Ronaldo sets new CL scoring record 11 December By Justin Palmer London - Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo set a Champions League group phase scoring record on Tuesday as Bayer Leverkusen and Olympiakos Piraeus reached the last 16 and snow forced Galatasaray's match with Juventus to be abandoned. Holders Bayern Munich's record-breaking run of 10 consecutive Champions League wins came to an unceremonious end after Manchester City staged a memorable fightback after conceding two early goals to win 3-2 at the Allianz Arena. However, Bayern still won Group D with City finishing in second place. Prolific Ronaldo took his tally to nine for the campaign in Real's 2-0 win at FC Copenhagen, with the nine-times champions also setting an all-time record in European competitions by netting in 31 successive matches. Ronaldo, in his first game back since sustaining a muscle strain on Nov. 23, scored with a simple close-range finish three minutes after the break, Real's second after Luka Modric's delightful opener. Madrid's midfield is currently being dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, with Angel Di Maria a popular substitute choice. Isco has been an unused subs in Real's last two matches; the 3-2 La Liga win over Rayo Vallecano and, more recently and ominously, the crucial Champions League victory over Juventus. The 21-year-old Spain midfielder came to prominence at Malaga over two seasons when he was coached by Manuel Pellegrini who is now manager at Manchester City and Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer and proved with the capture of Mesut Ozil that he is happy to splash the cash on the right talent. Real paid around £25m for Isco's services in August but that was before the club smashed the world record transfer fee of £86m paid to Tottenham for Gareth Bale who has forced the Spanish playmaker down the pecking order. Kaka is also close to incoming Real coach Carlo Ancelotti and Isco feels the Brazilian would be given a new shot at establishing himself in midfield ahead him.
La Liga outfit Sevilla are reportedly willing to negotiate with Liverpool over the transfer of Ivan Rakitic, it has emerged. The Spanish side had a poor season this year, finishing 9th in La Liga, and are expecting to face the departures of some key players, having already sold winger Jesus Navas to Manchester City for £14.9million. They could also receive a number of offers for top scorer Alvaro Negredo, who is a target for Atletico Madrid. Rakitic is another of Sevilla’s more impressive players, and has found himself on Liverpool’s radar after scoring 8 goals and providing 10 assists this season. Only big names from the top two, such as Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Mesut Ozil, Cesc Fabregas, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, have created more goals for their team-mates in Spain this year. Brendan Rodgers was reportedly ready to open with a £12million bid for the Croatian, who has been compared with Luka Modric, and although Sevilla are willing to sell, they may hold out for closer to £16milli ...

Manchester City scare off Real Madrid with €32m Richards valuation The England international has a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his current contract that is likely to dissuade the Spanish giants from launching a bid to sign him Real Madrid would have to find €32 (£25) million in order to tempt Manchester City into selling Micah Richards, Goal.com has learned. The Premier League champions value the defender so highly because there is a sell-on clause in the deal that took him to City as a 14-year-old, entitling his former club Oldham to 20 per cent of any future fee. City attempted to buy out the clause when the club were under the management of Stuart Pearce six years ago, but Oldham, currently in the third tier of English football, refused, hoping they would receive a larger windfall further down the line. "Real Madrid are not keen on spending €24m on Richards. The club is in austerity mode and they will probably pay up to €40m for Luka Modric and €62m for just two players is not what they ha ...

Real Madrid throwing everything at closing deal for Tottenham's Modric Real Madrid are pouring all energies into signing Tottenham midfield schemer Luka Modric. Marca says talk of Real moving for Manchester City ace David Silva or Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez are wide of the mark, it is Modric who they want. Former Real Madrid star Guti believes David Silva would be a better fit for the Spanish club than Luka Modric. Tottenham midfielder Modric is being heavily linked with a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu but Guti feels that Manchester City ace Silva would make a greater impact. "As a Madridista, I close my eyes, and see him in Madrid," he told AS. "There would be no better signing. In his position, he is the best of the best." "Hopefully, he can come and offer a lot. It would be a great addition to a template that is already too good in itself. " "Modric is very talented. He's proven himself to be very good for Tottenham and Croatia, where there are flashes of quality. But I look up to Silva, who is above him." L
