Guardian Barca’s £172m ‘guide price’ on Messi Tuesday, 06 January 2015 19:45 Written by EDITOR Category: Abroad Lionel Messi would cost a whopping £172m should any of Barcelona’s rivals want to take him away this month, according to research into the current market values of the world’s leading players. The Argentine star comfortably tops a CIES Football Observatory countdown of football’s most valuable players and is worth £68m more than his Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo. The totals serve as a ‘guide price’ for the January transfer window, using a calculation that takes into account player performance, age, contract and the results of their team. The top 10 features six Premier League players - Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas of Chelsea, Sergio Aguero of Manchester City, Raheem Sterling of Liverpool and Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal. But it finds Messi far and away the most expensive player in Europe at the moment. Ronaldo, the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or for the wo ...
Lionel Messi is worth €87 million more than Cristiano Ronaldo , according to research within the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) in Switzerland. The 27-year-old attacker has won four Ballons d'Or in his career so far and skippered Argentina to the World Cup final last year, winning the Golden Ball award for being the Best Player in the process. Like Ronaldo with Real Madrid, Messi has a contract with Barcelona until June 2018, although reports have been circulating in recent weeks that he might swap Camp Nou for Chelsea due to discontent in Catalunya. But Chelsea will know Messi will not be cheap: the Football Observatory, a research group within CIES, suggest Messi currently has a valuation of €220m. Ronaldo is next in the list, valued at €133m, while world- record signing Gareth Bale sits in 10th with an estimated net worth of €60m to the Santiago Bernabeu club. Chelsea have three players in the top 10: Eden Hazard is rated at €99m in third spot just ahead of fourth-placed Diego ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho slams referees again after Eden Hazard penalty is denied Jose Mourinho launched another attack on referees on Thursday night after Chelsea were beaten 5-3 at White Hart Lane. The Chelsea manager, who claimed Anthony Taylor should be ‘ashamed’ after failing to awarded a penalty in the 1-1 draw at Southampton, told Phil Dowd he was ‘too slow’. Chelsea’s poor Christmas run means they are now level on points with defending champions Manchester City after they beat Sunderland 3-2. This incredible defeat is only the second time in Mourinho’s history as top class manager that one of his teams has conceded five times in a game. Mourinho’s side took the lead at Tottenham through Diego Costa and the Chelsea chief claims his side should have been given a penalty when Jan Vertonghen appeared to handle. He said: ‘I can go in another direction and say what we all know, which is, with the result 1-0, one clear action could make it 2-0. ‘Normally, at 2-0, the result would be c ...

What a perfect way of wishing us happy New Year. They have been put where they belong. . Tottenham 5 v 3 Chelsea - By Stephan Shemilt - BBC Sport *Chelsea joint top with Man City *Blues have won only four in eight *Tottenham unbeaten in six *Harry Kane has 17 goals this season Chelsea were stunned by a Harry Kane-inspired Tottenham to surrender their lead at the top of the Premier League. Diego Costa's tap-in put Chelsea ahead, but Kane's low shot levelled before Danny Rose followed up a rebound. Kane was tripped by Gary Cahill for an Andros Townsend penalty, with Kane's turn and shot giving Spurs a fourth. Eden Hazard's run gave Chelsea hope, but Nacer Chadli's deflected effort ensured John Terry's late goal from close range was only a consolation. The Terry goal does, however, mean Chelsea are equal with Manchester City in terms of points, goal difference and goals scored, so the pair are officially classed as joint-top of the table. If that situation remains at the end of the season, they would play-of ...
Jose Mourinho again bemoaned decisions going against his team after Chelsea lost a thrilling London derby 5-3 at Tottenham. Chelsea now have an identical record alongside Manchester City at the Premier League summit following a game where they took the lead through Diego Costa's 14th league goal of the season. But in-form Tottenham striker Harry Kane levelled the match after half an hour and went on to complete a brace, with Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and Nacer Chadli also on target. Eden Hazard and John Terry scored after the break as Chelsea battled gamely but Mourinho felt they were up against more than an inspired opposition.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw at Southampton as their three-match winning run came to an end. Southampton took the lead on 17 minutes when Sadio Mane lifted the ball over Thibaut Courtois, but the Blues hit back through an excellent solo Eden Hazard goal in first-half stoppage time. The Blues pressed for a winner and Saints lost Morgan Schneiderlin to a second yellow card in the final minutes, but they held firm to frustrate Jose Mourinho's men. That result would have allowed Manchester City to close within a point of the Blues at the top of the table, but they threw away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with Burnley at the Etihad Stadium. David Silva opened the scoring as he swivelled in the box before slotting home, and Fernandinho doubled their advantage with a stunning strike from the edge of the area. However, Burnley hit back through George Boyd shortly after the start of the second half, and Ashley Barnes fired them level on 81 minutes as City's run of nine successive wins in all competitions came t ...
Chelsea were grateful for the excellent Eden Hazard as the Belgian rescued a point against Southampton at St Mary's: Mourinho was convinced his side should have had a penalty, but relief came with the news that title rivals Manchester City also dropped points, with Burnley coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2:
Three Points: Chelsea ease to victory vs. West Ham John Terry and Diego Costa scored as Chelsea enjoyed a comfortable win over West Ham. Here's a trio of observations on Chelsea's 2-0 victory in the Premier League on Boxing Day. 1. Chelsea are back in the groove This Boxing Day game was effectively wrapped up when Diego Costa, seizing onto Eden Hazard's pass after Cheikhou Kouyate had given the ball away, sent three defenders in one direction with a swerve of the hips and flashed an irresistible second goal across Adrian with his left foot. There was no doubt about the outcome after that, and although Chelsea might have been steeling themselves for a tougher 90 minutes, there is no doubt that they look to be back on track after the blip -- if that's what it was -- of a few weeks ago. Two unhappy experiences in the north-east, drawing at Sunderland and losing at Newcastle, had combined with an upturn from Manchester City to cast a first shadow of doubt over Chelsea's apparent status as title shoo-ins. But ...
STOKE, England (AP) John Terry scored his first league goal of the season to help Chelsea beat Stoke 2-0 Monday and restore its three-point lead atop the Premier League. Terry put his side ahead in just the second minute with a powerful header from a corner, and Cesc Fabregas doubled the lead in the 78th to make sure Chelsea re-established the gap to second-place Manchester City. In between, it was a feisty and physical game at the Britannia Stadium and Stoke's Phil Bardsley was lucky to escape with just a yellow card after a reckless tackle on Eden Hazard in the 20th minute. ''A victory means a bit more than the three points,'' Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said. ''We won for sure in one of the most difficult places to win.'' Mourinho's side could have had more goals, with Diego Costa failing to finish a couple of good opportunities, and were generally very much in control throughout the game, showing their ability to cope with a combative Stoke outfit on a chilly evening. Stoke beat Arsenal 3-2 here aft ...
Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea's 2-0 win at Stoke, which secured top spot in the Premier League at Christmas, was worth "more than three points". John Terry and Cesc Fabregas weighed in with the goals that moved Chelsea three points clear of Manchester City. After suffering defeat at the Britannia Stadium last season, Mourinho was happy to get the job done this time. "To win here they must be a really very good team with the capacity to adapt to Stoke's style of play," Mourinho said. "These victories mean more than three points. To win and get three points, the players need the right spirit and mentality. "Only with a great team performance is it possible to be successful against Stoke." The one controversy of the match came when referee Neil Swarbrick elected only to caution Stoke defender Phil Bardsley for a full-blooded challenge on Eden Hazard.
Chelsea maintain lead as Toure rescues Man City: Diego Costa scored again as Chelsea established a seven-point lead at the Premier League summit by comfortably beating ten-man West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Costa opened the scoring in the 11th minute, leaping into the air to control Oscar’s left-wing cross on his chest and then slamming a side-foot volley past Ben Foster for his 11th goal of the campaign. Eden Hazard added a second in the 25th minute, smuggling a deflected shot beneath Foster from Cesc Fabregas’s corner, before West Brom’s Claudio Yacob was sent off for a two-footed challenge on Costa. Victory saw Chelsea set a new club record of 12 unbeaten games from the start of the season. Jose Mourinho’s side are now seven points clear of second-place Southampton, who visit Aston Villa on Monday, and remain eight points above defending champions Manchester City, who won 2-1 at home to Swansea City. Despite having captain Vincent Kompany back from injury, Manchester City fe ...
Chelsea’s strong start to the season continued on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Westbrom at Stamford Bridge. Diego Costa set the ball rolling on 11 minutes with a nice chest and volley after being picked out by Oscar. Eden Hazard then doubled the lead for the blues following a short corner by Cesc Fabregas as Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side ran out comfortable winners. Despite missing the international break with Spain through injury, both Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas were considered fit to start in the game and the move paid off. In other games, Leon Osman scored the winner as Everton defeated West Ham 2-1, Leicester City and Sunderland battled to a goalless draw, Manchester City came from a goal down to beat Swansea 2-1 at the Etihad with Yaya Toure bagging the winner, Newcastle edged Queens Park Rangers 1-0, while Burnley went to the Britannia to get all 3 points with 2-1 win over Stoke City. Three months into the English Premier League 2014/15 season, Chelsea remains the only team The post EPL: Costa ...
Sterling, who told Roy Hodgson he was too tired to play for England, has performed more sprints, over a greater distance and reached a higher top speed than Premier League rivals such as Manchester City's David Silva and Chelsea's Eden Hazard so far this season Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has denied he put pressure on Hodgson to leave Sterling out, saying: "I haven't said a single word." ---J!m0$k!---
Off colour Hazard must find his form The biggest match of the Premier League weekend sees Chelsea take on Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, and while the main build-up has centred on Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas, Blues supporters have found another topic of conversation equally interesting -- Eden Hazard. Despite being afforded plenty of game time by Jose Mourinho, Hazard's start to the new campaign has been indifferent, with a solitary goal, against newly promoted Leicester City, to show for his endeavours. Yes, there have been glimpses of his undoubted ability, particularly against Swansea and Manchester City, but last weekend against Aston Villa, Hazard cut a peripheral figure and was replaced after 68 minutes. Villa were there for the taking, perfect opponents for flat-track bully Hazard to punish, but it was tigerish, box-to-box midfielder Willian who stole the headlines in the 3-0 rout. The Brazilian's goal, complemented by strikes from Oscar and Diego Costa, sealed a comprehen ...

