SPORTS: Ivorian striker Bony Wilfried, has become the most expensive African player of all time after signing a £28 million deal from Swansea City to English Premier League champions, Manchester City. His move happened while Wilfried is away on national duty to play for his homeland in the 2015 African Cup of Nations. The respected footballer arrives his new team from a great background; he was the Premier League’s scorer in the calendar year of 2014 and has scored 34 goals in 70 games since joining Swansea in 2013. The soccer star says the move is both a honor and a challenge. He is quoted as saying “It’s a great feeling for me, it’s a big honor to be here and it’s a great challenge. As a player it’s always good to be part of one of the biggest clubs in the world and it’s a good opportunity for me to be in that situation now — I’m really proud,” He added “I felt excited to wait for this moment and, now it’s come, it’s fantastic. I think it’s a great decision for me — Manche ...
Prediction: English Premier League / Manchester City VS Sunderland -- Match Time:1/1/2015 23:00 Thursday -- More detail...paper this one looks a mismatch as Manchester City play host to Sunderland at the Ethiad. Manchester City though threw away a 2-0 lead against Burnley on Sunday to draw the game 2-2. That was probably the biggest shock of the festive period and showed that even the best of teams are capable of slip ups. WIth Manchester City going through something of an injury crisis the team is missin Aguero, Dzeko and Jovetich leaving no fit strikers in the squad. David Silva has stepped up scoring in the last three games, Ya Ya Toure has also been brilliant during this time. Jovetich was fit enough to come on Sunday for thirty minutes but is obviously not fit. Manchester City will be looking to get the win here and put pressure on Chelsea who dont play until 17.30 on Thursday. Sunderland have a nice little run going in away fixtures, unbeaten in their last five. Gus Poyet's team have not lost an . ...

England Posted on December 8, 2014 by john Mourinho: It’s only one defeat(AFP) Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insisted his side were still the team to beat despite the English Premier League leaders seeing their unbeaten start to the season ended by Newcastle United. Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 setback against ten-man Newcastle United, their first loss since April, saw Chelsea fall one game short of setting a club-record mark of 24 matches without defeat. More damagingly, it allowed defending champions Manchester City to close to within three points of Mourinho’s side by winning 1-0 at home to Everton. But the Chelsea manager said he was relaxed after Papiss Cisse’s brace condemned his team to a third consecutive defeat on Tyneside. “We were unlucky and Newcastle had the luck, but I have no complaints towards my players and how they went about the game,” said Mourinho, whose side hit back through Didier Drogba. “It’s one defeat, but it’s the kind of defeat which I can accept a little more, be ...
THE 3 BEST SQUADS IN Premier League HISTORY In 1992, in a step that marked a new epoch in how football was viewed the world over, all 22 teams from the First Division of the English domestic Football League resigned en-masse to form the English Premier League. 22 years on, the Premier League is the most-watched Football League in the world, broadcast in 212 territories to 643 million homes. 46 clubs have since earned the privilege of competing for the most prestigous domestic title in world football, and only 5 clubs have managed to lay their hands on the coveted trophy – Manchester United 13 times, Arsenal and Chelsea thrice, Manchester City twice and Blackburn Rovers once. Some teams have gone beyond simply being titled champions for a season though. Through clinically competitive performances, through eye-catching performances brimming with flair, or with attitudes that screamed out the desire to not turn out on the losing side, a few champion teams have earned the right of having lasting eulogies co ...

English Premier LEAGUE 2014/15 SEASON BEGINS No fixture is considered easy as the English Premier League kicks off today with 20-time champions Manchester United facing Swansea City and Arsenal hosting CrystalPalace in a London derby. Both United and Arsenal will be in the spotlight for the most part of the season following their dramatic campaigns last season. United, who were aiming to defend the title they won in the 2012-13 season, had flopped under manager David Moyes and had finished the season 7th in the log, a position that was as strange to the Red Devils as falling to their ‘noisy’ neighbours twice in the season; the second being a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford. Arsenal also had one of their most embarrassing campaigns in recent time, losing on wide margins to Liverpool and Manchester City, and finishing fourth, again, after staying atop the league for most weeks of the season. Unlike how Arsenal started the league last season when they lost 3-1 to Aston Villa, they are favourites to win today ...

