Sagna: Why I quit Arsenal for Manchester City "I joined to win titles" says Frenchman New Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has revealed his reasons for joining the club from Arsenal this summer. "Players are here to work and to win trophies," Sagna said."I was watching them (City) celebrating last season and I wanted to celebrate at the same time and win trophies, and the best way to do that is to work, to wake up every day and give the maximum effort". The Frenchman joined Kolo Toure, Gael Glichy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Samir Nasri, who all made the switch from the Emirates Stadium to the Etihad Stadium in recent years. Sagna is in line to make his competitive debut for City in Sunday's Community Shield, ironically against his former club. Sagna, though, insists it is "just another game".
Kolo Toure says he always knew his brother Yaya would remain at Manchester City because "it's the right club for him."
On this day in 2013, completed the signing of Kolo Toure from Manchester City.
Ivory Coast World Cup stars Yaya and Kolo Toure were mourning their brother Ibrahim on Friday after the 28-year-old died in England, the country’s football federation announced. Ibrahim, who was also a footballer plying his trade with the Al Safa club in Lebanon, passed away just hours after Ivory Coast had lost 2-1 to Colombia at the World Cup in Brazil. He had reportedly been suffering from cancer and had received chemotherapy at a hospital in Manchester, where Yaya plays for Premier League champions Manchester City. A tough day for the Toure brothers. Just hours after the match Colombia v Cote d’Ivoire (2-1), Kolo and Yaya learned of the death of their younger brother Toure Oyala Ibrahim,” said a statement from the Ivorian Football Federation (IFF). The death of Ibrahim Toure occurred on Thursday June 19 in Manchester. In these painful circumstances, the players of the national team of Cote d’Ivoire as well as the entire Ivorian delegation present in Brazil at the 2014 World Cup are to demonstra ...
Ivory Coast 0-1 Japan John Bennett, BBC World Service reporter in Recife: "Between them, Ivory Coast's front three - Wilfried Bony, Gervinho and Salomon Kalou - scored 50 goals last season. "Behind them, Yaya Toure scored 24 goals for Manchester City. So they should have enough firepower to get back into this game. "Yet again though, they've been let down by their Achilles heel - defending. Sol Bamba and Didier Zokora have never convinced as a centre-back pairing. Kolo Toure will be extremely frustrated to have been left on the bench."
The Woods World Cup Countdown 16th : Ivory Coast I expect Ivory Coast to be the only African nation in the round of 16 before bowing out. The main trouble that Ivory Coast has at the moment is an aging squad with not the same level of quality coming in behind established stars such as Yaya and Kolo Toure, Didier Drogba and Didier Zokora. This will be a swan song for the latter two players I imagine and they will want to go out in style, but with few options outside their starting eleven, I just don't see them making a big impact after the group stage. The Elephants were unlucky in 2010, being drawn in a group with Brazil and Portugal, to bow out at the group stage. This will be their third (consecutive) World Cup finals and in a relatively tame group, alongside Colombia, Greece and Japan, I think that an R16 prediction is a fairly safe bet. Player to watch: Yaya Toure. One of the most dominant midfield players in world football, Toure had a career year with Premier League champions Manchester City. With 2 ...
Bacary Sagna will almost double his wages after agreeing to join Manchester City in a deal worth at least £120,000‑a‑week. City are on the verge of announcing the free transfer after Arsenal failed to persuade him to extend his seven-year stay. The Gunners offered to improve Sagna’s £70,000- a-week contract but their package fell short of the offer from City. Turkish champions Fenerbahce did match City’s bid but the 31‑year-old has decided to become the latest Arsenal player to move from the Emirates to the Etihad since the Manchester club were taken over by billionaire Sheikh Mansour in 2008. Emmanuel Adebayor was the first and he has been followed by Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri.
FOOTBALL 411: French defender, Bacary Sagna sets to become Arsenal's fifth player to switch over to the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City after the 31 years old turned down Arsenal's offer to improve his £70,000,00 per week contract. With the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, and Samir Nasir having joined City from Arsenal, Sagna is poised with a £120,000,00 per week at Man City.