Frank Lampard stepped off the substitutes’ bench to score against his former club and salvage a 1-1 draw for Manchester City at home to Chelsea. The eagerly-awaited showdown at the Etihad Stadium provided few clear chances as defences dominated, but it sprang to life in the second half after Pablo Zabaleta was red carded for a second bookable offence in the 66th minute. Andre Schurrle tapped in an Eden Hazard cross five minutes later to set Chelsea on course for a fifth successive Premier League win, but they were denied by Lampard. The midfielder steered an excellent finish into the bottom corner from James Milner’s pass and, although he did not celebrate, his team-mates and fans were jubilant as City stayed within five points of the leaders. City gave a debut to Eliaquim Mangala, their £32million signing from Porto brought in to add greater depth at centre-back, but his job was made much easier playing alongside his irrepressible captain Vincent Kompany. Diego Costa, over whom fitness doubts still ...
SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Eden Hazard is reportedly close to signing a new long-term deal with Chelsea. The 23-year-old joined the Blues from Lille in 2012 and has scored 31 times in 114 appearances for the Premier League outfit - including 17 in all competitions last season. The Belgian's current deal expires in 2017, but Chelsea want to make the attacker the club's best-paid player in their history in a bid to convince him to commit his future to them, according to Goal.com,. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Martin Skrtel is likely to miss Tuesday's encounter withLudogorets Razgrad in the Champions League. The defender has been sidelined for the team's last two games after picking up a knee injury during last month's 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. Despite the Slovakia international's recent return to training, Rodgers expects the centre-back to sit out tomorrow night's match at Anfield. Chelsea overpowered Everton 6-3 in a remarkable game on Saturday to preserve their 100 percent record in the Premier League, after Manchester City were stunned by Stoke City. Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea led 2-0, 3-1, and 4-2, but Everton kept coming back at them and it was not until Diego Costa made it 6-3 with his second goal in the last minute that the home side finally admitted defeat at an enraptured Goodison Park. Chelsea were 2-0 up inside three minutes, with Diego Costa tucking away a pass from Cesc Fabregas after only 36 seconds before Ramires teed up Branislav Ivanovic to drill a low shot past Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard. But Kevin Mirallas reduced the arrears with a fine header on the stroke of half-time and when Everton right-back Seamus Coleman slid an Eden Hazard cross into his own goal in the 67th minute, it heralded a flurry of five goals in 10 minutes. Two minutes later Steven Naismith hit back for the hosts to make it 3-2 and although Nemanja Matic then restored the visitors’ two-goal c ...

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, who signed in August 2013, was the most popular choice for fans of Arsene Wenger’s side, ranked fifth. Juan Mata, who swapped the Chelsea shirt for that of Manchester United in the January transfer window, entered the top 10 after missing out the previous season. Dear USA, your national team is in no comparison to Belgium so there's no need to be upset. Belgium is a world class team. They have players alone that are worth more than the entire USA squad...for example; Eden Hazard, one of the most profilic and young superstars in Europe that plays for Chelsea. Kevin De Bruyne, young rising star who played for Chelsea and is currently at Wolfsburg. Vincent Kompany, one of the best defenders in the world playing for Manchester City. Daniel Van Buyten, veteran defender who has been playing for Bayern Munich since 2006. Alex Witsel, midfielder who got transferred to Zenit for 40 million Euros. Fellaini who plays for Manchester United and is one of the best holding midfielders in the world. Before you bash the USA players and the staff or say oh no we believe we could've beaten Belgium, you need to realize that there is no youth system here to bring out world class players. People keep going on about Landon Donovan...he went to Europe he couldn't do anything and they sen ...

Goodbye Eto'o Football Club today bids farewell to Samuel Eto'o whose contract is now at an end. Eto'o spent one season at Stamford Bridge and true to his illustrious career as one of the great strikers in world football, provided some of the most memorable moments of 2013/14 with his goals, often important opening strikes including in big games against Arsenal and Tottenham, and against Manchester United when he became just the third Chelsea player to score a hat-track against the Old Trafford outfit. He signed on a one-year deal from Anzhi Makhachkala last August, making his debut at Everton and scoring his first Chelsea goal in a 4-1 win over Cardiff City, taking an Eden Hazard pass in his stride, jinking past Steven Caulker and firing low past David Marshall. It was another important contribution, giving his team a 2-1 lead, and Eto'o's formidable history in the Champions League continued with his first goals for us in that competition soon followed, a brace in a 3-0 win against Schalke, before he net ...

