SUNDAY UPDATE * OUR 3 FINALISTS CRUISE THROUGH TO NEXT ROUND Wilf, Rick and Dave will do battle again next weekend but it may prove more difficult to choose a winning team. . DAVE STEVENS has used 6 of the top 8 teams in the league and may elect to go for one of the two available to him. Southampton are away to Newcastle while West Ham look inviting at home to Hull. . RICK OXLEY has only used 5 of the top 8 and has Southampton, Man Utd and Spurs available. United facing QPR and Spurs at home to Sunderland look obvious choices. . WILF WHITEHEAD is in a marvellous position with having 5 of the top 8 available. He has chosen wisely throughout and could now reap the benefits from using smaller teams in the opening weeks. He may also go with Spurs or even consider Liverpool away to Aston Villa. SUMMARY If results run to form, it could take these 3 a few weeks to settle this.

Radamel Falcao made his fourth league start for Manchester United and scored his second goal Falcao header cancels out Benteke goal Man Utd prevented seven straight wins Agbonlahor sent off in second half United third, seven points off top Ten-man Aston Villa ended Manchester United's six-game winning run with a hard- earned draw at Villa Park. United dominated possession but fell behind to Christian Benteke's superb left- foot strike before Radamel Falcao headed them level after the break. Gabriel Agbonlahor was dismissed for a heavy tackle on Ashley Young, prompting United pressure and Michael Carrick's header was cleared off the line. They could not force a winner and sit seven points behind leaders Chelsea. The Blues could extend that lead if they win their game in hand at Stoke on Monday and United will look back at a timid first-half display as costly. Manager Louis Van Gaal asked his side to be better with ball before kick-off and they obliged with 76% of possession in the opening half an hour. But ...
Manchester United have been held to a 1-1 draw by the 10 men of Aston Villa in a keenly-contested game at Villa Park this afternoon. The result has brought an end to a six-game winning streak for Louis Van Gaal's side, but they remain in the top three of the Premier League. Man Utd saw much of the ball in the opening 15 minutes but couldn't create any chances with their superior possession. Their lack of creativity came back to haunt them in the 18th minute as Christian Benteke bent a measured shot inside the far post from inside the box after Jonny Evans was unable to deal with a deep free kick. United were soon on the front foot again as they penned the hosts inside their own half, but a wall of claret and blue shirts prevented them from carving open any opportunities. After a Villa counter attack broke down, Man Utd almost got a goal back as Ashley Young's inswinging cross evaded everyone inside the box, but Brad Guzan clawed it away just as it looked to be creeping inside the far post. Radamel Falcao ...
GREAT FOOTBALL BUT Red Devils DROP POINTS AGAINST 10 VILLAINS.CITY JOIN CHELSEA ON TOP! Man Utd dominated possession but were held 1-1 at Aston Villa. (Better to win without playing well!) Christian Benteke scored a beauty after 19 minutes but Radamel Falcao starting for the first time since October 5 equalised through a brilliant header off a fabulous cross from Ashley Young. With 25 minutes remaining, Gabriel Agbonlahor was controversially and harshly sent off by referee Lee Mason for a foul on Young. Angel Di Maria was introduced but did little to change matters on the field. Earlier, noisey neighbours Man City moved to 39 points and only goal difference separates the Citizens from Chelsea after a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Super David Silva struck twice while stand in skipper Yaya Toure added the cherry on the cake. Emmanuel Mayuka did not even make the bench as Southampton stopped the winless rot with a riotous 3-0 triumph against Everton. Other results today: QPR 3-2 West Brom Tottenham Hotspu ...
Poor Man utd they can't even beat 10 man Aston Villa which other clubs beat with ease. 2:0 Chelsea 2:0 Arsenal 3:0
No clear cut opportunities after Aston Villa were 10 men and hence deserve only a point. Man Utd has to cut down their side passes a bit, *** they were just consuming much more time without any effective end product.