Biggest mistake of Liverpool's season...signing Kolo Toure on a free transfer from Manchester City😂
A tearful Luis Suarez was led away from the scene of the accident with his face hidden inside his white Liverpool shirt, first by captain Steven Gerrard waving away an intrusive television camera, then by unused substitute Kolo Toure. Gerrard had been on his haunches, as had several of Liverpool's players, while others sat in utter misery on the Selhurst Park turf before Manager Brendan Rodgers emerged into the media suite and spoke of his squad being "devastated". Never has going top of the Premier League with one game to play been greeted by such an outpouring of grief, despair and disappointment - but this was a thunderous night in south London that turned all logic on its head. This time the Premier League table did lie, for now at least. Liverpool were top by one point from Manchester City, but the overwhelming belief coming out of their camp was that this was the night their flamboyant attempt to win their first crown in 24 years went west. The body language spoke word-perfect desolation. With 11 mi ...

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he regrets not being able to pin down the signature of Yaya Toure back in 2003. The Ivorian had a trial with the Gunners while his brother, Kolo Toure, was already at the club, but instead decided to join Metalurh Donetsk in Ukraine instead. “It's up at the top. But let's not forget that Yaya Toure had an agreement with us and it's not because we did not want to sign him that he went to Ukraine,” Wenger said: "We had to wait for his passport in Belgium. We have made mistakes [with transfers], but this was not a mistake. “He preferred to go to Metalurh Donetsk because he could go there without a passport." Toure spent two seasons at Metalurh before going on to have spells at Olympiacos, Monaco, and Barcelona before moving to current club Manchester City. The 30-year-old has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Football League Cup and Community Shield while at the Etihad.

SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: The 2-0 defeat to Greek champions Olympiakos has left David Moyes' side on the brink of going out of Europe with one of the worst performances in the club's proud history . The last time United overturned a two-goal aggregate deficit in Europe was 30 years back, when captain Bryan Robson led them to a 3-0 win over Barcelona at Old Trafford in the last eight of the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup. Liverpool defender ,Kolo Toure has called for his side to "stay calm" as they aim to tie up Champions League qualification. Brendan Rodgers's men currently occupy fourth position in the Premier League, six points over nearest challengers Tottenham, on their way to what would be their first progression to Europe's top competition since 2008-09. Kolo joins PL stars in wildlife campaign Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has joined a group of Barclays Premier League stars in uniting for a special video to highlight the plight of elephants and rhinos in Africa and condemn the illegal trade of wildlife. How much did Manchester City pay Arsenal in total for Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure?
are the Premier League liabilities? They are the players who cannot be trusted, the names whose presence on a team-sheet is the cause of anxiety for supporters. Every club has one; the weak link, the liability. Monday night’s showcase match between Manchester City and Chelsea featured one such culpable character. For even before a ball was kicked, the news that Martin Demichelis would line up at the centre of City's midfield had struck fear into their followers. And so it proved that the Argentine was outran and outplayed by his Chelsea adversaries as they emerged deserved 1-0 victors. Just one day earlier we had also watched as Liverpool’s Kolo Toure gifted West Brom their equaliser at the Hawthorns, the Ivorian another who straddles the line between delight and despair. Arsenal – Wojciech Szczesny We cannot dispute his much-improved form, but the Pole nonetheless remains a worry for followers of Arsenal. Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers insists he may have at last found a suitable replacement for Jamie Carragher's footballing brain in "model professional" Kolo Toure. The Ivory Coast international, who spent seven years at Arsenal until 2009, arrived on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Manchester City this summer, and has slotted in well with 11 games in total. Toure's former manager Arsene Wenger rates him one of his most "satisfying signings", but Rodgers is even more impressed with the centre-back's ability to read a game. It is, he claimed, akin to Carragher who retired from football this summer after 17 years manning Liverpool's defence. "[Toure] came in and showed us he's a model professional", Rodgers told a press conference today. "His fitness level is still really good. He's quick, strong and a great reader of the game. He manages the game in a very similar way to what Jamie Carragher did. "So he's come in and been outstanding. He can play in a couple of positions and he's made a great ...

