For the Attention of Mohan Deep: Luck Again? Sharad Bailur / Blog / 5 yrs ago / 2 AA+A++ Edit Blog In some ways India has been an extraordinarily lucky nation. Right from before the time of Independence we have faced major political problems and, throughout, this country has had good luck, nothing else, coming in as its knight in shining armour, most often at the last moment. This does not happen to other countries. The two countries that became independent along with India on the same day Pakistan and Bangladesh have had histories that prove the opposite. So have our other neighbours – Nepal, Burma (Myanmar) and Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Let us begin with Mahatma Gandhi. He proved such a spectacular success because he had faith in the ‘essential goodness of human nature’. An essential concomitant of this faith was that British human nature was susceptible to moral blackmail. It worked on the British. It would not have worked on the Germans or any other European power, or, say, the Taliban, the Al Qaida . ...

for Gandhi worshippers who think he was responsible for independence .lets get out of our text books shall we :) Many reasons contributed to India's independence post World War 2, certainly none of them has anything related to Mahatma Gandhi or any of his movements. The Quit India Movement which is so publicized was The economic condition of Britain after World War 2 was not very good. The impact was so profound that once a mighty empire, received loan emergency loan of $3.75 billion (not counted as a part of Marshall plan) and $3297 million from 1948-1951. Due to its economic condition, primarily, British also left Jordan in 1946, Palestine in 1947, Sri Lanka in 1948, Myanmar in 1948, and Egypt in 1952. It was not at all in a position to support it military operations in India to crush the independence movement. India was no longer a profitable for British. At the end of World War I, India was asked to pay a large sum in order to help Britain repair it's finances but conditions were different from the ve ...
Gandhi's credit for Indian Independence a blunder!- While Gandhi is credited with vanquishing the mighty British Empire almost single-handedly, we find hardly any discussion of other factors that contributed to its fall:the irreversible world trend towards decolonization, the debilitating impact of the the second World War on Briton, or US. pressure on Britain- factors that helped other nations achieve independence, including Burma( Myanmar in 1948) or Ceylon( Sri Lanka, also in 1948), without their having had a leadership of a Gandhi. Naturally, there is even less discussion of Gandhi's blunders, such as the Khilafat movement which in effect strengthened the demand of radical Muslim politics, ultimately paving the way for India's partition- Michel Danino. Charu Majumdar- India's distinguished historian felt compelled reject "the generally accepted view which gave Mahatma Gandhi the "sole credit for the freedom of India". He explained : " it has been my painful duty to show that.the popular image of Gandh ...

History is the philosophy of nations. And the Sangh Parivar has a very clear and candid conception of Indian history. Here was a great civilization whose glory spread from Sri Lanka to Java and Japan and from Tibet and Mangolia to China and Siberia. While it weathered the storms of Huns and Shakas and Greeks it wilted before the Islamic storms of the Turks. However, a 1000-year resistance saw this country bloodied but unbowed. Its civilization survived through the heroic efforts of the Vijayanagar Empire and of Shivaji, Rana Pratap and Guru Govind Singh and countless heroes and martyrs. In more recent times this torch was picked up by Swami Dayanand and Swami Vivekanada. And in the present century the good work has been carried on by Sri Aurobindo, Lokmanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi and others. The RSS, founded by Dr Hedgewar in 1925 and consolidated by Shri Guruji after 1940, is the heir to this heroic, historic heritage. It has nothing against Muslim Indians - as distinguished from Muslim invaders. Its posi ...

www.lilaamrit.org -Meeting with Mahatma Gandhi At that time in India the political situation was quite unstable. Mahatma Gandhi and his helpers did what they could for the independence of the country. However, the British tried to suppress all efforts for freedom and kept the Indian people down by force and inflicted severe punishment. The Indians were afraid of the British rulers, who had a great army equipped with modern weapons, while they were armed only with their courage and bravery. Many of them believed that to rebel against the powerful British Empire would be futile. Mahaprabhuji encouraged them to strive for freedom through patience and perseverance and not with force. Mahaprabhuji foretold that an end would soon come to British rule and due to his inspiration, hundreds of Indians regained courage through belief in his protection. Once when Mahaprabhuji and some disciples were in Mount Abu they decided to go to Sabarmati, the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi came to the door of the ashram to we ...
