AIUDF flays Sushma over Gita controversy Staff Reporter, The Assam Tribune. GUWAHATI, Dec 9 – The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today criticised External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for trying to create an unnecessary controversy by raising the issue of granting national scripture status to the Bhagavad Gita. In a statement, AIUDF general secretary (Organisation) and MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Kasimi said that holy books should be kept away from such controversies. Trying to do the otherwise is to insult such holy scriptures. He added that the Constitution of India is based on the foundations of secular principles and the country is inhabited by people of various castes, religions and ethnic groups. “Such type of demands can hurt the unity and integrity of the country,” Kasimi said. He said that the BJP has already changed its stance on various issues since the Lok Sabha Elections and is now trying to further divert people’s attention by raising such controversial issues. New Delhi: There was no proposal to raise the import duty on apples, union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh told parliament Tuesday. Replying to a question from Himachal Pradesh MP Virender Kashyap in the Lok Sabha, he said "the import duty on apples is 35 percent and there is no proposal of the central government to raise it further at present". Kashyap had requested the central government to enhance import duty on apples to protect the domestic fruit industry. "The apples from other countries are being imported in a big way, which is hampering the interest of apple growers in India," he said, noting that the last National Democratic Alliance regime headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee had raised the import duty to 50 percent, which should be further raised keeping in view the interest of the local apple growers. The minister meanwhile said apple production in Himachal Pradesh rose from 275 tonne in 2011-12 to 738.72 tonne in 2013-14. In Jammu and Kashmir, the apple production in 2011-12 was 1,775 tonne ...

BJP wanted files on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose made public, now government says no: The BJP-led government has refused to make public nearly 39 classified files on the mysterious disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and related matters, in sharp contrast to the demands of disclosure raised by its senior leaders when in Opposition. In January when the Lok Sabha election campaign was at its peak, the then BJP president Rajnath Singh, during a visit to Cuttack - the birthplace of Netaji - on the occasion of his 117th birth anniversary, had demanded that the UPA government make public the records related to the freedom fighter. Singh is now the Home Minister. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a recent RTI reply accepted that there were 41 files related to Bose, of which two had been declassified, but refused to disclose them taking a position similar to that of the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government. "Disclosure of documents contained in these files would prejudicially affect relations with forei ...

Bhakts must remember that Modi filed false affidavits repeatedly till 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, claiming himself to be a bachelor (never married). Filing false affidavit is a cognizable offends u/s 199 & 200. In 2014 LS polls, following a media expose, Mr Modi first time acknowledged Mrs Jashodaben as his lawfully wedded wife in an affidavit. Now, what are the entitlements of a wife is anyone's guess. Even the poorest of the common men has to pay Maintainance to his estranged wife. Our PM, while himself travels in wide-body personal jet and uses an armoured BMW 7 Series for ground travel to visit the podium from where he makes promises on women empowerment, has no idea where his own women is and how she makes her ends meet! Bhakts - this one is for you. I think Jashodaben, being a teacher all her life, can make a better HRD minister than Smriti Irani, an actor. But she is the right choice for Modi. What is he himsel ...

WARNING - This is long and painful and will kill your Sunday. BIG CHANGE? NOT SO SOON Finance Minister Arun Jaitley says the government is keen to push some important legislation, including the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill, during the winter session of Parliament starting Monday, Nov. 24. This seems impossible given the present strength of the NDA in Parliament. It is unlikely that the Congress and other anti-Modi parties will help the government get its way. *** for tat and all that. For instance, the Constitution Amendment Bill will require the support of a two-thirds majority in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and ratification by a majority of state legislatures and only then goes to the President for approval. So that's very far away. But what about other bills? There are 545 seats in the Lok Sabha, but there are only 541 at present, excluding the Speaker; 245 seats in the Rajya Sabha (five more could be nominated). The BJP, with 280, already has a majority in the Lok Sabha. NDA, together, ha ...

