Three mistakes in Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal's philosophy The 3-5-2 Conundrum The formation that never ticked for the Red Devils. After the draw against Burnley at Turf Moor, Van Gaal shunned the 3-5-2 formation which never looked like working with a team who have been accustomed to playing 4-4-2. After a run of 11 undefeated matches, Van Gaal has returned to his beloved formation and the problems have creeped in slowly. Natural wingers taking on full backs is a lost art now. More often than not it’s full backs versus full backs. Manchester City play with full backs who maraud opponents defences and provide support to their attacking players. Even Chelsea and Southampton do it. In today’s world, players on the flanks regularly cut inside and provide more creativity to the team rather than delivering crosses and taking on defenders (take the case of David Silva). The fullbacks spend more time on the opponent's half than their own as it seems as if they have taken over the jobs of wingers. ...
Manchester City vs Crystal Palace (Etihad Stadium) Team news Manchester City Manchester City have no frontline strikers nor their captain Vincent Kompany available for the visit of Crystal Palace in the Barclays Premier League. Forwards Sergio Aguero (knee), Stevan Jovetic (hamstring) and Edin Dzeko (calf) could all be out until the New Year while defender and skipper Kompany (hamstring) faces a similar lay-off. Teenage striker Jose Angel Pozo, who made his first start against Leicester last week, could get another chance or the likes of James Milner, Samir Nasri or David Silva might play in a more advanced role. Prediction: English Premier League / Manchester City VS Sunderland -- Match Time:1/1/2015 23:00 Thursday -- More detail...paper this one looks a mismatch as Manchester City play host to Sunderland at the Ethiad. Manchester City though threw away a 2-0 lead against Burnley on Sunday to draw the game 2-2. That was probably the biggest shock of the festive period and showed that even the best of teams are capable of slip ups. WIth Manchester City going through something of an injury crisis the team is missin Aguero, Dzeko and Jovetich leaving no fit strikers in the squad. David Silva has stepped up scoring in the last three games, Ya Ya Toure has also been brilliant during this time. Jovetich was fit enough to come on Sunday for thirty minutes but is obviously not fit. Manchester City will be looking to get the win here and put pressure on Chelsea who dont play until 17.30 on Thursday. Premier League round-up Manchester City wasted the chance to close within a point of Premier League leaders Chelsea as Burnley fought back to claim a famous 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium. City looked to be in cruise control when they led 2-0 at half-time, knowing Chelsea had already failed to win, with David Silva firing them into the lead on 23 and Fernandinho smashing home a second 10 minutes later. But they were undone by a superb second-half fightback by Sean Dyche's side, who got back into the game two minutes after the break when George Boyd glanced the ball home, seemingly from an offside position. The Clarets continued to press and could have equalised a couple of times before Ashley Barnes sensationally lashed the ball into the top corner nine minutes from time. Earlier, Chelsea’s winning run came to an end at St Mary’s where they were held to a 1-1 draw by an under-strength Southampton, who also had Morgan Schneiderlin sent off in the closing minutes. Sadio Mane put the Saints in front on 1 ...

EPL ROUND UP Chelsea maintained top spot on the Barclays Premier League table thanks to a 2-0 home win over West Ham United on Boxing Day. The Blues recorded their 14th victory of the campaign to stay three points clear of second-placed Manchester City thanks to goals from John Terry and Diego Costa either side of the break. Captain Terry netted his second goal in as many matches when he slotted home Costa’s knockdown header in the 32nd minute before the Spanish striker grabbed his 13th of the season in the 61st minute when finishing across goal with his left foot after a dazzling run. Reigning champions City kept up pace with Chelsea by putting in a commanding performance at West Bromwich Albion to win 3-1. First-half goals from Fernando (first for the club), Yaya Toure (penalty) and David Silva gave Manuel Pellegrini’s side the advantage before a first Premier League goal for record signing Brown Ideye pulled one back for the Baggies late. West Brom 1-3 Manchester City: Fernando, Yaya Toure and David Silva strike in comfortable victory over Baggies
Yaya Toure shrugged off John Terry's claim the title-race pressure is all on Manchester City by leading Manuel Pellegrini's men to a 3-1 victory at West Brom. Chelsea captain Terry said "it's going to be tough" for his side's rivals to stay close to the pacesetters after the Blues took a temporary six-point Premier League lead with a 2-0 victory over West Ham. Terry also said Chelsea's early Boxing Day kick-off and ninth consecutive Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge heaped the pressure on second-placed City. Toure and company had other ideas however, the Ivorian netting a penalty to send City 2-0 up in just 13 minutes at The Hawthorns following Fernando's opener. David Silva added City's third goal in the first half, before the visitors shut up shop to coast home after the turnaround despite Brown Ideye netting for West Brom late on. The Etihad Stadium side stretched their winning run to nine games in all competitions, and seven in the Premier League. Terry's header and Diego Costa's 13th goal of ...