The talk in Spain was that Roman Abramovich is on the brink of buying Real Mallorca. Now duel ownership is not unknown in European Football. But it is fraught with difficulty especially if the clubs end up competing against each other in the Champions League. If that is the case and he takes on Mallorca then he would have to ditch one or the other. Could it be that Roman has grown tired of Chelsea and or UEFA financial fair play regulations? Or even Jose Mourinho’s requests? Or will one of his yachts sit better in Mallorca than London? Chelsea suddenly seem to have become a selling club given the sale of David Luiz and possibly Eden Hazard. Why is that? Is it because Roman can’t compete with the Manchester City owners that he wants to take on Real Madrid and Barcelona? Is this the end of Chelsea’s Roman empire ? [Copy pasted from Daily Mail] -JCon

WHEN FOOTBALL PREVAIL OVER EVIL Roman Abramovich considers replacing Mourinho with Simeone Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is questioning whether he made the right choice hiring Jose Mourinho last summer after a poor season at Stamford Bridge. According to Le 10 Sport, the Russian oligarch is considering the possibility of sacking Mourinho less than a year after the Special One started his second stint in charge of Chelsea. The Blues have had a poor season by Abramovich's high standards, winning nothing and finishing third behind Manchester City and Liverpool. Mourinho has claimed Chelsea's failing have been down to a lack of strikers, refusing to take the blame for himself. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone has inspired Atletico Madrid to a famous La Liga title victory and could also win the Champions League on a tiny budget compared to Chelsea's. Needless to say, Abramovich sees Simeone as a potential future manager of Chelsea and could even offer him the job this summer if he does decide to sack Mourinho. Not on ...

Craig Bellamy scored on his Cardiff farewell, but Chelsea claimed a 2-1 away win on the Premier League's final day. Bellamy, who is expected to confirm his retirement next week, opened the scoring at the Cardiff City Stadium with a deflected 15th-minute strike. The Welsh club led at the interval but second-half goals from substitute Andre Schurrle and striker Fernando Torres produced a turnaround in Chelsea's favour. The result means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's already-relegated side finish bottom of the table, two points behind Fulham. Chelsea end the campaign in third spot, four points adrift of champions Manchester City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made two changes to his side after the 3-0 defeat at Newcastle last time out confirmed Cardiff's relegation. Bellamy and Mats Moeller Daehli replaced Bo-Kyung Kim and Wilfried Zaha. After the 0-0 draw at home to Norwich last Sunday, Jose Mourinho made six changes to Chelsea's starting line-up. Jose backed Eden Hazard the very next day: “He had a good season, an improvement, he was brought to a different level of performance and understanding of the game." “For example, his performance at Manchester City was very complete. He’s a young guy and his evolution is fine." “Does he still make mistakes? Of course he does. It was the first time in his life he played a Champions League semi-final, it’s a career that is only starting."

EPL Best PlayerS ACCORDING TO STATISTIC 10) Yaya Toure - Manchester City - 7.52 rating It's no surprise to see the Ivorian powerhouse make the list, as the midfielder has enjoyed a wonderful goalscoring campaign. Deployed in a deep-lying central midfield position, Toure's notched 16 goals, making him the league's third highest scorer. 9) Fernandinho - Manchester City - 7.63 rating Fernandinho has arguably not been heralded as much as his performances have deserved since his big money summer arrival. He regularly makes tackles and interceptions at the base of midfield, and his work rate is equally superb. 8) Wayne Rooney - Manchester United - 7.64 rating Rooney has been the shining light in United's miserable season, scoring 13 goals and assisting ten more, earning himself a ludicrous £300k-per-week contract in the process. 7) Daniel Sturridge - Liverpool - 7.67 rating The Liverpool striker has formed a wonderful attacking partnership with Luis Suarez up top, and the pair have scored an outrageous 47 goal ...
2014 Getty Images Arsene Wenger endured a woeful 1,000th match in charge of Arsenal as Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea romped to a 6-0 win at Stamford Bridge. The Frenchman has never tasted victory over Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and that record continued on Saturday as Arsenal were taken apart easily. Samuel Eto'o and Andre Schurrle capitalised on poor defending to put the hosts two goals ahead inside seven minutes. Things soon got worse for Arsenal as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain handled on the line after 15 minutes to concede a penalty that Eden Hazard converted. Before the kick was taken Kieran Gibbs was sent off. Oscar added further goals either side of half-time and substitute Mohamed Salah also got in on the act to round off Arsenal’s poor day. Arsenal sit seven points behind Chelsea having played a match fewer, and their performance continued a worrying trend this season in away matches against title rivals. Wenger's side had suffered 6-3 and 5-1 defeats at the hands of Manchester City and ...
Chelsea pull clear, Man Utd bounce back 08 Mar 2014 22:01:59 Quick-fire goals by Samuel Eto'o and Eden Hazard inspired Chelsea to a 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday that sent them seven points clear in the Premier League. Eto'o put Chelsea ahead in the 56th minute and Hazard added a penalty four minutes later after Younes Kaboul had been sent off for a foul on Eto'o. Demba Ba added a late brace. Eto'o's opener was gifted to him by Jan Vertonghen and both of Ba's goals also stemmed from errors, as Spurs' 23-year wait for victory at Stamford Bridge went on. Chelsea now lead Liverpool and Arsenal by seven points, but both teams have a game in hand, while fourth-place Manchester City, who are nine points off the pace, have three fixtures to fulfil. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho continued to play down his side's title chances, saying: "I would prefer to be in Man City's position, because they have three matches in hand. "We don't have control of our destiny. If we win all our matches, then maybe we a ...

Daniel Sturridge: 'Raheem Sterling will only get better' Daniel Sturridge has backed Raheem Sterling to "get better" as he continues to play first-team football with the club. Andre Schurrle's second half hat-trick kept Chelsea's Premier League title bid on course with a 3-1 win at Fulham but Arsenal's season edged closer to despair following a controversial 1-0 defeat at Stoke. Both title contenders knew they could steal a march on Manchester City, with Manuel Pellegrini's side missing Premier League action due to the Capital One Cup final. But neither side initally looked up to the task with Chelsea, in particular, appearing hungover from their midweek European exertions. However, following a drab first-half the Blues sparked into life thanks in no small part to the mecurial talents of Eden Hazard. The Belgian set up Schurrle's first two strikes, dinking the ball over the top for the German to finish off. But it was the second which was a beauty as a smartly disguised pass freed the winger to finish easily. And the 23-year-old completed his 16 minute hat-trick when he raced onto a route one ball with the Fulham defence at sixes and sevens to put the ball beyond Maarten Stekel ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho absolved Eden Hazard of any blame for their FA Cup defeat at Manchester City...
Vanguard FA Cup : Man City defeat Chelsea 2-0 on February 15, 2014 / in Sports 8:33 pm MANCHESTER – Stevan Jovetic and Samir Nasri scored as Manchester City reached the FA Cup quarter-finals with a potentially significant 2-0 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. City manager Manuel Pellegrini had been outdone by Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho in the two league meetings between the clubs this season, both of which ended in victories for the London side. But a convincing FA Cup win redressed the balance, especially as the important second goal was scored by Nasri within moments of the fit-again Frenchman’s introduction by the City manager. Given the war of words between the rival managers in the wake of Chelsea’s 1-0 league win at the Etihad last week, it was no surprise that the game opened in cagey fashion. James Milner was charged with nullifying Chelsea’s chief playmaker Eden Hazard, with Nemanja Matic performing a similar task on City’s Yaya Toure. But the tie opened ...
Eden Hazard: Picked up a worse WhoScored rating vs Manchester City today (6.36) than he has in any other game for Chelsea th…
Manchester City will throw everything at Chelsea, says Manuel A defiant Manuel Pellegrini is intent on Manchester City again attacking Chelsea in Saturday's FA Cup tie despite José Mourinho's side winning the recent league meeting by hitting them on the break. Samir Nasri should start in the fifth-round match at the Etihad Stadium following a month out with an injured knee. Chelsea won the previous game 1-0 with Mourinho's successful use of the counterattack leading to criticism of Pellegrini, whose side appeared too open, with City's manager deploying the central defender Martín Demichelis in a holding midfield role. City were particularly exposed by the pace of Eden Hazard, yet Pellegrini does not plan to change his philosophy. "Why? Because I am absolutely sure that in the previous game it was not a problem with tactics," said the Chilean. "The squad had a lot of changes and we had three or four clear chances before they scored. If we'd scored we could have scored again." Chelsea won with a rare goal ...
Jose Mourinho is ready to risk an FA Cup embarrassment at Manchester City on Saturday as he targets the Premier League title. After losing calf-injury victim Gary Cahill for Chelsea's second trip to the Etihad in 12 days, Mourinho is weighing up giving his centre-back partner and skipper John Terry extra time off to ensure he is fit for their next league game, at home to Everton on February 22, and the Champions League trip to Galatasaray four days later. Terry, who had played every minute of this Premier League season until he sat out the weekend win over Newcastle, was badly missed on Tuesday as the Blues let two vital points slip at West Brom. The Chelsea skipper is keen to return to action after what Mourinho has described as a "double muscle injury" sustained in training last Friday. But the Portuguese is aware that a recurrence of the injury against City, or rushing the 33-year-old to get him back, could lead to a longer absence at a pivotal point in the season. Mourinho is also keen to give Ashley C ...
Among the three premiership players namely Eden Hazard from Chelsea, Lius Suarez from Liverpool and Yaya Toure from Manchester City. Which player deserve to be crown as Best Player of the season
Liverpool Rip Arsenal To Shreds As Chelsea Go Top David Sun, 09 Feb 2014 21:17:08 +0 Liverpool produced one of the best opening 20 minutes I am have ever seen to blow away Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday and give their own title hopes a shot in the arm. Brendan Rodgers’ side scored four goals before Arsenal knew what had hit them. Liverpool attacked Arsenal from the opening whistle and were two up inside ten minutes thanks to two goals from defender Martin Skrtel, the first after just 52 seconds. England strikers Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge made it 4-0 with less than a quarter of the match played and Arsenal were lucky that was all they were down as Liverpool could easily have scored five or six in that opening period. Arsenal’s thrashing gave Chelsea and Manchester City a chance to leapfrog the Gunners in the table and Chelsea did just that beating Newcastle 3-0 thanks to an Eden Hazard hat-trick. It’s been a good week for Jose Mourinho’s side as he has seen them pick up five points on Ma ...

