Lucio Fulci

Lucio Fulci (17 June 1927 – 13 March 1996) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is perhaps best known for his directorial work on gore films, including Zombie (1979) and The Beyond (1981), although he made films in genres as diverse as giallo, western, and comedy.

Well said (a comment on the Guardian blog): "I have to admit this was the point where I finally "got" the Game of Thrones message - the Red Wedding had enough clues in it, but here they really rammed the message home. A horrendously bleak and grotesque view of humanity and an obsession with everything gruesome and ugly. The level of gore and constant brutal deaths for every sympathetic character carries GoT over into the realm of the 'Saw' films. After coming close at the end of the last season, I think this was enough for me, I'm finally off the ride. I don't want to spend any more time in this joyless and cruel world." I'm sure there is a Masters' thesis in how GoT's mean-spirited misanthropy (which is far too prevalent in TV these days: what was the last big TV show where the creators actually seemed to care about their characters?) reflects the increasingly callous, mean-spirited neoliberal ideology that seems to be driving our world these days, but I can't be bothered with it any more: it's far too tr ...

Just realized something while talking with my friend Molly Lowe... Yesterday's news of Dave Brockie's (Oderus Urungus) death not only hits me hard because I found the man as a genius and he was a hero to me... but also because without Gwar there is so much about me today... that wouldn't be. Not only was GWAR the band that got me further into Metal, and more "extreme" rock... but they were also the band that made me fall in love with Punk and Hardcore too! And deepen my love of all things Horror, Controversial, and Shocking!! In many ways, if you took GWAR out of my life back then early on, I'd not be half the person I am today. For GWAR led me to Punk rock that led me to meeting people that introduced me to my love of Troma; Troma led me to my love of Gore films and finding people like Lucio Fulci and Dario Argento which led me to find more films like that; all of that got me more into GOOD Horror and more... And just... my god! *** come to think of it it's thanks to that love of Horror, Troma ...

The Sentinel isn't quite a horror classic, but it's certainly an underrated and overlooked horror movie that I think gets passed over because so many other great horror movies were released in the 1970s that they kind of steal this movie's thunder. The Sentinel was also the latest in a long line of demonic movies following Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, and The Omen, but unfortunately came out in 1977, when the demonic horror movie was starting to run out of steam. It's a real shame, however, because I think this movie has some interesting ideas and while I'm almost certain this movie got made due to the success of other '70s demon movies, it carves out it's own little niche separate from those, even it's closest predecessor, Rosemary's Baby. It's a bit of a spoiler, but the movies I found this to bear closest resemblance to were Lucio Fulci's 1981 zombie films The Beyond and City of the Living Dead - in fact, both of those movies could take place in the world of The Sentinel, which makes all three mov ...
Six Reason To Follow The Walking Dead 1.) THE DRAMA Since George Romero, everyone and their mama thought they could make a zombie movie with depth. Sure, there are also those films out to deliver a gut-churning, visceral thrill - and I'm a fan of nipple-biting, shark-fighting, scalp-biting, punk rock and oatmeal-faced zombies as much as the next dude sporting a Lucio Fulci's Zombie t-shirt. But if you want something more to chew on, you didn't have to look that much further than Romero's original trilogy. That is, until Kirkman came along to expand on Romero's themes of survival, love, loss, betrayal and starting over. The Walking Dead covers it all. It's fearless and direct, revealing the horrors of not just a world overrun by zombies, but humanity under duress. 2.) FRANK DARABONT Spinning off that statement, who better to handle "humanity under duress" than the man who brought us the similarly-themed The Mist? Like The Walking Dead, the creatures of that Stephen King adaptation took the back seat to the ...
“Lucio Fulci's Zombie Flesh Eaters - this August on the Horror Channel” - the boat can leave now. Tell the crew...
Gore merchant Lucio Fulci's "Zombie Flesh-Eaters" is the subject of a new lawsuit. My story: via
Zombi 2   Worst Title in a Horror Flick goes to Zombi 2! Now, now hear me out. They are missing an e at the end of zombie! What a huge spelling error!  Zombi 2 is one heck of a film! The film is one of the many b*s*a*d child of George A. Romero's excellent Dawn of the Dead. I do not know if the film was huge in Europe, but I am sure Dawn of the Dead impacted Europe because not too long afterwards, children began popping up everywhere. Zombi 2 is an excellent example of that. The film was made by an Italian company with director Lucio Fulci taking the film on.    We begin the film in the New Yorkharbor where a boat ominously enters. Law enforcement is contacted to deal with the situation. While boarding it, one of them has his neck bitten out by a zombie. The zombie is shot and falls into the water.  The boat belongs to Anne Bowles’ (Tisa Farrow) father. Reporter Peter West (Ian McCulloh) is assigned to the incident. The two meet on the boat and become a team after an almost close call. ...
Just been to see WORLD WAR Z. I’m a huge zombie movie fan - George A Romero is king. Lucio Fulci, Sam Rami, Michael Soavi, Danny Boyle even Edgar Wright got it right with Shaun of the Dead. But when they made WORLD WAR Z someone forgot to flick the ‘scary switch’ to ON!

What do Lucio Fulci, Barry Manilow, George Clinton, Paul Young, Joe Piscopo, Jello Biafra, Mike Milbury, Thomas Haden Church, Bobby Farrelly, Greg Kinnear, Will Forte, Paulina Rubio, and Venus Williams all have in common? None of them are the most important people born on this day. That honor goes to yours truly, of course. Happy birthday to all of them, and happy birthday to me!

