I hope nobody needs emergency services anytime soon.

Dont hate me... Cut n Paste... Well, they better get on the ball because I already have an analytics department up and running. It is a one-man, volunteer, unsolicited department run and manned by Dr. Peter Lawrence Smith who is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for Clincal Sciences at St. Georges University of London. always knew dark chocolate was good for us.. Read this : Dark chocolate has long been praised for its health benefits, but now scientists know exactly how it’s heart-healthy properties are released in the body, Medical News Today reported. Scientists at Louisiana State University studied the effects of dark chocolate on stomach bacteria and found that the stomach’s “good” bacteria was responsible for releasing cocoa’s beneficial compounds into the body. "The good microbes, such as Bifidobacterium and lactic acid bacteria, feast on chocolate," said researcher Maria Moore. "When you eat dark chocolate, they grow and ferment it, producing compounds that are anti-inflammatory." These anti-inflammatory compounds decrease cardiovascular tissue inflammation, which reduces the risk of stroke. Cocoa powder is rich in flavanols— naturally occurring antioxidants— and contain a small amount of dietary fiber. Researchers suggest that combining cocoa products with a diet rich in prebiotics— foods that a ...
Linda l snagged this one, great article and l just love chocolate Hugs x Scientists work out why dark chocolate is good for the heart Kimberly Gillan Thursday, March 20, 2014 For years we've been told to swap milk chocolate for small amounts of its darker cousin to benefit our heart, and now US scientists believe they have discovered how it works in the gut. It turns out that when chocolate is ingested, good bacteria feed on it, which causes fermentation that produces anti-inflammatory compounds. "When these compounds are absorbed by the body, they lessen the inflammation of cardiovascular tissue, reducing the long-term risk of stroke," said study leader Dr John Finley, from Louisiana State University. Cocoa powder contains antioxidant compounds, such as catechin and epicatechin, plus a small amount of fibre. These components are poorly digested and absorbed until they reach the colon when the bacteria kick in. "In our study we found that the fibre is fermented and the large polyphenolic polymers are meta ...

Blues-FM is celebrating the music and the birth of Marcia Ball born March 20, 1949, Orange, Texas raised in Vinton, Louisiana. She was described in USA Today as "a sensation, saucy singer and superb pianist... where Texas stomp-rock and Louisiana blues-swamp meet." The Boston Globe described her music as "an irresistible celebratory blend of rollicking, two-fisted New Orleans piano, Louisiana swamp rock and smoldering Texas blues from a contemporary storyteller." Born into a musical family, Ball learned to play the piano at age 5, and showed an early interest in New Orleans style piano playing, as exemplified by Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, and James Booker. She has named Irma Thomas, the New Orleans vocalist, as her chief vocal inspiration. Ball studied English at Louisiana State University in the 1960s while playing in a band called Gum. In 1970, at age 21, she started a progressive country band called Freda and the Firedogs in Austin, Texas, and began her solo career in 1974. Ball's piano style inc ...
Insects living in wetland grasses along Louisiana's coast oiled in the aftermath of the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon disaster are still dying, the result of exposure to remaining oil in the marsh almost four years later, Louisiana State University entomologist...
"Louisiana State University entomologist Linda Hooper-Bui explains her research that indicates oil from the BP Deepwater Horizon spill is still killing insects that live in coastal marsh grasses. ...In a separate talk, LSU chemical engineering graduate student Paria Avij discussed recent research that indicates a small, but significant, percentage of the BP oil that reached the surface of the Gulf of Mexico were launched into the air as tiny droplets by whitecap waves. The aerosol effect was in part the result of the use of two Corexit dispersant mixtures applied on the Gulf surface and a mile deep to turn the liquid into droplets as the oil was being released from the well, she said. The tiny droplets could be a health hazard for both oil spill response workers who were on ships in the Gulf and for residents onshore, she sad, as they can be carried in the atmosphere by winds for distances of as much as 185 miles."

The Samson Option Some have written about the "Samson Option" as a retaliation strategy. In 2002, the Los Angeles Times published an opinion piece by Louisiana State University professor David Perlmutter which Jewish author Ron Rosenbaum writes "goes so far as to justify" a Samson Option approach:[27] Israel has been building nuclear weapons for 30 years. The Jews understand what passive and powerless acceptance of doom has meant for them in the past, and they have ensured against it. Masada was not an example to follow—it hurt the Romans not a whit, but Samson in Gaza? What would serve the Jew-hating world better in repayment for thousands of years of massacres but a Nuclear Winter. Or invite all those tut-tutting European statesmen and peace activists to join us in the ovens? For the first time in history, a people facing extermination while the world either cackles or looks away—unlike the Armenians, Tibetans, World War II European Jews or Rwandans—have the power to destroy the world. The ultimat ...

Message to Pharmacists: Be a Survivor Survival of the Fittest We’ve all heard the phrase most often used in evolution theory, ‘survival of the fittest’. And indeed it’s most often true that only those who are ‘fit’ are able to survive in this world. Those who are considered strong, powerful, vigorous, forceful, outgoing or even overbearing are usually considered prime examples of any species that are truly able to survive. Examples of survivors in the world of pharmacy might include Walgreens, CVS, Walmart and other familiar big corporate pharmacy names. But are these the characteristics that will be needed to continue to be a pharmacy survivor in the future? Do you and I need to have these characteristics to become pharmacy survivors ourselves? I recently ran across a quote, or more appropriately a misquote, often attributed to Charles Darwin which gave me a different perspective on the idea of survival of the fittest in the world of pharmacy: “It is not the strongest of the species tha ...

