Media watch Liverpool and Manchester City are among the clubs watching Real Madrid starlet Jack Harper. The 18-year-old was outstanding in Madrid's UEFA Youth League victory over Basle in midweek impressing Liverpool and City scouts among others. Harper was born in Fuengirola, Spain after his family moved from Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, in Scotland. He was signed by Madrid at 13 after being spotted playing for local side Los Boliches and despite strong competition from Sevilla. Under the tutelage of coaches Fernando Morientes and Zinedine Zidane, he has developed into an attacking midfielder with great promise. He scored, hit the crossbar and showed some excellent touches in the 2-0 win over Basle, earning a standing ovation when he was substituted in the second half. Madrid have high hopes for Harper but with first team superstars blocking his progress, they know clubs are showing interest in the hope of tempting him with regular first team football elsewhere. The talk in Spain was that Roman Abramovich is on the brink of buying Real Mallorca. Now duel ownership is not unknown in European football. But it is fraught with difficulty especially if the clubs end up competing against each other in the Champions League. If that is the case and he takes on Mallorca then he would have to ditch one or the other. Could it be that Roman has grown tired of Chelsea and or UEFA financial fair play regulations? Or even Jose Mourinho’s requests? Or will one of his yachts sit better in Mallorca than London? Chelsea suddenly seem to have become a selling club given the sale of David Luiz and possibly Eden Hazard. Why is that? Is it because Roman can’t compete with the Manchester City owners that he wants to take on Real Madrid and Barcelona? Is this the end of Chelsea’s Roman empire ? [Copy pasted from Daily Mail] -JCon
Hazard wants to stay at Stamford Bridge – and all because, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have decided to give him the No10 shirt. This is an intriguing development that could yet save clubs a fortune: perhaps Arsenal could persuade Cesc Fábregas to join them rather than Chelsea by offering to let him have his name in shiny glitter on the back of his jersey, Manchester United can placate Wayne Rooney when he starts demanding another new contract in a few months by appointing ball boys to carry the striker on to the pitch in a sedan chair before each game, while Yaya Touré could be cheered up by being awarded an official Manchester City tiara. Jose Mourinho has stated that youth could be key for Chelsea in the near future, the Daily Mail has reported. The Stamford Bridge side defeated Fulham in the FA Youth Cup final to win the trophy for the third time in Five Years, and The Blues manager believes the strength of their younger players could be vital for him, should he have a long-term future at the club. Future The Cup win was touched upon during Mourinho’s question & answer session, with a fan asking whether members of the youth team will get a chance with the senior team, to which he replied: “I want it in the right time. I don’t want them to come and not to succeed.” Despite the success of the youngsters, the Portuguese man seems more intent on spotting talented players abroad who he will be able to sell for a great profit, possibly due to the recent introduction of UEFA Financial Fair Play, which has already seen Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City greatly punished.