David Silva gives Manchester City win over Crystal Palace, Manchester United held by Aston Villa: David Silva sparkled for Manchester City with two goals in a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace that wiped out Chelsea's lead at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday and added festive spice to the title race. Manchester United's pursuit of the table-toppers stalled with a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, their first dropped points in seven games, as local rivals City came through an encounter with Palace that threatened to turn into a frustrating occasion. Silva eased an increasingly tense atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium when he broke the deadlock shortly after halftime and then put an efficient victory to bed with his second goal soon after. Yaya Toure emphatically smashed home a late third. The victory for City, who are having to cope without all their main strikers through injury, moved them level on 39 points with Chelsea, who visit Stoke City on Monday, and ignited a title battle that had looked to be a one ...

Nasri writes his name into Manchester City folklore COMMENT: The Frenchman smashed an unstoppable shot from 25 yards beyond Morgan De Sanctis before setting up Pablo Zabaleta to seal a famous win for Manuel Pellegrini's men Dec 11, 2014 00:45:00By Liam Twomey As Manchester City took to the Stadio Olympico pitch for their date with destiny, Manuel Pellegrini knew he would need a new hero. Only twice since Sergio Aguero’s arrival from Atletico Madrid in July 2011 had City started a football match without any of Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, David Silva or their Argentine superstar. On both occasions – at the Etihad against West Brom in the Premier League in May last year and Blackburn in the FA Cup in January – they had won, but Rudi Garcia’s Roma on home turf were always going to present a starkly different challenge. Such are the resources available to Pellegrini that City still boasted arguably the stronger XI on paper but, as the Premier League champions have repeatedly found to their cost in Eur ...
Joe Hart due to sign new Manchester City contract Richard Jolly December 5, 2014 MANCHESTER -- Joe Hart is set to sign a new contract with Manchester City imminently. The goalkeeper, whose current deal expires in 2016, has been in talks with the Premier League champions for several months about an extension. And manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed he expects the 27-year-old to give the club a boost by putting pen to paper soon. "I always said it is important for this club to keep Joe with us," Pellegrini said in a news conference. "He is a very good goalkeeper and not only a very good goalkeeper, he is a very important player for the squad also, so maybe in the next days you will have good news." Hart will become the seventh City player to sign a contract extension this year after Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. The former Birmingham loanee has made 275 appearances for City since his arrival from Shrewsbury in 2006. Pellegrini dropped Hart for a ...

Premier League round-up Southampton moved into second place in the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Stoke City at St Mary's on a bad day for champions Manchester City. Although unable to match their goal-scoring exploits from the 8-0 win over Sunderland last weekend, Ronald Koeman's side secured three points thanks to a goal from Sadio Mane. Graziano Pelle was denied a second goal by the crossbar but their stingy defence held on well and the points allowed them to leapfrog Manchester City - they are now sitting three points behind Chelsea who take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. City were beaten 2-1 by West Ham in the lunchtime kick-off, with Diafra Sakho continuing his fine scoring run as Sam Allardyce's side retained fourth place. Morgan Amalfitano gave the Hammers a 21st minute lead and Sakho scored in his sixth consecutive game to add to their lead with 15 minutes to go. Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini criticised Chelsea's "small team" mentality and said they played like Stoke City during their tense 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Much like last season's masterful 1-0 win at the same venue, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho opted to play three midfielders to negate City's array of attacking players. Ramires replaced Oscar and started alongside Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas to counter the hosts midfield which contained powerhouse Yaya Toure, the creative David Silva and the energetic pair of James Milner and Fernandinho. Pellegrini, however, was critical of Chelsea's tactics after Frank Lampard rescued a late point for the champions against his former club following Andre Schuerrle's opener. "It is not a result that I want, not what we deserved but the game was very similar to the game against Stoke," the Chilean told the BBC. "Ten players defended their own half, they scored a counter attack and they continued to defend until the end. The result is not ...
Manchester City midfielder David Silva acknowledged his side cannot afford to lose against Premier League leaders Chelsea on Sunday. Chelsea have made a blistering start to the season with four wins from as many matches, scoring 15 goals in the process. New signing Diego Costa has already bagged seven league goals - four more than any other player - and they sit five points clear of champions City ahead of the Etihad Stadium clash. And despite the early nature of the season, Silva is fully aware of the importance of avoiding defeat against Jose Mourinho's in-form men. Question: Who has a brighter chance of winning, Manchester City or Chelsea?

