Premier League, King Power Stadium - Leicester City 5 (Ulloa 17', pen. 83', Nugent pen. 62', Cambiasso 64', Vardy 79') Manchester United 3 (Van Persie, Di Maria, Ander 57'; Tyler Blackett sent off) Leicester City enjoyed a thrilling 5-3 victory over a woefully brittle Manchester United at the King Power Stadium. United surged into a two-goal lead when Radamel Falcao crossed for Robin Van Persie to head in at the back post, before Angel Di Maria scooped a wonderful shot over Kasper Schmeichel. Leicester pulled one back 14 seconds later, Leonardo Ulloa left unmarked by Rafael to head in at the near post. Wayne Rooney had been dropped back into the number 10 role after Van Persie and Falcao started. Before the match, Louis van Gaal had described Rooney’s performances up front this season as, ‘not spectacular.’ He was little better in this role, playing at half the pace of those around him. In the second half, United extended their lead through Ander Herrera’s flick, but Leicester pulled one back afte ...

Mourinho lived up to his name in his first stint at Stamford Bridge. In 185 games - between 2004 and 2007 – Mourinho's side secured victory in 124 of them. On April 30 2005, Mourinho led Chelsea to their first title in 50-years, as Frank Lampard struck twice to secure the Blues a Carling Cup and Premier League double. Just under one-year later - on April 29 2006 - Mourinho's side were at it again as they demolished Manchester United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to claim back-to-back titles. Mourinho's Chelsea side in 05' and '06' proved a ruthless outfit: they were unbeatable at the Bridge, and knew how to get the job done on rival soil. The likes of John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Co. quickly understood Mourinho's philosophy, and they used it to their advantage as they dominated English football. The title success in 05' lived up to Mourinho's 'Special' nickname: his side cruised to success as they claimed 95 points - 12 more than Arsene Wenger's Arsenal and 18 ...
Manchester United 3-1: Liverpool: United rally claims the prize Following a Steven Gerrard penalty kick, the Red Devils hit three goals in the second half to claim the pre-season tournament By Sacha Pisani Aug 5, 2014 02:56:00 A second-half comeback saw Manchester United beat Liverpool 3-1 to lift the International Champions Cup on Monday. Quick-fire goals from Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata in the second half cancelled out Steven Gerrard's opener as United claimed early bragging rights over their Premier League rivals. Substitute Jesse Lingard completed the scoring with a fine volley from the edge of the area in the 89th minute at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. Liverpool were in control of proceedings after captain Gerrard converted a 14th-minute penalty but the Manchester club hit back in the second half. Rooney - named captain for the fixture - put United on level terms in the 55th minute before Mata completed the turnaround with a goal of his own just two minutes later as Louis van Gaal's team ended their tou ...

Mourinho will continue to entertain and annoy in approximately equal measure 6. At least one previously unknown player who impresses at the World Cup will be bought by an English club for a massive fee, only to be proved rubbish in the Premier League 7. Liverpool will splash the cash on midfielders and strikers, while leaving the one area that needs strengthening untouched 8. Manchester United 3-1 Hull City: Wilson scores twice on dream debut as Vidic bids farewell to Old Trafford The 18-year-old striker, given his first start as well as Tom Lawrence, netted in either half, while Matty Fryatt's fine long-ranger was made irrelevant by Robin Van Persie. It was a dream debut for Manchester United striker James Wilson as the 18-year-old's double secured a 3-1 Premier League victory over Hull City. The youngster, along with Welsh winger Tom Lawrence, was fielded by Ryan Giggs for his maiden first-team game and made it a memorable one half an hour in when he fired home with a left-footed volley. The Red Devils extended their lead through Wilson just after the 60-minute mark when he tapped in on the rebound, though the Tigers got a consolation in fine style with Matty Fryatt's long-range stunner only two minutes later. Old Trafford also had a chance to say goodbye to captain Nemanja Vidic, who came on for one last home game before joining Inter in the summer, while 40-year-old Giggs ...