Jaitley has failed people of Punjab: Captain Amarinder Singh. CHANDIGARH: Amritsar MP and deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Captain Amarinder Singh, on Friday said that the Union budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had failed on everybody's expectations and more so the Punjabis who had been promised much more by SAD ahead of general elections. Amarinder alleged that contrary to the hype generated by NDA, the budget had turned out to be a mere wish-list of the BJP without having any resources to back up those wishes. The former Punjab Chief Minister said SAD, too, must be disappointed as its leaders had sold great dreams to people of the state saying once Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister and Arun Jaitley the finance minister, Punjab would be out of financial troubles. "Punjab, which was expecting some relief, did not get anything except a promise of an IIM," he said, adding, "Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Chief Minister son had made out as if Jaitley was going ...

Mushrooming political parties: Registration rules should be tightened There are about 1600 registered political parties in the country with most of them having never contested any election. It is because registered political parties get many facilities especially including dual-axed exemptions from Income Tax on contributions made by and to political parties. Rules should be tightened so that such political parties not serious in contesting elections including having not participated in recently held Lok Sabha Elections may be immediately de-registered. It may be compulsory for a political party to participate in elections within say one year of getting ad-hoc registered, failing which it may lose its registration. Also rules for being recognised political parties as national and state level political parties should be further tightened to pave way for an ideal system of fewer political parties. Since political parties are not complying with full-bench CIC-verdict holding political parties under purview o ...
What The Hon. Tony Abbott MP Prime Minister said before inviting Hon. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in Parliament Madam Speaker, Mr President. It is long overdue for an Indian Prime Minister to address this Parliament – given that the leaders of the United States, China, Indonesia, Britain, Canada, Japan and New Zealand have already done so. But I am personally delighted that this omission is at last corrected. It is fitting that – in the home of our democracy – we should be addressed by the leader of the world’s largest democracy. There is so much that we can learn from a Prime Minister who must try to reach some 830 million voters and whose mastery of electioneering has meant that in India’s recent election he was literally beamed into dozens of different rallies simultaneously all-round the country. Prime Minister Modi is the first in decades with an absolute majority in the lower house, the Lok Sabha – because he imbued his fellow citizens with the sure hope that tomorrow can be be ...

J&K Assembly elections & BJP’s ‘Mission 44+ . Buoyed by its performance in the Lok Sabha Elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to make inroads in the Valley by fielding Kashmiri Muslims and Pandits in the Assembly election to accomplish its ‘Mission 44-plus’, a feat that will enable it to form a government in India’s only Muslim-majority state. Notwithstanding the efforts by the BJP to enroll a number of Muslim leaders and workers in the party fold, it will have to go that extra mile to win over the trust and confidence of the majority community in the state. Going by the past records, the BJP is yet to make its presence felt in the Valley, where some of the candidates fielded by the party could manage to get votes because of their local influence. The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has 87 seats – 46 from Kashmir valley, 37 from Jammu region and four from Ladakh. In its initially list, BJP has agreed mandate to 10 Muslims and three Kashmiri Pandits from ...

The first major campaign of the Jana Sangh was an agitation demanding the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir into India. Mookerjee was arrested for violating orders preventing him from leading the protest in Kashmir, and died in jail a few months later, of a heart attack. The leadership of the organisation devolved onto Deendayal Upadhyaya, and eventually next-generation leaders such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L. K. Advani . However, the vast majority of the party workers, including Upadhyaya, were still adherents of the RSS. Despite the momentum gained through the Kashmir agitation, the Jana Sangh won just three Lok Sabha seats in the first general elections in 1952. It maintained a minor presence in parliament until 1967. During this period, a uniform civil code for all Indians, banning cow slaughter, and abolishing the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir were among the main points on the party's agenda. [9][10][11] After nationwide assembly elections in 1967, the party entered into a coal ...