WE CAN. ONLY IMAGINE By Robson Sharuko FOURTEEN years ago, Desmond Maringwa and Kolo Toure battled, on opposite ends of a Champions League showdown, in a match in which Dynamos powered to a 2-1 victory at the National Sports Stadium. In the years that followed, the Ivorian defender has won English Premiership titles at Arsenal and Manchester City, featured in the Champions League final in 2006 and turned himself into a multi-millionaire from huge earnings in a glittering career. In contrast, Maringwa has limped from one injury crisis to another, after his world was dramatically changed by a serious injury in 2000, and although he recovered to play in the Champions League and lift three domestic league titles, Gazza was never the same and, at the end of last year, he retired from the game. Yesterday, Toure began the latest chapter of his adventurous and successful football career when he signed his latest deal, at the age of 32 years and five months, by joining English giants Liverpool, on a two-year deal ...
Brendan Rodgers believes Manchester City's loss will be Liverpool's gain in 2013-14 as Kolo Toure looks to add a final chapter to his glittering career. At 32, Toure is the oldest recruit since Rodgers took over at Anfield last summer - but having watched the Ivorian perform for City last season, the boss is confident he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level. "I saw him play a lot of games last year," Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com. "I saw him play at Aston Villa and in a lot of other games and I thought he was Manchester City's best player." Toure has won three FA Cup's and two league titles since Arsene Wenger brought him into English football 11 years ago - and his CV makes him one of the few credible candidates to fill the hole left by Jamie Carragher. "Losing someone like Jamie Carragher was going to leave a massive hole for us in terms of his experience," added Rodgers. "Kolo's experience is going to be really important for us - but not just that. He's someone with a winning mentalit ...
Kolo Toure will put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Liverpool FC today as the players begin pre-season training. The Reds squad return to Melwood to kick-start their preparations for the new Premier League campaign. Luis Suarez will not report for training this week because of his involvement in the Confederations Cup where Uruguay played in the third-fourth play-off on Sunday night. And Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers will also excuse Conor Coady and John Flanagan from training after they played for England in the under-20s World Cup in Turkey. But the clutch of new signings will be at the club’s training base today to join up with the squad for the first time since joining Liverpool. Toure, one of four fresh faces coming into the Reds set-up, will finalise his move from Manchester City today. The 32-year-old comes to Anfield as a free transfer following his release by the Etihad Stadium side at the end of last season. A Premier League title winner with Arsenal and City, Toure will commit hi ...
Echo - Liverpool FC continue to search for reinforcements at centre-half – but Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho is not on the club’s wanted list. Reds Manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping to bolster his options in the position following the retirement of Jamie Carragher. Liverpool will today formally complete the free transfer of Former Arsenal and Manchester City man Kolo Toure but with doubts persisting over the form and future of Martin Skrtel, the club are keen to add another player to their numbers at the back. Sakho, a France international, says he has been “flattered” by Liverpool’s apparent interest, but the ECHO understands the club are not targeting the 23-year-old. Rodgers is also understood to have cooled interest in Swansea City captain Ashley Williams despite the interest earlier in the summer. Reports continue to link the Reds with a move for the Wales captain, valued at £10m by the Swans, but their focus has moved to other targets. Hopes of landing Schalke defender Kyriakos Pa ...

Liverpool have moved a step closer to offloading Andy Carroll with the striker set for a medical at West Ham. The England international has been out of the country on holiday but Press Association Sport understands he will fly in for his physical assessment with the Hammers tomorrow. Carroll missed the national team's end-of-season friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil with a heel problem, with fears it could sideline him for up to four months. It remains to be seen whether that has much effect on his medical but with a £15million-plus deal agreed several weeks ago Liverpool will be keen for the move to go through as soon as possible so they can continue with Manager Brendan Rodgers' squad strengthening. Having already secured a free transfer for Manchester City defender Kolo Toure and agreed a £7.7million deal for Celta Vigo's Iago Aspas the club have a number of targets they wish to tie down. Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori and Sevilla midfielder Luis Alberto, both 20, are likely to b ...
Robbie Fowler on Kolo Toure... "I've played against him numerous times and he is a fantastic player. I'm sure coming to a new club will spur him on that little bit more and he will want to do well. He will want to play. I think he will try hard in training and a little bit of pride will set in. "You look at his performances over the years for Arsenal and Manchester City - he has been magnificent in the Premier League. Let's hope that he comes to Liverpool and carries on that magnificent form.”
Liverpool have agreed a deal with Spanish side Celta Vigo for striker Iago Aspas, the English club announced on their website. The 25-year-old Aspas was a vital contributor to help his side avoid relegation last season in La Liga, scoring 12 goals in 34 games for Os Celestes. If the paperwork is completed, Aspas will become Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers' second signing of the summer following a deal for defender Kolo Toure who was signed from Manchester City.

