Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Beyonce Knowles, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, & Usher all had to work hard to succeed and dedicate time.
Listening to my old school playlist on pandora: Charlie Wilson, zapp, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, and Whitney Houston have hit the right spot for me!
Well we're a little in shock here - and unfortunately its not an April Fools joke - there are now confirmed reports online that the LEGENDARY Frankie Knuckles has passed away aged just 59. From his early beginnings in New York Frankie moved to Chicago where he made a reputation for his style of music at the Warehouse club - the club that would give the genre of music we love so much its name. Frankie would give us pure wonderments of music such as "The Whistle Song" and the seminal "Your Love" as well as remixing heavyweights such as Diana Ross, Chaka Kahn, Luther Vandross, Candi Staton, Whitney Houston and being the only person - in our opinion - who was able to successfully and majestically rework the music of Michael Jackson for the dancefloor. We last saw Frankie in Dublin's Spirit nightclub (now Academy) circa 2005 and it was truly an honour to finally shake his hand. Without Frankie the Dance world in general would sound very different today. Sleep well Frankie - we ♥ you --
Even though my specialty is Latin music, I couldn't resist posting this Musical Gem, featuring 4 of my favorite all time singers; Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Dionne Warwick & Stevie Wonder in the Classic "That's What Friends Are For," for all my Latinoconnect friends! Whitney Houston. Michael Jackson. Luther Vandross. Bishop Paul Morton. Gerald Levert. RIP we miss you, music misses you
The world is still in shock from the untimely passing of the beautiful and iconic Whitney Houston. In honor of the legendary life of one of the greatest performers in history, here are a few facts that you may or may not know. 1. Whitney Houston, born on August 9, 1963, came from music business royalty. Her mother, Cissy Houston, was a backup singer for the likes of Elvis Presley, Mahalia Jackson, Luther Vandross and Aretha Franklin. Whitney’s cousin, Dionne Warwick, is an internationally recognized singing star. Whitney’s Godmother is Aretha Franklin. 2. Houston is the most awarded female recording artist of all time, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Houston’s awards include: 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards. 3. Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive Billboard Hot 100 hits (“Saving All My Love for You”, “How Will I Know”, “Greatest Love of All”, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, “Didn’t We Almost Have ...
From the Jesse Jaymes vault of some of life's little snickers. Every generation thinks they've reinvented music. Not really. "I've been everywhere".most know it as a Johnny Cash song. Done 15 years before Cash recorded it, by Hank Snow. "Me and Bobby McGee".Janis Joplin classic right? Written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson before Janis was famous. " You keep me Hanging on"...Credited to Vanilla Fudge as a forerunner to metal music. But it was a pop hit first by the Supremes. "Knockin' on Heaven's door"...and what band hasn't done this song? Bob Dylan was first. 'Turn the page" turns on Metallica fans but it turned on Bob Seger fans a lot earlier. "Buy me a Rose".while Luther Vandross fans swooned, country fans thought Kenny Rogers might have been the first. "I'm going down".launched the career of Mary J Blige.but it didn't do that bad as a hit for Rose Royce more than a decade earlier. "I will always love you".Signature song for Whitney Houston...of course Dolly Parton wrote it and recorded it on t .. ...
I love you Ella. God loved you and wanted you home to sing to add your voice ti HIS heavenly choir. Whitney Houston, Micheal Jackson, Issacc Hayes, Mahaliela Jackson, Rev. Theres a Holy Ghost party going on up in glory.
If Beyonce is holding it down for Diana Ross and Tina Turner , Fantasia holds it down for Patti and Jennifer Hudson for Aretha Franklin. Who is gonna hold it in memory of Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston ... Where are the "Sangers" ol skool gentlemen with suits and ladies in gowns that stood in one spot and blew y'all down?
In Now Serving Episode 12 (“Holiday Xtravaganza?”) the boys take a dial-in call from Seattle DJ Rob Winter, discuss Beyonce’s new release and third degree wig snatching of the entertainment world, call out the use of racism and homophobia to market bogus celebrities, reflect on things to leave behind in 2013, and scream hallelujah to Whitney’s gospel Christmas tune. Music by Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Mike Dixon, and Donny Hathaway.