Melissa Eaton In 2013 Melissa Eaton picked up her first career Symetra Tour victory in dramatic fashion eagling the 54th hole at the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic. After spending the majority of the off-season in her home country of South Africa, look for Eaton to come out swinging in 2014. A former Louisiana State University (LSU) Tiger, Eaton’s statistics at the conclusion of 2013 could further prove there are great things ahead for her after finishing fifth in sand saves, seventh in birdies, and first in eagles.

MY QUIET TIME Week Seven Day one A survey was given to 1,261 eighth-graders nation-wide. The findings reported that adolescents who practiced in religious activities have a higher level of self-esteem than those who don't participate. The researchers, Psychologists Yong Dai and Rebecca Nolan of Louisiana State University in Shreveport and Qing Zeng of Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., said the findings apparently show that churches and other religious institutions teach people how to have positive images of themselves. The researchers also said that religious activities are often something a family does together, and these adolescents appear to be "closer with their parents, which also may play a role in their self-esteem. Relationship with parents is still strong in the younger adolescent's life in spite of increasing importance of peer relationships." ~Romans 8:31-39~ {verses 38 and 39 are the memory verses for this week} 31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? He released five gold (million-copy-selling) records before 1955. Living in the ninth ward of NewOrleans when Hurricane Katrina was approaching in August 2005 he chose to stay at home with his family, partly because of his wifes poor health. His house was in an area that was heavily flooded. After being rescued he and his family were taken to a Baton Rouge shelter, after which they were picked up by JaMarcus Russell, the former starting quarterback of the Louisiana State University football team and Oakland Raiders. He let this man family stay in his apartment. The Washington Post reported that on September 2, they had left Russell's apartment after sleeping three nights on the couch. President George W. Want to improve the eating and exercise habits of your kids? Try these suggestions. Rumor has it, lots of these will work for the whole family! * When kids are thirsty, give them water, not high-sugar beverages such as sodas. Serve fat-free or low-fat milk at meals. * For treat foods, provide healthy fruits and snacks such as grapes, raisins and string cheese. When your child selects an unhealthy snack, redirect and give choices: Do you want strawberries, carrots or melon for your snack? * Consume food and drinks only at the kitchen or dining room table or other designated areas. * Have children eat a healthy breakfast. * Reduce eating fast food to less than once a week. * At the grocery store, have children select one fruit and vegetable to try each week and skip the candy, cookie and soda aisles. * Provide opportunities for young children to safely climb, run and jump to encourage the development of muscular strength and endurance. * Let your children try a variety of activities such as sports, dance, m ...

In the words of Drew: "Be careful Moors, some of your own will put you back into slavery". … Some States passed their laws for the specific purpose of forcing the Negroes back to the plantations and farms. Socially the Codes were designed to govern relations between the races to define the position of the former slaves in the Southern Society, and to invest the Negroes with a recognized and legal although subordinate status. “A History of the United States” by Harry Williams, of Louisiana State University, Richard N. In 1964, when the British Invasion was in progress and American rockers were tough to find on the U.S. pop charts, Johnny Rivers was one of the first to regain a foothold; his first Top 10 record came right in the midst of Beatlemania. His formula was much the same as the British style vintage American  rock n' roll and R&B played with a verve and simplicity that gave his music a contemporary edge. Over the next four years his funky, go-go rock gave him a steady stream of Top 10 records. His first record came when, against the advice of the record company, he abruptly switched gears and began cutting ballads.   The southern tone in much of Rivers' music was authentic. John Henry Ramistella was born November 7, 1942, in New York City. When he was about five, his father wound up out of work. IHSA Zone 7, Region 2 started their hunter seat season later than all but one region. The University of Oklahoma may have hosted their first IHSA shows ever on November 2nd & 3rd, with schools from a specific state to the southeast winning each. Tulane University surprised some by winning on the 2nd, defeating defending region champion Louisiana State 33-32. This marks the first time in the history of the Tulane IHSA program that the Green Wave held first place overall in their region. A day later LSU won by a point over the Green Wave, 37-36 to even things up through two shows. After many seasons without fielding an IHSA team the University of Texas (at Austin) scored six points on the 2nd and 13 on the 3rd. At one time the Longhorns were very competitive, earning a Zone 7, Region 2 hunter seat region title in 1995 and perhaps others between 1993 and 1999. Can oarfish predict earthquakes? Maybe it's not as crazy as it sounds-31,oct,2013 Finding a giant oarfish washed up on the beach is a rare occurrence, since the fish is a deepwater species that's rarely seen at all. So when a second oarfish was found just five days later, the rumor mill kicked into high gear. An 18-foot-long (5.5-meter) oarfish carcass discovered on Oct. 13 was considered a once-in-a-lifetime event for beachgoers on Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. But that event was followed five days later by a second oarfish, measuring 14 feet (4.3 meters), found on a beach in San Diego County. Now, some are claiming that oarfish washing ashore is a sign that an earthquake will soon follow. Shortly before the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami struck Japan, about 20 oarfish stranded themselves on beaches in the area, Mark Benfield, a researcher at Louisiana State University, told LiveScience in an earlier interview. The oarfish is known in Japan as ryugu no tsukai or "messenger fro ...