The Premier League has made available the 2013 Premier League Free Transfer List, with a number of high profile players not offered new contracts with their clubs. Last season’s runners up Manchester City have released Wayne Bridge, Roque Santa Cruz and Kolo Toure amongst others, with the latter set to join Liverpool next month. Arsenal have let the most players go, with Andrey Arshavin, Denilson and Sebastien Squillaci the biggest names to have left the club. Yossi Benayoun, Florent Malouda and Paolo Ferreira head the list of Chelsea casualties, while goalkeepers Hilario and Ross Turnbull have also been told to find new clubs. Two time Premier League winner William Gallas has been released by Tottenham Hotspur, along with David Bentley, who has fallen way down the pecking order at White Hart Lane in recent seasons. Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Matthew Upson of Stoke City and Sunderland’s Titus Bramble are some of the other notable names on the list.
The Russian attacking midfielder, who joined the Gunners for £15 million in 2009, joins Denilson and Sebastien Squillaci in leaving the Emirates Stadium after failing to make the matchday squad for a league game since January. Gallas exits White Hart Lane, his third London club, alongside winger David Bentley (also a one-time £15m signing) after falling behind the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson in the centre-back pecking order. Benayoun heads a list of decorated but second-choice names on their way out of Chelsea, with Paulo Ferreira, Hilario, Ross Turnbull and Florent Malouda all released. Manchester United have not let go any first-team players, with the exception of the retiring Paul Scholes, though Liverpool-bound Kolo Toure exits Manchester City alongside Wayne Bridge, Roque Santa Cruz (a £17.5m signing in 2009) and youngster Filippo Mancini, son of recently sacked manager Roberto. Elsewhere in the Premier League, notable departures include goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer from Fulham, who ha ...
South African born Ivan Gazidis is the Chief Executive of Arsenal, but is in fact a Manchester City fan, having grown up in Manchester from a young age. It was his time at Manchester Grammar School, where Gazidis adopted the Citizens as his football team. The 48 year old became a board member of Arsenal in 2008 and has overseen considerable financial growth at the club. With City's fortunes improving over the past few years, with a little help from Former Arsenal players, like Kolo Toure, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy, it is convenient that these sales were approved by none other than Gazidis himself. "That punk *** b*! No wonder we keep losing our talented players!!!" Slick the Gooner.
Liverpool are hoping to confirm another signing in the coming days after submitting an offer for Sporting Lisbon's young central defender Tiago Ilori. The Reds have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old in recent weeks and it seems as though the club are determined to try and complete as much of their business as possible in the early weeks of the Transfer Window. Manager Brendan Rodgers has already managed to bring one defender to the club as Kolo Toure will arrive from Manchester City on a free later this month, while a deal is in place to sign Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas. Now Portuguese publication O Jogo reports that Liverpool have made an offer of €4.2m for the Sporting Lisbon defender, which could see another €800,000 arrive through a series of performance related bonuses. The publication claims that the Lions are holding out for a bid in the region of €7m but that they are prepared to negotiate with the club because of the difficult financial situation they have found themselves in. Manchester City look set to embark on a major overhaul of their squad when the summer Transfer Window opens, as owner Sheikh Mansour targets regaining the Premier League title and a vastly improved performance in the Champions League. Much of the speculation has focused on which stars the big-spending Citizens want to sign, with Napoli’s £50 million-rated Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani and Cagliari defender Davide Astori said to top their shopping list. However, UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations and the Premier League’s squad size restrictions mean there are likely to be more exits than arrivals at the Etihad Stadium over the close season. With Mancini now gone, the in coming manager will have to agree to off-load much of his squad. Ex-Arsenal centre-back Kolo Toure, third-choice goalkeeper Richard Wright and forgotten men Wayne Bridge and Roque Santa Cruz will definitely be wearing different football kits next season, but they won’t be the only ones. At least one of City’s big-name stri ...
Brendan Rodgers has stated he wants to do his transfer business early in the summer. With rumoured links to a list of players, it is starting to look pretty clear who his intentions lies. Kolo Toure looks set to become Liverpools first signing on a free from Manchester City, and Kyriakos Papadapoulos could follow him to Anfield in a £12m deal. With a number of players looking to leave this summer, including the likes of Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Oussama Assaidi. Rodgers is trying to raise enough funds to make a challenge for the top 4. Jose Reina could leave also but as time goes on, it is believed that Barcelonas interest is dying down. However if Jose Reina was to leave, they have a small shortlist of keepers ready to take his place including Asmir Begovic. Also whilst Rodgers has stated that he wants to get his transfers done early, it could potentially pave the way for Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen who has set the club a deadline to sign him. With Christian Tello of Barcelona also believe ...