Pardew sees positives in loss Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew admitted that a 2-0 defeat was tough to take after an encouraging performance against Manchester City. Goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero secured victory for the Premier League champions at St James' Park, but it was an evenly contested encounter. While Newcastle did not carve out many good chances, they put City under pressure at times and there were good displays from summer signings Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere. Rolando Aarons and Ayoze Perez also impressed as substitutes and Pardew was disappointed not to take anything from the match, but had plenty of reasons to be positive. He told Sky Sports: "It was frustrating for us because in the second half we really pushed on up and put some younger players on, who were a bit naive at times but who threatened with their pace. We just couldn't get that equaliser. "I feel that if we could have got that then we could have gone on to win it because we looked li ...

PL PREVIEW FOR 17th August Newcastle - Man City 20:45 NST This is the reverse of last season's opening Barclays Premier League fixture when Newcastle United lost 0-4 at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens have won four and lost none of their last five opening weekend league fixtures, keeping four clean sheets in the process. Newcastle have won just once in the last five seasons in their opening match (D2 L2). The Magpies have failed to score in their last three Barclays Premier League clashes with Manchester City. Man City full backs Aleksandar Kolarov (7) and Pablo Zabaleta (6) assisted more goals than any other defenders in the 2013-14 Premier League. Frank Lampard is the top scoring midfielder in Premier League history with 171 goals, as many as Aguero, Dzeko, Yaya Toure, David Silva and Vincent Kompany combined. Joe Hart believes Premier League champions Manchester City have now established themselves as one of English football's superpowers. Sheikh Mansour's takeover in 2008 heralded a new era at the club, with global stars such as Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and David Silva being brought to the Etihad Stadium. Navas and Negredo AXED from Spain squad but Chelsea, Arsenal and United... Daily and Sunday Express SPAIN manager Vincente Del Bosque has ruthlessly cut Manchester City duo Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo from his 23-man World Cup squad. The decision highlights the embarrassment of riches that Spain possesses although question marks will be raised over the inclusion of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres. Torres scored just 11 goals in all competitions for Chelsea during the 2013/14 season while Negredo struck 23 times. Torres' Chelsea team-mate Cesar Azpilicueta is in the squad and other English based players will represent Spain in Brazil including Arsenal's Santi Cazorla, Manchester United's Juan Mata and Navas and Negredo's Manchester City partner David Silva. Del Bosque has decided to gamble on the fitness of Atletico Madrid's star striker Diego Costa - despite the Brazilian-born striker limping out of the Champions League final early on. Confirmed Spain 23man Squad for Brazil. Surprise, surprise... Nando makes the cut. Vincent Del Bosque has whittled his initial 30 man Spain World Cup squad down to the final 23, cutting seven players from his initial squad. Injury robbed the Spain boss of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, but an embarrassment of riches across the park means that the squad contains some notable omissions. Manchester City pair Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo both miss out, with the latter being omitted in favour of Chelsea forward Fernando Torres. At the back, Del Bosque has kept all four of his initial centre backs, but has cut two of his full backs. Liverpool target Alberto Moreno and Real Madrid full back Daniel Carvajal have both been dropped from the initial squad, with Cesar Azpilicueta staying in as cover for both full back positions. In midfield, Navas and Thiago are joined on the plane home by Bilbao’s Ander Iturraspe, while Premier League trio David Silva, Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla have all made the cu ...

