personality, both on and off the field. This shirt has been worn by legends among them; *Eric Cantona *Bryan Robson *George Best *David Beckham *Cristiano Ronaldo *Michael Owen *ANTONIO VALENCIA Ever since the current Ballon D’Or winner,CR7 left the club for the Bernabeu,United have been looking for a worthy heir to the shirt number 7 throne, to little avail. Michael Owen was somewhat comically given the number, and to the shock of many United Fans,he did not dissapoint. Owen was followed by Antonio Valencia, who decided to relinquish the number, feeling it brought too much pressure on his shoulders. With the Number 7 once again available ...

Juan Mata: A ROLE MODEL AT UNITED!!! Record buy, statement signing, tactical conundrum: Juan Mata is many things. The first footballer to cross the great divide between Chelsea and Manchester United since Juan Sebastian Veron made the opposite journey in 2003 is, like the Argentine was more than a decade ago, a flair player whose presence can prompt managers to reshape a side. Jose Mourinho opted to bench Mata instead. Having spent 37 million pounds on him, David Moyes is unlikely to follow suit, but he is confronted with a dilemma -- how does he fit the Spaniard, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie into the same side? It is an altogether more pleasant problem than wondering whether to play Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia or both. As long as either of United’s star strikers is absent, the answer is easy: behind the other in a 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 formation. When both are back, it becomes more complicated. Mata does not fit naturally into a 4-4-2 system. Instead, other tactics are required. His past shows his ...
Peter Staunton, a Goal.com International writer had this to say about Manchester United ouster from the League Cup by Sunderland- ''Javier Hernandez pulled the classic gutless move. He took out his shinpads and rolled down his socks. The only other thing he could have done was take off his boots altogether. Those visual indicators tell the manager: "I don't fancy it." David Moyes legislated for Hernandez's shirk-job in the aftermath of Manchester United's penalty shootout defeat to Sunderland in the League Cup by saying the Mexican was injured. Didn't Cesc Fabregas once take, and score, a penalty for Arsenal with a broken leg? Whatever ailment with which Hernandez was hit while celebrating his extra-time goal could have been surmounted. Nonetheless, United's other senior players when the time came were in dereliction of duty. Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia and Jonny Evans - over 150 international caps between them - not to mention the near 700 United appearances they've made, were content to stand in the ...
What is Wrong with Manchester United and How Do We Fix It? I took some time off to analyse the problem with solutions: 1. It has little to do with the coach. David Moyes really doesn't have the pedigree to run a top team like Man Utd but the club has really been on a decline since 2009. Moyes just met a 'catastrophe' waiting to happen. 2. Why the decline? When Man Utd sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid for £80m, they didnt replace him with a world class talent. Instead we bought an average player in Antonio Valencia from Wigan for £ 17m. That was a problem. That money should have been invested in 2-3 top players. 3. One of our problems have been the middle. We are still struggling with a player with top quality like Paul Scholes. But the problem is when Sir Alex Ferguson should have promoted Paul Pogba to fill Scholes' shoes, he rather re-called the aged player to the team. Now we see what talent Pogba is. 4. SAF should have 2-3 seasons ago bought some top players before he left. We had the chance to sign Dani ...
Manchester United 2 Swansea City 0 Saturday 11 January 2014 Old Trafford | Attendance: 75,035 Manchester United returned to winning ways and avenged last weekend’s FA Cup third round defeat to Swansea City after goals from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck sealed an important 2-0 victory. The Reds started brightly and could have taken an early lead through Nemanja Vidic, who volleyed over from six yards, before the impressive Adnan Januzaj struck the crossbar with a delicious free-kick moments later. With just over half an hour on the clock, a lovely passing move on the edge of Swansea's area led to Darren Fletcher slicing high and wide, before Welbeck dragged another effort wide of goal, missing the first half’s best chance following some neat approach play from Valencia and Rafael. David Moyes didn’t make any changes at the break, though his side returned for the second half with renewed urgency and immediately scored via Valencia, who slotted in at the far post after Shinji Kagawa’s header was ...