City land Nissan five-year sponsor deal TOKYO, July 17- English Premier League champions Manchester City have landed a five-year sponsorship deal with Japanese automaker Nissan, both parties said on Thursday. Financial terms of the deal, announced at Nissan’s global headquarters in Yokohama, were not disclosed, but City called it the “most significant of its type in the Premier League”. Chevrolet, part of General Motors, sponsors City’s bitter cross-city rivals Manchester United, swelling the club’s coffers by an estimated $70 million a season. The partnership between Nissan, which owns Japanese club Yokohama F-Marinos, and City follows an initial agreement in May in which Manchester City’s holding company City Football Group (CFG) took a minority stake in Yokohama. City, who pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title last season in a dramatic run-in, are currently ranked as the world’s seventh richest club by Forbes, with Spain’s Real Madrid and Barcelona topping the list. City chairman ...
Susic: Dzeko is Bosnia's Messi Safet Susic believes Edin Dzeko has a similar role to play for Bosnia-Herzegovina as Lionel Messi does for Argentina. Head coach Susic will be counting on the Manchester City striker in their crucial Group F ame against Nigeria in Cuiaba. The Bosnians are going all out for a win, Susic said, even though a draw would suffice after their opening loss to Argentina. Defeat against Nigeria would end Bosnia's interest in the FIFA World Cup™. The importance of Dzeko, an integral part of the City team that won two English Premier League titles in the past three years, was noted by Susic. “Dzeko is equally important to us as Ronaldo is for Portugal, as Neymar is to Brazil and as Messi is to Argentina," the Bosnia coach said. Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic says his team are fully focused on the task in hand. “We're raring to go, if we lose it's over for us, we won't let that happen,” he said. “We will fight, not just for us but for the country.” Nigeria, Panic added, were ...
The 2014-2015 English Premier League fixtures announced . . . . . . . . . Manchester United play Swansea in first game, while champions Manchester City have a torrid start to the campaign The Premier League fixtures for the 2014/15 season have been released, with Liverpool meeting Southampton and it could be Rickie Lambert’s debut against his former club. Similarly, Adam Lallana looks set to be signing at Anfield this summer and Ronald Koeman probably couldn’t have imagined a tougher match as he looks to follow successfully in the footsteps of Mauricio Pochettino. Meanwhile, Manchester United once again face Swansea City in their opening game, with Louis Van Gaal taking charge of the Red Devils and the champions of two seasons ago have a reasonable run of opening fixtures. The same can’t be said of Manchester City who go to St James’ Park before subsequent matches against Liverpool, Stoke, Arsenal and Chelsea. Chelsea open up with a trip to Turf Moor, while Leicester City kick their campaign off . ...

Luis Suarez returns to Uruguay training Luis Suarez kicked a ball again during World Cup training just 16 days after undergoing knee surgery, Uruguayan media reported. The Liverpool striker has been "walking, running a little in a straight line and for the first time kicked the 'Brazuca' ball", said the Uruguayan football website Tenfield. "He played short passes and did some headers", Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion reported of the team training session, which was supposed to take place behind closed doors. On Friday, Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said Suarez's rehabilitation was proceeding well. The 27-year-old is a key element in Uruguay's team after the best season of his career when he was top scorer in the English Premier League with 31 goals for Liverpool, who finished runners-up to Manchester City. Suarez underwent a knee operation on May 22 in Montevideo to fix a problem with his meniscus. Uruguay are in Group D with England, Italy and Costa Rica.
Chelsea Have Agreed Fabregas Deal According to Reports. Although there are no official reports stating an agreement has been made, the Daily Star claim that Chelsea have beaten Arsenal and Manchester City to the signature of Cesc Fabregas in the Spaniard's anticipated return to the English Premier League this summer. Having gone as far as he believes he can at Barcelona, Fabregas is once again looking at making a run at an English title in the Premier League and at only 27 years of age he has plenty of time to make a run in his prime. With Frank Lampard set to move to the United States with New York City FC, Fabregas now has a chance to take up a primary role in the Blues' midfield for Jose Mourinho. If he were to move to Arsenal he could still have that same chance, but there is some belief that the Blues have the better overall squad with the ability to make a better title run in 2014/15 unless something drastic happens at the Emirates. At Manchester City, Fabregas would potentially struggle to get a pl ...
World Cup: Demichelis makes Argentina's squad Central defender Martin Demichelis was named on Monday in Argentina's 23-man World Cup squad while regular reserve midfielder Ever Banega was left out. Coach Alejandro Sabella recalled Demichelis to his provisional squad last month after his title-winning season with English Premier League side Manchester City following more than two years out of the Argentina reckoning. The defender who made way for Demichelis is another veteran of the 2010 finals in South Africa, Nicolas Otamendi, who was on loan at Brazil's Atletico Mineiro and had also only recently been recalled by Sabella. Benfica winger Enzo Perez also found a place in the squad for the Brazil finals starting on June 12 but Banega, who joined Newell's Old Boys from Valencia this season, missed the cut after illness and loss of form. Argentina, captained by Lionel Messi, will be looking to win their third world crown. They face Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria in Group F. SQUAD: Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Sampd ...
The Three Great Captains As the dust of this season’s English Premier League settles, we look back at three defensive blunders by the three most capable captains in the league. These mistakes marked the turning points that defined the race to the top of the table. The first was at Selhurst Park, when Terry, the grand commander of the miserly Chelsea defence, inexplicably headed the ball into his own net, though under duress from Crystal Palace forward. This swung the pendulum away from Chelsea towards Liverpool and Manchester City. This was not helped by their subsequent loss to Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. At Ainfield, after City had fought gallantly to equalize a two goal lead by Liverpool, Kompany, the stalwart at City’s defence, mis-kicked the ball, and allowed Cutinho to shoot the ball beyond the reach of Hart. This swung the pendulum away from City and towards Liverpool. Also at Ainfield two weeks later, Gerald, the Achilles heel of Liverpool's midfield, mis-controlled the ball and slipped ...