EVERTON v Manchester CitY Everton captain Phil Jagielka returns to the squad after a 10-week absence with a hamstring injury. Fellow centre-back Sylvain Distin is doubtful with similar problem while on-loan Gareth Barry is unavailable against his parent club. David Silva has been named in the Manchester City squad and could feature after recovering from an ankle injury. But winger Jesus Navas, who has also been battling with an ankle injury, has been ruled out. MATCH PREVIEW Forget Liverpool. The fact that Everton success in this match could help their rivals to the title is merely an interesting aside, with the Toffees having plenty of their own reasons to finish the season strongly. Top of that list of course is Champions League qualification. Defeat at Southampton last week coupled with Arsenal's win against Newcastle has rendered it highly unlikely, but by 'going first' again, they have the chance to move back to being just one point behind the Gunners, and put a little extra pressure on their Sunday ...

Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City: Flamini helps Gunners restore some pride The visitors took the lead at Emirates Stadium courtesy of a David Silva goal although the Gunners hit back in the second half to earn a point and stop City going top By Jack Davies Mar 29, 2014 8:21:00 PM (continued) Silva's opener capped a swift counter-attacking move from City – the Spaniard tapping home from close range after Edin Dzeko had rifled an effort against the left-hand post. Flamini, whose late own goal cost Arsenal in a 2-2 draw with Swansea City on Tuesday, soon had the ball in the back of the net at the other end as a lively first-half continued, but his strike, which bounced over the head of visiting goalkeeper Joe Hart, was rightly ruled out for offside. Samir Nasri – booed and heckled throughout on his former stomping ground – was next to have a pop at goal, but his tame attempt was comfortably collected by Arsenal stopper Wojciech Szczesny. The match lost some of its pace and flow as the opening period progres ...

Juan Mata v David Silva: Head-to-head analysis ahead of the clash between Manchester United and Manchester City.
Manchester City is being no.1 since last few years as it has some professional personalities like Toure Yaya, Kun Aguero, David Silva ,Samir Nasri etc.
David Moyes thinks Manuel Pellegrini should not have branded City the only club in Manchester - and warned him United are ready to rise again. Arsenal duo Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be available to play in Tuesday's match against Swansea. Manchester City's Spain midfielder David Silva, 28, says Manchester United have failed to get the best out of his former Valencia team-mate Juan Mata, 25, since he signed from Chelsea for a club-record £37.1m. Bayern Munich have dropped out of the race to sign Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler. The 20-year-old Germany international is believed to be a key summer transfer target for Arsenal. Former Chelsea winger Salomon Kalou, 28, has revealed he turned down the chance to join Arsenal from his current club Lille in the January transfer window.
Manchester City's Spanish wizard David Silva won't be leaving the Etihad - Daily
Hart set for Man City exit as Blues close in on Barcelona goalkeeper? Manchester City are close to reaching an agreement to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes in the summer, according to French newspaper L’Equipe. The highly decorated 32-year-old, who has won a string of major honours at Barca, will leave the Catalan club when his contract expires in June. And it seems as though he is edging closer to the Etihad, where he will link up with international team-mates David Silva, Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo. The goalkeeper will also reunite with City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain, who previously held a senior role at the Nou Camp. It was reported earlier this season that he had agreed to join Monaco, although it is claimed he can break that agreement to sign for another club if they pay a compensation fee to the Ligue 1 side. Joe Hart came under fire earlier in the season but has bounced back well and is now considered one of Manuel Pellegrini's senior squad members. But he could be on ...