PREVIEW Newcastle v Leicester City| Premier League | St James' Park | Sat 18 Oct | 3pm Billed as A game Newcastle really, really, really have to win. That man is a broken Alan Pardew, who is desperately trying to ease Newcastle’s sorry malaise for his own mental well-being. It’s long been known that things are bad for the former West Ham chief at St James’ Park. Forced to parp along to Mike Ashley’s tune, and with supporter opinion polls (levels of disgruntled shouting, basically) at an all-time low (or high, in this case), Pardew is in an uncomfortable state of limbo waiting to be put ...
This weekend was not an exciting one in the Premier League, as last Sunday saw shocks, with Leicester City’s comeback against Manchester United, and then Crystal Palace won at Everton against the odds. Week six of the Barclays Premier League saw Manchester United go back to winning ways, but they had to win the game the hard way after Wayne Rooney’s sending off. Chelsea continued their title winning form by beating Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. Manchester City were part of a six goal thriller against Hull City and lost a two goal lead, but they bounced back in the second half to take all three points at the KC Stadium. There were two derby games on Saturday which both ended in draws, as Phil Jagielka scored a stunner to earn a point for Everton at Liverpool. Then Tottenham Hotspur had to work hard to earn a draw at Arsenal. Man Utd were two-nil up after twenty minutes, and strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie scored. Rooney went from hero to zero in the second half, with the score at 2-1 to Ma ...
ARSENAL vs Man City (sat 12:45pm Kick Off) After his clinical double for England on Monday night, Danny Welbeck is expected to make his Arsenal debut leading the line against an already inconsistent Man City side that have Sergio Aguero back to full fitness.. Which front man will come out on top? All that talk of strikers leads on nicely to Sundays 4pm Kick Off as Radamel Falcao, arguably the most deadly striker on the planet, makes his Man Utd bow in front of the Old Trafford crowd alongside another home debutant, record signing Angel Di Maria. QPR have the task of handling the new united boys and key to that will be Rio Ferdinand, who returns to Manchester to face the side he left for the R's in the summer. Sandwiched in the middle we have Liverpool vs Aston Villa live from Anfield (17:30pm Kick Off Saturday) What a weekend of football.. One not to be missed.. Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert to discuss future with Man Utd and Spurs target Ron Vlaar -
Football seasons here again, results we all confuse, Aston Villa win a match while Man Utd lose, penalties and red cards it's all a mighty sham, a last gasp win for Tottenham means defeat for foes West Ham, Sunderland and Leicester grab late goals for a draw, while hapless Harry Redknapp sees his QPR boys bore, so lets just see what happens as it all pans out in time, I'll try to keep you interested with my weekly scoring rhyme. Xx
I haven't posted for a while so here's the world according to murdoch. Its a really turbulent time to be a Saint at the minute. I'm sure it has been the same for everyone at work at the minute as it has me where fans from all different clubs are joking about us having no players, liverpool buying our academy etc etc but there is reason to be optimistic. We have a big name in as our new boss, 3 cracking new players, potentially 4 or 5 more on there way as well and loads of money because we have drove the transfers business very hard and had Liverpool, Man utd and Arsenal all pay 'far' too much for our players. I personally am not all that wound up by it all as other clubs have been through similar situations and coped perfectly well i.e Aston Villa only a few years ago!!!. Early prediction.we'll be fine, (we wont come 8th) so a health warning.if we don't race out of the traps like we did last season 'don't panic', but mid tableish i would say. And, i can see us beating Liverpool at SMS with a newly gelle . ...

Just read that there is still a chance Man Utd could get into Europe. While some have argued that being in the Europa League is an embarrassment for them and I myself have pointed out that a season with just domestic competitions gives them a better chance of rebuilding, I would still like to see a complete (even if only temporary) fall from grace. If there was ever a perfect time for Aston Villa to capitulate, it's today.
As a Man Utd fan used to wearing red, today I am looking out my claret and blue - come on West Ham and Aston Villa! And United obviously!
THE 2013-14 Premier League...WHAT'S LEFT TO PLAY FOR... THE TITLE If West Ham win at the Etihad, Liverpool can pip Man City by beating Newcastle at Anfield. City need a point to win de title! Europa League Hull qualify through the Fa Cup and fifth-placed Everton are in. Tottenham will get the final spot with a point against Aston Villa. If Spurs lose, Man Utd can pip them with a win at Southampton. IS THERE A BONUS PLACE FROM FAIR PLAY LEAGUE? No. Only the top three nations in UEFA’s Respect rankings get an extra Europa League spot. Norway, Sweden and Finland will receive that honour. PREMIER RELEGATION Norwich still have a mathematical chance of survival but need to beat Arsenal and hope West Brom lose to Stoke with a 17-goal swing in the Canaries’ favour.
So Liverpool struggled last night! Man utd won tonight securing European football Can Man City beat Aston Villa on Wednesday to go clear at the top or will they also bottle it? Watch it down the Bay Tree Wednesday night from 7:45pm
Fresh from the first defeat under Ryan Giggs, Manchester United play host to Hull City, hoping to make amends for the disappointing loss against Sunderland. The Red Devils are 4/11 favourites to claim maximum points and 5/6 for a half-time/full-time win at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, the Tigers have survived the season in spite of the 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa and they are 8/1 to win at Old Trafford and pour more misery on their more illustrious opponents. More match markets available here Man Utd avoid another embarrassment?