Get Involved Those eagle-eyed among you might have noticed BBC Sport's Robbie Savage pick out 12 players he would like to see leave underperforming league champions Manchester United. He doesn't hold back. Do you think Rio Ferdinand, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani should been shown the door? What do you think of his selection?
Wayne Routledge scored the opener and made the winner for Wilfried Bony as Swansea upset Manchester United in the FA Cup to earn their first ever win at Old Trafford. Javier Hernandez gave the hosts parity, but they later saw Fabio sent off. Swans winger Routledge stunned the Theatre of Dreams by chipping Anders Lindegaard and giving the visitors an early lead. He was set away between the United centre backs by Alejandro Pozuelo’s reverse pass on 12 minutes for his fourth of the season. The visitors only enjoyed a brief lead, however. David Moyes’s men equalized after a quarter of an hour when Hernandez ended his goal drought by converting a whipped in Alex Buttner cross from close range. Antonio Valencia then blazed over from another decent Red Devils move following good work by Danny Welbeck. Goalmouth action abated thereafter until Chico Flores’s clumsy challenge on Hernandez brought the hosts a free kick. Buttner’s low effort went straight at Gerhard Tremmel 12 minutes before half time. How many of us made a New Year’s resolution? Some of the more popular resolutions I know of are to join a gym, to drink less alcohol, to lose a bit of weight, to see more of the world, to make more effort with family and to get a pay rise at work! Come February 1st, all will have been forgotten. when it comes to David Moyes, I am sure we could all offer a host of resolutions for the Scot to make when it comes to managing the club we all love; so today I am offering up what I believe should be definite Moysie’s resolutions. Remember Fabio? Use him. It is clear that Alex Buttner isn’t going to carve out a career at Manchester United; and with Patrice Evra in his twilight years and still playing in every single match surely it is time for Fabio to be given a chance? Is Moyes aware that at one stage, Fabio was a regular starter and played in a Champions League final? Furthermore, the young Brazilian can play at both left and right back – so instead of using Antonio Valencia as a makeshift right back ...
Manchester United v Tottenham 6 things we learned 1.Chris Smalling Is a limited right-back Chris Smalling is going to be a good centre-half, but as a right-back he's limited. He's not comfortable enough on the ball to join in when United go forward, especially compared to Rafael who is happy to overlap Antonio Valencia down the right. Moyes might have picked Smalling over Rafael's brother Fabio to add some height against Tottenham's front two of Emmanuel Adebayor andRoberto Soldado , but it was Adebayor who got across Smalling to put Spurs in front in the first half. 2.United Are Too Reliant on Wayne Rooney When Wayne Rooney plays well, United play well, and normally win. But when he's having a poor game like he did against Tottenham, they struggle to create many chances. He sat out against Norwich with a groin injury and he didn't look fit against Tottenham. Moyes dropped him into midfield in the second half to try and get him on the ball but even that didn't work. Rooney can't be expected to be at his b ...
New Year hangover. Manchester United started the game very positively and put Tottenham Hotspur under real pressure in the first 15 minutes but it was Spurs who scored first with a well placed header from Emmanuel Adebayor. United weren’t clinical enough going forward and were punished on the counter attack as Christian Eriksen headed in a second after a lapse in concentration from Antonio Valencia allowed him to sneak in front of him to finish. After the second goal went in, United came alive with an instant response from Danny Welbeck and finally started to threaten Spurs. It was all systems go then but a catalogue of decisions going against us, and a number of saves from Hugo Lloris, kept us out and gave Spurs their second win at Old Trafford in a row. The loss puts an end to United’s winning streak and Spurs have now become the latest team to win at Old Trafford. What has happened to the fear factor? Where was the momentum? United should have been buzzing going into this game against Tottenham. Tw ...
Preview: United v Spurs (manutd.com) Form guide: Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford in the midst of an impressive run of form, having recorded six consecutive victories in all competitions. The Reds hope to improve that sequence against Spurs, who have been going through a time of transition following the sacking of manager Andre Villas-Boas on 16 December and subsequent appointment of Tim Sherwood. Since officially taking over, the former midfielder has guided the club to a draw with West Brom and a victory over Stoke. Prior to those results, Sherwood was caretaker boss for their last away match, an encouraging 3-2 win at Southampton. Ins and outs: Wayne Rooney will undergo a late fitness test after missing Saturday’s trip to Hull City with a groin strain, but Antonio Valencia is available after serving his one-match suspension. Rafael (groin), Phil Jones (knee), Nani (hamstring) and Robin Van Persie(groin) are all likely to be absent though injury. For Tottenham, midfielder Pa ...