Man City planning massive clearout to make room for big money deals Manchester City are ready for a massive squad overhaul this season. The Daily Star Sunday says City will return to their big spending ways in the summer, though will adhere to UEFA's draconian financial fair play laws. They are planning to raise cash through sales and slash £50m from the wage bill. Mario Balotelli has already gone for almost £20m and the futures of Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez, Samir Nasri, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, Scott Sinclair and Maicon are all in doubt. In addition, Kolo Toure and two players out on loan – Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge – are out of contract. There could be other casualties, too. Southampton v Man City, 17:30 Before their match with Liverpool the reigning champions hadn’t conceded a Premier League goal in four games, and a lot of the supporters at the Etihad for their 2-2 draw with Gerrard and co went away saying they Reds were the best team to visit that year, so it is clear the away team are in decent defensive form. The Saints only have two wins in their last ten games, and if 9/2 first goalscorer with Boylesports Edin Dzeko is firing they could have to settle for a difficult day and no points. Southampton players Luke Shaw, Nathaniel Clyne, Gaston Ramirez and Guly do Prado are all possibly out, while recent signing Vegard Forren awaits his debut. Manchester City will be bolstered by the return of brothers Yaya and Kolo Toure from the Africa Cup of Nations and both Vincent Kompany and Maicon could also be available.
Demba Ba: “I do not like when I compare with Mario Balotelli, before everything … I do not smoke and drink alcool, and I pray 5 times each day in the mosque” Alan Pardew said: ‘You have to respect that some players have a different religion to most of the footballers in this country. We need different facilities for them. It’s important that whatever the religion, we take care of it and understand it.’ Dedicated prayer rooms are not new in English football although they are few and far between, and the Premier League’s first multi-faith prayer room inside a stadium was unveiled only four years ago at Blackburn. That was as much in response to the multicultural make-up of the local population as to the demand from players. Bolton also have a prayer room, as do Manchester City who have four practising Muslims in their first-team squad — Yaya and Kolo Toure, Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri. Other Premier League stars sharing their faith include Ali Al-Habsi of Wigan, Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh, ...

Manchester City can keep on winning despite losing Yaya and Kolo Toure in January, says David Platt!
Arsene Wenger got £80m from Manchester City for Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Kolo Toure, and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Manchester City duo Yaya and Kolo Toure have been named in the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations. The brothers are among six Premier League players selected by manager Sabri Lamouchi for the tournament, which runs from January 19 to February 10. Their Citizens teammate Adbul Razak will also travel to South Africa despite rarely featuring for the English champions at senior level. Newcastle United midfielder Chieck Tiote and forward pair Gervinho and Arouna Kone, of Arsenal and Wigan Athletic respectively, complete the Premier League representation. Former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba is also included in the squad and will captain the tournament favourites.

LINE-UPS! 12:45 Newcastle United v Manchester City John Brewin has previewed today's game. Read the preview here. Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Perch, Tiote, Anita, Cisse, Ba, Gutierrez. Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, Nastasic, Clichy, Garcia, Yaya Toure, Nasri, Silva, Tevez, Aguero. And even though their derby defeat was their first in the Premier League this season, City haven't been firing on all cylinders either. Roberto Mancini looks a troubled man, laying into his players at various stages. With the Champions League gone, it is all about the league and FA Cup for them now. Newcastle are hurting with injuries - Ben Arfa, their main creative spark, and Cabaye, their midfield lynchpin is out for another month. So too, is Steven Taylor, meaning Williamson is the only recognised centre half left to partner Coloccini. So, two teams in pretty poor form meet at St James' Park. City have suffered two successive defeats, while Newcastle have lost five of their past six ...
Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany is out of the match with a hamstring injury. Gareth Barry serves a one-match ban, while Jack Rodwell and James Milner (both hamstring) and Micah Richards (knee) are also missing. Kolo Toure is in from the start while Carlos Tevez replaces Mario Balotelli for the visitors.
This could be a bit of a boost for us today!! Roberto Mancini has given captain Vincent Kompany a "two per cent" chance of being fit for Manchester City's match with Newcastle United on Sunday. The Belgian limped out of the derby defeat to Manchester United after suffering a hamstring strain during the first half. He returned to City training on Friday but is almost certain to miss the trip to St James' Park. Kolo Toure was his replacement against the Red Devils and either he or Joleon Lescott will deputise if Kompany is unavailable as expected.
Mirror Football is reporting that Everton are looking to bring Joleon Lescott back to Goodison Park in the January Transfer Window. The England international of course made his name in the English Premier League with the Toffees, before leaving for a huge fee of £24 million to Manchester City. It is thought that David Moyes might try and lure him back to the club on a loan deal as at the moment, he is not getting much first-team football under Roberto Mancini. When it comes to the big games, Mancini has opted to leave Lescott on the bench and Kolo Toure appears to have moved up in the pecking order as the third choice centre-back. If Moyes did bring Lescott in, the wages could be a stumbling block as he is on around £90,000-per-week, so City would have to continue to pay some of his salary. If they managed to agree terms, then Everton may look to sell John Heitinga and then hope to use his transfer fee to bring more new faces to Merseyside. Reports suggest that Moyes is keen on signing two strikers, Kev ...