STALINIST CPM SLIDES BACK AND TURNS FURTHER TO RIGHT Central Committee meeting of Stalinist CPI (M) on October 26, has taken a sharp right turn, virtually reversing the decisions of 20th Kozhikode Congress of the Party. Led by Polit Bureau member, Sitaram Yechury it has regretted its decision of having break with UPA led by Congress under Sonia Gandhi. After the shameful performance of Left Front in 2009 Lok Sabha Elections, the CPM has reviewed its policies In its 20th Congress and has pledged to keep itself at equi-distance itself from UPA and NDA. Now, through a resolution moved by Yechury and passed unanimously in its CC, once again CPM has cleared the road to go back into folds of Congress. Analysing the resolutions of 20th Congress we have already underscored the opportunist zig-zag of CPM and predicted in advance the course taken by CPM: young cadres and workers, still look but in vain towards these opportunists for any stride forward to revolution. Stalinists have a black history of adherence to . ...
Election in Jammu And Kashmir Kashmir is still recovering from the devastation of the recent floods; the State and Central governments are still involved in relief and rehabilitation operations. But extraordinary as these circumstances are in the Valley, deferring the Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir was never an option before the Election Commission. Any postponement of the election process would only have added a political dimension to the administrative crisis in the State, stretching further the already strained capabilities of the National Conference government. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appeared to have been motivated by the rationale of his own political survival when he mooted the deferring of the election in order to better deal with the flood crisis. In view of security considerations — militancy in Kashmir — the polls are spread over five phases beginning November 25 and ending on December 20. As in the Lok Sabha election, in J&K, the People’s Democratic Party is expected to eat ...

If numbers are anything to go by Modi ji has made all out efforts and left no stone unturned as far as elections in Haryana and Maharashtra are concerned. The results are there for all to see. BJP created a history of sorts in winning both the State Elections thereby consolidating his position in both the states. This is also a way by which he can have a firm control over the politics of both the states and also a method ( if RSS allows and I am sure they will)in which his own policies and development –related issues can be practiced bringing large scale development and progress to both the states. In the previous elections prior to Lok Sabha Elections, even though BJP made a mark (and we were sure they would have) it did not necessarily mean he could have his way through. With states like Bihar,UP,West Bengal etc gong to elections in some time it should be made clear NaMo would clinch( or at least try to) as many states as he possibly can. With a clean image that he has been able to maintain it would n ...

History and the nationalist project Oct 11, 2014 01:35 AM , By Subramanian Swamy | 117 comments FLAWED NARRATIVE: FLAWED NARRATIVE: What concerns Indian nationalists is that in spite of the application of science to questions of history, Nehruvian historians refuse to update materials that go into making history books It is good to see Digvijaya Singh of the Congress Party finding time from his life of leisure and party responsibilities to address ideological issues raised by me that arise from the task of re-writing our history text books and de-falsification of the same. In his article “History, battleground for politics” published in The Hindu on October 10, Mr. Singh alleges that my call for burning Indian history books written by Nehruvian historians, made at a public meeting in Delhi, is part of a larger conspiracy of the Sangh Parivar to devalue the contribution made by Jawaharlal Nehru in our history. My answer to that would be my intention is not to conspire, since my contempt for Nehru is no ...

Abhimanyu leads, Savitri Jindal of Congress trails Captain Abhimanyu, touted as BJP's CM candidate in Haryana is leading in his constituency Narnaund. Savitri Jindal, considered India's richest woman, also the mother of Congress MP Naveen Jindal, is trailing in her hometown Hisar. Jindal is worth worth $14.4 billion she also is the world's 56th richest person, according to Wikipedia. That should come as a shock to Congress as Hisar is traditionally their stronghold and early reports suggested that voters are in the mood to back Jindal as their chosen MLA. And IBN Live report from five days ago quoted several residents of Hisar hailing Jindal's work for the constituency and declaring her the winner, though way too prematurely. The report, in fact, said that BJP Kamal Gupta was hardly as popular because of how unapproachable he was. However, if the early trends don't change soon, it will be evident that Jindal's sociable nature hardly worked for her this time. Latest lead tally: BJP --- 43, INLD --- 16, Con ...