Manchester City player Jesus Navas just scored the fastest goal (13 seconds) in the English Premier League this season
Good sport. We have a new breed of football fans, especially those following the English Premier League. At the beginning of the season, they were vocal about their love for Manchester United. Then when Arsenal went top and Man U’s prospects took a knock, they switched their vocal support to the “noisy neighbour’s” Eastlands camp - Manchester City was then swatting teams by the tennis score. And when Chelsea ascended to the summit, their voices crossed to the Bridge briefly before taking yet another flight out to Anfield when it was Liverpool’s turn to destroy defences. Now that things are looking as clear as muddy water, their voices are “hushly” undecided. But trust me; they will emerge in a few days proclaiming their allegiance to whoever will have conquered the Barclays Cup. Such good sports…

Wenger unsure when Ox will return (PA) Thursday 1 May 2014 Share Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits it is "very difficult" to say when england midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be back in action. The 20-year-old missed Monday night's 3-0 win over Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium because of a niggling groin problem, after which Wenger indicated he would need at least two weeks' complete rest. Arsenal could seal up fourth place this weekend, when they host West Brom on Sunday after Everton play Manchester City, and head to Norwich for the final English Premier League match before then finishing their domestic campaign with the FA Cup Final against Hull at Wembley on 17 May. By then, England manager Roy Hodgson will have named his provisional 30-man FIFA World Cup™ squad. Wenger, though, remains cautious over the rehabilitation of Oxlade-Chamberlain, who like Jack Wilshere - recovering from a fractured foot - will be desperate for a place on the plane to Brazil. "Alex is in treatment at the moment ...

Zabaleta: We're hungry for the title (PA) Monday 28 April 2014 Share Pablo Zabaleta has tipped Manchester City to swipe the English Premier League title in the season's final seconds, just as they did in 2012. Two added-time goals sent the title to the Etihad Stadium two years ago, as Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero salvaged a 3-2 home victory over Queens Park Rangers. It meant City claimed their first top flight title since 1968 on goal difference, and after Sunday's unflinching 2-0 win at Crystal Palace, Zabaleta believes Manuel Pellegrini's men are ready for a repeat of 2012. "We know that we've been in this situation two years ago and I think we had been talking about that last week," said Zabaleta, well aware City could now be crowned champions on goal-difference once again. "The most important thing we've learned from that experience was the team spirit to keep fighting until the end. "Whoever ends as the champions, it is because they will deserve it, and we are one of those teams who will fight for it ...
Lampard: We will keep going (PA) Sunday 27 April 2014 Share Frank Lampard has his sights set on the English Premier League title after Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. A point for Liverpool would have made them huge favourites to lift the trophy, but this result brings both Chelsea and Manchester City back into it. Chelsea appeared out of it after losing at home to Sunderland last week, but goals from Demba Ba and Willian earned them the points at Anfield. "It wasn't mathematically impossible before today and certainly not now," Lampard told Sky Sports News. "We'll keep going. We showed that desire on the pitch. We were devastated last week against Sunderland because it was a home game and we wanted to win. But we've bounced back today. We changed the team, Tomas Kalas came in for his debut and was absolutely fantastic. Every man out there was brilliant." Ba's goal came after a slip from Steven Gerrard, who has been instrumental in Liverpool's climb to the top of the table. Lampard had sym ...
Sunderland defeat relegation rivals Cardiff (PA) Sunday 27 April 2014 Share Connor Wickham made it five goals in three games as Sunderland eased themselves out of the English Premier League relegation zone with victory over ten-man Cardiff. The 21-year-old, who has spent much of the season on loan in the Championship, headed the Black Cats into a 26th-minute lead to add to the double he scored at Manchester City and his strike in last weekend's 2-1 win at Chelsea, and then sealed the win with a late header. He played a key role in the second goal, too, as he forced defender Juan Cala into the ill-judged challenge which cost him a red card and his side a penalty. Fabio Borini made no mistake from the spot and, when substitute Emanuele Giaccherini added a third 14 minutes from time, the game was won, to the delight of the bulk of a crowd of 45,859. It was just Sunderland's second league victory at the Stadium of Light in 11 attempts and the first time they had put together back-to-back wins in almost three ...

England Posted on March 30, 2014 by john Arsenal keep City in check, Chelsea crash(AFP) Manchester City squandered an opportunity to replace Chelsea at the English Premier League summit after being held to a 1-1 draw by an improved Arsenal side. Chelsea’s 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace meant that victory at the Emirates Stadium would have sent City top on goal difference, but they remain third after David Silva’s opener was cancelled out by Mathieu Flamini. The day’s events mean that only five points now separate leaders Chelsea and fourth-place Arsenal, who produced a much more determined display after last weekend’s 6-0 demolition by Jose Mourinho’s side.
Pellegrini: We are not favourites in any game Manuel Pellegrini might have more reason than any other Manchester City manager in history to adopt a position of superiority as he prepares to take his team to Old Trafford for the first time in his career on Tuesday night. Pellegrini's men sit 12 points clear of Manchester United in the English Premier League table, and the Chilean knows extending that advantage will both boost City's title hopes and hand a crushing blow to David Moyes' shaky hopes of reaching Europe. But after years of acrimonious pre-match derby build-up, Pellegrini appears determined to build bridges - even conceding City still have significant work to do to emulate the sheer weight of history that sits in the red part of town. Pellegrini said: "I think this club has been trying to work in the last four years to reduce the difference we have against important teams - against Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, and in Europe as well. It is always important because when you have two imp ...