Chelsea's Premier League title hopes were dented by a shock 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa which saw them reduced to nine men. Delph scored the winner for Aston Villa as they beat Chelsea. ENDWorrall: Blues see red • Delaney: Three Things The second-half dismissal of Willian for two yellow cards left them vulnerable before Fabian Delph met a Marc Albrighton cross with a backheel finish in the 82nd minute to secure all three points. Delph had the chance to score a second for Villa in the dying moments, but struck the crossbar before Ramires and Jose Mourinho were also given their marching orders, Ramires for a lunging challenge on the ankle of Karim El Ahmadi and Mourinho for dissent. That leaves Chelsea in danger of being overtaken by Manchester City, who shrugged off a 10th-minute red card for captain Vincent Kompany as they secured a 2-0 win at Hull to go second in the Premier League, six points behind Chelsea with three games in hand. David Silva (8 January 1986) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Manchester City and the Spanish national team.
Something I've noticed Arsenal lacks are players who can take the game into their own hands, create their own chances, and score remarkable goals single-handedly. Manchester City's Kompany got sent off in the first 10mins of the game. Not even 5mins later, David Silva scores a screamer from 20 yards out. Even with 10 men, they were able to score (twice), and hold off Hull City. If Arsenal were in the same situation - let's say Koscielny got sent off in the 10th minute - Wenger would immediately park the bus, and play for a draw. And I can't think of any player, aside from maybe Cazorla and Ramsey, who'd be able to create something out of nothing. We need to add some directness to our game.
David Silva inspired 10-man Manchester City to a 2-0 victory at Hull City on Saturday that kept the visitors’ English Premier League title fate in their own hands.
EPL: David Silva and Edin Dzeko were on target as 10-man Manchester City beat Hull City 2-0 and cut Chelsea's lead to 6 points.
Manchester City down one man barely 10 minutes into the first half when Vincent Kompany was sent out, withstood the pressure and triumphed against Hull City beating them 2 goals to Nil. David Silva was man of the match with an electrifying shot to give ManCity the lead and Bosnian footballer Edin Dzeko sealed the deal with a scintillating finish after a spectacular pass from the Spanish wizard, David Silva. What a way to bounce back after ManCity went through a rough week getting kicked out of the FA Cup and Champions League.
FULL-TIME- Hull 0-2 Man City So, something for Chelsea to think about ahead of their game at Aston Villa, which is today's late kick-off. When Vincent Kompany was sent off it looked like a bad week for Manchester City was about to get even worse, but David Silva had other ideas. Hull stay 13th, five points above the drop zone, but they might be a bit closer to it in a couple of hours because all the teams below them are in action
Kevin Kilbane, at KC Stadium for BBC Radio 5 live sports extraHALF-TIME - Hull 0-1 Man City "For the first 10 minutes Hull were the better team, forcing the issue and putting Manchester City under player. But as soon as Vincent Kompany was sent off Man City stepped it up, with their big players looking to be counted. And it was a great goal from David Silva.
What struck me about the past two nights in Barcelona's 2-0 win at Manchester City and Bayern Munich's 2-0 stroll against Arsenal is that the Premier League can't buy the best players. They can buy most players, but not the very best. Barcelona and Bayern Munich tend to hold onto their best players. They don't need or want to sell. And their best players don't want to leave. Spanish clubs didn't go for some of City's best players such as David Silva, Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas. There was only two Spanish clubs that could have bought them in Barcelona and Real Madrid , but they opted against signing them. They thought to themselves: 'We've probably got better players at our club. And have probably got better players in our system.' It is similar with Bayern Munich. Why weren't they looking to bring in a player like Mesut Ozil last summer? We saw why last night. Bayern were better than Arsenal in everything they did, but mainly in work-rate and attitude. They're going to look at a guy like Ozil and thin ...
My thoughts! The excuses came thick and fast from Manuel Pellegrini and yet there are 100 reasons or more why Barcelona tore Manchester City apart. Five Barcelona players - on City’s own ground, for goodness sake - had more than 100 touches on the ball. They were: Xavi (144), Cesc Fabregas (123), Andres Iniesta (110), Sergio Busquets (108) and Lionel Messi (103). Compare that, like for like with the £200m super team that is Manchester City and it is embarrassing. Yaya Toure (72), David Silva (62), Fernandinho (40), Alvaro Negredo (32) and Jesus Navas (28). When will we ever learn? Not now. Maybe never. Until English football learns that Barcelona and Bayern Munich have turned passing into an art form, their teams will find it tough to succeed in the Champions League. Yes, it is possible to nick the occasional result and stiff a team of Barcelona’s class on the break from time to time. But it's not possible every time to pull the plan off perfectly. At this time three weeks ago, it was easy to get car ...
FORMATIONS AND TACTICS How City Set Up 4-2-3-1 How Barcelona Set Up 4-3-3 Manchester City have grown accustomed to flooding forward and ripping teams apart this season but they have been known to adopt a more conservative approach against the big sides. They showed a pragmatic side to their play against Chelsea on Saturday but more importantly, their performance away to Bayern Munich earlier in the season was exceptional. The Manchester club did well to beat the Bavarians 3-2 having set up with a 4-2-3-1 formation as is likely to be the case when they take on the Catalans. With Sergio Aguero injured, Alvaro Negredo may lead the line on his own while David Silva plays in the hole behind him. From there, the Spanish playmaker can pull the strings in attack while not having to track the frequent runs of Dani Alves if he were to play on the left. Instead, the industrious James Milner would be the ideal man to keep tabs on the marauding Brazilian full-back. However, his suspension means that Samir Nasri who ha ...
Like Coach, like fans..They are full of excuses. It is always the same guy, the bad guy. One is polite [Wenger] and the other is the bad guy,” he said after watching his side suffer a 2-0 FA Cup fifth-round defeatat Manchester City on Sunday. Mourinho accepted Manuel Pellegrini’s men were good value for their win at the Etihad Stadium, but felt the hosts’ second goal, scored by Samir Nasri, should not have stood due to David Silva appearing to be offside before setting up the France international. “I don’t think my team failed. I think City played much better than us and deserved much more to win,” he said. “Today is simple to analyse: they were the best team and they won. Was the referee very poor in the second half? Yes. But even with a perfect referee would Chelsea win? No. The second goal was offside but we were never close to being dominant.” Mourinho argued that City, whose Wednesday game against Sunderland was postponed because of bad weather, benefited from being fresher than his s ...
As a small boy I found the love of football. I don't know why, but it hit me and took over my life. I had an obsession and it cost me, cost me money, cost me love, but it cost me, but I was obsessed. I had hero's from everywhere, no matter who they played for. Stanley Matthews, Nat Lofthouse, Billy Wright, Peter Springett, Bronco Lane, Denis Law and then on to my Manchester City, Johnny Crossan my first City hero, Colin Bell and on to my present favorites, Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Alvarro Negredo. So, for us football fans, true football fans, to lose a legend like Sir Tom Finney is a very sad time. R.I.P. Sir Tom Finney