Manchester United 3-0 Olympiakos (3-2) | Champions League match report It was a night that began with wild stories of Manchester United supporters planning to tear down the "Chosen One" banner and finished with David Moyes saluting the crowd in a new position of strength. His team had finally remembered what is expected of them inside this stadium and, in the process, they reminded everyone at Old Trafford what a special place this can be, under the floodlights, on the big occasions. They were great scenes of jubilation at the end and it feels like nitpicking to point out that the victory songs did not extend to serenading Moyes. In every other respect, this was the finest moment of his difficult, sometimes harrowing, first eight months as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor, and it may just have kept him in a job. Robin Van Persie certainly chose a good moment to rediscover his best form. If United had gone out of this competition it would have been the earliest they had surrendered any chance of silverware fo ...

Steven Gerrard declared that Liverpool are ready to win their first Barclays Premier League title in 24 years after the Merseyside club embarrassed Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford. Gerrard scored two penalties and Luis Suarez added a late third goal as Liverpool rolled United over, prompting home striker Wayne Rooney to admit to one of his worst days in football.
Steven Gerrard scored two penalties as Liverpool beat a 10-man Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Stevie and Suarez silence Old Trafford Liverpool produced another performance for the ages by beating rivals Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, with the talismanic Steven Gerrard converting twice from the spot to inspire his team yet again. The midfielder dispatched two of the most perfect penalties you will ever see - one in either half - to single-handedly ensure that Brendan Rodgers' high-flying side returned to Merseyside with all three points. Luis Suarez added gloss to a phenomenal display when a Daniel Sturridge drive deflected handily into his run into the area, and the Uruguayan made no mistake with an unerring finish past David De Gea to complete the game. When the teamsheets were handed in an hour before kick-off, it was confirmed that Rodgers had made a single alteration to his starting XI from the win at Southampton 15 days ago - Raheem Sterling replaced Philippe Coutinho. A bright start from the visitors brought a chance for Sturridge on two minutes, as the No.15 collected a ne ...

Jose Mourinho celebrated his 100th Premier League win in charge of Chelsea in style on Sunday, as his swaggering side ruthlessly dispatched Manchester United 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho, who reached the milestone after just 142 games, became the fastest manager in Premier League history to reach a ton of wins, his Chelsea side hitting peak form at just the right time. The Blues will now turn their attention to Sunday afternoon’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Stoke City. Chelsea have enjoyed a great amount of success in the FA Cup since the mid-90s and Jose Mourinho holds the competition close to his heart. Following Chelsea's impressive victory over Manchester United, Jose Mourinho will be tempted to rotate his squad. However, the club’s love affair with the FA Cup in recent years ensures he won’t treat the competition as a distraction. The Blues look set to lose Juan Mata, the Chelsea Player of the Year for the past two seasons has struggled to fit into Mourinho's plans and is almost certain ...

REFEREES FOR NEXT WEEK GAMES ANNOUNCED! We’ve just enjoyed another enthralling weekend of Premier League action and once again the spot light was on the decisions of the referees. Luis Suarez hit the headlines again on Saturday evening after ref Jonathan Moss awarded a controversial penalty to Liverpool at Anfield when goalkeeper Brad Guzan was adjudged to have fouled the striker in the box. Aston Villa were incensed the decision had gone against them as the Reds came from 2-0 down to salvage a draw thanks to the dubious penalty. There was also drama at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea won a fiery contest against Manchester United 3-1 that saw Nemanja Vidic sent off for a late tackle on Eden Hazard, while Rafael was extremely fortunate to stay on the field after Phil Dowd only gave him a yellow for a two-footed lunge on Gary Cahill. These are just a few decisions that have been discussed up and down the country this weekend, and with refereeing decisions looked at more closely than ever before, it’s no wond ...

I watched Manchester United 3-1 victory at Craven Cottage and witnessed Wayne Rooney destroy Fulham in 13 minutes with endeavour, commitment and a touch of class.