MATA: MAN UTD FANS HAVE BEEN LET DOWN Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata admits they've let down fans this season. Mata has urged his team-mates to start giving the supporters what they deserve - starting with a winning performances against Aston Villa to set up Tuesday's Champions League tie with Bayern Munich. "For us, it is very important to have our confidence back and it is also very important to show the crowd, to show the fans, that we are giving them what they deserve," Mata told the Mirror. "They deserve more than they are getting. They deserve great football, they deserve to see wins, so we will try to do that – to win and to do that playing great football. But it is going to be tough because no game is easy these days."

I am back home from the Man Utd Vs Aston Villa Game now. That was more like the Man Utd that I recognise and love. Former Crewe Alexandra Captain Ashley Westwood put Aston Villa 1-0 up with a well taken free kick and because it was a Crewe Lad part of me wanted to Cheer that goal but Rooney scored a great header to equalise and then Rooney netted a superb penalty to give Utd the lead. Me and my old fella were in the Kit Room before the game which is a fantastic Corporate area with a great club atmosphere. I had a few scoops before the game an coffee at half time. We had a great view from the North West Quadrant of the whole pitch and especially of Mata's first goal for Utd. I was there when Mata made his debut for Utd against Cardiff and I was there today when Mata scored his first goal for Utd against Aston Villa. I missed the late goal from Hernandez but it has been a great day and victory for Man Utd. Powell has just scored for Wigan, Leeds have lost to Donny and the Chelsea rent boys have also lost a ...

PREVIEW Fulham v Sunderland, Premier League | Craven Cottage | Sat 11 Jan | 3pm Billed as Dad’s Army versus an assortment of players haphazardly assembled by a fiery Italian linked to fascism. That’s a better sell than Super Sunday, right? The lowdown If Sunderland could replicate their cup form in the Premier League they might not be bottom of the table. While they’re able to conjure the magic to beat Chelsea and Man United in the League Cup, they continue to stutter in the league with only one win in their last nine games. FULHAM FORM Norwich 1-1 Fulham (FAC) Fulham 2-1 West Ham (Prem) Hull 6-0 Fulham (Prem) Norwich 1-2 Fulham (Prem) Fulham 2-4 Man City (Prem) SUNDERLAND FORM S'land 2-1 Man Utd (LC) S'land 3-1 Carlisle (FAC) S'land 0-1 Aston Villa (Prem) Cardiff 2-2 S'land (Prem) Everton 0-1 S'land (Prem) This dreadful run of form has left the Black Cats four points from safety and five behind Rene Meulensteen’s men in 16th. Hull v Man Utd, 12:45 In an alternate universe where continuity is even more important there would have been a line of former United players queuing up to be interviewed when Sir Alex walked away, but instead they all play against the side David Moyes inherited and wonder what might have been. Today Moyes faces Hull on their home turf, and although the Tigers only have one win in their last five that came against Liverpool, again at the KC, so they have a bit of form here. Having seen that game, the 9/1 on a 1-1 draw with Ladbrokes is tempting, but Hull need a bit of luck to get a draw or win today. Michael Carrick could return for United, but the away side are still missing Nemanja Vidic, Danny Welbeck, Robin Van Persie, Nani and Marouane Fellaini through injury. For the home side Sone Aluko is out, along with Robbie Brady and Steven Quinn, both of whom are near a return. Aston Villa v Crystal Palace, 15:00 There are a lot of reasons for football teams struggling in the Premier League, from tactical defi ...