Hardly anything in the world gives me as much pleasure as Italian horror movies. They just make me really happy. Ok I fancied keeping in the horror vein so hit the collections section on lovefilm and selected horror. yes I thought time for a gore feast. Only to find bloody twilight top of the list. Now people they got half of the name right for that movie it should be horror-lite as in lack of any whatsoever. For demons sake people keep this slush in the teeny romance section and leave my horror section for people like cronenberg, Clive barker, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, dan o bannon and Stephen King. People who know how to write and direct what is and always has been horror
Looking to expand my movie collection. Anyone got any movie suggestions?
Someone wake me up when Staind, 3 Doors Down, and Seether are no longer recording the same songs over and over again.

RIP - Actor Jon Finch Dead at 70 – Starred in Hitchcock’s FRENZY His two most famous film roles were as the man wrongly accused of being the ‘necktie strangler’ in Alfred Hitchcock’s FRENZY (1972), the director’s last great film, and the title role in Roman Polanski’s MACBETH in 1971. He may be best known for the role he turned down: that of James Bond when Cubby Broccoli was looking for a handsome British actor to replace Sean Connery for 1973′s LIVE AND LET DIE. Earlier in his career, actor Jon Finch had appeared in the Hammer horror films THE VAMPIRE LOVERS and THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN. He also starred in the end-of-the-world sci-fi saga THE LAST DAYS OF MAN ON EARTH (1973) from cult director Robert Fuest (THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES). He was married for several years to Catrinoa MacColl, who worked regularly with director Lucio Fulci in films including THE BEYOND and HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY. Finch’s final role was a small one in Ridley Scott’s KINGDOM OF HEAVEN in 2005. The cause of ...
Its time to break out those Lucio Fulci movies and start taking notes for survival. What are you lot waiting for? Pat Boone?!
Weird meandering here, sorry, but I need to ramble. No rant, just stream of consciousness. At the moment spending some insomnia examining my bizarre dual nature, and realized that my choosing diametrically opposed things even extends to my favorite flowers. As with everything about me, I do not have just one favorite anything. Ever. You know all those polls and questionnaires that ask what your favorite color, movie or song is? I have never once had just one answer and my choices are always completely different from each other. For example, favorite films include Lucio Fulci's The Beyond, and The Princess Bride, favorite bands range from the Beatles to Mayhem (Only whilst Dead was the vocalist, of course.), and favorite books feature everything from Superfudge to Kafka's In Der Strafkolonie (In the Penal Colony). Great Old Ones, What is WRONG with me? LoL Honestly though, I'm fairly content with my oddness...

well I finished my Stephen King movie marathon I can't believe I had 17 of his films And now I'm in the mood for some over the top blood and gore I'm thinking it's Lucio Fulci time and the 3 movies I got by him. Note to self better not eat to much before I watch "The City of the Living Dead" that reminds me I think I did puke the first time watching it, maybe not but it sure got under my skin.
In honor of Halloween, the month we love to talk about horror movies, here is my list of horror films you should see if you have not. Most are not mainstream, but can be found either on Netflix or bought online. 1) Nosferatu - I am specifically talking about the 1979 film directed by Werner Herzog and staring Klaus Kinski. For mood and atmosphere, it is one of the all-time greatest films. 2) Let the Right One In - The origina Swedish version please, not the American remake. 3) Audition - Dare you to sit through the final 15 minutes without walking out or at least closing your eyes. 4) Martyrs - One of the most brutal films you'll ever watch, and a weird, weird ending. 5) Haute Tension - Completely falls apart with an implausible "twist" ending, but for the first 3/4s of the way about as terrifying as a horror move can get. 6) Susperia - If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself. Dario Argento's "masterpiece" of horror. 7) The Beyond - Lucio Fulci's horror classic. 8) The Sentinel - Littl ...

Watching Lucio Fulci's "Zombie" for the first time. The first act is ENGROSSING. Great music too.

October movie of the day. Lucio Fulci's Zombie. Classic Zombie flick.
Will watch only 1 more Lucio Fulci film. I've seen 2 now and they are utter crap. Bored senseless after 15 mins both times!
Movie # 10. "House" '86 Overall: D A movie that had potential, and many chances to impress. Unfortunately it fell short every time. It bordered on the line of meta-physical and horror, but did a poor job of accomplishing either (Much like Lucio Fulci's 'Gates of *** trilogy). The mix in of the sentimental 'everything might be ok' moment that every horror movie tends to have, was just horrible. With a made for the movie, 80's theme song about what he just did and how he now feels. And the ending had a couple great attempts to be good, but again the script feel short. The actors were good however, and I wish I could have seen them in more popular, better written movies. I think this movie was campy and boring, and I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. Unless they wanted to learn what not to do in making a movie.
Another shout out from Yellmagazine. They have been great supporters from our first release! check it out here...

Saw one of the best horror films in a while just now. It's called House by the Cemetrary. It's by director Lucio Fulci director of the "unofficial" dawn of the dead sequel Zombi 2. Its a horror movie worth checking out, good plot, amazing gore effects and just an ending that was just awesome! Plus the monster if you wanna call it that is just terrifying as *** For the first time this is a movie that did make me scared, as a good italian 70's horror film should. Check it out for the spirit of Halloween coming up.