Hazard is the Premier League's in-form player On Monday evening, Eden Hazard was one of various Chelsea players who shone, but his mazy dribbles weren’t quite effective enough to provide a decisive moment in the 1-0 victory over Manchester City. He was merely one of three effective midfield runners, each providing a different type of speed . On Saturday, Hazard was the main man. Oscar was back in the side, and Willian also played to ensure Chelsea had three "pure" attacking midfielders behind Samuel Eto'o (rather than two plus Ramires, who was rested having played more minutes this season than any other Chelsea outfielder). But there was only one man leading the charge. Hazard didn’t just drift inside and shoot repeatedly, he drifted across the width of the pitch, interchanging with Willian and Oscar freely, in a manner reminiscent of the tactics briefly deployed by Roberto Di Matteo at the start of last season. - Lythell: Chelsea hit top gear as rivals falter Everywhere the Belgian went, he was a thr ...
A dramatic Arsenal defeat at Anfield allowed Eden Hazard to step up to the plate and grab his first hat trick in Chelsea blue, as Chelsea cruised past Alan Pardew’s Newcastle side with a 3-0 victory. After a world-class performance on Monday night against Manchester City, all eyes were on Eden Hazard and Chelsea to see if they can recreate the form that has made many believe they are still well in the mix for the title. Newcastle on the other hand were looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 thrashing at home to local rivals Sunderland, and had only won once in their last six prior to this. John Terry was ruled out with a minor muscle strain, making him miss his first Premier League minutes of the season, whilst Jose didn’t want to risk Fernando Torres, who is now back in training. Newcastle had top scorer Loic Remy ruled out through suspension and Cheick Tiote sidelined with a hamstring injury. Yohan Cabaye’s recent departure to PSG didn’t help matters for the Magpies, as 56% of Newcastle ...
PREVIEW Chelsea v Newcastle; Premier League | Stamford Bridge | Sat 8 Feb | 3pm Billed as After inspiring his charges to beat the world's best away from home, can Jose Mourinho do the same at Stamford Bridge against a mid-table club in turmoil? The lowdown Selling their double player of the year to Manchester United; benching Ashley Cole in favour of a right-back; recalling a Serbian for £17 million more than the club sold him for – whichever eyebrow-raising decisions the Chelsea manager makes, the response from the Blues faithful is unequivocal after Monday night’s win at Manchester City: "In Jose we trust". Manchester City showed a tactical naivety heading into their home clash against fellow Premier League challenging Chelsea on Monday, February 3 at the Etihad Stadium as they played 'right into Jose Mourinho's hands'. That is the view of Joey Barton, 31, a defensive shield currently employed by Queens Park Rangers and formerly of Newcastle United and City, who added that Mourinho's utilisation of a counter-attack policy, combined with the superb displays returned by Nemanja Matic, David Luiz and Eden Hazard, were the differences in what was a convincing win for Chelsea, who now have amassed the same points haul as the side they defeated last night. Defender Branislav Ivanovic struck the game's sole goal - a powerful first half shot struck from outside the box with his weaker foot and Chelsea even threatened throughout the second half to double their lead. There was an emerging opinion in the press that Mourinho may adopt precisely the same tactic he so abhorred West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce using ag . ...
Man City vs Celsea (Beakdown Analysis) Branislav Ivanovic scored the only goal as Chelsea ended Manchester City's Premier League home run with a 1-0 victory. City had won their previous 11 league fixtures at the Etihad this season - and had scored at least in their last 61, stretching back to November 2010 - but their fortress was raided by their title rivals on Monday night. Jose Mourinho masterminded a narrow success that drew his Blues side level with City on 53 points - two behind leaders Arsenal - with 14 games left to play. Chelsea were unfortunate not to win by a larger margin. After Ivanovic lashed the visitors in front from the edge of the area on 32 minutes, they hit the woodwork three times through Samuel Eto'o, Nemanja Matic and Gary Cahill. David Silva threatened to *** an equaliser as City pushed hard in the final stages, but Manuel Pellegrini could have few complaints about the result on a night when Chelsea displayed discipline and no shortage of skill, with Eden Hazard their stand-out ...
That's right, who says Manchester City can't be beaten at home, epic performance, shut out, bamboozled, suffocated, strangulated, rewrite the record books folks,we are the pride and joy of English football folks. They claim we are a defensive side, notorious for " Parking the Bus" well, you saw a different team, attacking Manchester City with surgical precision and flare. Eden Hazard, toyed with Zabaleta like a schoolboy. The defense of Chelsea, what can we say, magnificent, resilient, fearful, tactically sound that the freely scoring City were invincible. Peter Cech, menacing, coming up huge when it mattered. Up next, Arsenal will be slaughtered like a thanksgiving turkey folks...
Manchester City v Chelsea: Jose Mourinho will defend in numbers and set Eden Hazard free whenever possible Defend deep and in numbers, stifle City's threat, before springing forward using Eden Hazard's great pace, that's how Alan Smith sees Chelsea dealing with goal- crazy opponents Unlike Tottenham on Wednesday, Chelsea surely won't leave the back four exposed by failing to offer enough midfield protection. Jose Mourinho, of course, is a master at this. He will come with a gameplan that involves trying to deny the likes of David Silva any time or space in the final third. In this regard, it will be interesting to see who Mourinho picks to carry out those strict orders. New-boy Nemanja Matic is certainly an option, as is John Obi Mikel. But whoever gets the nod, they look set to play a very disciplined game. In terms of timing his runs, there isn't a better overlapping full-back than Pablo Zabaleta. The Argentine's appreciation of when to make his move and when to stay put is unrivalled in the Premier Lea ...
TEAM NEWS & LATE Fitness check : Manchester City v Chelsea Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Sergio Aguero is out for a month, so Edin Dzeko will be expected to partner the returning Alvaro Negredo. The rest of the side picks itself, with a midfield of Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure, Fernandinho and David Silva and a defence featuring Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis. The only question mark is who gets the nod between Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov, with Kolarov favourite after Clichy started at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. Chelsea will be without Fernando Torres, so Samuel Eto'o will start at the Etihad. It seems unlikely Jose Mourinho will do any rotating, so expect to see the strongest line-up available. This could mean a start for Matic in midfield alongside Ramires, with Oscar, Eden Hazard and Willian supporting Eto'o. West Brom v Liverpool West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka has been ruled out with a knee injury, and will not feature against one of his former sides. ...
has delighted the fans of Manchester City with the signing of Eden Hazard.
Arsenal will finish 2013 on top of the Premier League following their hard-fought victory at St James’ Park. Chelsea came from behind to win what was arguably the best game of the weekend, thanks to goals from Eden Hazard and Samuel Eto’o inflicting a second defeat in four days on Liverpool, who lost to Manchester City on Thursday. Manchester United continued their good run of results by defeating Norwich 1-0 at Carrow Road, this time without Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie While their neighbors, Manchester City, maintained their excellent home form with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. Everton moved to fourth with a 2-1 win over Southampton at Goodison. Here is BBC’s Garth Crooks's Team of the Week: Joe Hart, Maynor Figueroa, Nemanja Vidic, Per Mertesacker, Seamus Coleman, Tom Huddlestone, Mathew Flamini, Fernandinho, Eden Hazard, Nicholas Anelka, Romelu Lukaku.
Top 5: Most important Premier League players in 2013/14 5) Adam Lallana (Southampton) What a great player he has been this season; Lallana has proved to be an all rounded player producing some moments of magic including his superb solo goal against Hull City in November. The Englishman has blossomed so far in the campaign, and could even have a bright future for the England national team. Goals: 4 Assists: 5 4) Eden Hazard (Chelsea) Seems obvious that Jose Mourinho has an immense amount of faith in the Belgian, who is a frequent starter in the Premier League. Chelsea haven’t played attractive football in the Mourinho era yet, however it is fair to say Hazard has adapted to the side very well this season, with a slew of attacks on the left flank and quick acceleration to beat defenders. The 22-year-old is simply flourishing under Mourinho this season. Goals: 7 Assists: 7 3) Yaya Toure (Manchester City) The title favourites Manchester City are unstoppable at the moment, as they are still unbeaten at home ...
