Match Preview: Chelsea: Firstly, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all West Ham Till I Die readers a very Merry Christmas! Blast from the past Stamford Bridge, 29th March 1986 – the scene of one of West Ham United’s more memorable afternoons. Chelsea went into the match six days after winning the Full Members Cup, after beating Manchester City 5-4 at Wembley. The Hammers arrived in west London in sixth position but having suffered three defeats in their previous five league games. Alan Devonshire gave John Lyall’s men a 1-0 half-time advantage in front of 29,955, the England international being allowed time and space to travel infield after receiving a short free-kick from Tony Gale before rifling a rising long-range effort into the top corner of Steve Francis’ goal. The second half saw West Ham blitz the Blues with three goals in thirteen minutes as the match became the Cottee and McAvennie show. The second goal arrived on 55 minutes, George Parris breaking clear with the ball from left ...

Manchester City 5-0 Wigan: Jovetic doubles up for comfortable hosts The hosts squandered a number of good opportunities in the first 30 minutes as they looked determined to get their revenge for last season's FA Cup final defeat to the same opposition, before Edin Dzeko eventually got the breakthrough. Jovetic doubled their lead in the second half before substitute Yaya Toure scored a delightful free kick but there was still time for the Montenegrin and Jesus Navas to add the fourth and fifth. VIEW FROM Etihad Stadium Manchester City's 5-0 rout of Wigan may not be enough just yet to convince any doubters that remain about this side's capabilities on all fronts this year but the old adage that you 'beat what's in front of you' could not have been more apt this evening as the hosts did so in some style, thanks mainly to the magnificent Stevan Jovetic. The Montengrin was first to every ball and notched his first two goals for the club to cap a promising home debut. Edin Dzeko had already got the ball rolling ...
Manchester City FC 5 vs 0 Wigan Athletic - Played … - FULL-TIME: Manchester City 5-0 Wigan 90′ + 1 - 'Blue Moon' rings out at the Etihad for the last time tonight. A sensational couple of days for Manuel Pellegrini's men. 90′ - We're into stoppage time now of which there will be two minutes. That's a merciful decision from the fourth official on Wigan's behalf. Still time for a sixth City goal... 88′ - Meanwhile, from a Wigan perspective, the full-time whistle couldn't come any sooner... 86′ - Goal - Jesús Navas González (Manchester City FC) GOAL! Jesus Navas grabs his first for Manchester City. Goals everywhere at the Etihad Stadium! 86′ - Poznan atmosphere in the blue half of Manchester tonight as the already hugely popular Jesus Navas bags his first goal for the club. It's a super little near post strike from the Spaniard after he was slipped throughcheekily by his old clum Negredo. 83′ - Goal - Stevan Jovetic (Manchester City FC) 83′ - It's another one ...
Manchester City 5-1 West Ham United (Premier Division) Manchester City fans celebrated an emphatic 5-1 win at The City Of Manchester Stadium this afternoon. A brace from Sergio Agüero helped Man City to victory. Tenacious midfielder Yaya Touré gave Manchester City the lead with a shot from 19 metres in the 18th minute. Tireless midfielder Carlos Tevez doubled Manchester City's lead with a fine header from point-blank range on 24 minutes. Agüero scored with a tap-in in the 42nd minute to extend the lead further. It was a wonderful solo effort from Agüero and the player looked delighted. Agüero added his 2nd goal of the game with a close range diving header on 48 minutes. Experienced winger Joe Cole pulled one back for West Ham United after 67 minutes with a placed shot. Clinical striker Oscar Cardozo completed the rout with a fierce shot on 71 minutes. Player of the Match: Yaya Touré (Man City) Attendance: 47,405
I'd programme it to go back to Christmas Day 1925. Bury 6 Manchester City 5.
