Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has played down his chances of luring Wayne Rooney away from rivals Manchester United. Rooney's omission from United's starting line-up in the Champions League defeat by Real Madrid stirred up frenzied speculation about the striker's future, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists he will remain at Old Trafford. City were linked in the past with Rooney during his contract stand- off in 2010 and Mancini was asked whether he would test United's desire to keep the England international. But the Italian does not think he has a realistic chance of tempting Rooney to move across Manchester. "I think that Rooney is one of the best strikers in Europe but I think it is difficult he can leave Man Utd - I don't think (so)," he said. Mancini insists such minor fall- outs are commonplace in football and expects Rooney to quickly put his disappointment behind him. The Italian said: "I don't know. I don't know this situation. Van Persie convinced Man Utd his best option Arsenal rebel Robin Van Persie wants a move to Manchester United ahead of Manchester City. The People says Van Persie's preference is believed to be Old Trafford, where he believes he'll get far more game time than at City, as Roberto Mancini is already overloaded with strikers. Van Persie would have competition from Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko and, possibly, Emmanuel Adebayor if City cannot agree a deal with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for the sale of the Togo striker. Mancini is desperate to stop Van Persie joining United but last night Sir Alex Ferguson appeared to be in pole position. Sir Alex Ferguson thinks signing Van Persie would give United a great chance of reclaiming the title and is excited by the prospect of having four top strikers - Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. My Take Rvp is spot on here but can this deal happen?
Man Utd discuss sensational double raid on Spurs for Modric, Bale Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up a sensational double raid on Tottenham for Luka Modric and Gareth Bale. Barcelona and Real Madrid are both admirers of Bale, while Ferguson and Manchester City's Roberto Mancini would also be expected to enter the bidding if given the slightest indication that he wants out. United are in the market for top class attacking options having tried and failed to land Eden Hazard. Bale was not expected to figure prominently in United's transfer business this summer, but they could be prompted into action if he looks set to move on. Of more immediate interest to Ferguson is the future of Modric – a player he has tracked for the past 12 months. He baulked at Spurs’ £32m valuation of the playmaker – currently on internation ...
