"Sundowns are a big team, you know. They have lots of money. So, if you're an established player in SA, then it's an ideal team for you. It's because they want to win things," Dolly explained. "I think it's working for them to buy all big players. For youngsters who go throught the ranks, it's a set back to be loaned out," he said. Agree with Dolly? Sundowns not for young stars?
Highlanders braced for player exodus A player exodus is looming at Highlanders that could force coach Kelvin Kaindu to seriously invade the transfer market next month. The biggest loss would be on-loan winger Kuda Mahachi who would be teaming up with his parent South African club Mamelodi Sundowns. Also certain to be leaving are Midfielder Peter Moyo who has already signed for Mpumalanga Black Aces while Milton Ncube is already on the books of Ajax Cape Town. The goalkeeping department is likely to be plunged into the biggest crisis as Ariel Sibanda is reported to be on his way to Chippa United while his colleague Munyaradzi Diya is believed to be following Moyo to Aces. This leaves Kaindu with only one experienced goalkeeper Njabulo Nyoni and would be in search of a reliable cover. “At the moment we are only certain that three guys are leaving but we cannot talk about who will be replacing the guys who will replace them. Of course they will be replaced,” Kaindu said. “They have to be replaced and w ...

The best buys of the Premiership season THE transfer market can be pretty hit or miss, but here is our list of the best buys from the 2013-14 PSL season. Richard Henyekane (Free State Stars): It is probably fair to say that Free State Stars would not have stayed in the Absa Premiership were it not for the goals of Henyekane, brought in on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns in January. He scored seven times, with those goals amassing eight precious points for Ea Lla Koto. Anssi Jaakkola (Ajax Cape Town): Jaakkola has been a revelation since arriving at Ajax and was the likely difference between safety and a real relegation scrap this campaign, winning his nomination for Goalkeeper of the Season at last night’s (SUNDAY) PSL awards. Coach Roger De Sa believes he was worth “at least 12 extra points” to the team. Frank Mhango (Bloemfontein Celtic): The Malawian international was not picked up after trials at AmaZulu, but proved that to be a monumental mistake as he scored nine goals in 14 starts at Bloemfontein ...