Norwich v Manchester United (Kick-Off 3:00 p.m. UK / 4:00 p.m. Nigeria) Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson will face a fitness test on the back injury that has kept him out for two matches. Defender Michael Turner is suspended after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season on Boxing Day. Manchester United right-back Rafael is doubtful after coming off with a groin injury against Hull. Antonio Valencia is suspended after picking up a red card in that game, while Phil Jones is out for a fortnight with a knee injury. MATCH PREVIEW Norwich may sit with three teams between them and the bottom three but Chris Hughton will not be fooled by that; one bad day and they could be in the relegation zone themselves. The Boxing Day defeat at home to Fulham was damaging enough in itself without being seriously compounded by away wins for Sunderland and Crystal Palace which drew Norwich further back into the discomfort zone. The likeable Hughton now has something of a selection dilemma; does he take the view that New Ye ...
James Chester's own Goal.completed Manchester United's comeback from two goals down to win at Hull. Chester gave the hosts the lead with a volley, before David Meyler's shot deflected in after 12 minutes. But United's Chris Smalling headed in, before Wayne Rooney thumped United level from more than 20 yards, his 150th Premier League goal for the club. Rooney's 150 After Thierry Henry at Arsenal, Rooney is only the second player to reach 150 goals for a single club in the Premier League. Ex-Old Trafford man Chester headed into his own net in the second half, before United's Antonio Valencia was sent off. In coming from behind, it is the fifth consecutive win for David Moyes' team - the first time that has happened since he took charge. Hull had conceded just three goals in their previous eight matches at KC Stadium but folded under pressure from United. Steve Bruce has now gone 19 league games without a win as manager against his old club. It looked very different when his side were two goals up inside 13 ...
50 - Antonio Valencia's red card at Hull is Manchester United's 50th in Premier League history. Off.
TEAM NEWS & LATE Fitness Check oleh abam Nik Argiropoulos : Man Utd v West Ham : What we wanted was a clear "Wayne Rooney is fit" or "Wayne Rooney is injured" from Manchester United manager David Moyes. What we got was "he has a chance, we'll see tomorrow". Hugely unhelpful, and he has to be considered a massive risk. Danny Welbeck should play regardless of the final decision, with Javier Hernandez only likely to feature if Rooney sits it out. Nani is out injured so Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj should remain on the wings, while Marouane Fellaini and Nemanja Vidic are both doubts so Phil Jones will start in either midfield or defence. Michael Carrick and Robin Van Persie are long term absentees. West Ham's captain Kevin Nolan is still suspended, so Ravel Morrison is expected to start and Modibo Maiga will battle it out with Carlton Cole for a start upfront, but you shouldn't be considering any Hammers players for such a difficult match. Liverpool v Cardiff City : Brendon Rodgers is still without the ...

Three and easy for Utd Danny Welbeck scored twice as Manchester United eased to a comfortable 3-0 win at Aston Villa. In what was a welcome return to form for United, they claimed their first Premier League win since they beat Arsenal over a month ago. After a bright start from Villa, it was United who went ahead on 15 minutes as Welbeck finished from close range after Adnan Januzaj's header had cannoned back off the post. Just minutes later and Welbeck was on hand to convert his second as he slid home to meet Antonio Valencia's cross. The scoring was completed not long into the second half, and it was another well-worked team goal as Tom Cleverley exchanged passes with Wayne Rooney before firing past Brad Guzan. United were also boosted by the return of Scottish midfielder Darren Fletcher, who made his first league appearance in nearly 12 months when he came on in the second half. David Moyes's side had been staring at a hat-trick of defeats for only the third time in the entire Premier League era. Whils ...

Hosts Villa actually looked more threatening in the early stages but were two goals down before the 20-minute mark as Danny Welbeck scored twice in three minutes. First, the England striker tucked into an empty net after Adnan Januzaj had headed against the post, before sliding in for his second from Antonio Valencia's cross. United sealed the win seven minutes into the second half when Wayne Rooney played in Tom Cleverley for his first goal of the season. The players Moyes needs to buy and sell to improve Manchester United Three to go Anderson, 25, cost £27m, contracted until summer 2015 Billed as better than Wayne Rooney in his teenage years in Sir Alex Ferguson's recent book, the Brazilian has become the club's perennial disappointment. Signed in 2007 for what now reads as a barely credible £27m, the midfielder has managed 70 league starts in six years, with how he remains at United a puzzle for fans. The quips aimed at Anderson about his weight by his own-teammates point to a player who has seriously stagnated. In the final two years of his deal a January sale would make sense though the club might struggle to receive £10m for him. Antonio Valencia, cost £16m, contracted until summer 2015 Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani are a gang-of-three Manchester United widemen whose stock has fallen. But while Young and Nani can still have a fizz and match-winning quality about their play, the Ecuadorian is too pedestrian too often. Allowing him to leave might ...
Manchester United version 2013-14: Simply not good enough By AlexThanopoulos, Picture this: Tottenham and manager Andre Villas-Boas, coming off a 6-0 battering at the hands of Man City, have Man United next up at home. AVB and Co., still licking their wounds, find a Manchester United team sheet that consists of Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Antonio Valencia partnering Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa in attack. Throw in a defence that leaks more than Julian Assange, and all of a sudden you have a team that can believe that can be up against the reigning Premier League Champions and think “this doesn’t look a daunting task.” Quite frankly it isn’t, and it wasn’t. They drew 2-2. We all know that David Moyes’ Manchester United are struggling. Loses to the hands of Manchester City and Liverpool are not rare in United’s dominant history. Losses to West Brom and Everton at home, as well as conceding late equalisers to Southampton and Cardiff, are not. This season United simply doesn’t have that ...