Can't wait for next weekend. Live on sky. Aston Villa v Man Utd in a HUGE battle for mid table superiority.
An early good morning Boys & Girls. Getting ready to go to watch the Boys at Aston Villa. Not leaving till 9-30 but can't wait. After last weeks great win against the Swans, hoping to pick up something today. Villa have some injuries apparently and have not scored for a while. Not sure if that's good or bad for us, we shall see. Villa Park is one of my favourite old grounds with a great history. Will Malky change any players today i wonder. Been a bit ambitious with my bets today but i liked the odds. £2 on Turner 1st goal & 2-1 win @ 290-1 & £2 same score Whitts 1st goal @ 85-1. Caulker scored against his old team last week, Whitts could do the same. We have a 2 week break for Internationals after today, an addition to the points would be great with Man Utd & Arsenal to come. The adventure continues. Marching on and on. Andy
Preview: Hull City v Sunderland, Premier League | KC Stadium | Sat 2 Nov | 3pm Billed as The Steve Bruce Cup. The lowdown As Steve Bruce runs his finger down the list of Hull's available players for this Saturday’s fixture, he may start to feel the darkness closing in around him. Getting a competent starting XI together out of an injury-ravaged squad is where managers really start to earn their wages. In all honesty, Bruce could have done without the trip to London for cup tie against Spurs, despite the rousin ...
If women were football teams Arsenal: Very sexy, but very prudish won't doo anything dirty. Aston Villa: Scrubs up lovely when she puts the effort in. Blackburn Rovers: Her best days are behind her. Bolton: Not all that attractive, but very, very dirty. Chelsea: Posh bird that's had a few facelifts too many. Everton :Unashamedly flirtatious in front of her neighbour and is the more popular for it. Fulham: That girl at the office whos been there for years without anyone really noticing. Hull City: Hard to tell if this one a looker or not. Looks good in a certain light like a man in drag in another. Liverpool: Slightly flawed girl who hangs around with the popular crowd, insisting she's the best looking. Man City: A Chav whos won the lottery, but still lives in a council house, fitted with satellite TV. Man Utd: Fit and don't she just know it. Looks down her nose at people though. Middlesbrough: Back-up when all viable alternatives are available. Newcastle: Has had potential for years, but still hasn'tbeen ...

Fantasy Premier League – Gameweek 5 Who’s hot right now? Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) Value: £5.9 Recent points: 15-3-4 Upcoming fixtures: Stoke (h), Swansea (a), West Brom (h) The Arsenal midfielder seems to be preferred by Arsene Wenger this season as he is playing most of every game. I have said from pre-season already that Ramsey is one to watch. He has also come into sublime form scoring 6 goals from 6 matches this season. A great value for money pick as he is not that expensive as well. My top pick for the week. Pablo Zabaleta (Man City) Value: £6.3 Recent points: 7-12-1 Upcoming fixtures: Man Utd (h), Aston Villa (a), Everton (h) Defenders are doing very well so far this season and Zabaleta being the second highest defender (points) is definitely a good pick. He is consistent and likes to get forward and attack very often. The quality of his crosses and positioning are his strengths. The only problem being the City defense may leak a goal here or there as they don’t look as good as last season at ...

On this day: 31 May 2000 Fabien Barthez joins Man Utd from Monaco Manchester United completed the signing of France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez from Monaco on a six-year-deal. Barthez, who won the 1998 FIFA World Cup, was brought in to fill the void left by Peter Schmeichel, who retired in 1999 after a glorious spell with the club. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had previously brought in former Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich and Italian Massimo Taibi in a bid to find a solution, but after they struggled he went for Barthez, who had a successful career in his homeland. Barthez won the UEFA Champions League in 1993 with Marseille and, after joining Monaco two years later, he kept a clean sheet in the 1998 FIFA World Cup final as France beat Brazil to win the trophy. After moving to Old Trafford, Barthez and France won the European Championships in 2000 and he followed it up with domestic success with United, as they claimed the 2000/01 Barclays Premier League title. Arsenal wrested the title back in th ...

The Spaniard, who has not played a Premier League game since the 3-2 win at Aston Villa on 10 November, replaces Anders Lindegaard, who is not even on the bench. Youngster Sam Johnstone is the back-up keeper. Ferguson makes two other changes from the side which won 4-3 at Reading last weekend - and they both come in his midfield.
