Downs Best And Worst Moments Of 2014 Having covered this very topic of the best and worst moments for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates already, let’s now shift our focus on Mamelodi Sundowns and look at what may have been their best and worst moments of last year. Worst Moments The Punch Masenamela Saga For whatever reasons the defender did it, we all know what it was… Where he faked a kidnapping!! It did not reflect well on the player and on the club. Since then, it has been swept under the mat, however, it would always be one of the worst moments in 2014 for Sundowns. Khama Billiat Injury After winning the Absa Premiership last season, winger Khama Billiat made his position his own at Chloorkop. However, after picking up an injury which would see him miss many of this season's Absa Premiership games, the landed up missing his services last year, as the team struggled without him. Low Bafana Caps Despite being the champions in the country, very little Downs stars made the cut for the Bafana Baf ...
On paper, Pirates and Downs should be ahead of Chiefs, writes Daniel Mothowagae Squad depth Before this weekend’s matches, Mamelodi Sundowns had used 31 players in their Absa Premiership fixtures, Orlando Pirates had used 25 and Kaizer Chiefs only 21. With more than 10 attacking midfielders on their roster, the Sundowns midfield alone can win just about every piece of silverware on offer. The most obvious quality in coach Pitso Mosimane’s midfield is that he has the kind of midfielders who are all capable of scoring, with a ratio of three goals a game. The big names on this list are Teko Modise, Themba Zwane, Bongani Zungu, Anthony Laffor, Elias Pelembe, Khama Billiat and Lindokuhle Mbatha. Pirates also have 10 midfielders that have been utilised so far this season. Among them are Oupa Manyisa, Daine Klate, Khethokwakhe Masuku, Mpho Makola, Sifiso Myeni, Thabo Rakhale and Tlou Segolela. In contrast, Chiefs is limited in depth in midfield and coach Stuart Baxter has used a handful of midfielders in the ...

the Individual performances of the Mamelodi Sundowns players following their 2-0 win over Free State Stars. Here are the ratings: Kennedy Mweene: 6 A relatively easy night for the Zambian shot- stopper, but he did pull off a fine save to deny Tiyani Mabunda in the first half. Ramahlwe Mphahlele: 6 Solid performance from the fullback, who did well on both ends of the field. Alje Schut: 6 Another commanding display from the Sundowns captain and should have got his name on the score-sheet in the second half. Thabo Nthethe: 6 Worked well alongside Schut throughout the 90 minutes, but the Sundowns defence was hardly challenged. Punch Masenamela: 6 A much better performance from the left fullback, after disappointing against Supersport United. Bongani Zungu: 6 Another consistent performance from the young midfielder, who seems to be enjoying his football at the moment. Hlompho Kekana: 6 Kekana looks to be building up a good understanding with Zungu, while he did well to protect the back four. Teko Modise: 7 Ano ...

Downs Drubb Supersport In Tshwane Derby 04/Dec/2014 00:06 Mamelodi Sundowns powered through in the Tshwane Derby with an impressive 3-1 drubbing of Supersport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Khama Billiat, Themba Zwane and Teko Modise got the goals for The Brazilians against a high flying Amatsatsantsa side who just came back from winning the 2014 Telkom Knockout. It was the Tshwane neighbours who scored first through Sundowns on loan player Dove Wome early in the first half. A response was imminent from Coach Pitso’s men as they started ti press the visitors hard. Hlompho Kekana did well to find Cuthbert Malajila in the opposition box. The Zimbabwean hitman found Billiat who never hesitated to equalise for Sundowns with a cool finish. With the halftime break looming, The Brazilians kicked into second gear and went ahead through Themba Zwane who was putting in a man of the match performance on the day. There was drama as expected in a derby match, tempers fled and former Downs player Thuso Phala rec ...

Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the Gauteng Challenge final after thrashing Moroka Swallows 5-1 in the first match of the day. From the first whistle Sundowns were the better side. As early as the 28th minute The Brazilians went ahead through an Alje Schut header. Katlego Mashego doubled the tally for Downs with a brilliantly taken freekick from the edge of the box. Rodney Ramagalela showed real pace when he beat his man, then a cool finish to fire Downs 3 up. Themba Zwane steped up to the penalty spot and cooly slotted home Downs’ fourth. Wayne Sandilands was called into action and pulled a few saves to deny Swallows. Zwane capped a good perfomance with a neatly taken goal to give his side a 5-0 win. BAFANA Bafana’s trip to Australasia has turned into a circus! Earlier this week Bafana coach Gordon Igesund had 11 withdrawals and yesterday Mamelodi Sundowns star Teko Modise also snubbed his last-minute call-up. Bafana play Australia on Monday in Sydney and New Zealand next Friday in Auckland. It gets worse: Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus and Sthembiso Ngcobo of Bidvest Wits, who were replacements for the injured Bernard Parker, turned down the call-up because they are on holiday. Igesund had no other option but to go with fourth choice, Siphelele Mthembu of Platinum Stars, who had an average season, having scored five league goals. Kaizer Chiefs’ veteran midfielder, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, replaces Modise, who cited fatigue as he turned down the call-up. Wits midfielder Siyabonga Nhlapo is in for Oupa Manyisa, while Supersport United left-back Sibusiso Khumalo replaces Thabo Matlaba. A frustrated Igesund said neither of the two Pirates players showed up on Tuesday to be assessed by Bafana ...

Mamelodi Sundowns won the freindly 1-0 with Mamelodi coach Pitso Mosimane also praising the young lad and the whole Nkana team on its display. Ironically Sate Sate usually prefers to wear blue boots. These were not the last pair of boots Sate Sate received this year as shortly afterwards him and a few other Nkana players were rewarded with boots from Zamleather. Zamleather have manufactured a new boot called KALEZA which means LIGHTENING in many Of Zambias local languages. Chiefs.(0) 0 Downs.(0) 1 Mamelodi Sundowns closed in on league log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs after beating them 1-0 at the most talked about match of the weekend . A Teko Modise goal in the 76th minute snatched the win for The Brazilians at FNB Stadium to take Downs level on points with Chiefs at the top of the log. Both sides now sit on 52 points but Chiefs have one game in hand over Sundowns. The visiting Sundowns controlled the opening 15 minutes of the affair and asked lots of questions of the Chiefs defence, which stood firm despite some powerful running from the visitors Hlompho Kekana and Lebogang Mokoena had some early attempts at goal from long range and Mokoena’s shot tested Itumeleng Khune who had to tip the ball over the crossbar for a corner. Chiefs came close in the 16th minute when Siphiwe Tshabalala’s dangerous cross was tipped away by Kennedy Mweene with Kingston Nkhatha in close proximity. Arendse own-goal downs Downs. Kaizer Chiefs won their seventh successive game and went eight points clear at the top of the table after a 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday evening at Loftus Stadium.Downs were left to rue a twist of misfortune when Wayne Arendse turned the ball into the back of his own net in the first half, before seeing Surprise Moriri’s late goal ruled out for offside. Stuart Baxter handed George Maluleka his competitive debut by including him in the starting line-up, while Siphiwe Tshabalala was rested on the bench.Kick-off started half an hour later due to the amount of people coming into the stadium which resulted in a capacity crowd. The Brazilians showed their ambition with their counter-attacks from the first whistle and they needed just two minutes to rattle the woodwork with a long-range screamer by Teko Modise. The midfielder’s effort struck the upright of Itumeleng Khune’s goal, bounced down and rolled out for a corner-kick.But it was Chiefs who took the lea ...
Mamelodi Sundowns 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs: AmaKhosi go eight points clear at the top Wayne Arendse’s first half own goal handed AmaKhosi a 1-0 win over Sundowns in a match played at the Loftus Stadium on Thursday night Mamelodi Sundowns started the game with pace, and launched their first real attack inside the opening two minutes, but Katlego Mashego’s right-footed shot was blocked by Willard Katsande for a corner. Teko Modise was unfortunate not to have found the back of the net a few seconds later, as his long range shot came off the woodwork with Itumeleng Khune well beaten. However, it was AmaKhosi who took the lead in the 10th minute when Wayne Arendse deflected Bernard Parker’s out-of-the-box free-kick into his own net after he had fouled Tsepo Masilela. Chiefs then started dictating the pace of the game with their transition play, but they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities. Sundowns had their chances in the final third towards the half-hour mark, but Erick Mathoho stood firm, and often k ...