I remember when Lebo Mathosa did a Brenda Fassie tribute (Too Late For Mama) She killed it so badly that when Brenda joined her on stage she sang alto, humbled. I'll tell my kids, we had Brenda, we had Lebo, we had Luther Vandross, we had Whitney Houston, we had Michael Jackson, we had Luciano Pavarotti, we had Bob Marley.
Will be pulling out my Christmas movies this weekend. This Christmas (Regina King & Laz Alonso)...The Preacher's Wife (Whitney Houston & Denzel Washington) & whatever else I have.Madea's Christmas Play. So I think the 80's and the 90's were the greatest two decades for the R&B/Soul Music. My top 10 Favorite Artists are: Anything by Luther Vandross...Anita Baker...Michele'le.. Mary J. Blige.Silk...Taylor Dane...Lisa Stansfield. Whitney Houston. Aerosmith ( I know right )...Regina Belle and En Vogue... What are yours??
Patti Labelle, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Peabo Bryson and Luther Vandross will have you feeling some type of way when you're in your chest.
Love battle of the old school on 92.3...Whitney Houston vs Luther Vandross! Who do u think would win???
Luther vandross against Whitney Houston on 92.3 right now. whos your pick
I was just scrolling through the music channels on our cable system. Geeze, it was depressing. Amy Winehouse, dead. Whitney Houston, dead. Luther Vandross, dead. Jerry Garcia, dead. Then I got to Vivlaldi - I don't feel that depressed that he is dead since it happened 250 years ago.
It used to be back in the day when you listened to music on the radio you heard the dj mentioned the name of song and the artist who recorded the song.Nowadays these radio stations hardly ever do that if at all and what makes it worse is that you cant tell these modern so called artists apart.Theyre like cookie cutters of one another sounding all the time. when artists like James Brown,Micheal Jackson,Whitney Houston,Chaka Kahn,Aretha Franklin,Luther Vandross,Stevie Wonder,Toni Braxton,Stephanie Mills,Earth Wind and Fire,Janet Jackson or Mariah Carey were played on the radio you could tell them apart. In 2013,thats not the case anymore and all the music companies seem to want to make a fast buck at the expense of the musical quality. My theory is that there was a time when the quality and the money making potential mattered and now its just money and greed.
Luther Vandross, Frankie Beverly, Whitney Houston, Salt n Pepa, En Vogue, Chaka Khan and the list goes on and on
thats what friends are for (Live Version)- Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross & Dionne Warwick✌
It still hurts to listen to some Whitney Houston songs...
I was thinking the other day that all the amazing artist that I would have loved to musically collaborate with are gone.Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston...Today if I ever had the opportunity to sing a duet with anyone I would have to say KEM. If you had a chance to musically collaborate with an artist today, whether instrumental or vocally, who would it be?
When I'm sad, I love listening to sad songs lol idek why, but they always make me feel better. When FirstLove left, "Gone" by NSync, "Breakup Song" by Wale, "This House Is Not A Home," by Luther Vandross, and "HeartBreak Hotel" by Whitney Houston always made me smile(: lol
Sitting here watching the "Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Celebration All Star Tribute" on TVONE. I've seen it too many times to count over the years. I remember the 1st time I saw it in 2001. I had co-workers that attended the concert and their flight was delayed in New York because of the events that transpired on 9/11/01. Fortunately they made it home safe & sound. Just watching this AMAZING concert I see all the greats that have passed since. R.I.P. Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Elizabeth Taylor, & the Victims of 9/11/01.
I'm sitting here watching the Michael Jackson 30 year celebration. Say what you want, to me this man had talent. If there was no Michael Jackson, there wouldn't be no Chris Brown, Trey Songz, R-Kelly, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Miquel, Tank, Joe and many others you see today. Now it has been said that Chris Brown is the closet thing to Michael of today. Hmmm Not sure about that. Now another talented person was Prince. I would have love it if Prince and MJ did a song together. It would've been weird but most likely a hit. Also if there was no Prince there wouldn't been no Roots, which has become one of the badest bands of our time and is still going. For those that are parents and grew up in the area where music was music. There was no samples, no loops. Musicians played their parts. I hope that you let your kids listen to a lot of the old hits. Like Jackson 5, The Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, Steve Wonder, The Temptations and a lot of others. Don't for the ladies. Patti Label, Whitney Houston, ...

