Famous People who died in 2012 We said goodbye to many iconic figures—the first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong and the first American woman in space, Sally Ride. We lost writers such as Ray Bradbury, Maeve Binchy, Maurice Sendak and Nora Ephron. We said farewell to musicians and singers who left an indelible mark on the soundtrack of our times—among them Whitney Houston, Davy Jones, Donna Summer, Etta James, Robin Gibb, Kitty Wells, Adam Yauch and Ravi Shankar. We also lost great actors such as Ernest Borgnine, Larry Hagman, Michael Clarke Duncan, Jack Klugman and Sherman Hemsley, as well as TV personalities such as Andy Griffith, Phyllis Diller, *** Clark and Don Cornelius.

Crime Drama, Thriller etc etc, any and all suggestions most welcome.

2012 was a sad year in that we lost some great authors who have meant so much to literature. We will miss: Jan Berenstein, Maurice Sendak, Ray Bradbury, Donald Sobol, Maeve Binchy, and Gore Vidal. CF

2012 book review continued 2012 was also the year in which we lost a number of fantastic authors including children’s author Maurice Sendak, science fiction pioneer Ray Bradbury and the heavily decorated Maeve Binchy. We said goodbye to William *** - the carpenter who continued the Southern Gothic traditions of William Faulkner and Thomas Wolfe, Harry Crews – who escaped grinding poverty of the Okefenokee Swamp and survived the Korean War to gain a cult following for his gritty novels like Feast of Snakes, and Dora Saint – (AKA Miss Read) who will be remembered for her two series of novels set in the British countryside, the Fairacre novels and the Thrush Green novels.
Well, here we go again. Another year gone by, another one on the horizon. I'm glad to see it though, I have to say. This year we said goodbye to Malcolm, my step-dad's nephew who, unbeknown to us, turned out to be a very well respected and popular Southend Utd supporter. His wake was at Shrimpers and there was a minute's silence before the next home game. What a star. We also said goodbye to Eric Sykes, Etta James, Fontella Bass, Gerry Anderson, Gore Vidal, Eve Arnold, Ravi Shankar, Davy Jones, Whitney, Bert Wheedon, Maurice Sendak, the awesome Ray Bradbury, Nora Ephron, Maeve Binchy, Andy Williams, Larry Hagman, Neil Armstrong, Adam Yauch, Donna Summer, Rodney King, Vidal Sassoon. Phew. That's a lot of great guys. Let''s hope 2013 sees a big baby boom of new talent. Happy New Year to you all. Syd x

It was Amanda Craig, though you've probably already been told that. Really nasty piece on Maeve Binchy (IMO)
Reading Tara Road by Maeve Binchy, so good! Love lazy cold mornings!
"You're my mother's favorite author!" I get that a lot. It's high praise indeed. Who is YOUR mom's fave? My mom adores Maeve Binchy and Adriana Trigiani, Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou.
Laura Hillenbrand, Maeve Binchy and Elizabeth George on my reading list...tired of e-books. Nothing beats curling up in a comfy chair with a good book
Soledad O'Brien CNN presenter. Must be love child of John Steinbeck and Maeve Binchy.
Just finished The Casual Vacancy. If I didn't know who'd written it and was just looking for a holiday read with a good plot and some vicious, well observed characterisation, I'd say it was pretty good. You know that bit at the end of a Kindle book where it says 'people who bought this also bought...'? The first recommendation is Maeve Binchy. Nuff said.
A new garden developed and landscaped at the rear of Dalkey library in Co Dublin was dedicated last night to “the memory of one of Dalkey’s and indeed Ireland’s most highly esteemed and best-loved citizens, author Maeve Binchy”.
I wished reading burned more calories because I could do it for hours on end! Rereading some Maeve Binchy novels. She passed away a couple of months ago and it makes me sad there won't be any more new ones. She always told a good story.
Lots of new faces on the Gateway Women 'Role Model" Gallery including... Kate Adie, Frances Barber, Maeve Binchy,...
It took me a while to figure this out (or maybe I’m thinking too much.. hehe) "I have always loved Susie, since the very first day we met. She invited me to her home and gave me somewhere to live. I tried to make her life easier for her but there was always this language problem. How could I find the words in any language to tell her what everyone knew? That her husband Rob was unfaithful to her. I knew he was there in their bed with her best friend. I begged her not to go in. Did she listen to my appeal? No. She just patted me on the head. "Silly little cat," she said. -Maeve Binchy (Readest Digest)
Had a very entertaining night at our local cafe Fiore. It is mostly expats that visit it. We had an overweight 61yo English guy with a 13yo son, a 51yo *** English guy with an ex wife and kids who plays rugby union for Lao, and likes photography,a 25yo southern Irish guy who teaches English at the local international school and has only been in the country for 7 weeks, then there was the ex southern Irish priest who would be in his 60's with a Lao wife and a 3 yo son and another one on the way and then there was plain old boring us married for nearly 33 years with a house with a white fence and car in the driveway! it was like something you would read in a Maeve Binchy novel, but a real fun night.
Synopsis: When Noel learns that his terminally ill former flame is pregnant with his child, he agrees to take guardianship of the baby girl once she’s born. But as a single father battling demons of his own, Noel can’t do it alone. Fo...
Big progress here: 1) the kids are officially recognized as Danish citizens and getting their passports, 2) the kids are registered for school, and 3) a librarian took pity on my waiting-for-paperwork status and let me have a library card based on my US driver's license. I exist! They only have about 100 books in English, but until I speak Danish, that's a good start! First pick: Maeve Binchy's "Tara Road"; really enjoying it.
Good night! Hot water bottle and Maeve Binchy awaits. Am I middle aged do you think?
I know I'm a bit slow at the moment, but I only just found out that Maeve Binchy died! I never manage to keep up with current affairs.