David Silva inspired 10-man Manchester City to a 2-0 victory at Hull City on Saturday that kept the visitors’ English Premier League title fate in their own hands.
Paris (AFP) - Ivory Coast and Swansea striker Wilfried Bony experienced mixed emotions away to Liverpool at the weekend, bagging a brace in a 4-3 English Premier League loss. Compatriot and African Footballer of the Year Yaya Toure was more successful, hitting the goal that gave title challengers Manchester City a 1-0 home win over Stoke City. Arthur Boka was another unhappy Ivorian scorer -- his first goal of the season for German outfit Stuttgart could not prevent a 2-1 home defeat by Hertha Berlin. ENGLAND Yaya Toure (Manchester City) Toure made sure that City kept on the tail of league leaders Chelsea by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at home to Stoke City. The Ivory Coast midfielder struck in the 70th minute at the Etihad Stadium, converting a low cross from Aleksandar Kolarov to take his tally for the season to 13 league goals. Wilfried Bony (Swansea City) Bony claimed a brace but finished on the losing side as Swansea went down 4-3 at Liverpool. The Ivorian striker equalised twice, heading home ...
CHELSEA MAINTRAINS Premier League LEAD AFTER LATE WINNER After being humbled by Manchester City in the FA Cup and drawing against West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League, Chelsea could hardly afford to drop points against Everton on Saturday. The Blues didn't -- barely. And it was the man who has been dubbed 'Mr. Chelsea,' the returning John Terry, who struck deep in injury time following a free kick from another Chelsea veteran, Frank Lampard.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists no mind games are at play after claiming Liverpool have a 'big advantage' in the title race. Brendan Rodgers' men are within four points of English Premier League leaders Chelsea after their 3-2 win over Fulham on Wednesday. Liverpool striker Luis Suarez still insists the allegations surrounding his ban for racial abusing Patrice Evra were 'all false'. Juan Mata has insisted he is happy to play anywhere for Manchester United and remain ...

Tottenham face a crucial game in the battle for fourth place in the English Premier League when they host Everton on Sunday, February 9 at White Hart Lane. After dropping two points against Hull, Spurs must get three points against one of their direct rivals for the top four. Tim Sherwood has used a 4-4-2 formation in all but two of his previous Premier League matches as manager, opting for 4-2-3-1 only against Swansea away and Manchester City at home. For the Everton game, the manager will probably revert to playing two up front once again, as his team needs to attack and score. His starting XI should not be too different compared to the one that tied 1-1 at Hull City. Let’s take a look at Sherwood’s options for the upcoming fixture. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has established himself as the undisputed no.1 keeper for Spurs, playing in 23 out of their 24 Premier League games this season. The Frenchman will certainly start against Everton, leaving Brad Friedel on the bench once again. Defence Sherwood seem ...

Deulofeu denies Arsenal, Fulham A fine 84th-minute goal by substitute Gerard Deulofeu earned Everton a 1-1 draw at Arsenal on Sunday that prevented the English Premier League leaders from moving seven points clear. Arsenal had taken the lead only four minutes earlier, through Mesut Ozil, but with a handsome advantage beckoning, on-loan Barcelona forward Deulofeu smashed home to earn his side a point that their endeavour deserved. Having seen Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United drop points on Saturday, Arsenal are nonetheless five points clear of Liverpool and Chelsea ahead of their trip to City next weekend. Defending champions United, meanwhile, are now 13 points behind Arsene Wenger's side in ninth place. The first-half was a cagey affair with good spells of possession for both sides, but there were few chances to show for it early on. With halftime nearing, and dissent in the crowd growing, Arsenal roused themselves, but when first Giroud and then Aaron Ramsey were sent through, Everton goal ...

In the English Premier League, Southampton frustrated Manchester City as more away points dropped.
A 3-0 away victory at a ground where the might of Manchester failed to win proves Arsenal have the style and grit of true title contenders. Despite their four-point lead at the start of December, doubts will persist over Arsenal's ability to capture the English Premier League title and end their eight-year trophy drought. A recent history filled with high-profile failures, near misses and flattering to deceive has ensured that Arsenal are rarely taken seriously as true contenders. The skeptics usually point to a lack of grit, an absence of the determination to grind out results in tough places. But this season's Gunners are as well-stocked as any team in the grit department. A plethora of late goals is ample proof of a group that never gives up probing for scoring chances. This characteristic was exemplified in the recent 3-0 demolition of Cardiff City, featuring two goals after the 85th minute. The newly promoted upstarts had already bested Manchester City and held current champions United to a point. Th ...
Defensive deficiencies frustrate Pellegrini (AFP) Saturday 30 November 2013 Manuel Pellegrini admits Manchester City's defensive record is a concern ahead of their clash with Swansea City despite his team's stunning goal spree. Pellegrini's commitment to attacking football, one of the reasons he was hired following the sacking of the more cautious Roberto Mancini, has triggered a flood of goals that shows no sign of abating. City's tally of 34 goals in 12 English Premier League games is ten more than any rival, including leaders Arsenal, whom they trail by six points having suffered four defeats, mainly due to errors at the back, including unexpected losses at Cardiff and Sunderland. Indeed, City host Swansea on the back of a 4-2 home win over Viktoria Plzen in the Uefa Champions League which featured some sloppy defending from Pellegrini's side. The Czech minnows have not won a point in their group games, but they threatened to embarrass City for long spells at Eastlands and Pellegrini has demanded they ...