Premier Soccer League match reaction Mamelodi Sundowns 0-1 Orlando Pirates Pitso Mosimane says Mamelodi Sundowns missed the respective qualities of Khama Billiat, Alje Schut and Katlego Mashego in Tuesday night's 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates. The Brazilians were undone by a 37th minute goal from Man of the Match Khethokwakhe Masuku at Loftus Stadium. Billiat sat out the Premiership tie after controversially picking up a fourth booking in Sundowns' 1-0 victory over Ajax Cape Town in the Nedbank Cup last week, while captain Schut and striker Katlego Mashego are sidelined with injuries. Mamelodi Sundowns return to their fortress when they host Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in a league clash at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday night, as they look to close the gap on log-leading Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs, who lead the Brazilians by nine points, will be involved in a Caf Champions League fixture next weekend and will not be involved on the local scene, allowing Sundowns the opportunity of narrowing the deficit and playing one of their two games in hand over the Amakhosi. Sundowns have only lost a single game at home this season, against Chiefs, and will look to add three more points to their 20 points out of a possible 27 at Loftus. The Pretoria outfit head into the clash on the back of a league and Nedbank Cup double over Ajax Cape Town last week and are looking for a fourth consecutive Premiership win. Ajax Cape Town South Africa Premier Soccer League As predicted by Soccer Laduma, Ajax Cape Town have announced Roger De Sa as their new head coach. This follows the news that Muhsin Ertugral parted ways with the Ikamva-based club in January after the passing of his foster parent at home in Turkey during the Christmas holidays. The club therefore unveiled Ian Taylor as the interim coach, on the other hand, there had been speculation that the Urban Warriors have shortlisted a number of coaches including former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Johan Neekens, ex-Dutch international Patrick Kluivert among others. The Siya crew previously reported that De Sa had agreed terms with the club following his meeting with the Urban Warriors Executive Director, Ari Efstathiou, during the past weekend. Ari Efstathiou, Executive Director at Ajax Cape Town told the club's official website, “After a long deliberation and thorough analysis of all the applications that we have received, we believe that we have found the right man t ...
Pirates in keeper dilemma 2014-02-18 | Mazola Molefe Eric Tinkler, probably in charge of Orlando Pirates as interim coach for the last time, will again be faced with a goalkeeping dilemma tonight. Will it be Senzo Meyiwa or Fatau Dauda in goal for the Buccaneers against a struggling Ajax Cape Town side at Athlone Stadium? Tinkler will resume his role as assistant coach at the club once Vladimir Vermezovic sorts out his work permit, having been appointed as Roger De Sa's replacement last Friday. For now, Tinkler is calling the shots and with Meyiwa fully recovered from cramps suffered in the 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns over a week ago, the No1 jersey is up for grabs. At the weekend, when Pirates were surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Ghanaian Dauda was between the sticks. The Buccaneers confirmed on their website yesterday that Meyiwa would be making the trip to Cape Town for the club's second away match in under a week. The debate about who Tinkler should pick resur ...
Ajax Cape Town interim coach Ian Taylor voiced his disappointment in seeing his side fail to create chances from open play against Mamelodi Sundowns. A staggering five penalties were given during the Brazilians’ 3-2 victory over the Urban Warriors on Saturday evening and it was the away side who scored both from the six-yard spot. Sundowns missed two of their own and scored the other, and Taylor admits that he was upset over certain areas on the field. “I think the first penalty, with Thulani [Hlatshwayo], we should have had the free-kick first in my opinion,” Taylor said after the defeat. “When you are goal down early, against a team like this, then you have to start making some tactical changes. To be fair to the boys, we did take the game to them. “We didn’t create from open play and that is a bit worrying for us.” Nathan Paulse converted his penalty just before the interval, before Lance Davids did the same in stoppage time for Ajax. Taylor disappointed with uncreative Ajax “That was a ...
OPINION: Hats off to Stuart Baxter Posted: 14 February 2014 Nine straight wins, nine points clear at the summit and on the brink of Caf Champions League progress … surely there is a reinvention at Kaizer Chiefs. Even after winning the double last season, Chiefs still look hungry and determined to achieve more, and their recent streak of results is surely not by accident. They recorded impressive nine straight wins before they were eventually held by Maritzburg United to a 2-2 draw in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday evening. And at the helm of this satisfactory achievement is none other than Stuart Baxter. Yes, the same man some fickle fans bayed for his blood not so long ago. Prior to this week’s draw in Maritzburg, Baxter’s team had not lost or drawn a match since November 9, and even kicked off their Caf Champions League campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Namibia’s Black Africa last Saturday. After his much criticised 3-5-2 formation was outsmarted by then Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral, ...
Mamelodi Sundowns FC player who is on loan to Ajax Cape Town is eligible to play against his parent club, but Katleho Mphela and a host of others cannot. What does this intends to imply ??? However, Sundowns Communications Manager Thulani Thuswa said the case of Sundowns players on loan not playing against them is not what they always consider opting for and it's not a law at Chloorkop that if you are still contracted to them you can not play against them, but it's something that vary with contracts they negotiate and of course with players.

I Prefer Europe – Uzoenyi Rangers International of Enugu winger, Chrisantus Ejike Uzoenyi has opened up on his targets in the transfer market, with a confession that he felt no qualms about missing out on a deal in South Africa, as his sight is on playing in Europe instead. Although the 2014 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) most valuable player acknowledged that his initial stint in Europe, with Stade Rennes of France ended abruptly because he was not able to cope with the cold weather, he admits it would still be better for him to seek a return rather than opt for time in South Africa. Online media reports indicate that seven South Africa clubs are eager to sign the former Heartland of Owerri and Gateway United of Abeokuta fleet-footed star, with Orlando Pirates, Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns leading the way. Also showing interest in the 25-year-old player’s signature are Ajax Cape Town, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Platinum Stars and Kaizer Chiefs, but they may all end up disappointed, as ...

