How to reform and how not to THE HINDU An impression has gained ground in recent weeks that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre is inimical to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Part of the reason for this is the notion that this was a “partisan” programme benefitting only a certain political dispensation. The short history of the programme makes it clear that this is patently untrue. Indeed, some of the best work under MGNREGA has happened in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled States. This year, the National Award for Leadership in MGNREGA Implementation went to the Government of Chhattisgarh. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is a strong votary of the programme, and under his dynamic leadership, some of the most innovative work in implementing MGNREGA on watershed principles has been initiated. Nitish Kumar, as Chief Minister of Bihar, worked hard to explore imaginative, decentralised solutions to the flood problem, using resources av ...

Attacks on RTI activists in India Many Right to Information Act (RTI) activists, including policemen, have been harassed and even murdered for seeking information to "promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority" in India. Many face assaults on a regular basis. People seeking information from their gram panchayat and the local administration also face social ostracism. A few activists who sought information under RTI related to MNREGA scams, were killed.[1][2][3] Many threats and attacks (including murder) go unreported by the media.[4] Rising voices RTI activists are vulnerable human rights defenders (HRDs) in India. Unlike other HRDs, a majority of the RTI activists are not part of an organisation; they often act alone, moved by anger at corruption and other illegal activities. RTI activists are vulnerable because they live in the same areas as public authorities and political leaders who do not want information about their activities to be disclosed. For the most par ...

The first major campaign of the Jana Sangh was an agitation demanding the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir into India. Mookerjee was arrested for violating orders preventing him from leading the protest in Kashmir, and died in jail a few months later, of a heart attack. The leadership of the organisation devolved onto Deendayal Upadhyaya, and eventually next-generation leaders such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L. K. Advani . However, the vast majority of the party workers, including Upadhyaya, were still adherents of the RSS. Despite the momentum gained through the Kashmir agitation, the Jana Sangh won just three Lok Sabha seats in the first general elections in 1952. It maintained a minor presence in parliament until 1967. During this period, a uniform civil code for all Indians, banning cow slaughter, and abolishing the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir were among the main points on the party's agenda. [9][10][11] After nationwide assembly elections in 1967, the party entered into a coal ...

Muharat Pujan Muharat pujan is held on the fourth day of Diwali and is meant for those devotees who had missed their Chopda Pujan or Sharda pujan (I haven't talked about these. Will do do some other time. These are business community specific.) The symbolism of Muharat Pujan is same as Chopda Pujan and Sharda Pujan, as this puja is very relevant for anyone who uses and earns money, not just businessmen. It encourages people to respect money and also teaches us to pray to obtain more empowerment to use surplus income for good causes and not just to hoard it. Thus, businesses and every Hindu households perform Muharat pujan to clean up the accounting. On this day also, the worship of Laxmi continues to seek her blessings for success and happiness. Muharat Pujan is also taken upon as a puja that is auspicious for starting any new venture. During this puja, all family members are dressed up in new clothes, wearing fine jewelery. Muharat pujan is very popular among the business communities of Gujarat, Rajastha ...

The governments in Andhra and Odisha, which also lies in the storm’s path, will start massive evacuations on Saturday and has put the local administration on high alert. In Visakhapatnam alone, about 35,000 people need to be evacuated from 57 coastal villages and moved to 40 relief camps. “The storm will gain in intensity and hit the coast at a speed of 140-150 kmph with wind speeds of up to 165kmph,” India Meteorological Department director general Dr LS Rathore said. Rising waters of the cyclone would inundate low lying areas of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts of Andhra, he added. The gathering storm comes almost exactly one year after Phailin, also a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’, hit the Odisha coast, bringing gales of 200-220kmph that killed nearly 30 people and displaced more than 400,000. “We are expecting Hudhud’s intensity to decrease 12 hours after hitting the coast,” Rathore said, forecasting rain in parts of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. (JSP), all run by Indian metal billionaires, risk losing coal permits for projects worth a combined $7.1 billion if the nation’s top court accepts a government proposal to annul licenses for mines that haven’t started production. Hindalco-Essar’s Mahan coal mine in the central state of Madhya Pradesh and Jindal Steel’s Utkal B1 mine in the eastern state of Odisha would number among the 172 permits that Rohtagi said should be cancelled, at a Supreme Court hearing on Sept. 1. The court last week ruled illegal all 218 allocations since 1993 for so-called captive coal mines, which companies use for their own projects. Cancellations would raise costs for the projects, forcing them to run on more expensive coal bought at auctions or shipped from overseas. “We invested in the Angul project based on promise it will be given a coal block,” said K. Rajagopal, group chief ...
Muktagiri Jain Temple, Muktagiri, Madhya Pradesh. (Like Page) (Subscribe Channel) (Join Group) -: Temple Info :- "The origin of Muktagiri as a centre of pilgrimage goes back to a memorable occurrence in which the leading part is played by a saintly monk. This is something characteristic of many places featured in this book and confirms the traditional conviction held by Jainas that their saints of old lived up to the code of conduct laid down by Mahavira. Being pioneers in the true meaning of the word, they were the ones who showed their followers, by their mode of living and their way of preaching, not only the revealed path to final salvation but also, and quite literally the ways to places of serene beauty which encompass within a limited space the requisites necessary to become fountain-heads of an ever-living faith. Muktagiri is such a fountain-head. For the length of every rainy season, the vertically rising rock-formation, overgrown and with an ancient cave-temple in its eastern base, takes on the ...