In what becomes another scary angle to the unfolding controversy over transfer options falling into Iheanacho’s laps after his sterling displays at UAE 2013, the youngster has sensationally fallen out with his dad over the choice of his next port of call. The raging controversy over Iheanacho’s future took a strange twist on Friday, when Iheanacho senior raised alarm on Owerri radio over the whereabouts of his soccer star. De Gea: Hart will Bounce Back (PA) Monday 4 November 2013 Joe Hart has earned backing from an unlikely source after Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea claimed the Manchester City goalkeeper will win back his first-team place. Hart will sit out his third game on Tuesday night when Costel Pantimilon plays in City's Uefa Champions League encounter with CSKA Moscow at the Etihad Stadium. With Fraser Forster likely to get his England chance in this month's friendly double-header against Chile and Germany, Hart is under pressure with both club and country. But De Gea, who had to overcome his own troubles before sealing his status as one of the English Premier League's top goalkeepers, is certain Hart will not be out of the limelight for long. "Joe Hart is a great keeper," he said. "It's very complicated to play at the top level and to never make mistakes. "I am sure he will work very hard to go back into the first 11 and sooner or later he will make it."
Etuhu Back From Injury -As Omeruo Welcomes Younger Brother Former Super Eagles midfielder, Dickson Paul Etuhu is back in training with Blackburn Rovers of England, following several months out with injury. The once-promising schemer, who has played for several clubs in England and was part of the Eagles’ South Africa 2010 World Cup campaign, returned to training at the weekend after he was sidelined last season due to a knee injury. Etuhu was among the Blackburn Rovers players who trained at Brockhall, under the watchful eyes of Rovers’ new manager, Craig Short, who tasked the Nigerian star and his colleagues to go all out to win promotion back to the English Premier League. The 31-year-old Etuhu, who signed a four-year contract with Blackburn in the summer of 2012, has in the past played for the quintet of Manchester City, Preston North End, Norwich City, Sunderland and Fulham, during which period he also won 17 caps with the Eagles. ONLY BARCELONA & Real Madrid IMMUNE TO La Liga EXODUS Unlike in England, where a more equitable system is in place, television revenue is weighted in favour of the Big Two, who collect 50 per cent of the total income to leave the remaining 18 clubs scrapping it out for less than three per cent apiece. Spain’s squad for the Confederations Cup contains nine players from Barcelona, four from Real Madrid and only one other currently based in La Liga. Jesus Navas confirmed departure to Manchester City means Valencia striker Roberto Soldado is the sole representative from La Liga’s ‘other’ clubs, although he himself is a serious target for Tottenham this summer. After Barcelona and Madrid, in fact, the most heavily represented club in Vicente Del Bosque’s squad is Chelsea, who are contributing three players – Fernando Torres, Juan Mata and Cesar Azpilicueta – towards an overall tally of eight from the English Premier League. The brain drain of Spanish talent has been underway for a few years now . ...

The New York Yankees paired up with the world's richest soccer club on Tuesday in a dramatic move that will see the iconic baseball franchise acquire Major League Soccer's newest team and potentially stage games at Yankee Stadium. MLS chiefs revealed that the Yankees and Manchester City, the 2012 English Premier League champion backed by the endless wealth of the Abu Dhabi royal family, will combine to own New York City Football Club, which is expected to begin MLS play in 2015. The intriguing prospect of the team sharing Yankee Stadium is a likely one, at least until the new organization finds or builds a stadium of its own. ''Yankee Stadium is an option, as are many places,'' Yankees president Randy Levine said. City's owners shelled out a record $100 million "franchise fee" to MLS for the rights to operate a team and will own a majority share, with the Yankees' stake amounting to around 25 percent. "We are pleased to be associated with this major move by MLS to increase its presence in the New York mar ...

THE post-Mario Balotelli era at Manchester City began in lacklustre fashion as it was held to a 0-0 draw at Queens Park Rangers today that prevented it from making up ground on Manchester United. Victory for City would have cut United's lead to just two points, but instead Alex Ferguson's side will tackle Southampton tomorrow with an opportunity to re-open a seven-point lead at the English Premier League summit. The troublesome Italian striker is expected to complete a switch to AC Milan tomorrow, and City could have done with some extra firepower at Loftus Road. An injury to Vincent Kompany obliged the champion to start with Spanish midfielder Javi Garcia at centre-back, but it began with both Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero in attack as they sought to exploit bottom club QPR's defensive frailties. Joleon Lescott blazed an early chance over the crossbar from close range, while Pablo Zabaleta headed against the bar from a David Silva cross and Aguero had a goal ruled out for offside.

