NIGERIA MAY LOSE MORE TERRITORIES TO CAMEROUN, SAYS BAKASSI LEADER NIGERIA runs the risk of losing more of its territories to Cameroun, a pro-Bakassi group warned yesterday. The group-’The Coalition to Save the Bakassi People of Nigeria,’ warned of the consequencies of the Federal Government support for Akwa Ibom State against Cross River State over the ownership of the disputed oil wells. Its coordinator Mr. Ani Esin said the posture of the federal authority may in the long run force Nigeria to yield more territories to Cameroun beyond what was ceded as ordered by the International Court of Justice (IJC) in Hagues, The Netherlands. Esin, whose organisation spear-headed the recent protest by the Bakassi indigenes in Calabar, also criticised the claims by the people of Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom that because Akwa Ibom indigenes had a sizeable presence in Bakassi Peninsula before it was ceded to Cameroun, they, more than Cross Riverians, were the bigger victims. Friends, I was chatting with a political office holder the other day on the issues of embezzlement of public funds for selfish interest by some unscrupulous politicians and was traumatized by his response “well, that’s how it has always been!” I sincerely believe if our political system must change for the betterment of the masses, words like this must never be used. Moreover, I envisage a total revolution in our political system. Long live Itu Local Government Area! Long live Akwa Ibom State. And God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