Manchester United are pondering a move for Porto left-back Alex Sandro, 22, as a long-term successor to Patrice Evra. Arsenal and Manchester City are monitoring Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, 32, as the Spaniard continues to find himself marginalised at the Bernabeu. Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Inter Milan for Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin, 27. Paris St-Germain are considering an ambitious triple swoop for Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, 22, Juventus' midfielder Paul Pogba, 20, and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, 20. Manchester United and Liverpool could miss out on Porto midfielder Fernando, 26, as the Brazilian targets a move to Italy. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says the club have received no bids for Arsenal and Manchester United midfield target Angel Di Maria, 25, despite the player's agent admitting huge interest in his client.     Luis Suarez dazzles for Liverpool with four-goal game  TOBY DAVIS, REUTERSFIRST POSTED : WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 04, 2013 05:51 PM EST UPDATED : WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 04, 2013 05:56 PM EST     LONDON - Liverpool's Luis Suarez led a one-man demolition of Norwich City with four goals in a 5-1 win and Arsenal's forgotten man Nicklas Bendtner netted for the Premier League leaders as they beat Hull City 2-0 on Wednesday.   There was no happy reunion for Manchester United manager David Moyes against former club Everton as the Merseysiders won 1-0 at Old Trafford and Sunderland boss Gus Poyet was also left disappointed against his former club Chelsea.   Eden Hazard scored twice for Jose Mourinho's second-placed side as they edged a seven-goal tussle with Sunderland 4-3 and Aston Villa ended Southampton's unbeaten home record with a 3-2 win.   Manchester City welcomed back captain Vincent Kompany after two months out and he helped his side improve their patchy away record by beating West Bromwich Albio ...
The five biggest Premier League wins - Manchester City games miss out After City's 7-0 and 6-0 thumpings of Norwich and Tottenham in their last two home games, a look at the highest margins of victory since the league began, also featuring Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle. Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City may be struggling away from home but at the Etihad they are scoring for fun. 13 goals in their last two fixtures is impressive but their margins of victory are still not enough to put them in top five highest winning scorelines. So what makes the list? Chelsea 8-0 Aston Villa (23rd December 2012) – Rafael Benitez’s side saw Christmas come early when they thumped Villa at Stamford Bridge last season. Fernando Torres, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic put them three ahead by half-time. Frank Lampard made it four with a Ramires double, Oscar’s penalty and Eden Hazard completing the rout. Lucas Piazon also missed a penalty which would have put them at the top of the list. Chelsea 8-0 Wigan A ...
Gara amichevole Belgio Colombia Info: Belgium vs. Colombia: Preview and TV schedule Both Belgium and Colombia have been extremely impressive in their respective World Cup qualification campaigns, and meet in a friendly on Thursday having ensured their places at Brazil 2014. There may not be anything but pride at stake, but that doesn't mean this game will be boring. These sides boast some of the best attacking talent around at the moment, meaning we should see plenty of goals. Belgium's mean attack should be spearheaded by Romelu Lukaku and orchestrated by Eden Hazard, while Colombia's Radamel Falcao will enjoy feeding off the ever-exciting midfield trio of James Rodríguez, Fredy Guarín and Juan Cuadrado. Belgium will be without Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany through injury, while fellow centre-back Thomas Vermaelen is in doubt. MATCH REPORT: Eto'o robs Hildebrand and grabs a second to leave the Blues on brink of knockout stages...Chelsea 3 - Schalke 0 Perhaps someone stirred the spirit of Peter Osgood, the legendary striker who died seven years ago and is interred beneath the penalty spot at the Shed End. Is Ossie back to help in a time of need? Certainly something is spooking out the goalkeepers in that penalty area. First there was Cardiff's David Marshall, who was robbed of the ball by Samuel Eto'o as the goalkeeper bounced it and prepared to kick from his hands. Then there was Joe Hart's rush of blood and communication breakdown, which presented Chelsea with a late win and cost the England goalkeeper his place in the Manchester City team. We can add to that list Timo Hildebrand, Schalke keeper and German international, who was also out-witted by Eto'o. Chelsea had been misfiring for half an hour when Hildebrand rolled the ball out before him and casually surveyed the 21 other players on the pitch. Or at least he surveyed som ...
Saturday's Premier League matches Newcastle v Chelsea We say: Away win Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini is unlikely to make it as he continues his recovery from injury. The Argentina international is back in training after a groin problem but has no football under his belt, while fellow central defender Steven Taylor, who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in training last week, is still some way from returning. Left-back Paul Dummett, who partnered Mike Williamson in the 2-1 defeat at Sunderland last weekend, is also out with a hamstring strain, meaning Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa are likely to pair up, as they did in midweek for the Capital One Cup tie against Manchester City. Jose Mourinho is poised to recall a host of first-team players. The Blues boss made 10 changes for the midweek Capital One Cup win at Arsenal so the likes of Petr Cech, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Fernando Torres are set to return. Mourinho reported no new injury concerns so Mar ...
Capital One Cup: Chelsea Reduces Arsenal’s Title Hopes as United Proceeds Into Last Eight. The duo of Cesar Azpliqueta and Juan Mata scored to help Chelsea knock out Arsenal from the English League Cup on Tuesday as Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez grabbed a brace for Manchester United in the 4-0 thrashing of Norwich City. Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho had expressed dissatisfaction with the club’s tight fixtures schedule, having played two of English football giants- Manchester City on Sunday and then Arsenal- in the space of three days, but the Portuguese, as promised, rang out ten changes to the side that defeated City at Stamford Bridge with only Garry Cahill keeping his place. Despite resting the likes of Andre Schurrle, Fernando Torres, Eden Hazard, Spaniard Mata made his sixth start of the season and stood out all through as Chelsea dominated the ‘Gunners’ at their Emirate Stadium home- largely due to a superior squad strength. John Mikel Obi and Mikael Essien bossed the midfield while Willia ...
Chelsea vs Manchester City:Match Preview Date/Time:Sunday, October 27, 2013, 16:00 GMT; 12pm EDT; 9:30pm IST Venue: Stamford Bridge, SW6 Refree: Howard Webb Chelsea squad news: Ashley Cole has been deemed fully fit, which means that Marco Van Ginkel is the only player unavailable for selection (despite that ominous icepack on Schürrle's ankle on Tuesday). Meanwhile, both Torres & Eto'o seem to have found their goalscoring boots, while the defense have been pitching clean sheets with increasing regularity. Lampard & Ramires have formed a winning, if not entirely convincing partnership in the middle, while up front Eden Hazard and Oscar have been lighting it up. When the passing is accurate and the tempo is appropriate, Chelsea look very good. Manchester City squad news: Vincent Kompany is a huge loss in the heart of the visitors' defense - three goals conceded to Villa and Bayern each notwithstanding - especially given Javi Garcia's less than convincing show midweek. Then again, when your defense is scree ...
Jose Mourinho will return to his natural habitat of the Chelsea dugout on Sunday after escaping a touchline ban for his furious tirade against referee Anthony Taylor. Last Saturday Mourinho sprung to the touchline and shouted at Taylor after becoming annoyed at the referee for urging Branislav Ivanovic to hurry up and take a throw-in when he thought Cardiff had been wasting time all match. Taylor sent Mourinho to the stands, where he took in the last 20 minutes of the 4-1 win sat alongside some startled Chelsea supporters. He paid for the outburst on Thursday after he was hit with an £8,000 fine from the Football Association, but there was no touchline ban, so he will be allowed back on the bench for Chelsea’s game against Manchester City. A statement from the FA read: “Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been fined £8,000 after he admitted a breach of FA Rule E3 in that his behaviour in or around the 69th minute of his side’s game against Cardiff City on 19 October 2013 amounted to improper conduct ...
Chelsea ace Eden Hazard believes Vincent Kompany's fitness could hold the key to this weekend's Premier League clash with Manchester City."
PRE-MATCH BRIEFING: CHELSEA V Manchester CiTY - PART ONE Stamford Bridge hosts the weekend's biggest fixture with both sides back from away games in Europe. Both teams have had their difficulties but are improving rapidly on the back of better results. Stamford Bridge is a fortress again. Chelsea have won 11 and drawn two of our 13 most recent home Premier League games since QPR left Fulham Road with three points on 2 January. We have also scored 14 goals in four games and a minimum of two in nine successive top-flight games at the Bridge. Manchester City would be 14th rather than fourth if only away games were taken into account but did taste success across town at West Ham last weekend. They have the Premier League's worst recor ...