Transfer News Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez has reportedly rejected a contract extension from the club, fueling speculation that the Argentina international is set to return to his former club Boca Juniors next summer, the Daily Mirror understands. Earlier this week, Tevez revealed that he would contemplate signing a new deal with the English Premier League champions, but recent reports are suggesting the 28-year-old will stay at the club until 2014, when his current contract expires, and then return to Argentina. Tevez has re-established himself in the first-team at Manchester City after following out-of-favour with manager Roberto Mancini in 2011. The “following-out” was, somewhat infamously, a result of the Argentina international allegedly refusing to enter a Uefa Champions League match in which City were down 2-0 to Bavarian giants Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. However, that has long been forgotten, with Tevez having returned to the first-team towards the latter stages of last season ...
Excellent Article:- Danny Milosevic is eager to give back to the sport that gave him so much and promised even more before a mixture of injury, personal reasons and depression ended his career prematurely. The former Australian youth international is leading a group of 12 young goalkeepers on a tour of England to expose them to the joys and pitfalls of being a professional footballer at the elite level. “I am trying to find the next generation of Australian goalkeepers,” said Milosevic, manager of One2One Football and a part-time coach with the National Training Centre, told Goal.com The two-week itinerary includes stopovers at Leeds United, Manchester City, Fulham and Reading as well as attendance at FA Cup and English Premier League games. “It’s going to be a buzz and it’s going to be really exciting but the reality is that it’s tough training,” commented Milosevic, who was on the books of Leeds for more than four seasons. “It takes a certain type of person. Hopefully after this they can ...
World Sports News Fan anger mounts over EPL ticket prices Discontent among supporters over spiralling English Premier League ticket prices is mounting, as fans attempt to make their voices heard and even followers of sworn enemies join forces to call for change. Opposition reached a head after champions Manchester City returned 912 unsold tickets priced at 62 pounds ($A95) for Sunday's game at Arsenal, while fans brandished banners reading "Don't price us out of our game" and "62 and we're still here". The protest, compounded by claims that fans were threatened with arrest if they did not take down their placards, came after supporters of Manchester United and Liverpool joined together last week to express their anger at escalating costs. "We're looking at working with the arch-enemy Manchester United and others to put a bit of pressure on the clubs to introduce a cap for prices on away tickets," said Paul Martin, from Liverpool fan group Spirit of Shankly. "The rivalry will start to dwindle when the pric ...
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says the club will appeal Vincent Kompany’s red card against Arsenal. The City captain was shown a straight red for a two-footed lunge on Jack Wilshere after referee Mike Dean had earlier dismissed Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny for a foul on Edin Dzeko. The English Premier League champions ran out comfortable 2-0 winners but the result was tarnished by Kompany’s dismissal, and Mancini confirmed they will be asking the FA to overturn the suspension. “This is not a red card, absolutely not,” he told Sky Sports. “He has one foot to take the ball, the other is left. I think that the referee made a mistake there. “It was not a sending off for Vinnie because Vinnie took the ball with only one foot after anticipating the opponent.” Mancini said the red card to Koscielny, who hauled down Dzeko in the penalty area, made things easier for his side, but was disappointed they were unable to extend their lead after the break. “If you play with 10 players it ...
Tough choice on another brilliant summer's day (in most places anyway) ... get out and about in the sunshine or feast on sport from the couch. So what have you been doing? If it's sports watching there has been so much to pick from. What have you been taking in or have you been surfing? There's the NFL play-offs (49ers v Packers at the moment), HRV Cup cricket (Firebirds v Northern Knights), one-day international cricket (Australia v Sri Lanka), A League football (Wellington Phoenix v Wanderers) and rugby union (national sevens). Still to come in the early hours two great English Premier League Football encounters (Manchester United v Liverpool and Arsenal v Manchester City) plus later tonight - but only for the brave - the second cricket Test between South Africa and the Black Caps (not pretty at all unfortunately).
The outcome of this season's English Premier League title race will be shaped by a tournament taking place 13,000 kilometres away in South Africa. The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on January 19 when hosts South Africa tackle Cape Verde in Johannesburg and few sides in the English top flight will have their squads untouched by the competition. Defending champions Manchester City already have a seven-point gap on leaders Manchester United to chase down and their cause will not be helped by the absences of brothers Kolo and Yaya Toure, who play for the Ivory Coast. Yaya, 29, was the driving force behind last season's title success but his absence for the 2012 Cup of Nations coincided with a spell that saw City eliminated from the League Cup by Liverpool, knocked out of the FA Cup by United, and beaten 1-0 by Everton in the league. His elder brother, Kolo, has enjoyed a more prominent role this season, having established himself as the first-choice deputy to centre-backs Vincent Kompany and Matija Nas ...
I come back home from my exam today to realise that FIFA named a Spanish Primera Liga all-star XI for their FIFPro Team of the Year 2012. Lionel Messi deserved his FIFA Ballon D'Or and Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao, Andres Iniesta and Xabi Alonso deserved their place in the 'dream team' too but Gerard Pique? Dani Alves? Marcelo? Really? Has FIFA gone nuts or do all their officials only watch the Spanish league? Perhaps I'm biased towards the English Premier League but surely there was one or two players worthy of being in that 'Team of the Year'. Robin Van Persie had a terrific year last season, winning the PFA Player of the Year and being the top goalscorer too. His goalscoring record in 2012 was only bettered by Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Radamel Falcao, shouldn't he deserve a place in the team? What about Vincent Kompany? I don't like Manchester City for obvious reasons but I admire him for his leadership qualities, intelligence and never-say-die attitude, abilities that would have made hi ...

