Bob Moncur: Newcastle United's success in the French market in the past means it isn't all doom and gloom at St James' Newcastle United’s challenge of restructuring their squad for next season is already under way at St James’ Park. Bascially, the Magpies must look to repeat the success in the transfer market they’ve already in the last few years. It’s a tough task competing with those in the top six given that billions are being poured into the transfer war chests at places like Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United, Man City and even Liverpool and Everton. Newcastle have made it clear they are working on a much more limited budget and Alan Pardew has been honest enough in public to tell us this will be a “slow build”. The life of a Premier League manager outside of the top six is tough. Just look at the scenario for Chris Hughton at Norwich City. He was battling away against relegation and for me he was doing a good job in tough circumstances. Unfortunately, he wasn’t allowed to complete the job he ...
Alan Pardew has revealed that Newcastle United are taking the spirit of the SAS into the final 11 games of the season – starting at Hull City this Saturday. And the United boss has suggested to his team that it could be a case of “Who Dares Wins” as the campaign hits crunch time. Pardew’s team are ranked as outsiders to qualify for the top six this season with odds of 66/1 available from some bookmakers. Newcastle could close the gap to just two points to sixth place if they beat the Tigers. But there should be plenty of incentive in the last 11 matches. Especially if Manchester City defeat Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final, a result that would activate sixth place as a Europa League spot. Yet seventh could yet turn out to be an additional Europa spot too. Indeed, if Man City also make it to the FA Cup final and play either Arsenal or Everton in the Wembley showpiece, it could open up an extra slot depending on final league positions in the top six. However, after Newcastle’s poor recent r ...

Alan Pardew has apologised for his outburst at Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini. The Toon boss hurled abuse at the Chilean manager amidst the controversial 2-0 loss to Man City. He said afterwards: "I hear that it's been picked up a little bit, and I apologise for my comments 100 per cent. "It was a heat of the moment thing. "We just had words that we always have as managers, to a degree. I have apologised to him and fortunately for myself, he has accepted that. And reflecting on the equaliser from Cheick Tiote that wasn't, Pardew said: "I don't know, really, I don't know the answer to that. I did ask the fourth official, because he saw the whole picture and he could tell there was no interference, and he said, 'We don't really get involved in that mind of decision', whereas I thought in the past they may have, but maybe I'm wrong on that. "What can I say? The referee thought it was deflected, actually. e said to me, 'It got a deflection', which it didn't, so he obviously didn't see it how I saw it at all. ...

Alan Pardew: We've got to go and attack Man City by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle ALAN PARDEW will make his feelings crystal clear to his players this week as he looks to address Newcastle United's alarming form. The Toon boss has demanded a response from his troops after a worrying run of just one win from the last 10 games. And although the next two fixtures are against wounded Premier League champions Manchester City - still reeling from their last-gasp 3-2 derby loss against Man United - and then recovering Queens Park Rangers, who have been boosted by the appointment of Harry Redknapp, Pardew is still bravely targeting six points from the next two games. Pardew will have home advantage on his side as well as influential playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa fully fit after he emerged unscathed from the 2-1 loss at Fulham. But while Pardew has laid off his players during the poor run of form this season, he was quite rightly feeling let down by the sloppy defending which led to Hugo Rodagella's winner at Craven Cot ...

Am a very happy Toon Army fan today. Even though we lost to Everton (is Everton a real team? LOL) we came in 5th. I am not sure what I am more happy about, the fact we came in fifth ahead of Liverpool and Sunderland or the fact that Man City BEAT Man U. Quite a year for the Toon in any case! I am also very proud that Alan Pardew was named Manager of the year! Whoo Hoo! They'll be some serious celebrating in the Toon I am sure !