Khenyeza's future in balance 2014-02-11 | Nick Said Mpumalanga Black Aces forward Mabhuti Khenyeza should hear by Friday the outcome of his arbitration hearing in the case of his alleged spitting at a match official. After months of postponements, the arbitration was finally heard on Saturday and "went well", according to the player's representatives. Although no firm time frame has been set on when the final outcome will be made known, Aces co-owner Mario Morfou has told Sowetan he expected it to be by Friday at the latest. The 31-year-old stands accused of spitting towards assistant referee Zakhele Siwela during a defeat for his then club Ajax Cape Town against Mamelodi Sundowns in April last year. He was found guilty by a PSL Disciplinary Committee hearing last June and banned from football for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay the costs of the hearing. But an appeal to Safa in August saw the ban lifted and an effective R25000 fine put in its place. It has taken up until now for the matter to come ...
Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed former Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi as Pitso Mosimane's assistant coach with immediate effect. The 42-year-old mentor is expected to be on the bench when the Brazilians visit Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night, as begins his coaching career with the Tshwane giants. Mngqithi, who also coached AmaZulu and Chippa United in the PSL, becomes Mosimane's second assistant and will work hand-in-hand with Alex Bapela. "Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered the technical team by bringing in Manqoba Mngqithi as assistant coach. He assumes his duties immediately," the Brazilians confirmed on their official website. The KwaZulu Natal-born coach resigned as Arrows coach earlier this season, and despite reports that he might return to take over from Mark Harrison, Mngqithi has taken an offer from Sundowns. He led Abafana Bes'thende to their first ever PSL Cup glory back in 2009, hammering Ajax Cape Town 6-0 in the final of the MTN 8, and Sundowns are certain that ...
De Sa not moving to Ajax... yet 03 February By John Goliath Cape TownRoger De Sa will not be joining Ajax Cape Town. At least not over the next few weeks. De Sa quit as coach of Orlando Pirates on Friday and has been linked to fill the vacant Ajax coaching position after Muhsin Ertugral left the Cape side last month. Ertugral, in turn, has been linked to the Bucs job. However, the Cape Times understands that Ajax’s interim coach Ian Taylor has been given the next three games to audition for the job. Taylor lost his first game in charge 2-1 against De Sa’s Pirates last week. And over the next two weeks he faces three tough games against AmaZulu in Durban on Tuesday, Wits at Cape Town Stadium on Friday night and a massive clash against Mamelodi Sundowns away on February 15. According to insiders at Ajax, De Sa “has put up his hand” to take over the Cape side’s hot seat. However, his appointment can only be sanctioned by the Urban Warriors’ majority shareholder Ajax Amsterdam, who have the l ...

DIBANGO CONFIDENT “It was a very good performance (against Gabon) and their coach was even saying our team is very strong. He was really impressed. “I think it has all to do with the preparations that we put in place for these finals. Results at this stage do not matter, but just the performance. It gives you that extra confident going into the first match,” Gorowa told NewsDay Sport from Cape Town yesterday afternoon. The Warriors open their campaign against Morocco on Sunday and this is the match that Gorowa prefers to talk about. “It’s a tough match like I have always said, but we are also ready. It all depends on how we apply ourselves. I have confidence in these boys, but we need to take it one game at a time and really focus on the first game, but I am confident the boys can do something,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach said. Today, they play Ajax Cape Town at Ikamva to wind up their preparations. The Warriors arrived in the Mother City at 1330hrs yesterday afternoon. On today’s ma ...
SuperSport likely to turn down Doutie offers Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns have been linked with Doutie recently. Goal investigates the status quo on the Supersport United player By Austin Ditlhobolo 07 Jan 2014 Supersport United winger Sameehg Doutie is focused on his career at Matsatsantsa, despite interest from other teams. His agent Paul Mitchell confirmed the player's situation, as Goal spoke to Siyavuma Sport Agency. The Former Ajax Cape Town star is illegible to sign a pre-contract with any team because his current deal with United will expire on the 30th of June 2014. "I cannot speculate. All I can say is that we previously had three offers for Doutie from Europe in August 2013, and for whatever reason Supersport didn't listen to the offers at the time," Paul Mitchell told Goal. The Former Orlando Pirates player has been one of Matsatsantsa's most consistent performers this season, which has led to him attracting attention from top teams in the PSL. So it didn't come as a surprise when Bidves ...