i know some people will get this and some wont but if you love music as much as i do you might just follow my train of thought ... so im sitting here listening to some House Bootleg of Sade and im thinking to myself this woman has an extrodinary voice ... only a few artists have such a level of ... i mean some vocalists are just mediocre such as Case, Jaheim, Musiq Soulchild and the like ... their songs are well written and composed but their voices dont really stand out as much for me ... I mean look at Whitney Houston, Sade, Luther Vandross, Raphael Saadiq ... for me those are just some of the voices that are on a 5/5 rating in my books

With R. Kelly coming to town, I will say this now: There is no artist in South Africa worthy of doing the opening for this man. None. They will be called out, but they must just know, they are not worthy of it... we just have no choice. We could get a DJ to pump songs from way back when he was with Public Announcement or songs he's produced for other well known artists like the Winans, Isley Brothers, Charlie Wilson, Quincy Jones, K-Ci & JoJo, Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, Yolanda Adams, Hi-Five, Nivea, Ciara, Mary J. Blige, Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert, Raheem DeVaughn, Ruben Studdard, Jaheim, Kelly Price, Tamia, Maxwell, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Usher, B2K, Twista, Tyrese, Jennifer Lopez, Trey Songz... Then he comes in... But there is no artist worthy of opening for him in S.A! Done.
After watching the NAACP Awards, especially the "in memory of" portion, it really made sad to think of all the great talents and gifts gone much too soon over the 10-20 years. I pray their souls are resting in peace and that they knew the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. - Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Gerald Levert, Dean Levert, Rick James, Teena Marie, Donna Summer, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Vesta Williams, Barry White, Isaac Hayes, Sugarfoot, Nick Ashford, Isley Brothers member, Etta James, James Brown, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Flo Jo, Curtis Mayfield, Walter Payton, Michael Clarke Duncan and so many others... Please feel free to add to the list.

Something someone sent me that wanted to share: In church I heard a lady on the pew next to me saying a prayer. It was so sweet and sincere that I just had to share with you. Dear Lord, The past few years have been tough. Today's (9/30) Birthdays in Music: 1933, Cissy Houston, member of Sweet Inspirations and, along with Dionne Warwick, The Drinkard Singers. Houston was also a back-up singer with Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross and a few others, and mother of Whitney Houston. 1935, Johnny Mathis, who not only had 71 of his singles chart around the world, he invented the "Greatest Hits"-type of album. "Johnny’s Greatest Hits" was released in 1958 and was the first ever Greatest Hits album in the music industry. It began the Greatest Hits tradition copied by every record company. "Johnny's Greatest Hits" spent an unprecedented 491 consecutive weeks (1958 until 1967, nine and a half years) on the Billboard top 100 album charts, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. He has had five of his albums on the Billboard charts simultaneously, an achievement equaled by only two other singers, Frank Sinatra and Barry Manilow. Recordings Historian Paul Gambaccini confirms Mathis recordin ...

11 years ago, I was on a cloud sept 10, I had just seen Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Gladys Knight, Liza Minelli,Elizabeth Taylor, Destiny Child, Michael Jackson and the Jacksons. While you wont see me waiving no flags, it was self evident that the attack on the World Trade Center was no accident. I grieve for those innocent folk who lost their lives, I remember a brother smiling saying just like Malcolm said " chickens coming home to roost" and he we went to point out the truths that many people, have been lulled to sleep, particularly black folk. He spoke about the Arrogance of United States and Lies of America not having any Political Prisoners and the oppression of others around the world and the fact that those folks who were cheering this action did so not because of their hatred of America, but once again the arrogance of the American People believing that no one, not the Russians or the Chinese would ever have the guts to attack America on their own soil. He also said trust and believe the U ...
My whole Image is all genuine and folks don't take it serious . Most folks want the credit for all that someone else hard worked all there life to do, sparkle was the name I was call growing up and I've changed it , I've have never left the business I've was working all along, I don't think folks know me like they think they do , they all caught up in my name (Sparkle) a name in which my own Hollywood family calls me it wasn't for every person to call me that, Folks tried to use my name like to make themselves the next Jennifer Hudson , In Dream Girls ,they were in it for all the wrong reasons, I created so many Genres of styles of music that others was trying to get in on,Curtis Mayfield ,Lionel Richie, Marvin, Barry White and Prince ,Roger, Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder, Jefferry Osborne ,Philip Bailey and Maurice rice and others that was more concern about change and style of songs changing into Pop Electro can adapt to music and get an positive message at the same time. In which I've created ...