"He has spikey hair... as if he made an unsuccessful attempt to do a Brylcreem job on it". Maeve Binchy meets Beckett.
Just found out one of my favorite authors, Maeve Binchy passed away on July 30, 2012. She wrote many books, at least 16 novels and several short stories. You may remember "Circle of Friends". She also wrote for Oprah Magazine and Good Housekeeping. Her writings were always about her homeland Ireland. She lived in Dublin with husband Gorden Snell. She truly was a weaver of magic whose stories touched hearts of millions! I could not believe the news, as I was actually reading last year's novel "Minding Frankie"! when I heard.
I'll miss new reads by Maeve Binchy.
also umm the 50 shades books? Anything by maeve binchy good one is minding Frankie. What sort of book do you want?

Maeve Binchy: final novel to be published in November
One of the books on Ash's summer reading list was "The Hunger Games". Last year the main book was "Circle of Friends" by Maeve Binchy. My thoughts.while yes, these ARE contemporary books enjoyed as fiction by many, WHAT-EVER HAPPENED to the days when CLASSIC WORKS OF LITERATURE were on the prescribed reading lists? Is it the case that we've now conceded that since kids don't like to particularly pick up books like "Pride and Prejudice" any more, we've now resorted to the idea that "something is better than nothing?" Not to mention that I hear "The Hunger Games" has a bit of a violent theme running thru it? Don't kids get enough of THAT in video games, rap music and sadistic films? (Sounding REALLY old-fashioned here btw!!!)
Angelina , who is like a sister to me, bought me lunch today at Archie's Restaurant. Tuesday the Senior special is fish and chips. It was good. I am hoping to get reinstated on the supply list with the separate school board. It will depend on their need in September. I miss going into the classroom. And I plan to do the Rosary Apostolate if they need me still at a school accessible by bus. I am reading "Tess of the D'ubervilles" by Thomas hardy. It is a classic written in older English. It is our book club pick for September. I am also reading short stories by Maeve Binchy set in Ireland and Australia. I will apply this autumn to the PHd program in Education at Western. And, if accepted, it woudn't begin for me until September, 2013.
So Sad to hear that authoress, Maeve Binchy has died after a brief illness. She was 72. If any of you don't know who that is, you may be most familiar with her book "Circle of Friends". I have always loved her books and will miss her wonderful portraitures of characters and places.

Tara Road by Maeve Binchy gave a lesson to me how important to own house rather than car. After finished read this novel, i felt like want to go to Dublin Ireland to find whether is that old big house,Number 15,Street of Tara, renovated by a modern interior design is existence or just fantasy by the author.huhuhu. Is that Danny Lynch and Ria is real? because i felt alive when followed this story. huhu
I'd like people to think I was a good friend and a reasonable story-teller and to know that thanks to all the great people, family and friends that I met, I was very, very happy when I was here. ~Maeve Binchy Saddened to hear about the passing of a gifted story teller. She will be missed ♥