Eden Hazard sings the praises of City and Belgium captain Vincent Kompany
Eden Hazard wary of Manchester City with Vincent Kompany returning via
MATCH REPORT: SCHALKE 0 CHELSEA 3 Summary A 3-0 win in Schalke, secured courtesy of a Fernando Torres brace and a late Eden Hazard strike, saw the Blues move into top spot in Group E and record a fourth successive victory. The evening had started well, with Torres heading us in front inside the opening four minutes, but for the latter part of the first half it was Schalke looking the more threatening of the two sides. Torres, though, making his 100th start for the club, extended our advantage in the 68 th minute when he finished from close-range following excellent build-up play between Hazard and Oscar . The Belgian, after scoring twice against Cardiff at the weekend, produced a wonderful individual display, and he got the goal his performance had merited in the closing minutes when he raced clear before finishing excellently. It's now seven games unbeaten for Jose Mourinho 's men, with 19 goals scored in the process, and we head into Sunday's Premier League game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridg ...

CHELSEA NEWS! Only five blues stars are certain starters for the coming season under Jose Mourinho -Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, and Oscar. Spainish wizard, Juan Mata and Brazil defender, David Luiz are not among the five. And Fernando Torres (who is wanted at the Emirate) could also be waving farewell to the Premier League this summer. Mourinho is thought to prefer Oscar in the No.10 role supporting a main striker, believing the Brazilian poses more attacking threat than Mata. This means Mourinho wil try to bring in six players before the transfer window closes -knowing a fee within the region of £35m from Barca for David Luiz could help fund new recruits. Brazilian star Hulk of Zenit St Petersburg, Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich and AC Milan hitman El Shaarawy are all on Mourinho's wishlist -along with Manchester City's Edin Dzeko.
- In Continuation with the previous post, i would like to say; those who are asking why you are not including Thorgan Hazard into the list, Thorgan has not played for Chelsea's teams except that one off match against Manchester City which is equivalent to nothing in judging player's performance and Skills. Though i am not denying the fact that Thorgan Hazard has got more potential to be a shinning star like his brother Eden Hazard proved himself at International level. Moving on to Kevin De Bruyne; he has shown some brilliance on the pitch earlier in pre season's game with Chelsea & we also have seen him playing with Werder Bremen, could be the long term successor of Frank Lampard considering his contribution at Werder Bremen. This guy surely has a chance under Jose Mourinho this season. Then moving onto Chalobah, everyone knows how he improved himself under Gianfranco Zola at Watford, could be the future's Defensive Midfielder at Chelsea Football Club. But on the other hand if we look into Todd Kane's si ...

Messi at the top is little surprise though, what’s more interesting is the composition of the rest of the list. In the top 60, Chelsea have four entries – Romelu Lukaku, Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard. The Belgian is ranked highest – valued between €55.5m to €64.5m Hazard comes in at number four. There’s three Arsenal stars – Jack Wilshere (ranked 51), Theo Walcott (ranked 29) and Santi Cazorla (ranked 19) – two Tottenham players – Jan Vertonghen (ranked 58) and Gareth Bale (ranked nine) – five Manchester City – Joe Hart (ranked 50), Yaya Toure (ranked 45), Vincent Kompany (ranked 35), Dav ...

Rio Ferdinand admitted Manchester United had been punished for carelessness after letting a two-goal lead slip in the FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea. A 2-2 draw at Old Trafford leaves the tie unresolved with the winners to face Manchester City in the semi-final - though first they have to find a suitable day to hold the replay. Ferdinand, who could face action from the Football Association after an off-the-ball altercation with Fernando Torres, told MUTV: "We gave them the impetus to claw their way back into the game. We played some great football at times but were so careless at times. If you are careless you are going to get punished. That was the case. Manchester City will play either city rivals Manchester United or fellow Barclays Premier League giants Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals. The draw, conducted at Wembley immediately after United's 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford, pitched the eventual winners of the replay against City. Millwall and Blackburn also drew earlier in the day and will replay on Wednesday, with the winner to face Wigan. The semi-finals will be played at the national stadium over the weekend of April 13 and 14. Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez was given the first chance to respond to the eye-catching draw, but was unwilling to look any further ahead than his side's replay against United. "We have to think about the first game and, afterwards, think about City," he told ITV1. "It will be tough, will be difficult, United are a great side." Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney gave United a 2-0 lead inside 11 minutes at Old Trafford this afternoon, but well-taken second-half goals from Eden Hazard and Ramires earned Chelsea a replay. ...