Summary Rafael Benitez's reign as Chelsea manager saw the Blues and Manchester City play out a goalless draw, only the second occasion this season on which we've failed to score in the league. On reflection, it was probably a fair result, and while Roberto Mancini's side will feel they should have won it, Benitez will be pleased to have seen his men keep a clean sheet for the first time since the 4-0 win against Nordsjaelland at the beginning of last month. Pablo Zabaleta, David Silva and Sergio Aguero all wasted good chances for the away side in the first half, and after the break Ashley Cole cleared one off the line. Our best opportunity fell to Fernando Torres midway through the second half, but the striker fired over after a deflection had fallen kindly for him, while Joe Hart saved well to deny Cole. Attention now turns towards a crucial London derby on Wednesday against Fulham, when Benitez will be hoping to earn his first win as Chelsea manager. Team news Benitez's first game in charge of the Blues ...

Manchester City Centre-back Kolo Toure says he will fight for his place in the side, despite currently finding himself fourth-choice at the club. The former City captain currently finds himself below Joleon Lescott, Vincent Kompany and new signing Matija Nastasic in manager Roberto Mancini's plans. "I want to stay, I want to fight for my place," the 31-year-old told BBC Sport. I think we can all agree that no Gooner likes either of these teams, they take a lot of our players, tap our team up, slate us off and just generally tend to annoy us. But we do seem to get some positives from it. Most years, Barcelona bid and sign a lot of our players, in fact they have paid us £135million in transfer fees over the past 12 years, signing Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Thierry Henry, Alex Hleb, Cesc Fabregas and now Alex Song – averaging at over £11million per season. As for Manchester City, they have paid Arsenal £73million in transfer fees since 2009, signing Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri – averaging almost £25million per year.
Now call me a pessimist or anti-Wenger, but of this £200m spent, how many of these players have actually improved the squad. Some have made the club profit (mainly to Manchester City) yet their influence at Arsenal has been minimal, or at the least has not brought success. I believe that Wenger’s flawed transfer policy has led to a policy of quantity over quality and as you can see above, not all the transfers are “cheap”. Arsenal therefore have made grave mistakes in the transfer market which has affected the success of the side. Do not be fooled that Arsenal do not spend money, what they do is spend is for the wrong players. Defending wins titles Already I hope spoken of the success which Wenger enjoyed due to the strong defence he firstly inherited from George Graham and then the one he assembled of Lehmann, Kolo Toure, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole and Lauren. In both cases his attacking football was supported by an immense, powerful and reliable defensive structure. The success of his fast paced, ...

Wenger: They have enough Arsenal players atCity now! "Already, it is Adebayor, Kolo Touré, Clichy, Nasri. They have Vieira there, that’s five … Brian Marwood, Brian Kidd … he played for Arsenal. David Platt, yes. That’s eight! They have enough players there now. Am I flattered? More worried. But it’s a little bit of anormal process. Van Persie and Manchester City? The questioncannot be asked because you cannot contact anybody who’s under contract." There is no doubt these one-way transfers toManchester City needs to stop, but to compete with the resources they have available is impossible. Club loyalty seems to be becoming a diminishing trait of modern footballers and therefore City will always be able to lure top-class players with the bags ofcash they can offer. scums.