Manchester City v Chelsea: Jose Mourinho will defend in numbers and set Eden Hazard free whenever possible Defend deep and in numbers, stifle City's threat, before springing forward using Eden Hazard's great pace, that's how Alan Smith sees Chelsea dealing with goal- crazy opponents Unlike Tottenham on Wednesday, Chelsea surely won't leave the back four exposed by failing to offer enough midfield protection. Jose Mourinho, of course, is a master at this. He will come with a gameplan that involves trying to deny the likes of David Silva any time or space in the final third. In this regard, it will be interesting to see who Mourinho picks to carry out those strict orders. New-boy Nemanja Matic is certainly an option, as is John Obi Mikel. But whoever gets the nod, they look set to play a very disciplined game. In terms of timing his runs, there isn't a better overlapping full-back than Pablo Zabaleta. The Argentine's appreciation of when to make his move and when to stay put is unrivalled in the Premier Lea ...

Hello ladies and gentlemen. My name is Matthew Scott Curtis and at 16:25 pm on January 30th 2014 i lost 7-0 to Ashley Ross Copeman at a game of Fifa14 Going into the game I was already nervous as i had just seen Trashley beat a good friend of mine Craig Murch 4-0. I chose Manchester City and went for a 4-4-2 diamond formation with David Silva playing just behind a front two of Aguero and Negredo, Ashley went for French powerhouses PSG. The match started and i was instantly on the back foot! a front 4 of Zlats, Cavani, Lavezzi and Lucas all causing havoc. It was the big man up top who got the goalscoring under way with a powerful header past Joe Hart after a wonderful pinpoint cross from the Argentinian Lavezzi. Ibrahimovic would go on to score 4 goals in total including a thumping strike past a hapless Joe Hart from just outside the area. The pick of the goals would come from an unlikely source though and that was the midfield engine Blaise Matuidi! Lavezzi was again the architect with a crisp run down t ...