Black Aces 1 - 0 Mamelodi Sundowns: Mulenga strike halts PSL leaders Clifford Mulenga's 10th minute goal handed Mpumalanga Black Aces a shock 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns, as the Brazilians saw their advantage at the top of the table disappear Clifford Mulenga scored inside 10 minutes, as Aces shocked the Premiership leaders 1-0 in a Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday. Mulenga's clinical finish sent the league new-comers up into 9th on the table, while Pitso Mosimane's Sundowns now having lost to both of the newly-promoted teams from last season. Sundowns remain top of the log, and lead by two points, but are now equal on games with Kaizer Chiefs, who had played a game more than Bafana Ba Style. Sundowns played the better football and applied early pressure, but the hosts stood firm and waited their turn. Mamelodi Sundowns fan favourite, Teko Modise, is back in the thick of things. Before Sunday’s encounter against Moroka Swallows, the 30-year- old midfielder had last played against Polokwane City and was dropped for the games against Free State Stars and the University of Pretoria, with Pitso Mosimane preferring to start with Bongani Zungu. However, the former Bafana Bafana international seems to have worked his way back into the team. He started against the Dube Birds as Sundowns won 2-1 to stay top of the table.
Mashego brace sinks Swallows 01 December By SAPA Pretoria – A brace from Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mashego guided his team to a comfortable 2-1 victory over Moroka Swallows in a Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday afternoon. Mashego scored either side of half-time against his former team, as Sundowns consolidated top spot in the league standings, which puts them two points ahead of next best Kaizer Chiefs. Lerato Chabangu pulled a goal back late in the second half from a stunning free-kick, but it was not enough, as Sundowns held on for all three points. The hosts struggled to find their rhythm early on as Swallows' robust defensive effort quelled all of the Brazilians' visits into the opposing half. Chances were hard to come by for either teams, as Cuthbert Malajila, Teko Modise and Khama Billiat all enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening 25 minutes, but managed few attempts on goal. For Swallows, Chabangu was looking lively in the middle of the field, while Siyabonga Nomvethe a ...
Sundowns hit by identity theft A number of Mamelodi Sundowns players and officials have been subjected to identity theft, with the latest victim being Ghanaian international Rashied Sumalia. Left-back Punch Masenamela and Lebohang Mokoena have already had their cellphone simcards cloned three times each. Other Sundowns victims include Teko Modise, Alex Shakoane, Elias Pelembe, Daniel Mudau, Trott Moloto, assistant coach Alex Bapela and Katlego Mphela. Brazilians media officer Thulani Thuswa tells KickOff.com this is a problem at the club. "What happens is that when the simcards are cloned, people get access to the player's or official's phone details. These people then send messages to their relatives or people close to our employees saying that they are in trouble and are asking for money. This is a problem and we want to put an end to it," Thuswa says. Phone or simcard cloning is the transfer of identity from one cellular device to another

Mosimane expects more vintage Pitso Mosimane says Mamelodi Sundowns' brand-new ensemble have yet to fully settle despite their champagne performance against Bloemfontein Celtic in Botshabelo on Sunday. As is their annual custom, Sundowns fielded eight new signings in the 4-0 Telkom Knockout win over Celtic but this time most of them came good. The defensive machinery was screwed on tight while the midfield oozed horsepower. Right-back Bryce Moon was like a Gautrain down his flank while former University of Pretoria protégé Bongani Zungu, playing in a deeper midfield role, proved his defensive worth. And then there was the Dove Wome and Khama Billiat attacking show, which would have sent warning shots to the other PSL teams fighting for accolades this season. They showed a synergy that usually takes teams years to develop and they didn't even need former captain Teko Modise, who was an unused substitute in Free State.