PARIS: Manchester United and Real Madrid, with a dozen European titles between them, powered into the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday as in Russia holders Bayern Munich produced a record-breaking show in the snow. Joining United and Real in the knockout stages of Europe's premier club competition were French champions Paris Saint-Germain with five sides - Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City - already qualified. That leaves the identity of the final eight last 16 contenders to be determined at the final throw of the first round dice in mid-December. United produced the performance of David Moyes' short reign as manager since he succeeded Alex Ferguson, who beamed down from Leverkusen's stand as goals from Antonio Valencia, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Nani and an own-goal from Emir Spahic left the Bundesliga side bemused. Advertisement "This is probably the best performance of the season. For us to come away from home and score five goals is really special," said Mo ...

United 1 Arsenal 0 Robin Van Persie's superb header accounted for Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal and catapulted Manchester United firmly into the title race on a tense afternoon at Old Trafford. In a game of few chances, the Dutchman's first-half header from a Wayne Rooney corner made the tangible difference between champions and pace-setters, but the foundations for success were built on a magnificently dogged defensive display from David Moyes' men. The United manager opted to field Phil Jones in a withdrawn central midfield role alongside Michael Carrick, safeguarding against the Gunners' advanced midfield threat, and the move almost totally stifled the visitors' creativity in central areas. A forward four of Van Persie, Rooney, Antonio Valencia and Shinji Kagawa, meanwhile, offered United plenty of attacking menace. A cagey opening to the game yielded plenty of possession for United, but the clear mutual respect shared by the sides meant a dearth of chances. When United forged ahead, it was w ...
United stroll, City run riot (FIFA.com) Saturday 2 November 2013 Manchester United overcame Fulham and Manchester City smashed seven goals past Norwich City in the English Premier League on Saturday. A day that also witnessed a freak goal by Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was set to conclude with a table-topping affair between leaders Arsenal and closest rivals Liverpool. Despite a disappointing start to the season, United have now gone six games without defeat in all competitions following a 3-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. David Moyes's side went 3-0 up inside 22 minutes, with Antonio Valencia tapping in a ninth-minute opener from Wayne Rooney's square pass. Robin Van Persie's emphatic finish from Adnan Januzaj's measured through ball made it 2-0 and the Dutchman then centred for Rooney to add a third. Alex Kacaniklic pulled a goal back for Fulham in the 65th minute with a shot that deflected in off Rooney, but the champions saw out a victory that elevated them to within two points of the top ...
Which Jersey should youngster Adnan Januzaj take in future? No. 7,9 or 11. Jersey No.7 and 9 are free for Manchester United after the depature of Cristiano Ronaldo and Dmitar Berbatov. WISE WORDS MANCHESTER -- Three thoughts from Man United's 1-0 win versus Real Sociedad at Old Trafford. Come on, David Moyes. Play like Fergie's boys. "I always took risks. My plan was: Don't panic until the last 15 minutes, keep patient until the last quarter of an hour, then go gung *** " Sir Alex Ferguson's philosophy, as described in his newly published autobiography, is in danger of already becoming a memory to Manchester United. New manager David Moyes' caution is costing him both points and the patience of supporters. The Glaswegian gambler has been swapped for a safety-first Scot. At present, the Moyes masterplan looks to be to hang on grimly. Of course, Moyes is not helped by an under-performing group of players. Wayne Rooney's renaissance rarely lasts a full 90 minutes, while a change of management has not brought Antonio Valencia from his slump. Rooney, without Robin Van Persie to get in his way, had centre stage, yet looked too eager to prove himself. The wrong pass was chosen rather too often ...
Real Sociedad coach Jagoba Arrasate conceded that his side merited no more than their 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Manchester United. Heading to Old Trafford on the back of consecutive Group A defeats, Sociedad suffered the worst possible start when Wayne Rooney's shot came back off the post and Inigo Martinez put through his own net after just two minutes. The visitors eventually rallied and Antoine Griezmann and Alberto de la Bella both struck the crossbar as United suffered some nervy moments, but had any of the late chances that fell to Rooney, Antonio Valencia, Shinji Kagawa and Ashley Young been converted it would have leant a more accurate slant to the scoreline.

Leighton Baines to Manchester United: David Moyes will offer £15m and Antonio Valencia
Free from the weight of expectation that Manchester United's No 7 shirt brings, Antonio Valencia produced a cracking goal this week which has prompted his manager David Moyes to call for several more. The Ecuador winger took over the shirt number worn by the likes of United greats George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham after he was named the club's player of the year in 2011-12. However, after netting just once last season and putting in some indifferent performances, he asked to have his old number 25 shirt back and in Tuesday's 4-2 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen he looked more like his old self. "He has done very well," Moyes told a news conference on Friday ahead of this weekend's derby at Manchester City. "They keep telling me that he needed to change his number so we got that changed for him. Sometimes, psychologically, it can make a difference to a player. "Overall, I've been really pleased with him. I actually said to him today: 'You should be getti ...