Woman Found Dead At Football Ground 24 December, 2012 Foreign A woman was found dead at Reading’s Madejski Stadium, having suffered serious head injuries, police said Sunday. The 22-year-old was found at the bottom of a stairwell at 12:50 am on Saturday, Thames Valley Police said. She was discovered in the Millennium Madejski Hotel, which forms part of the English Premier League side’s ground. Reading lies 40 miles (60 kilometres) west of London. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. “The woman had been attending a Christmas party at the time of the incident,” said Detective Inspector Phil O’Neil. “We are treating her death as unexplained and there are a number of inquiries taking place to establish the full circumstances of what happened.” No arrests had been made, he added. Reading played away from home against champions Manchester City on Saturday.

Mirror Football is reporting that Everton are looking to bring Joleon Lescott back to Goodison Park in the January transfer window. The England international of course made his name in the English Premier League with the Toffees, before leaving for a huge fee of £24 million to Manchester City. It is thought that David Moyes might try and lure him back to the club on a loan deal as at the moment, he is not getting much first-team football under Roberto Mancini. When it comes to the big games, Mancini has opted to leave Lescott on the bench and Kolo Toure appears to have moved up in the pecking order as the third choice centre-back. If Moyes did bring Lescott in, the wages could be a stumbling block as he is on around £90,000-per-week, so City would have to continue to pay some of his salary. If they managed to agree terms, then Everton may look to sell John Heitinga and then hope to use his transfer fee to bring more new faces to Merseyside. Reports suggest that Moyes is keen on signing two strikers, Kev ...
Report: Chelsea close in on Shaw Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Southampton prodigy Luke Shaw, according to reports. The young left-back, who turned 17 in July, has been closely monitored by the European champions in recent months and is set to be the subject of an offer ahead of the January window. Goal.com report that Chelsea have identified Shaw as a potential understudy to Ryan Bertrand, with the prospect growing that Ashley Cole will leave Stamford Bridge. Shaw has been heavily scouted by several leading English Premier League clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester City among those who have made enquiries about signing him. But the firmest interest has been shown by Chelsea, who made it clear to Southampton they would like to take the England Under-17 international to Stamford Bridge. Shaw has been dubbed 'the new Gareth Bale' and is the latest star graduate of an academy which has recently produced Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain, as well as the Tottenham winger. Shaw made his Southa ...
The biggest English Premier League game of the weekend is undoubtedly the Chelsea vs Manchester City matchup at Stamford Bridge in London today, November 25th. Chelsea will be hoping their home advantage & new coach earn them all the three points at stake. Both teams are coming off a disappointing week in the Champions League. Man City was held to a 1-1 home draw against Real Madrid which ultimately condemned them to the less prestigious EuropaCup while Chelsea were handed a lesson in goal scoring in Turin where they fell 3-0 to Italian champions, Juventus. City hasn’t lost a game in the league yet and go into this game in second place with 28 points from eight wins and four draws. Chelsea also come into this match sitting in fourth place just behind West Brom. They have seven wins, three draws and two losses in league play. A win against City here would put them right back in the middle of the title race after having only managed to earn two points in their last four league matches. In their last 10 me ...
Norwich inflicted Manchester United's third loss in the English Premier League on Saturday, winning 1-0 to ensure that Alex Ferguson's side was overtaken atop the standings by Manchester City.
Poor defending upsets Di Matteo 17 November 2012 22:34 Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo labelled his team's defending 'poor' after their 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Goals from Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie helped West Brom to their sixth home win of the season after Eden Hazard had equalised for the visitors at the Hawthorns. Di Matteo rued his side's defensive display after the loss, which saw Chelsea's winless run in the English Premier League extended to four. "It's a ground we find difficult to win at – both last season and this season. We know that they are very good at home," he said. "Given the way that we conceded goals like we did today, then it becomes difficult to win the game. "You have to score three goals to win the game. Our defending was poor today. We didn't concede many chances to them, but the ones we did, we had to do better." Chelsea could yet find it difficult to return to winning ways in November with league matches against Manchester City and Fulham – both ...

A few years ago when I came to America I though the Arab nation and their leaders were several decades behind the civilization but I never could have imagined that we were hundreds of years behind. Two days ago I came home from work and I was so tired. I was walking to my bed when my brother asked me to see a documentary with him. First I refused because I wanted to sleep but the title caught my attention, “The Men Who Built America.” I decided to spend a few minutes watching it and those few minutes turned in to hours. I was so impressed at how people like John D. Rockefeller, Carnegie, J.P.Morgan, and Ford who lived in the 18th century had the ability to see the bigger picture. I believe each one of these great men had the ability to predict fifty years into the future and see where they wanted to be. Before I went to bed I remembered Sheikh Mansour who spent almost one billion pounds on Manchester City to win the English Premier League, the league that we don’t even own. J.P. Morgan took a risk a ...

The Worst Signings : 5. Afonso Alves : (Heerenveen to Middlesbrough, £13million), 31 January 2008 This was and still is the biggest signing in the club’s history. Alfonso Alves had scored 45 goals in just 38 appearances for Heerenveen in his last season. But his spell at Boro was one to forget. He managed just 13 goals in 42 appearances which included a goal against Manchester United and a hat-trick against Manchester City in an 8-1 victory. However, Alves could not find the form which led to his record move, and with a haul of just four league goals the season turned out to be a disappointing one for both him and Middlesbrough, who were relegated to the Championship. 4. Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham (und ...