Love on Top” is a song by American recording artist Beyoncé Knowles from her fourth studio album 4 (2011). It was written by Knowles, Terius Nash and Shea Taylor; and production was handled by Knowles and Taylor. Knowles took inspiration from her state of mind while playing Etta James. A throw-back to the 1980s music, the up-tempo R&B song exhibits similar styles of Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and The Jackson 5. While incorporating six key changes, Knowles also adopts her high range when repeating the song’s chorus towards the end of the song. She sings about a man who she can always call, even after facing grief and hard work, finally earning his love and respect. “Love on Top”’s musical composition, as well as Knowles' vocals and versatility, surprised critics. In July 2011, the song charted at number three for three consecutive weeks in South Korea. Knowles also sang “Love on Top” at 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, announcing her pregnancy at the ...
What do Whitney Houston, Goldfrapp, Toni Braxton, Justin Timberlake, Luther Vandross, Lawrence Welk, Nina Simone, Carpenters, Marilyn Monroe and Britney Spears have in common? They all have Remix CDS available at P Town SPIN CD and Vinyl Shop in Provincetown.
How about this: Let's list some of the best vocal duets of the last few decades. I'll start with a few favorites off the top of my head: Rachelle Ferrell and Will Downing doing "Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This"; Whitney Houston and Cece Winans doing "Count On Me"; Cheryl Lynn and Luther Vandross doing "If This World Were Mine"; while I'm at it, Luther and Beyonce doing "The Closer I Get to You" and Luther and Gregory Hines doing "There's Nothing Better Than Love". What would you add?
over here listening to Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston talking about "I'm feeling it !"
Who will be the successors? The royalty of Soul Music is dying out ,Michael Jackson (the King of Pop) Whitney Houston (Queen of pop) Donna Summer(Queen of Disco)Luther Vandross ( King of Soul Ballads)Lavert (the Prince of ballads)Teena Maria (Lady T)and yes she falls into the soul category. What is so troubling about this is that these were the middle royalty who succeeded Aretha ,Gladys and the PIPs ,Temptations,,Dells and so on. These people were in their 40's and 50's .So who will be their successors . these were singers with unusual voices (greatly immatated but never Duplicated ).yes i have seen the little girl or was it a boy who sound like Whitney ,but sounding and being are different. They want have that Whitney smile ,grace ,laughter, they are just immatators. Not taking anything from rappers (They talk a good game ) but these were singers with Talent that was a gift from God and you could tell. People made love and had babies listening to Luther , we danced to MJ from the time he was 5 ,I dont k ...
I miss Michael Jackson, I miss Whitney Houston, Barry White, Issac Hayes, James Brown, Luther Vandross just people who put out consistent quality music. It was about the music and not the money, tours, fame and groupies.

Wow..was just thinking about all the great R&B singers we lost over the last ten years or so. Aaliyah, Barry White, Ray Charles, Rick James, James Brown, Gerald Levert, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, Teddy Pendergrass, Etta James, Teena Marie..I know I'm missing a lot..but it's amazing how many truly great talents are gone!
Sooo talm bout she still grieving over Whitney Houston and Luther vandross death 😳
We've lost so many wonderful superstars in the R&B community these last few years: Barry White, Luther Vandross, James Brown, Rick James, Gerald Levert, Teena Marie, Vesta Williams, Whitney Houston, and now Donna Summer. It's crazy how all of the great singers are passing away.
In the last few years, we’ve lost a few of the BEST male artists in Barry White, Luther Vandross and Michael Jackson…and now this year Whitney Houston and Donna Summer….arguably some of the BEST male and female singers on the planet. As a professional DJ, you can believe that I will continue to keep their music alive!
Another angel gone to heaven, Donna Summers. May she sit by Gods Feet On His Throne. I can imagine Tupac doing a duet with Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston doing duet with Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday doing duet with Donna Summers. And Luther Vandross doing a duet with Louis Astrong and Ray Charles.Save the best for last, I know Rick James is trippin with Elvis Presley. Be Bless EveryBody!!! Quantte Hightower.
RIP Donna Summer & Chuck Brown. Chuck Brown is "Bustin Loose" in Heaven. ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!! If you are doing something for the talent portion of the night here is the theme: "DEAD CELEBRITIES" . For example, Micheal Jackson, Whitney Houston, Biggy, The Temptations, Luther Vandross, Teena Marie, Bob Marley, Elvis, Ray Charles, Selena, Teddy Pendergrass, Edda James, Aliyah etc. Judging will be based on originality, creativity, talent, and you must be able to entertain the crowd, (props are encouraged). We are doing it bigger and better this year so come with your A-game.

I just now found out that this concert at ACE is a Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, and Whitney Houston concert Oooopps!!!
I was watching American Idol last night (I hate the title of the show by the way) don't believe in idols. Well anyway, after one the performances of the singer Joshua Ledet, Jennifer Lopez said that was the best performance of any singer she had heard in 50 years. Although I do think that he gave a very emotional and great performance for a 19-year-old singer, come on Jennifer, the best performance of any singer in 50 years. I know that the judges real job is to hype up the show to get ratings, but that's really being extreme to say the least. I can name a hundred singers over the past 50 years that have given great.performance. Singers who have set trends and their vocal style have influenced singer like young Joshua. Here’s just a little list of great singers just in case Jennifer need to be reminded of the many great singers over let's say, just the past 40 years. Donny Hathaway, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Kim Burrell Peabo Bryson, Glenn Jones, James Ingram, Teddy Pendergrass, Fred ...
Micheal Jackson, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston.Real people, real problems, hope they had Jesus.
Whenever I hear the word "Legend" ; I think of Luther Vandross, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston.
Who do you miss more? Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross
Heaven is VIBIN right now..Luther Vandross, Bob Marley, Ray Charles, Teddy Pendergrass, Michael Jackson, and now Whitney Houston. RIP.