Sri Narendra Modi in his ambitious 17-point agenda envisages among other things, coastal expressways, labour reforms and health knowledge institutes. With this, the Prime Minister is planning to put India in driver’s seat, by reviving the growth which was halted during the UPA Government’s decade-long tenure. Key features of Prime Minister’s people-oriented agenda: 1. Focus on the up-gradation of road and rail network in a way such that anyone can reach his or her destination anywhere in the country within 24-hours. For this, Modi has emphasised on building coastal expressways on the east and west coasts of the country, by connecting them through latitude expressways – to be called Akshansh Marg Expressways at 13 degrees, 15 degrees and 17 degrees. 2. Another vital point is to build a Kanha-Krishna corridor, beginning from Madhya Pradesh till Andhra Pradesh which will combine a series of highways and rail networks, and oil and gas pipelines. 3. The vision focusses on building Metro Rail and BRT sy ...

New Delhi: Bihar is the best performing state in terms of gross state domestic product (GSDP) and per capita income growth, the Economic Survey for 2013-14 has said. Presenting the Survey in parliament, finance minister Arun Jaitley said a few states, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Kerala, have also performed well above the all India average. The survey shows some interesting results of inter-state comparisons of socio-economic development of select states based on available indicators and furnish some clear policy pointers. While some states have done well in terms of growth indicators, they are poor performers in terms of other human development. "Human development dimensions needs to be taken into account in formulating and implementing social sector programmes and arriving at criteria for development of funds to states," suggested the survey. According to the survey, Maharastra and Haryana are at the top in terms of the absolute values of GSDP and per capita income. The survey also said that Ke ...

Iftar: Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with people gathering to break their fast together. Iftar is taken right after Maghrib time, which is around sunset. Traditionally but not mandatory, three dates are eaten to break the fast in emulation of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, who broke his fast in this manner. Many Muslims believe that feeding someone iftar as a form of charity is very rewarding and that such was practised by the Prophet Muhammad. AH Qasmi provides this information for breaking the fast to say this prayer at the time of Iftar:[citation needed] “ O Allah! it is for thee that I observe fast and it is with Thine blessing that I break it. ” according to the Majlis publication of South Africa:[1] “ Allahuma inni laka sumtu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu - "O Allah! for thy sake I have fasted and now I break the fast with the food that comes from thee." ” Around the world Afghanistan In Afghanistan, Iftar usually includes the traditional ...

Budget 2014-2015 part - 1 Speech of ArunJaitley Minister of Finance July 10, 2014 Madam Speaker, I rise to present the Budget for the year 2014-15. I. STATE OF THE ECONOMY 2. The people of India have decisively voted for a change. The verdict represents the exasperation of the people with the status-quo. India unhesitatingly desires to grow. Those living below the poverty line are anxious to free themselves from the curse of poverty. Those who have got an opportunity to emerge from the difficult challenges have become aspirational. They now want to be a part of the neo middle class. Their next generation has the hunger to use the opportunity that society provides for them. Slow decision making has resulted in a loss of opportunity. Two years of sub five per cent growth in the Indian economy has resulted in a challenging situation. We look forward to lower levels of inflation as compared to the days of double digit rates of food inflation in the last two years. The country is in no mood to suffer unemp ...

"the passion of rocks " khajuraho ,madhya pradesh The Khajuraho temples contain sexual or erotic art outside the temple or near the deities. Some of the temples that have two layers of walls have small erotic carvings on the outside of the inner wall. It has been suggested that these suggest tantric sexual practices. Some 10% of the carvings contain sexual themes and those reportedly do not depict deities but rather sexual activities between people. The rest depict the everyday life. For example, those depictions show women putting on makeup, musicians, potters, farmers, and other folk. The mundane scenes are all at some distance from the temple deities. A common misconception is that, since the old structures with carvings in Khajuraho are temples, the carvings depict sex between deities. posted by : nupur agarwal

Giving a twist to the tiger poaching tale, the Biruhali sub-registrar told the court on Saturday that he did not verify any valid documents before issuing birth certificates to two tiger poachers, Mamru and Chika, who are currently lodged in Nagpur Central Jail. Mamru and Chika claimed to be juvenile and had filed an application through counsel PS Sontakke under Section 7A of the Juvenile Justice Acton on April 23. The accused said they were 18-years-old when the offence was allegedly committed by them somewhere in May 2013. Both had submitted a birth certificate issued by sub-registrar of Biruhali near Katni, Madhya Pradesh. Interestingly, the date of application and issue for both certificates is the same. After the issue came up before judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) DS Parwani, the forest department through its special counsel Kartik Shukul challenged the legitimacy of the certificates. The court had issued show cause to the Biruhali sub-registrar and asked him to depose. The matter came up for ...

