Bayern, City through as Real draw Holders Bayern Munich and their group rivals Manchester City became the first teams to qualify for the knockout stages of this season's UEFA Champions League. Bayern made heavy weather of beating Viktoria Plzen 1-0 while City reached the knockout stages for the first time, after failing to progress from the group stage in the last two seasons, with a 5-2 thumping of CSKA Moscow in Manchester. "That wasn't a festival from us, we made life hard for ourselves," said Bayern's Toni Kroos after his side had equalled the Champions League record of nine successive wins. "In the opening stages, we gave the ball away too often and had too few chances of our own. Nevertheless, we can be proud to have reached the knock-out stage." Real Madrid came close to joining them, but having gone 2-1 up in Turin against Juventus they were pegged back to 2-2 with a goal by former Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente. Football - Serie A Are Juventus crazy to gamble on Tevez? “I chose Juventus because it was my dream to play here in Italy and the Bianconeri were the only club who really wanted me,” Carlos Tevez stated at his official unveiling on Thursday afternoon. “Your football is one of the hardest and most beautiful in the world.” After back-to-back Scudetti without a true goalscorer, the Old Lady now have two on their books. Fernando Llorente will come in this summer after running down his contract at Athletic Bilbao, and with the Manchester City forward joining him for as little as €9m, the rest of Serie A are right to be scared going into the 2013-14 campaign. The Argentine striker may not be known for his loyalty and dedication to the cause, but when he gets it right, as Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini can attest, the 29-year-old gets it very, very right. 107 goals in nearly 250 games for both Manchester clubs shows the talent Tevez has at his disposal. Falcao fits at Juve, claims Tardelli 12 December 2012 Ex-Juventus midfielder Marco Tardelli said Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao is the 'logical answer' to solve the side's striker issues. Juve are reportedly chasing Athletic Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente, but the Republic of Ireland assistant coach believes it is the Atletico Madrid attacker who would be the best option. "I would love Juve to sign Falcao, he would be the logical answer to the striker question," Tardelli told La Gazetta dello Sport. "But, for the figures being bandied around (60m euros), it would be virtually impossible." Tardelli feels the Manchester City pair of Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez could also provide the side with an added attacking threat should the Serie A champions be priced out of a move for Falcao. He added: "So in that case, I think Carlos Tevez or Sergio Aguero would be good. South Americans suit Italy well and they would both fit at Juve. "Personally, I think Tevez would be perfect." The 58-year-old also reserved ...

Molby: RVP a coup, but United need a midfielder. Liverpool legend Jan Molby says Robin Van Persie is a great signing for Manchester United, but they won't win the title unless they sign a top-class midfielder. The signing of Robin Van Persie is obviously a huge coup for Manchester United, and gives them renewed hope of taking back the Premier League title from Manchester City, but it doesn't address one of the fundamental weaknesses of Sir Alex Ferguson's team. The player United actually needed to sign was an out-and-out midfielder, not another forward. I am really surprised that they haven't decided to do anything about that area and I think if they don't before the transfer window closes then it will cost them this season. Ferguson needed to recruit a player like Bastian Schweinsteiger or Javi Martinez, who is on the verge of joining the Germany international at Bayern Munich in a 40 million euro deal from Athletic Bilbao. Those two look like players who are made for Manchester United. Instead they have ...

A report on Spanish website vozpopuli states that the Llorente's relationship with Bielsa has broken down to such an extent that the Basque striker does not want to continue under his management. Llorente, 27, has played his entire career with Athletic but is said to be unhappy with the regime under Bielsa, which has seen the club's philosophy entirely change, with the manager focusing on a quick passing, high-tempo style of play. It has not suited the target man, who thrived under Joaquin Caparros when he was the focal point of the team's play.