Manchester United 4 Bayer Leverkusen 2: match report David Moyes wins his first Champions League game thanks to goals Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Antonio Valencia. More news on
Wayne Rooney joined Manchester United's exclusive 200 club, scoring twice as the Red Devils opened their Champions League campaign with an encouraging 4-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen. Rooney put United ahead midway through the first half with a first-time effort from Patrice Evra's cross, although Bayer Leverkusen argued with some justification that an offside Antonio Valencia had impeded keeper Bernd Leno. Still, it did not look like being a particularly memorable night for the England forward when an inexplicable failure to either tap into an empty net or provide an opportunity for Robin Van Persie to do so after he had skipped round Leno was followed within a minute by Simon Rolfes' equaliser. However, Van Persie soon restored United's advantage before Rooney entered the history books as he seized on the loose ball after Emir Spahic had got his head to David De Gea's long punt downfield and finished with ease. It was a landmark effort that meant Rooney emulated Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Jack Rowl ...
Rooney gives Moyes emphatic win against Leverkusen David Moyes is doing a good job of letting his players do the talking. Much of the talk in the buildup to this match centred on the manager's lack of experience at this level. If the job of a football manager is to get the best from his players, Moyes is earning his money, as evidenced by Manchester United's 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. Just a month ago, Wayne Rooney was determined to leave Manchester United. His agent was jumping up and down, and Chelsea were circling. That unfortunate period seems like a million years ago when Rooney is scoring. He plundered two goals Tuesday night to make it three in a week. Last season Bayer Leverkusen finished just a point behind Borussia Dortmund, European finalists and conquerors of Real Madrid. Given that pedigree, they might have been expected to attack a little more than they did Tuesday. Instead, their game plan was to play as deep as possible and defend in numbers. It fell apart with Rooney's open ...
Wayne Rooney at the double for 200th Manchester United goal Wayne Rooney joined the Manchester United elite last night after scoring his 200th goal for the club. The striker became only the fourth United player to reach a double century with a goal in each half. He opened the scoring in controversial style with offside Antonio Valencia clearly obstructing the keeper.
Ronald night of goals Ronaldo shines in goals bonanza night Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick for Real Madrid illuminated an opening night goals bonanza as the leading contenders began the Champions League group stage with a bang on Tuesday. Thirty goals rained in around Europe with Real trouncing Galatasaray 6-1 in Istanbul, holders Bayern Munich winning 3-0 at home to CSKA Moscow and Manchester United putting four past Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford. Paris St Germain fired a warning that they will be a real threat with a 4-1 victory away to Olympiakos Piraeus while Manchester City won 3-0 at Czech outsiders Viktoria Plzen. Ronaldo's reign as the world's most expensive footballer ended this month when Real paid Tottenham Hotspur €100 million for Gareth Bale but he underlined his role as chief conductor of Los Blancos with a dazzling display. Bale, who is still building up his match fitness after missing most of pre-season, had the honour of becoming the world's most costly substitute until he joined the ...
Champions League - Moyes backs Rooney to achieve more Wayne Rooney scored twice against Bayer Leverkusen to reach 200 Manchester United goals as he enjoys a new lease of life under David Moyes who thinks he can become one of the club's greatest predators. The striker's commitment to Old Trafford had been questioned and he was left out of key games last season under Alex Ferguson, who also took to playing him in more of a midfield role as Robin Van Persie took the goalscoring glory. Rooney is fourth on United's all-time leading scorers' list, behind Bobby Charlton (249), Denis Law (237) and Jack Rowley (211) and his manager can see him going further. "I remember coming in and saying you've got a real chance to be one of the all-time leading goalscorers at this club and I tell you what if he keeps playing like he did tonight he will get there," Moyes said. Along with the rousing reception Rooney has been getting from the Old Trafford crowd, despite a turbulent few months, Moyes' faith in him seems to have l ...
Wayne Rooney has long been rumoured to be leaving Manchester United, and reports today suggest he may be involved in a swap deal with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. According to the Daily Star, United and Real are considering a £90-million swap deal for Rooney and Ronaldo. The evidence is thin, with the newspaper citing new Real boss Carlo Ancelotti’s long-time admiration of Rooney, and the fact that the Manchester United merchandise store is no longer printing Antonio Valencia shirts with the number 7 on them – Ronaldo’s trademark number. New United boss David Moyes is set to hold talks with Rooney this week in the hope of pursuading him to stay. The 27-year- old striker was recently linked to Arsenal, although Chelsea are understood to be his preference should he leave the Premier League champions. United are understood to be tabling an amount of £30-million for Rooney, which they would then put towards a £60-million bid for Ronaldo.