E_ media in India is highly politicized. This fact became apparent after the Radia tapes controversy came into the media limelight in November 2010. Nira Radia, a political and business lobbyist, was found to be part of a wide nexus among politicians, businessmen and journalists through which news was manipulated. Names of senior and celebrated journalists Barkha Dutt, Prabhu Chawla and Vir Sanghvi did crop up in this controversy but with media ethics of maintaining high journalistic standards lying in shreds, all of them continue to hold high positions even as the public trust in a partisan media erodes fast.It is evident that the business of news has completely taken over the social service part of news. Paid news is not a secluded event that happens now and then, but rather it has become the norm. When political news is just paid advertising, it is no different in business, bollywood and sports news as well. As it is most news channels, newspapers, media houses and publishing houses are owned or contro ...

Rajnath Singh rejects mercy plea of Nithari killer Surender Koli. The Home Ministry on Wednesday rejected mercy petition of Nithari killer Surender Koli along with 4 other death row convicts. Koli, convicted of rape and murder of several children in Noida's Nithari area in 2005, was awarded death penalty along with his employer Moninder Singh Pandher by the Ghaziabad court on February 13, 2009. The Allahabad High Court later in 2009 had confirmed death sentence to Koli but acquitted Pandher of the charges. Koli then in 2011 moved a mercy plea before the President of India. There was the only one adult victim in the string of serial murders at businessman Pandher's resident in Nithari, whereas, young girls constituted the majority of victims. While 16 cases were filed against him, he has been awarded death sentence in four cases so far and others are still under trial. Out of the five whose mercy petitions were rejected by the government, Mukherjee's office had returned the files of Seema and Renukabai and ...

June29, 2014: Cobbling Together Good Governance It was easier said than done, Mr Modi! The ruling classes do not change overnight. Nor their grip of the power apparatuses looses so quickly! By now you must have discovered that some remnants of the former regime, still clinging to power centres like leeches, are not going to be just wished off. Second, the Congress had the dynasty. You too have controllers based in Nagpur. They have their agenda, and it is already becoming crystal clear that your and their agendas don’t quite gel together, certainly not to sustainable extent. Sooner than later you would be presented with a fait accompli like you were in 2002! Third, your party and its henchmen are just as corrupt and inept as were the Congressmen, and other ruling party walas. They are unlikely to change their spurs! Fourth, scams are surfacing from Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh . These scamsters are no pushovers. In fact, some of them are top RSS big guns! You just can’t brush them off! Fifth, more than ...

Mani-Talk: 'No English. No Hindi. How?' A good Article by Mani Shankar. It looks like these politicians come to senses only while they are not in power. The title is the immortal response of K Kamraj, President of the Indian National Congress in January 1966, when his colleagues begged him to succeed Lal Bahadur Shastri as Prime Minister of India after Shastri died suddenly in Tashkent. It comes to mind now when, in conformity with its hidden, ulterior, Sangh-driven agenda, the Modi government has floated a feeler designed eventually to abolish English and establish Hindi as the sole official language of the Indian government: "No English. Only Hindi. Now"! For the moment, the howl from Tamil Nadu has stalled the effort, but Moditva still has 4 years and eleven months to run. Without the utmost vigilance, we may be left with J&K in the North seceding over the deletion of Article 370 and Tamil Nadu in the far south doing the same over the imposition of Hindi. Nothing less than the continued unity and integ ...

MAJOR 9 ISSUES: I don’t think, one Narendra Modi( honorable primeminister) alone, or one KCR ( honorable chief minister) alone,or one NAIDU( honorable chief minister) alone or any other CM alone can ‘change’ the country.every individual would be a part of ‘change’. You are one who make people in rural india to aware about ‘’9 major issues’’. Change should come from ‘bottom line’ not from ‘top line’.firstly every rural population must aware of this 9 issues. whether they implementing or not that is different issue. In most of the village couples observed that low level of literacy/low socio-economic status (SES). low SES have been shown to be major risk factors for Indian economy like 1)population 2)shelter 3)food supplye 4)energy 5)environmental health 6)natural resources 7)economy 8)communication 9)transportation.these all interconnected with each other. Lack of awareness and means to access information regarding 9 issues amongst rural population in India. This leads to low stand ...
You like the candidate you press the button in front of the party’s symbol to vote on electronic voting machines. Now if you do not like the entire list of candidates you have an option of NOTA or ‘None of the Above’. Voters have all rights to press this option if they wish to reject all the political parties contesting the elections. So instead of sitting at home just go and show your wish.Earlier the citizens of India were not provided with the option NOTA but in 2009 the Election Commission stated its desire to the Supreme Court to add NOTA at the ballet. Government opposed NOTA as this was one of the ways to dilute the number of votes. On the contrary the Supreme Court of India ordered to add the option on 27 September 2013 with a belief that it will definitely increase the number of voters. The orders were passed by a bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam.