Frank Lampard: £140,000 Per Week Frank Lampards contract runs out soon, and speculation is mounting as to what he will do next, will he stay? will he leave? who knows, but what we do know is that despite the lack of time on his contract, he certainly doesn't lack money. Frank earns £140,000 a week. 9. Samir Nasri: £150,000 Per Week Being an Arsenal fan, im obviously not the biggest fan of Nasri, and personally I believe he was better playing for Arsenal than for Manchester City. Paul Merson's prediction This is a big game for Arsenal because they could end up in fourth place by Christmas, which would have been almost unthinkable a few weeks ago when they were looking to go seven points clear at the top. It just shows you how quickly things can change. I called a 3-0 win for Manchester City last week, so I wasn't surprised to see them lose that game, but I don't read too much into that match, it's the Everton game that was the concern. I saw things in that game that made me think things weren't right. Premier League: Manchester City 6 Arsenal 3 14 December 2013 15:45 Manchester City boosted their hopes of regaining the Premier League title and dealt Arsenal's hopes a major blow with a 6-3 win on Saturday. The 2011-12 champions went into the game six points adrift of Arsene Wenger's league leaders, but moved within striking distance of the London club by claiming the spoils in an enthralling encounter. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring for City, volleying home from a corner, only for the returning Theo Walcott to level midway through the first half. Alvaro Negredo turned home Pablo Zabaleta's cross to put the hosts back in front and City looked to have made the game safe when Fernandinho scored his first goal for the club early in the second half. England winger Walcott curled home a delightful second as Arsenal rallied, yet David Silva converted Jesus Navas' cross to make it 4-2 and Fernandinho struck again in the 88th minute. An injury-time header from Per Mertesacker provided little consolation for th ...
GOAL! Manchester City 4-2 Arsenal (Silva 66) *** bells! Manchester City reassert their two-goal lead with another fine goal. Sprinting down the right wing, Jesus Navas won half a yard on his marker and drilled a low, hard cross towards the near post, where David Silva was on hand to fire home from close range.
Manuel Pellegrini: Did not appear to know a 4-2 win would have won the group Manuel Pellegrini appeared to be unaware that Manchester City needed only one more goal against Bayern Munich to top their UEFA Champions League group. City were 2-0 down at the Allianz Arena inside the opening 12 minutes, but drew level through goals from David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov before James Milner put the Premier League side ahead on 62 minutes. A fourth goal would have seen City top Group D by virtue of a better head-to-head record against Bayern, who won 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the competition. However, with two minutes to go, Pellegrini replaced striker Edin Dzeko with midfielder Jack Rodwell and appeared to suggest he thought City required a 5-2 win in order to finish first. "It is very important to be first in the group but not the most important thing. It was difficult to score two goals and I think that Silva couldn't play more than 70 minutes." The City boss told Sky Sports when asked if he was t ...
CONGRATS go to our youth partners, Manchester City, for their personal tribute to Nelson Mandela before their match against European champions, Bayern Munich. .and the 'Madiba Magic' was evident as City who were 2-0 down inside 10 minutes, produced a stunning fight back to win 3-2. Perhaps the best by a City team in Europe! Goals from David Silva, Aleks Kolarov and the excellent James Milner ensured that the Blues qualify for the prestigious knockout stage.
OFF-COLOUR MUNICH LOSE BUT WIN GROUP Bayern’s imperious winning run came to a temporary halt on Tuesday night as Pep Guardiola’s side fell 3-2 at home to Manchester City in their final Champions League Group D fixture, but a one-goal advantage in the head-to-head comparison was enough to ensure the Bavarians finished top of the section ahead of the Premier League outfit. The 68,000 full house at the Allianz Arena saw the home team dominate from the off and make a dream start with goals from Thomas Müller and Mario Götze in the first 12 minutes, but the Bundesliga side shifted down a gear and David Silva pulled one back after half an hour. The pace dropped through to half-time, but City were a different proposition after the break and captain Aleksandar Kolarov levelled from the spot on the hour. England international James Milner then handed the Premier League side a 62nd-minute lead, and for all their efforts, FCB were ultimately unable to prise apart the visitors’ packed defence and stave off th ...
Manchester CitY. Manchester City staged a superb comeback to end Bayern Munich's record run of 10 consecutive Champions League wins but they still finished as Group D runners-up behind the German champions. Bayern were dominant early on as Thomas Muller struck from Dante's pass before Mario Gotze scored following a corner. David Silva pulled a goal back from close range after Jesus Navas's cross. Aleksandar Kolarov equalised with a penalty after James Milner was tripped before Milner's fine finish won it. Bayern suffer Brit panic Bayern's last three home defeats in European competition have come against English clubs - Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea It was an amazing turnaround from Manuel Pellegrini's side, who almost earned the 4-2 victory they needed to go through as group winners as Alvaro Negredo had a late effort saved by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. But after Bayern scored twice in the opening 12 minutes, the fact City fought back to claim an unexpected victory will give them confidence as ...