Rahul Gandhi gives call to launch Save Punjab campaign from November 14 Chandigarh, October 16: The Congress vice-president, Mr Rahul Gandhi, today initiated the giant step forward to gear up the party to confront the Akali Dal-BJP alliance with the announcement to launch Save Punjab campaign from November 14 to eradicate the menace of drugs. Referring to the anger of tsunami among people sweeping across length and breadth of the state, he expressed the optimism that none could defeat a united Congress in the next Assembly elections due in 2017. A question to RAMA Devotees Do you ever remember one K.K. Nair from Kerala, an ICS officer who was District Magistrate Faizabad (Ayodhya) when the IDOL OF RAM LALLA was installed in the Babri structure at Ayodhya on Dec 22, 1949 ?. The Government had said 'but for K.K. Nair, ICS District Magistrate , Faizabad, the Hindus would not have got the Ram Temple at Ayodhya. Nair had resigned after Prime Minister Nehru reprimanded him alegedly at the instance of Maulana Azad for allowing the Hindus to install the idol. He started practice at Allahabad. Both K.K. and his wife Shakuntala Nair rsemained Members of Lok Sabha on Jana Sangh ticket for several years from the adjoining constituencies Faizabad and Kaisar Ganj.

Haryana & Maharashtra election results once again proved that BJP is only alternative of Congress. Only consolation for congress that they won more seats then lok Sabha in Maharashtra. The era of regional parties has gone. But both BJP and Congress are different sides of same coin. We were thankful for congress, because they give us independence but they takes us granted. Now, people has given chance to BJP to prove that they are different. But till now their own people trying to prove that RSS is a real Hindu dharm and they are painting the image of PM as Aurangzeb.
Watching the election coverage on television, am baffled at the bravado exhibitted by some of the congressmen, saying anytg to justify the maharashtra-haryana debacle as just a setback...Either the party is in self denial mode or still dwelling in a 'make-believe' world at their own peril...The party is in power in just two states in the north and two in the south of the country..and as columnist Shankkar Aiyar said in the Indian Express today, " if you drive from the Indo-pak border in the west through the Gangetic plains up to the Bay of Bengal, you wont encounter a single congress govt...you could also drive from the Kerala border though TN, AP, Odisha and WB upto the Bay of Bengal again you dont find a single congress govt"...nationally the party doesnt have even 10 percent of the total Lok Sabha seats. The once grand old party is certainly on its deathbed.the sooner the congressmen realise this and learn to turn a new leaf, the better it is for the party...otherwise doomsday doesnt seem to be far!.# ...
Congress leaders concede defeat in Maharashtra, Haryana assembly polls: As early trends predicted a defeat for the Congress Party in Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections, party leaders have reportedly accepted the inevitable, and are now pitching for improvement in the future. "Early trends have made it clear that results are not on the lines we expected. There is an anti-incumbency factor, but we have performed better than we did in the Lok Sabha polls," said Congress leader Rajiv Shukla. Shukla, however, continued to maintain that there was no Modi wave in the two states or across the country and opined that the Bharatiya Janata Party's performance has lowered down in comparison to its performance in the May 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. He also said that the ruling party's popularity and influence has also decreased. The president of the Congress Party's Haryana unit, Ashok Tanwar, said, "We accept the public's mandate with respect and modesty, we will introspect." Maharashtra Congress unit president ...
Ram Vilas Paswan says NDA intact despite trouble in Maharashtra, Haryana: BJP and its oldest ally Shiv Sena may have parted ways and the Modi wave may have taken a beating in the assembly by-elections but another key NDA constituent Lok Janshakti Party does not feel that it may be the beginning of the saffron coalition's erosion. LJP chief and Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan also does not agree with reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was overwhelming in the Cabinet in which ministers had no freedom to function. He says Lok Sabha Elections and assembly polls are different from each other and issues are different. "Modi says he will not target Bal Thackeray. Shiv Sena says it will not attack BJP at the Centre and would be part of the NDA coalition. This sums up the relationship among allies at the Centre," Paswan told PTI analysing the coalition troubles at the state level and downplaying their impact at the national level. AAP’s stance on contesting elections Aam Aadmi Party is not contesting the Assembly elections in Maharashtra. Lok Sabha election results brought a realization that it is not possible to win elections without a strong grass root organizational structure. In addition we realized that due to the lack of resources and inability of party to give financial support, many candidates had to struggle to fight elections. It has therefore been decided that we should concentrate on strengthening our organization, establishing processes and systems, building the infrastructure for communication with our volunteers and empowering our volunteers through training, such that when we do contest elections we will have a a strong volunteer base and organizational strength which will enable us to fight traditional politics. Presently AAP Maharashtra will not contest any elections and we will also not support any one in the forthcoming assembly elections, neither independent candidates nor any political parties. Also if any A ...