Downs, who are five points richer than fifth-placed United, are also smarting from a recent 1-0 defeat to promoted Mpumalanga Black Aces. Despite interest from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns for the signature of George Maluleka, Supersport United's Cavin Johnson is confident Matsatsantsa can hold onto their playmaker 15 Dec 2013 Cavin Johnson insists Mamelodi Sundowns' interest in SuperSport's George Maluleka is purely part of a ploy to unsettle their neighbours and has come out in support of the nuggety midfielder. “It’s part of mind-games, I believe, that even newspapers themselves start doing," Johnson said in Pretoria on Saturday. “There was interest in George Maluleka two seasons ago from Sundowns. Did they buy him? No they didn’t, so what can they do?" Although Johnson wants the Former Ajax Cape Town playmaker to stay at Matsatsantsa, he admitted Sundowns would be a tempting offer for Maluleka. “They (Sundowns) say, ‘Georgie you can come to Sundowns, we can play around with a pen and see what happens’. “For me it’s just a lot of mind-games." Meanwhile, Johnson has played down reports that United are in an advanced stage of ...

Good old days cc Siyabonga Gichana Victor Milimu Kollo Faisal Nabiswa Okinyi Mike Bennett Masinga The 33 goals scored by Bennett Masinga for Sundowns in 1990 is still the most goals scored by a Sundowns player in a single season. In 1993, ‘Benito’ was a veteran striker and had to compete his cousin Phil and new kid on the block Daniel Mudau for a place in the starting line-up. After a successful spell with Sundowns, Masinga moved to Cape Town in 1996 where he joined First Division side Seven Stars and helped the team win promotion to the top flight. In 1999 he was among a few Seven Stars players who were part of Ajax Cape Town during the club’s formation. In 1999 he joined Santos and was loaned to the struggling Hellenic before moving to Blomfontein Celtic after they were relegated from the Premiership. Philemon Masinga Having begun his professional career with Jomo Cosmos in 1988, ‘Chippa’ Masinga moved to Mamelodi Sundowns in 1992 and only scored a disappointing three goals. But in the 1993 s ...
Defender Lucky Lekgwathi has broken Calvin Marlin’s record of most top-flight starts by a player still active in the PSL. Lekgwathi started for the 378th time, one more than Mpumalanga Black Aces reserve goalkeeper Marlin, in Bucs' 3-2 League defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday at Orlando Stadium. Marlin last played a game for Mamelodi Sundowns on April 21 last year, while he has featured just 19 times since May 2009. Lekgwathi, who has 388 top-flight outings in total, made his first PSL start for Ria Stars in July 2000, two years after making his professional debut as a substitute for Real Rovers. The 37-year-old went on to make 61 starts for Stars before switching to Bucs in 2002. He has made 317 starts for the Buccaneers, 58 less than the retired Williams Okpara, who holds the club record. Lekgwathi, capped 14 times for Bafana Bafana, and Brett Evans are the only South Africans to play over 300 games for one club in the PSL era, which started in 1996. The PSL’s Most Fouled Earlier today the Siya crew looked at which players in the PSL commit the most fouls and now we look at which players are fouled the most. The crew took at look at our Soccer-Laduma stats in order to see which of the players in the PSL are fouled the most regularly and which team they play for. Somewhat surprisingly, it is two Ajax Cape Town players that top the list as the most fouled, with Franklin Cale and Granwald Scott both being fouled, on average, three times per game. Bloemfontein Celtic man, John Arwuah, closely follows the pair with 2.75 per game, while Lerato Chabangu, of Moroka Swallows, is fouled around 2.7 times on average in the PSL. Fifth on the list is Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Khama Billiat, who is illegally halted 2.63 times. Interestingly, looking at the top 25 most fouled players in the PSL, only four, Chabangu, Billiat, Tsepo Masilela and Innocent Mdledle are from the current top three teams in the league. Masilela, of Kaizer Chiefs, is fouled 1.91 times pe ...
KHAMA, KHAMA AND MORE Khama Billiat IT’S all about Khama Billiat in South Africa these days. And he’s worth every million Mamelodi Sundowns paid for the Zimbabwean football star from Ajax Cape Town and he has started repaying the Brazilians. On Sunday, he scored twice in Sundowns’ 4-0 mauling of Bloemfontein Celtic in the first round of the Telkom Knockout, the second being an assist from fellow countryman Cuthbert Malajila, who played 74 minutes of the match. There is still no place for veteran holding midfielder Esrom Nyandoro, who has just returned from injury, on the Sundowns bench. There was no place either for Rodreck Mutuma in the Celtic line up. And the 3-0 loss marked the end of Clinton Larsen as head coach of Celtic, meaning Mutuma will now have to work extra hard to impress the next man in charge, likely Manqoba Mngqithi, who also quit Golden Arrows. For now, Celtic assistant coach Boebie Solomons will take over in a caretaker capacity. Knowledge Musona was also on target, scoring the th ...

Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral has already picked Mamelodi Sundowns to be League champions come the end of the season.
Downs should be too strong for Ajax 17 September By HOSEA RAMPHEKWA Mamelodi Sundowns should have no trouble negotiating their way to victory against a lethargic Ajax Cape Town side tonight. While Ajax have been huffing and puffing with no success this season, Sundowns have not done that badly. Ajax, who were rocked by boardroom squabbles last season, are yet to win a match this season while Sundowns, who they host at the Cape Town Stadium this evening, have managed two victories and one draw so far this season. The chips are likely to be down at Ajax. They have had to deal with unfavourable fixtures, which have not only seen them get little action but also led to them doing badly. Ajax have collected just one point from possible nine following two losses and a draw. They face a mountainous task to shrug off their poor form when they clash with a star studded Sundowns team that is second on the log with seven points after two wins and a draw. Ajax have not been done favours by recent international breaks ...

ZIMBABWE international forward Khama Billiat spoke of his excitement yesterday as he got another big chance to break into Europe after being offered a trial stint at top Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow. Billiat was last night expected to fly out from Cape Town to Slovenia to join the Russian giants for their pre-season training camp. The Ajax Cape Town hotshot has been in demand in the off-season, with Absa Premiership giants Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns heavily linked with a move for his signature. Such has been the huge interest on Billiat’s services that his club had even put a R10 million price tag on him, about a US$1 million at the time they made the valuation, to ensure only serious contenders put in their bid for the winger. Although such a figure would scare away potential suitors in South Africa, it is small change when it comes to European clubs and, in the event that Billiat passes his trials, he could go for about three or four times what Ajax Cape Town had put on his head for a do ...