Mourinho still keen on Premier League return LONDO (AFP) – Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho admits he remains keen to return to the English Premier League — as long as clubs interested in hiring him roll out the red carpet. Mourinho has signed a new contract keeping him at Real until 2016 after masterminding the club’s Spanish title triumph last season. But the self-styled “Special One”, who remains a cult hero in England after his three-year reign at Chelsea, never misses a chance to remind the football world of his worth. Whenever a managerial vacancy comes up at a big Premier League club, Mourinho is linked with the job and he remains the favourite to succeed Alex Ferguson at Manchester United or Roberto Mancini at Manchester City. A return to Chelsea is less likely given the manner of his sacking in 2007 and owner Roman Abramovich’s continued interest in former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola. But Mourinho says he would consider any offer — if the club in question show him enough love and ...
Football season has started and Waleed is glued to the TV at this very moment watching the first game of Barcelona with Real Sociedad - Spanish Primera League - with 3-1 score 75 minutes to finishing the game. The mesmerizing Messi scored two of the 3 goals. Earlier Real Madrid, where my 2nd favorite (next to Messi) Christiano Ronaldo is playing, scored 1 against 1 of Valencia. In the English Premier League, both Chelsea (the Euro 2012 champs) and Manchester City (the English PL champs) won their first games. . . David Villa just scored the 5th goal. He was away the whole season last year because of a major knee surgery and his first ever game after his rest, he already scored a goal! Bravo!

By Onwuchekwa Okechukwu. Sergio Aguero’s highly dramatic winner deep in stoppage time on the last day of last season makes for a perfect precursor for the 2012/13 season, alandmark 20th season of the English Premier League. That goal; which came moments after Manchester United’s match at Sunderland had ended, won Manchester City its first league title in 44 years and in essence confirmed that the ‘Big Four’ monopoly was truly now broken. Unlike previous windows however, City’s foray in the transfer market this time has been limited but it’s not like Roberto Mancini needed to bully the rest of Europe with his club chairman’s billions. He did however pull a shock signing in JackRodwell from Everton for £15m to add to a rich squad that comprises Yaya Toure, David Silva, James Milner, Gareth Barry, Vincent Kompany, Gael Clichy, Joe Hart and Joleon Lescott (an old Everton player himself). Add those to a glamourous forward line made up of Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and the attention magnet ...

Arsenal Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Slams Chelsea and Manchester City Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken a swipe at fellow English Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City about their spending habits over the summer transfer window. According to comments that Wenger made via The Sun, he believes that Arsenal are simply not in the same league as Chelsea and City on financial terms—making it an unfair playing field that hopefully, one day, will be rectified. We consider ourselves in a privileged position because we have a massive income, but overall, we are not mega-rich because we do not have unlimited resources. A club can buy players like PSG [Paris St. Germain] has done or Manchester City and Chelsea, with unlimited resources, but overall football suffers. Europe at the moment is like the Titanic because we live in football like nothing matters. More than ever, we have to run our club in a strict way because it looks like everybody suffers in Europe. I would be surprised if foot ...
Never ever say never again. By Femi Adesina In the past few months, I surprisingly found myself an avid fan of a most unlikely club in the English Premier League (EPL). Manchester City. Manchester who? You mean Manchester United? No, Manchester City, and no mistake. That was the team I suddenly discovered myself backing fervently and rapturously. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been hooked on soccer. Nursery or primary school? Don’t really know when the bug bit me. I just knew it was there. But my relationship with the beautiful game has also matured and become tempered over the years, from when if IICC Shooting Stars got beaten in the 1970s and 1980s, I would not be able to eat or sleep for at least two days. Today, I still enjoy the round leather game immensely, but with a lot of emotional detachment. For instance, I will enjoy the good football played by Chelsea, but not with the same intensity a Duro Onabule or Mike Awoyinfa would show for the team. I would enjoy the sheer flu ...

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft would rather make adonation to charity than invest millions of dollars in a top European soccer club because the economics of football make no business sense. Analzying football's business model, Kraft insisted he would not follow the example of Abu-Dhabi owned English Premier League winners Manchester City, which has ran up huge losses -- $300 million forthe last financial year (the highestfigure in English football history) -- to assemble a championship team. "Manchester City won the championship this year and I hear they're going to lose $156 million. I would rather give that money to charity if I had it. I wantevery business to stand on its own," the 71-year-old, told CNN. In the U.S. team sports such as American football, basketball and baseball are governed by a salary cap, which limits the amount of money a team can spend on players' wages. It was the absence of such a salary cap in the Premier League that deterred Kraft from investingin Liverpool, which was ...

u got no reason for this jz ended season to brag...For the first time since 2005, Manchester United ended the season without a trophy in a major tournament or league (not counting the FA Community Shield), thanks to a wild comeback by "noisy neighbors" Manchester City to secure the English Premier League title on that fateful Sunday. It's a disappointing development for the Red Devils, to be sure, though not one about which players, supporters or even Sir Alex Ferguson need be ashamed. BEST OF LUCK NXT CSON.BITTER REMINDER SRRY