Narendra Modi government moves to repeal 323 archaic laws: Moving to weed out archaic laws, government has identified at least 323 Acts to be repealed and bills in this regard would be pushed during the next session of Parliament. It is also working to junk 700 Appropriation Acts passed by Parliament over the years, which have no relevance anymore as they have one-time use of enabling withdrawal of funds by the government. "While a bill is pending in Parliament to repeal 32 amendment Acts and four principal Acts, we plan to bring another bill to repeal 287 similar Acts," Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here. The bill introduced in Lok Sabha during the Budget session to repeal a total of 36 Acts is now with a Parliamentary Standing Committee which is expected to give its report ahead of the Winter session likely to begin in November. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, soon after taking over in May, had identified repeal of "archaic" laws and rules as one of his priorities. During his address at ...

When the entire nation (well, almost...) is celebrating the success of the Mangalyaan and basking in pride, there have been a few interesting remarks that I have come across on the social media and whatsapp groups. The most recurring ones have been in the line of "filling hungry stomachs must be higher in the pecking order than looking out for what is in Mars" because it cost the government of India, a whopping Rs 454 crores!! So I decided to look into few numbers in recent times that was spent not on filling stomachs and get a perspective. Rs 950 crores collected by Chennai Express and Dhoom 3. Rs 2,991 crores spent on Haj subsidies in 2013. Rs 4,960 crores collected by the IPL and CLT20 as revenue in 2013 Rs 6,300 crores spent by the govt of Karnataka in loan waivers in 2014 alone Rs 11,500 crores spent on the Commonwealth Games 2010 (not considering Suresh Kalmadi and inflation). Rs 30,000 crores spent on the Lok Sabha Elections 2014. Finally the Food Security Bill which was "supposed" to fill the hun ...

How Congress lost Amar Singh: He can be seen these days cosying up to his old friend turned foe, Mulayam Singh Yadav. Rumours are that a Rajya Seat for Amar Singh may be in the offing. But what is interesting is that Singh had first tried to align with the Congress. Before the Lok Sabha polls, he even met party general secretary in charge of UP Madhusudan Mistry, for a possible ticket from the Congress. However, Mistry simply read from his files when Singh came calling, then looked up from under his bushy eyebrows and asked, "But I don't see an application from you." A fuming Singh just got up and left. Later, a Congress leader quipped, "What did Mistry think Amar Singh wanted? A job in his garage?" This story is doing the rounds at AICC as an example to show how out of touch with reality Mistry is. It is of course another matter that Mistry continues to be in charge of ticket distribution for the UP bypolls slated in September.
Will Modi conduct India’s namkaran?-Prof Kancha Ilaiah article in,Asian age 22 Aug 2014 " If Sangh Parivar forces keep baying for cultural nationalist agendas, Narendra Modi will become helpless… he will not be able to stop these culture-vultures and his corporate development agenda will undergo a change" There is a slow but systematic attempt to change India’s name from Bharat to Hindustan — playing up the word “Hindu” in Hindustan and trying to repackage it as the abode of the Hindus. B.R. Ambedkar and his team that drafted the Constitution of India consciously avoided the term “Hindustan” as they could foresee its implications in a land that takes pride in its diversity. Shortly after the Bharatiya Janata Party toppled the power equations in Delhi and Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister, a Shiv Sena MP, Prataprao Jadhav, remarked in the Lok Sabha that a saffron flag should be hoisted atop the historic Red Fort as “Hindustan” belongs to Hindus. His lone argument was that Hindu- ...
Badal Sahib's trusted friend: Kanwar Sandhu Today is the polling day in both Talwandi Sabo and Patiala bypolls in Punjab and let us see how the voters express their preferences. Since the results will be our in four days time, we will not know the outcome immediately. However, just a day before the polling, a very unfortunate incident was reported in Jagaram Tirath Village, the native village of Baljinder Kaur, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate. The AAP candidate and her driver, Gurbux Singh, were attacked when they objected to some Akali Dal workers not only campaigning after the time for the same was up but also allegedly distributing money and liquor. During this attack, the driver was badly injured and hospitalised. While efforts are on to reach a compromise, the important question is: who is this person involved in the attack? He is none other than a person called Dyal Singh Kolianwali, who is so close to the Punjab CM, Parkash Singh Badal, that he celebrates the CM's birthday at his native village ...