Chelsea face stiff competition to sign Everton star Marouane Fellaini, with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United all considering a move for the midfielder. The Blues were heavily linked to the Belgian international during the January transfer window and, according to reports in the Daily Mail, they might now face rival bids from Europe's elite should they make another move in the summer. Fellaini was signed by Everton boss David Moyes for a club record £15million in 2008, and after five years at Goodison Park, it is believed the Belgian is keen to move in order to play Champions League football.Everton have denied Fellaini's £75,000-a-week contract includes a £24m buy-out clause, but should the Toffees fail in their bid to finish inside the top four, expect bids within this region for the midfielder.Fellaini would join a large Belgian contingent at Chelsea if he moved to Stamford Bridge, including Eden Hazard and loaned-out players Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne. The livid chants for José Mourinho to return to these parts went up just after the hour-mark of a contest that long since degenerated into a slog. Chelsea remain afloat in the Europa League, though everything about their progress into the last 16 felt unconvincing, and the crowd would not be hoodwinked that all is rosy. It took Eden Hazard's goal in stoppage time at the end to deflate Sparta Prague here. The reigning European champions should not be suffering occasions like this. Rafael Benítez might accept that much. His team were denied for so long here by the excellence of Tomas Vaclik in the visitors' goal, but that did not excuse either the profligacy of the hosts' forward line or the fragility at the back that allowed Sparta to lead for so long. They may have forced a way through into a tie against either Ajax or Steaua Bucharest on Thursday night, but Chelsea were unconvincing. Manchester City await at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Benítez's team, gasping under the weight of their fixture list a ...
MATCH REPORT: Swansea City 0 CHELSEA 0 (2-0 AGG) Posted on: Wed 23 Jan 2013 Summary There will be no early visit to Wembley this season as Chelsea were eliminated from the Capital One Cup after a goalless draw in Wales. The Blues had it all to do after a home defeat two weeks ago, and although we pressured Swansea for periods, only rarely did we look like overturning the deficit, and were dealt a late blow when Eden Hazard was dismissed following an altercation with a ballboy. In the early stages it was the home side that looked the more likely to score, Petr Cech saving well from Michu, before Chelsea's best spell saw goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel save from Hazard and Ramires before Demba Ba shot over just before half-time. After the break there were no clear-cut opportunities for Chelsea, though Ramires had a decent sight of goal and Juan Mata brought a smart save from the goalkeeper shortly before Hazard's red card brought our run to an end. It will be Manchester City, rather than Bradford City we face in ...

FA CUP REVIEW FA Cup holders Chelsea eased past Southampton 5-1 in their third-round clash at St Mary's as Demba Ba scored twice on his debut. The Saints went ahead in the 22nd minute, Jason Puncheon slipping the ball through to Jay Rodriguez who ran on to the pass. However, Ba scored 10 minutes before the break. Eden Hazard made his way down the left and threaded the ball through to Juan Mata whose shot from an acute angle was followed in by Ba. The Blues took the lead on the stroke of half-time, Ashley Cole and Victor Moses enjoying a fine exchange before the latter fired home. Chelsea all but confirmed progress with a third goal through Branislav Ivanovic who headed home Mata's cross (52). Ba made it four (61) and Frank Lampard completed the scoring with a late penalty (83). Manchester City were also never threatened as they beat Watford 3-0. Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry and debutant Marcos Lopes got the goals. The first match of the day saw an upset as Newcastle went out 2-0 to npower Championship Brigh ...
As those of you who've been reading the comments section are aware that I am more than a little bit enamoured with a certain midfielder from La Liga. No, not anyone from those teams. I have a bit of a crush, as it turns out, on Real Betis midfielder Benat Etxebarria. Because he is awesome. That makes me rather gratified to see him talked about in connection to Chelsea, even if it's only the most tenuous of strands. ESPN's Dermott Corrigan (one of the good ones) has penned a piece regarding the 25-year-old, calling him a 'Manchester City and Chelsea target'. And confirming the presence of a relatively cheap buyout clause: Benat’s clause is €20 million and he will only leave for €20 million. To sell him for anything less would be a disaster. The club must defend its position and Benat knows that. To be able to go the market and find a replacement, the only number is €20 million. He has one more year left on his contract and he can fulfill that -Real Betis coach Pepe Mel. The best comp I can come up ...

Eden Hazard is upsetting senior Chelsea teammates. The Daily Mail says Chelsea’s players had called Hazard out in the dressing room for his contribution against Shakhtar Donetsk when they squeaked a last- minute, 3-2 win in the Champions League on November 7. Some of the big boys in the Chelsea team have been unimpressed with his work-rate in recent weeks, demanding that little bit more from the Belgium star. No-one at the club doubts his class, particularly when he can point to six assists and four goals since his summer move from France. But he was again hooked yesterday by Rafa Benitez during their draw with Manchester City.
Blues hope to lure Falcao to Stamford Bridge in January. Chelsea’s hopes of landing Rademel Falcao have been boosted after Manchester City turned down the chance to bid for the Colombian striker. Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal that Atletico Madrid General Manager Migel Angel Gil Marin and Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes met with City’s new sporting director Txiki Begiristan after the champions’ 2-1 win over Spurs last week. Both men arrived at the Etihad without receiving an invitation from City and were told that Roberto Mancini’s interest in Falcao would not be firmed up with an offer. Cash-strapped Atletico were hoping that a bidding war between City and Chelsea would force up the price of a player who has a £28million release clause in his contract. City’s stance may alter if they can find a buyer for Mario Balotelli in the January transfer window. Milan giants – Inter and AC – have shown interest but City’s current position means Chelsea have no competition for a player who ...
The latest Football gossip ;) CHELSEA IN POLE POSITION FOR FALCAO It does rather seem as if the next destination of Radamel Falcao may well become something of an Eden Hazard-style circus, but the Sunday Mirror today reports that Chelsea are in the driving seat to land the striker.Man United got R.V.P..Chelsea has to get someone since Drogba left ... The paper claims that Manchester City will not be making a firm offer unless they can offload Mario Balotelli in January. A 'source close to the club' (we know, we know) told the Mirror that Manchester City would not be making a major outlay in the upcoming transfer window, leaving the path open for the Blues to match the £28million release clause. UNITED JOIN ZAHA CHASE The People today make the obvious move of Manchester United defeat + upcoming transfer window = splurge of money, claiming that Alex Ferguson will aim to bring Wilfried Zaha to Old Trafford in January. According to the paper, Ferguson sees Zaha as a Cristiano Ronaldo-style attacker, and has ...
Poor defending upsets Di Matteo 17 November 2012 22:34 Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo labelled his team's defending 'poor' after their 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Goals from Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie helped West Brom to their sixth home win of the season after Eden Hazard had equalised for the visitors at the Hawthorns. Di Matteo rued his side's defensive display after the loss, which saw Chelsea's winless run in the English Premier League extended to four. "It's a ground we find difficult to win at – both last season and this season. We know that they are very good at home," he said. "Given the way that we conceded goals like we did today, then it becomes difficult to win the game. "You have to score three goals to win the game. Our defending was poor today. We didn't concede many chances to them, but the ones we did, we had to do better." Chelsea could yet find it difficult to return to winning ways in November with league matches against Manchester City and Fulham – both ...
Drogba, who now plays for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, has been shortlisted for World Player of the Year for scoring the equalising goal in the final, before dispatching the winning spot-kick in the penalty shootout. The Ivorian has fierce competition for the award - Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have all been nominated as well as Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure.