Ajax Cape Town striker Mabhuti Khenyeza is waiting for Safa Appeals Board to decide the date of his hearing after appealing his suspension. Orlando Pirates bid for Billiat t ZIMBABWE WARRIORS star Khama Billiat has emerged as a surprise target for South African giants Orlando Pirates, who have officially made their offer for the Ajax Cape Town midfielder. — Soccer Laduma/Kick Off Pirates join Mamelodi Sundowns in their quest for the Zimbabwe star as they seek to build formidable sides for the 2013/2014 Absa Premiership campaign. Pirates are also taking part in the group stages of the Caf Champions League and are allowed to register new players, hence their intentions in making sure that Billiat joins fellow Zimbabwean Takesure Chinyama at the Soweto giants. Soccer Laduma reported yesterday that Billiat has got one year left to run on his contract with Ajax and the club has to make a decision on whether they will keep a hold on him or cash in on his sale. However, with Mabhuti Khenyeza’s 12-month ban from all football activities under the auspices of the PSL, the Cape side may be reluctant to sell Billiat. Another Zimbabwean, Chippa United ...
Former Zimbabwe international Ian Gorowa’s name has become the latest to be added to the long list for the vacant Platinum Stars head coach job. Already several CVs from within the border and abroad have been piling up for the job at the Phokeng headquarters. Ian Palmer and Neil Tovey headline the list of local coaches being considered in the race to find the man to take over from Cavin Johnson. Gorowa is currently without a club after being elbowed out of the assistant coaching job at Ajax Cape Town in April when Muhsin Ertugral took over. The 41-year-old has lengthy coaching experience in South Africa, having started out as a development coach at Ajax in 2002 before moving on to the senior team two years later. He has also coached at Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns, where he also held several other posts within the club. Word reaching KickOff.com is that if Stars don’t keep Allan Freese – who served as assistant to Johnson – the club intends appointing someone who has previously coached in ...
THE younger brother to Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona could be move to the South African Premier league after it was confirmed he would attend trials at Mamelodi Sundowns. Walter Musona is tipped to be a prodigious talent, possibly greater than his older brother, and has already been for trials with English Premiership giants Chelsea two years ago and Ajax Cape Town, but is said to have matured since then. The 17-year-old forward will try his luck at Chloorkop, having come through the same Aces Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) that developed his brother before his highly successful move to Chiefs and ultimately a career in the German Bundesliga. "Walter will be going for trials at Sundowns, who said they want to have a look at him. We are confident in his ability, he should be able to make it," AYSA owner Nigel Munyati told reporters. No date has been given for the trials, but it is likely to be in the coming weeks, with Sundowns returning to pre-season training today. The AYSA also produced Ajax Cape Tow ...

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates make offers for Ajax Cape Town speedy winger, Khama Billiat. F90m®
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker, currently playing for Ajax Cape Town Mabhuti Khenyeza have been suspended for a year in all football competitions. This comes after the striker spitted in the lines man Sewela in the game against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mabhuti Khenyeza (30) has been banned for 12 months by PSL DC for having spat at Zakhele Siwela (assistant referee) after he was redcarded in April when his Ajax Cape Town played against Mamelodi Sundowns. I wonder whether coach Mushin Ertugral will play him when his one-year ban ends. This guy is ill-disciplined.
I wonder with all the signings that Mamelodi Sundowns are making currently (Bryce Moon, Kennedy Mweene, Dave Wome, Sibusiso Kumalo, etc) with all the stars they have (Wayne Sandilands, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Teko Modise, Dennis Onyango, Elias Pelembe, etc), will they make it to the top again? Where is our country going in terms of development? Will we see Bafana Bafana, Ama glug-glug, going somewhere if this persists? I am worried.

Top 10 PSL signings of the season By Tshepang Mailwane Johannesburg – Tshepang Mailwane assesses the most astute signings of the 2012/13 Premiership season. Eric Mathoho (Bloemfontein Celtic to Kaizer Chiefs) Mathoho did not allow Patrice Motsepe’s millions to lure him to Mamelodi Sundowns, instead choosing to join Kaizer Chiefs, the club he supported as a boy. Today, Mathoho is a league and cup double winner with Amakhosi, having featured regularly for the club in defence as they conceded only 21 goals in 30 matches. It’s certainly proven to be a great decision to snub Sundowns, where he felt he would not have played much. Mathoho partnered Tefu Mashamaite in central defence and together they kept out some of the country’s most talented attackers. Mathoho was solid and calm in defence for Amakhosi. Katlego Mashego (Golden Arrows to Moroka Swallows) Last season’s top scorer, Siyabonga Nomvethe, sustained an injury early on in the campaign, a big blow for the Dube Birds. Katlego Mashego stepped i ...
