So, the guy who can't do basic math as Majority Whip, Steve Scalise (he of KKK/White Supremacist fame) is throwing hat into Speaker's race?
I don't know if the leadership of the House of Representatives can ask Steve Scalise to step down from his position an Majority Whip when some in the party considered for Speaker Ted Yoho and Louie Gohmert. I don't know that speaking at a Klan rally disqualifies someone from the tea party wing of the Republican Party.
Republicans have given Majority Leadership to The Honorable Kevin McCarthy from CA. Steve Scalise as Majority Whip
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) confirms he spoke at a white supremacy group, KKK, event
Steve Scalise should resign as house majority whip .Louisiana can keep him.
From: Gary L. Bauer New House Leadership Yesterday House Republicans huddled on Capitol Hill to elect new leaders in the aftermath of Rep. Eric Cantor's shocking primary defeat. California's Kevin McCarthy was elected to replace Cantor as Majority Leader, while Louisiana's Steve Scalise was chosen to be Majority Whip. There was not much enthusiasm among conservatives for McCarthy. But these results may be temporary as leadership elections for the new Congress will take place after the November elections.
Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is the new Majority Leader. Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA) is the new Majority Whip.
Congratulations to Steve Scalise for being elected Majority Whip in the U.S. House of Representatives. I am very proud of you.
Very pleased with the House GOP vote to elect LA Congressman Steve Scalise as Majority Whip!
Congratulations to Congressman Steve Scalise for being elected Majority Whip, the post in the House of Representatives!
Yesterday in the House Republican Conference I introduced a motion to delay the vote for the Majority Leader of the Republican Party for one week. I did this so we would be able to do our due diligence and have the needed time to vet the candidates. This would also allow time for other members to enter the race and campaign. My motion was not accepted and the vote was held today. This is a critical vote not just for the Republican conference in Congress but also for the direction of the Republican Party and our nation. This is why I believed we should have given more people more time to put their names forward for the position. The next Majority Leader stands a good chance to be the next Speaker of the House. Given the importance of this vote today, we should have given it more time. The direction of our party and our nation will not improve until we have leadership that has a strong vision for America. Therefore, I supported Raul Labrador for Majority Leader and Steve Scalise for Majority Whip.
I congratulate Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise on being elected Majority Leader and Majority Whip, respectively. I look forward to continue working with both of them in their new roles. I know both will continue to listen to the Hoosier delegation as we represent the interests of Indiana and our nation in Congress.
CONGRESSMAN PEARCE: I CONGRATULATE MCCARTHY, SCALISE Washington, DC (June 19, 2014) Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement about today’s House vote to elect Congressman Kevin McCarthy as Majority Leader and Congressman Steve Scalise as Majority Whip. “I congratulate Congressman McCarthy and Congressman Scalise following today’s vote for new House leadership,” said Congressman Steve Pearce. “I also want to applaud all candidates involved in this important process for providing one of the most transparent and informative leadership election dialogues that I have been involved with. The House has emerged from the election more unified than ever.”
HOUSE CONSERVATIVES MAKING LEADERSHIP HEADWAY! Karen Iacovelli 6/18/2014 The House Leadership vote is tomorrow, and it appears that there is a "done deal"...mind you, not official, but decided. As expected, Majority Whip, moderate Kevin McCarthy from CA's 23rd Congressional District, will replace Eric Cantor as Majority Leader. The anticipated new House Whip, is Steve Scalise, from Louisiana's 1st Congressional District. As reported by Breitbart on June 16, " Scalise is the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, the Republican's 173-member strong conservative caucus...and "is pitching colleagues on the importance of having someone from a "red" state at the leadership table who will push Speaker John Boehner to the right." Insiders have said that Scalise's appointment is now a mere formality. Conservative representatives have had concerns about Scalise, and Scalise is on the defensive, stating that his role as RSC chairman has been to try to work internally to advance conservative goals. For the ...
So apparently Majority Leader Eric Cantor will resign the Majority Leadership effective July 31. Apparently the two declared candidates for Majority Leader is incumbent Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy and Congressman Pete Sessions. Congressmen Steve Scalise and Peter Roskam have also declared for Majority Whip. Other conservatives want Congressmen Jeb Hensarling or Tom Graves to go for Majority Leader, and Congressman Jim Jordan and Congresswoman Cathy Rodgers are potentials for the Majority Leadership. Currently, my personal favorite is for Congresswoman Rodgers. She has proven conservative credentials, she's a natural-born leader, and it will look good to have a Republican Woman as our Leader, to scratch those "War on Women" arguers. If Majority Whip McCarthy gets it though, I would like to see her or Congressman Scalise for Majority Whip. Congressman Scalise has run the RSC, a strong conservative caucus, and has conservative backings. He helped create the House Republicans health care reform bill. ...