Chelsea and Manchester City are going head-to-head for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao. The Sunday Express says the Colombian savaged Chelsea in the European Super Cup final in Monaco two months ago – an embarrassing night witnessed by Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich. From that moment he has made the signing of the 26-year-old a cash-no-object priority. But so have Premier League champions City whose manager Roberto Mancini has vetted the red hot striker this season. Mancini was left frustrated when Chelsea beat his club to the signing of gifted Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard. He doesn’t want the same scenario over Falcao, who has helped his team outshine neighbours Real Madrid in La Liga this season.
Despite the headline signings of Eden Hazard to Chelsea, Robin van Perise to Manchester United, and Luka Modric to Real Madrid, it's Paris Saint Germain who have made the biggest splash in the 2012 summer transfer market. The Ligue 1 club secured the signatures of three of the ten most expensive players during the recent window, which closed for business on Friday evening, not to reopen again until January. Brazilian attacking midfielder Lucas Moura - another player bound for the French capital - was actually the biggest deal negotiated this window, with €45 million set to change hands between PSG and Sao Paulo. But, with the 19-year-old playmaker arriving in January, the transfer will count towards the 2013 mid-season window. In ascending order, GiveMeFootball lists the top ten most expensive summer signings: 10. Zlatan Ibrahimovic | AC Milan to PSG | £16m 9. Santi Cazorla | Malaga to Arsenal | £16m 8. Javi Garcia | Benfica to Manchester City | £16m 7. Ezequiel Lavezzi | Napoli to PSG | £24m 6. Rob ...

Manchester City are aiming to complete the signing of Inter Milan defender Maicon and Benfica's Javi Garcia before the transfer deadline. Brazil's Maicon, 31, is available for around £5m and boss Roberto Mancini wants him as cover for Pablo Zabaleta. The £24m-rated Garcia has become a possible new target after Mancini's main midfield target, Daniele De Rossi, decided to stay at Roma. Fiorentina defender Matija Nastasic is also set to sign for City on Friday. The Serbian teenager will cost the Premier League champions around £12m - with Stefan Savic going in the opposite direction to Italy. Swansea's Scott Sinclair should also confirm a £6.2m deal with City on Friday. Mancini insisted City faced a busy five days in the market after the 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Sunday and they have responded as the deadline approaches. City signed Everton's Jack Rodwell in a £12m deal but decided against pursuing deals for Robin Van Persie, who went to Manchester United for £24m, and Eden Hazard, the Belgium internati ...
Just over three months after Chelsea were crowned European champions, we will discover how we begin our defence of the title when the group stage draw takes place in Monaco this afternoon (Thursday). The scheduled start of the draw is at 4.45pm UK time, with the Chelsea squad in the principality ahead of the Super Cup match the following evening. When it comes to the Champions League draw, we will take our place in the Pot 1 containing the eight top-seeded teams which means no rematch with Bayern Munich nor Barcelona at this stage of the competition. We will also be kept away from Spanish and Portuguese champions Real Madrid and Porto, and Italian runners-up AC Milan who are also in Pot 1. Instead the Serie A champions Juventus are potential group stage opponents as they are in Pot 2 containing the next eight highest seeds. Manchester City, as a fellow English club, cannot be drawn in the same group as Chelsea, which leaves six other possibilities. A draw against Benfica would pit us against our quarter-f ...

Hazard was subjected to some tough treatment in the 3-2 defeat by Manchester City at Villa Park and then found himself thrust into a defensive role after the dismissal of Branislav Ivanovic, before being substituted. “I’ve already found what I came for in England – beautiful stadium, beautiful pitch, big atmosphere and a very competitive match,” he said. “Beyond the result, I am happy with that first test. I felt at ease. It’s very fast and I believe it’s a perfect style of play for my qualities. I’m here to play these very intense games. In France, it could be intense during 10 or 15 minutes but the matchcan be very quiet during the next 10 or 15 minutes. Here, it is always at the maximum. “I was stopped sometimes by big tackles, but people have always tried to stop me playing hard. But when it’s fair like that it’s OK. “The ...

Chelsea boss Di Matteo: Don't expect too much from Hazard Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is keen to keep down expectations around £32m signing Eden Hazard. Hazard will attempt to outshine Manchester City equivalent David Silva at Villa Park in today's Community Shield. Di Matteo said: “He’s a good player but let’s not forget he’s young and is coming fresh into the Premier League. In training he has already shown glimpses of his qualities. It’s exciting.”
new campaign a week away, Roberto Di Matteo believes now is the time to look forward and focus on the future, rather than dwell on past achievements. The Blues take on Manchester City later today in the Community Shield at Villa Park in a match which pits last season's title winners against the team who lifted both the FA Cup and Champions League, but while the Italian is understandably proud of what his squad achieved over the course of an eventful three-month period, he believes it counts for very little going into the new season. 'We all knew it was a fresh start when we returned to pre-season,' said the Chelsea manager. 'We had some good experiences together last season and hopefully there will be more. 'It's part of the past, done and dusted. It's a new start with new challenges; it will be difficult as everybody will raise their game against us.' An already talented squad has been bolstered by the arrival of attacking talent in the form of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Marko Marin. Somewhat predictably, th ...

You need to ask Brian Marwood," said Mancini. "I am not the sporting director. I can't say anything about players.

Wenger hits out at reckless spending of rivals as he warns of financial doom Arsene Wenger has once again warned against the inevitable financial ruin faced by football and taken a swipe at rivals Manchester City and Chelsea. The Frenchman, who has long fought against cash inequality in the game, believes the vast wealth foreign investors have poured into their respective clubs has damaged football and the transfer market. Wenger is continuing to strengthen his own squad at a level below the likes of Chelsea, who have already lavished £32million on Eden Hazard and £25million on teenager Oscar. The Gunners, meanwhile, have added Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud for a combined £23m. But while pointing to the vast income generated by Emirates Stadium, compared with Stamford Bridge and Etihad Stadium, Wenger claimed the unlimited resources of others have had a negative impact on the game. Man Utd discuss sensational double raid on Spurs for Modric, Bale Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up a sensational double raid on Tottenham for Luka Modric and Gareth Bale. Barcelona and Real Madrid are both admirers of Bale, while Ferguson and Manchester City's Roberto Mancini would also be expected to enter the bidding if given the slightest indication that he wants out. United are in the market for top class attacking options having tried and failed to land Eden Hazard. Bale was not expected to figure prominently in United's transfer business this summer, but they could be prompted into action if he looks set to move on. Right now any article suggesting Manchester United are better than Manchester City in any way is going to look like clutching at straws. But a week is a long time in football. When United had an eight-point lead, most pundits agreed they had the title sown up. Now, we're reading articles about City dominating for a decade or more. But that's Goal.com for you... Forty-four years of failure can't be wiped away in one season, but the hurt has been relieved. By the same token, United have been here before, and they've knocked Liverpool off their perch and recovered from the surges of Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal and Chelsea. Why shouldn't it be the same with City? Remember, United came second with the highest points total ever. One mistake against Vincent Kompany (who, by the way, has been outstanding) or a seven-minute collapse against Everton was all the difference. Rome Wasn't Built in a Day Roberto Mancini was a fine player with 733 appearances for Bologna, Sampdoria and Lazio. He is also a fin ...