Van Persie: I am home at Manchester United "It's gone as well as I've expected it to go. I go into work every day whistling, as from the first day they've made me feel welcome. MANCHESTER UNITED'S Wayne Rooney PUTS FULHAM'S LIGHTS OUT. The floodlights were not the only thing to flicker a little at Craven Cottage as Manchester United, presented with the chance to open up an intimidating 10-point lead at the top of the Premier League, finally took it thanks to a moment of expert incision from Wayne Rooney. In a match that was pitched into darkness for 10 minutes just before half-time by the failure of the stadium's low rise lighting rig, Rooney's 79th-minute goal proved decisive in an entertaining victory against a Fulham team who defended well and broke with purpose. Craven Cottage has always been a friendly kind of place, not least for United, who won 5-0 here last season, and who started this time an attacking 4-4-2, with Nani and Antonio Valencia providing width and Rooney playing close to Robin Van Persie in attack. There was a sense of slightly skittish urgency all round this lovely, rickety old unreconstructed ground as United kicked off on a chilly south-west London evenin ...

2012 was a year of great emotion for everyone associated with Manchester United - but how much can you recall of the last 12 months? 1: Who scored United’s first goal of the 2012 calendar year? 2: In January, which Red came out of retirement before facing Man City in the FA Cup third round? 3: A goalkeeper made his Premier League debut during a 2-0 win over Stoke City... who was he? 4: Can you name the substitute who headed a late equaliser during February’s 3-3 draw at Chelsea? 5: Two players are missing from the XI which started a 2-1 home win over Liverpool... who are they? De Gea; Rafael, Ferdinand, *, Evra; Valencia, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs; *, Rooney. 6: Who supplied the cross for Ryan Giggs’ late winner against Norwich at Carrow Road? 7: And which landmark occasion did the Welshman celebrate that day? 8: In two matches against Athletic Bilbao, how many goals did Wayne Rooney score? 9: Antonio Valencia netted the 2011/12 goal of the season at Blackburn, but what was the final score? 10: Who sc ...
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted that he is worried about the fitness of Vurnon Anita . The Dutch midfielder was stretchered off with an ankle injury late on in the Magpies' Boxing Day defeat to Manchester United , following a mistimed slide tackle by Antonio Valencia . "I was a bit upset with that tackle," said Pardew. "I have seen it again and I don't think it was malicious but Valencia has mistimed it badly and unfortunately it might cost us a player." "I am not sure what is wrong. It is too early to say. It is a bang on the ankle. We will have to see whether he will make Arsenal, which would be a loss to us." Anita has made 16 Premier League appearances this season since signing from Ajax in August.
There's another great chance for Manchester City to equalise! David Silva finds himself in miles of space on the right, and he bears down on David De Gea's goal, cuts inside a defender, then fires straight at the goalkeeper's head. The ball deflects onto the post and then behind -- that really could have gone anywhere. We're now into Edin Dzeko time, and the big Bosnian's being readied as City lay siege to Manchester United's goal. With only ten minutes or so left in this match, the visitors are still 2-1 up and threatening intermittently, but it's the hosts who look more likely. Although not by doing that -- Samir Nasri runs straight into Patrice Evra and falls over rather than crossing. Presumably he was looking for a penalty, but... yeah. That's better from Nasri, though -- he fires in a delivery that Tevez fires just over. The next action is Yaya Toure off, Edin Dzeko on, while Phil Jones comes on for Antonio Valencia.
Manchester United vs Sunderland Missing Players Manchester United Anderson Shinji Kagawa Doubtful Nani Doubtful Nemanja Vidic Doubtful Nick Powell Doubtful Wayne Rooney Doubtful Jonny Evans Doubtful Sunderland Lee Cattermole Wes Brown Adam Johnson Doubtful Phillip Bardsley Doubtful Danny Rose Doubtful Team News Manchester United Nemanja Vidic could well play a part after Sir Alex Ferguson stated that the City game had come too soon for him but this match might be a good time for him to make his long-awaited return. Wayne Rooney has had a virus this week but is hopeful of being fit for the game. Jonny Evans is a minor doubt after being forced off against City with a hamstring injury not long into the 2nd half last time out. Chris Smalling will be on standby to replace him. Paul Scholes could return in central midfield, while it might be too much to ask Antonio Valencia to play two games in a week after only recently returning from injury, so we could see Ferguson revert to the narrow midfield diamond he ha ...

Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia is set to sit out Wednesday's match against West Ham with a hip injury. The United midfielder missed out on Saturday's 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers, and Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the complaint will keep him out this week. But the Ecuadorian should return next week. "He had a hip injury," Ferguson told MUTV. "Just towards his back. He's had a bit of pain there for the last couple of weeks but he's been playing with it. That's the type of guy he is. He never mentioned it and plays on.
Antonio Valencia an unsung Manchester United hero hes plays like David Beckham a deadly crosser of the ball with a finess touch of it
Should Arsene Wenger invest £7.5 million in the proven Newcastle United striker in order to get the goals currently lacking at The Emirates? After yet another impotent display from Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend there is growing apprehension that once again this season could end trophy-less for Arsene Wenger’s men. The great feats Wenger has achieved at the club and the obvious admiration he has for all his players and fans leaves talk of him being replaced by Harry Redknapp or Pep Guardiola redundant. Like Sir Alex at Manchester United it would appear the only time Wenger will leave his current station is if he opts to walk the plank voluntarily. January however must be a month of activity for The Gunners if they are to win any silverware this season. First of all Andre Santos must go. Antonio Valencia made him look like a pub player at Old Trafford, and that is being harsh on pub players. Then there are the abject attacking options on offer. Olivier Giroud seems talented enough but he is ...
Martin Skrtel was crowned Player of the Year for 2012 at the Northwest Football Awards on Monday night, while Martin Kelly received the Rising Star accolade. Skrtel saw off competition from Antonio Valencia of Manchester United and Vincent Kompany of Manchester City to clinch the Premier League award. It comes after he was voted Liverpool's best player in 2011-12 by fans on this website.
Congrats skrtel. Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has been named Premier League player of the year at tonight's North West Sports Awards. The 27-year-old was recognised ahead of Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany and Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia. Skrtel recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Reds by inking a new long-term contract. He joined the club from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.

4. How to ruin the the most anticipated EPL match Match: Liverpool vs Manchester United Referee: Mark Halsey Here Halsey got practically every major call wrong. Daniel Agger was hauled down in the box but nothing was given. Jonjo Shelvey chopped down Rafael. Again, no card was given. If these incidents had been punished, the subsequent ones may not have occurred. Shelvey and Jonny Evans both leap into a full-blooded tackle and Shelvey got the ball. His follow-through caught Evans, who then rolled around on the ground. Evans, for his part had jumped in two-footed. Six of one, half a dozen of the other? No, Halsey shows Shelvey red card but Evans gets away scot-free. Another game-spoiling decision. And led to Shelvery's rant against Fergie. Halsey got the Manchester United penalty decision right. Antonio Valencia made the most of limited contact but contact there was. However, Luis Suarez was clearly tripped in the penalty area by Jonny Evans, and nothing was given. Robin Van Persie joined the fun and was l ...
Debate: Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia is yards ahead of diving whingers Nani and Ashley Young
Chelsea were not particularly hard done by "In recent times, a lot of hot air has been emitted regarding Manchester United's supposed preferential treatment from referees. Some lunatics genuinely believe there is an official conspiracy involving Sir Alex Ferguson, the FA, the CIA and Nasa. Their attitude will not have been changed by events at Stamford Bridge, yet the fuss over Sunday's game is misplaced, a convenient narrative that doesn't stand up to the most basic scrutiny. Fernando Torres should have been sent off long before his dubious second yellow card. Chelsea were not unlucky to be down to nine men; they were lucky not to be down to eight, because Mikel John Obi should have received a second yellow card for fouling Antonio Valencia. Chelsea were the better team at 2-2, but they were about to go 3-2 down when Branislav Ivanovic committed the foul for which he was correctly sent off. And while Javier Hernández's winner was offside, United would probably have won the game anyway. Hernández's goal ...
18′ - Good work from Oscar as he wins the ball back in midfield and finds Torres. The striker tries a deft pass to release Mata in the box, but it's far too strong and United have the ball again. 17′ - Hazard pushes forward down the right but his low cross is cleared. Ivanovic then tries a long throw but Sir Alex's men clear once more. Chelsea seeing a lot of the ball but it's all in front of the visitors so far. 16′ - Torres looks to control an Ivanovic throw but he is quickly closed down. The home side looking bereft of ideas at the moment. 14′ - Chelsea are stunned. Two attacks from United, two goals. Can they come back from this? 12′ - Assist - Antonio Valencia (Manchester United) 12′ - Goal - Robin Van Persie (Manchester United) GOAL!! This one is definitely the Dutchman's. The Chelsea defence *** AWOL as Antonio Valencia finds an unmarked Van Persie in the box, and the striker slots home coolly to bag his sixth goal at Stamford Bridge and put the visitors two in front. A long way ...
Goal.com UK shared the following link and had this to say about it: Manchester United have received a triple injury boost with the news that Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Antonio Valencia are all in line to feature against Stoke City on October 20. 'Like' if you think Sir Alex Ferguson's side has missed Smalling the most, or 'share' if you think the Old Trafford club have badly missed Young.

Evans travels for CFR Cluj tie but Scholes, Giggs, Carrick & Valencia miss out Manchester United defender Jonny Evans will travel to Romania for the Champions League match against CFR Cluj but Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are all missing from the Red Devils' squad. Evans had been a fitness worry for Sir Alex Ferguson, having needed to be helped off at the end of the 3-2 defeat against Tottenham on Saturday, but the Scottish manager later claimed that the Northern Irishman was only suffering from a dead leg. The centre-back trained on Monday morning at the club's Carrington complex but both Carrick and Valencia missed the session, with the latter having missed the match against Spurs with an ankle injury. Veteran midfielders Scholes and Giggs, meanwhile, appear to have been rested despite Ferguson's insistence that he would select an experienced side. Youngsters Scott Wootton and Michael Keane both worked out with the first team on Monday, as did new signing Alexander Butt ...

Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers has spoken to referees' chief Mike Riley about the way officials have treated his team this season. Rodgers is unhappy that key decisions have gone against Liverpool and is at a loss to understand why. The Reds boss, having seen striker Luis Suarez denied what he felt were two penalties in their last two matches, was prepared to bide his time even after Jonjo Shelvey's red card and Antonio Valencia's penalty award against Manchester United on Sunday. But having been frustrated again by refereeing calls in Wednesday night's Capital One Cup win at West Brom, he felt he needed to put his point across to the head of Professional Game Match Officials Ltd, and he said: "I rang Mike Riley this morning. I think he was expecting me to call him a bit earlier. It has just become quite obvious, especially after last night's game." He added: "Jordan Henderson had a horrendous challenge on him and the player was not even booked, yet Andre Wisdom made a really good tackle and won the ba ...
Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! I had a great day - watched Rachael golf in a high school meet, met up with some friends to watch the Holland v. Holland Christian volleyball match, and then cake and ice cream at home! And - I got the most fabulous gift - I now own one share of Manchester United stock! YES! I now own a piece of Wayne Rooney and Antonio Valencia! (I am assuming the club telephone number comes with it, as I am planning on calling in my opinion on strategy during games now!) :)

Brendan Rodgers is still awaiting news on Daniel Agger, who had to be stretchered off after an awkward collision with Antonio Valencia during Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United. Rodgers expressed his concern for Agger after his star centre-back looked to be in some pain as he was carried off the pitch at Anfield. He said: "Fabio (Borini)had a badly swollen ankle. Agger’s doesn’t look good, the medics were saying it might be a medial ligament. But we'll to *** that over the next 24 hours and look at it again tomorrow."
Evans should have seen red along with Shelvey, claims Liverpool boss Rodgers Brendan Rodgers believes Manchester United defender Jonny Evans should have been sent off for his part in the challenge that saw Jonjo Shelvey given his marching orders. The Liverpool midfielder was dismissed in the 39th minute after a lunge on the Northern Ireland defender but Rodgers believes Evans was also culpable and should have been punished. Robin Van Persie scored from the penalty spot to secure a 2-1 victory for United after Rafael had cancelled out Steven Gerrard's opening goal. "If Jonjo Shelvey gets sent off than so should Jonny Evans," Rodgers told the BBC. "I am bitterly disappointed the referee only saw one side of that. "I thought the best team lost. What you can't control is decisions by the referee. The players were outstanding." The former Swansea City boss also provided a damning verdict on referee Mark Halsey's decision to award a penalty after Antonio Valencia was judged to have been tripped by defender Glen ...

Valencia is Mr Complete Ashley Young is the latest Manchester United team-mate to express his admiration for Antonio Valencia, declaring his fellow winger "has it all". Young, who hopes to be fit to face Valencia's former club Wigan Athletic on Saturday, was not surprised that the Ecuadorian was voted United’s double Player of the Year in 2011/12. When asked by Inside United what made Valencia so effective, Young said: "Last season he had everything. "He attacks, he defends, he can shoot, he can cross, he can pass... he has it all and that's why he scooped up everything at the end-of-season awards. It's why the players voted for him and it's why the fans voted for him. "He's fantastic to play with. Antonio, like every other player, knows how to look after himself as well – he knows what to eat, what to drink and he works closely with our fitness coaches." Valencia, who will face Wigan for the fifth time as a United player if he features this weekend, also earned plaudits from his manager. "Antonio is ...

... I think, as a United fan, that if there was ever a season where Nani needed to show us why he should be considered as Manchester United's best winger, after Cristiano Ronaldo, then this is the season. His formula to success is simple - BE A TEAM PLAYER, IMPROVE YOUR VISION, CURB THE SELFISHNESS!!! He showed glimpses of this in 2010-11. Antonio Valencia & Nani as our wingers - THAT WORKS!!!

Manchester United have included new signing Shinji Kagawa in their squad for their pre-season tour of South Africa and China. The Red Devils have also included England Under-18 international Nick Powell in the travelling party. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had earlier this month said he would "be taking the strongest team we have available." And the Scot has included the likes of Rio Ferdinand, midfielders Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, and Antonio Valencia, along with striker Javier Hernandez. Dimitar Berbatov is also included, despite indicating at the weekend that he will leave Old Trafford this summer, as is fellow striker Bebe, who spent last season on loan at Besiktas. Ferguson has left out England internationals Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones and Ashley Young, while Ryan Giggs and Tom Cleverley will not travel due to their involvement with Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics. United are scheduled to face AmaZulu and Ajax Cape Town in the next week, before travelling to China to take on Shanghai Shenhua, ...