After having stood out as the worst ever government even by NC standards, the Omar Abdullah government has exposed itself as the worst loser as well. Though victory and defeat are part of democracy, yet NC leadership is severely unnerved by their defeat in Lok Sabha polls and the prospect of imminent rout in the forthcoming assembly elections, and that is why in desperation they are continuing to pushed the state into anarchy and chaos. This anarchist approach adopted by ruling NC government is further taking the sate into despair and alienation and the NC leadership instead of working seriously for the people’s cause, has further alienated with its utterly callous attitude and mis-governance. And even after having read the writing on the wall, ruling party leadership has adopted an ostrich like attitude and is now trying to mislead the people through fake promises and deceptive announcements. Bhagat Singh Bhagat Singh Date of Birth : Sep 27, 1907 Date of Death : Mar 23, 1931 Place of Birth : Jalandhar Bhagat Singh (September 27, 1907 – March 23, 1931) was an Indian revolutionary, considered to be one of the most famous martyrs of the Indian freedom struggle. For this reason, he is often referred to as Shaheed Bhagat Singh (the word shaheed means “martyr”). Bhagat Singh was born into a Sikh family to Sardar Kishan Singh and Vidyavati in the Khatkar Kalan village near Banga in the Jalandhar district of Punjab. His uncle, Sardar Ajit Singh, as well as his father, were great freedom fighters, so Bhagat Singh grew up in a patriotic atmosphere. Ajit Singh established the Indian Patriots’ Association, along with Syed Haidar Raza, to organize the peasants against the Chenab Canal Colony Bill. He also established the secret organization, the Bharat Mata Society. At an early age, Bhagat Singh started dreaming of uprooting the British empire. In his fiery speech in Lok Sabha, Yogi Adityanath ruefully said that the Opposition has been working on Pakistan's agenda. We think, Pakistan's agenda is to destabilise and break india by inciting India's own population against it. Pakistan has achieved partial success in J&K, where jihadis demand separation. Congress and allies by creating thousands of divides (like Sachar Commitee, Communal Violence Bill, Minority Reservation etc.) within our nation and appeasing the divisive anti-indian forces, is toeing the same line as Pakistan. They almost gifted Siachin to Pakistan, and instead of countering bloody terrorist attacks on the nation – kept harping about their figment of imagination named ‘Saffron Terror’. All of this and uncountable more facts justify Yogi Adityanath's statement. But that's just us. What do YOU think? Let Congress know your opinion. Thanks _ You can watch Yogi Adityanath's ‘politically-incorrect’ speech here: can check out the truth of Sachar Committee here:

Amit Shah has also appointed BJP National Executive Member Dr. Nirmal Singh as Chairman, Election Campaign Committee for forthcoming J&K Assembly polls, a move that political observers considered just short of projecting him the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate. The effort is seen as a part of the party's move to revamp its Jammu and Kashmir state unit and prepare itself for the upcoming Assembly polls. The appointment of Dr. Nirmal Singh, as Chairman of Election Campaign Committee has been made keeping in view his vast experience in organizational and political matters. It has been welcomed by the party cadre as they are of the firm belief that Dr. Singh’s close rapport with the ground level activists in each constituency ...

Happy Independence Day India has a long history to tell about itself since independent till now. On the occasion of India’s 68th Independence Day, here are some interesting and unknown facts related to India and independence. 1. National flag was hoisted first on August 7, 1906 at the Parsee Bagan Square in Calcutta. The flag was composed of horizontal strips of red, yellow and green. The red strip at the top had eight white lotuses embossed on it in a row. The green strip had a white sun on the left and a white crescent and star on the right. 2. The name `India' is derived from the River Indus, the valleys around which were the home of the first inhabitants of India. The Sanskrit name for India is Bharat Ganarajya. Sikh MP spoke in Bangla Tribune News Service New Delhi, August 12 Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia won many hearts in Lok Sabha today when he chose to speak in Bangla while batting for the inclusion of a local north Bengali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