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has returned to training with the squad after six weeks out. The Belgium defender has not played since picking up a thigh injury in the 3-1 win over Everton on 5 October. He trained on Tuesday before City's Champions League game against Viktoria Plzen but is not fit enough to play. "Vincent started this week on some work with the whole squad. I think next week he could play," said City manager Manuel Pellegrini. The injured David Silva, Stevan Jovetic and Jack Rodwell were all absent from training. "I think Jovetic, Silva and Rodwell need another week or 10 days more to be fit," added Pellegrini. "They will not be involved on Wednesday or at the weekend."
Manchester City will be without captain Vincent Kompany, MF David Silva, and F Stevan Jovetic for Sunday's match vs Tottenham.
Both sides are coming into this game to show they have Champion or Champions League class after suffering disappointing defeats to North East opposition on their last Premier League outing. Manchester City will feel they need to keep up their 100% record, though they sit in eighth place they still remain favourites with the bookmakers to regain the Premier League title given how tight the table is. Spurs on the other hand are a very difficult side to break time, yet have found goals hard to come by this season as they sit fractionally above City in the league table. On the injury front, it may be a week too early for City’s captain Vincent Kompany to come back into the side as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury whilst David Silva isn’t expected to be available for selection for at least another ten days as he has a calf injury. For Spurs left-back Danny Rose could be fit enough for a return to the squad but their boss, Andre Villas-Boas, may persist with Jan Vertonghen at left-back so he do ...

Manchester City's David Silva out for up to four weeks with calf injury
Real Madrid are interested in signing Manchester City midfielder David Silva.
By Tom Maston It may not help heal the wounds of Stamford Bridge six days ago, but the way in which Manchester City dismantled Norwich was a delight to watch. Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero and David Silva were all at their best while for Costel Pantilimon is was as easy a league debut as you would want. Questions must be asked of Chris Hughton, however, whose job at Carrow Road is coming under increasing pressure. No matter what the opposition, conceding 11 times in two trips to Manchester within five days is inexcusable. Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko added goals five, six and seven after the break as the match lived up to its goal-rich reputation, with 25 having been scored in the previous four top-flight meetings between the two sides. In addition to the change in goalkeeper, Negredo replaced Javi Garcia in the only other alteration to the City side that started a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea last Sunday. Chris Hughton also made a double change to his Norwich side from last weekend’s goalless draw wi ...
Manchester City 7-0 Norwich City Manchester City produced a footballing master-class as they thrashed hapless Norwich City 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City 7-0 Norwich City The result leaves the Canaries entrenched in the relegation zone while Manuel Pellegrini's rampant team are back in the top four. After the outstanding Samir Nasri's left-footed shot had hit the outside of John Ruddy's post, Manchester City took the lead in the 16th minute when Sergio Aguero's effort was deflected into the net by the unfortunate Bradley Johnson. Four minutes later Nasri and Aguero created the opening for David Silva to double the home team's lead and, in the 25th minute, it was 3-0 when Matija Nastasic's header was deflected past Ruddy. Pellegrini's side then scored their fourth goal in just 20 minutes when Alvaro Negredo tapped the ball home after a brilliantly incisive move. On the hour mark Yaya Toure fired a superb free-kick home as the Canaries defence was breached again and, in the 71st minute, a dreadf ...

Any minute now, Manchester City will (finally) introduce Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager, per Mark Ogden of the Telegraph. Already, though, the new man has some new toys. Fernandinho was signed last week; he joins a spectacularly loaded midfield which boasts the likes of Yaya Toure, David Silva and, yes, the resurgent Samir Nasri. And just recently, per BBC Sport, Manchester City announced the signing of Jesus Navas from Sevilla. Though Fernandinho cost City more money and is arguably the more accomplished player, Navas might actually have the greater chance to force his way into City's starting 11. Why? Because, unless you think Scott Sinclair is going to suddenly reemerge, Navas has almost no competition on City's roster to play his natural position on the right wing. Think about it. City has all those midfielders, sure, but even on the days when Nasri played well last season, he did not seriously approximate a wing player. That was due largely to former manager Roberto Mancini's dogged efforts t ...
Manchester United could be in line for a remarkable double swoop on Barcelona's midfield this summer with Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara in their sights. Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany was allowed to play for an hour with a broken nose for Belgium last week - a decision that could have cost him dearly according to one doctor. Manchester City new boy Jesus Navas cannot wait to get flying in the Premier League alongside his Spain team-mate David Silva. Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is linked with Napoli move as Reds prepared to listen to offers for him. Liverpool's Luis Suarez says he would love to play with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. Everton will start next season with a "Rolls Royce" of a pitch once they have finished a major renovation at Goodison Park. - Jay
