Daily Kos Elections Morning Digest Leading Off: AK-Sen: The New York Times takes an interesting look at Democratic outreach among Native Americans in Alaska, who make up about a fifth of the state's population but are often difficult to reach as they're spread across the state's vast wilderness; tend to have low voter turnout; often deal with a lack of election materials printed in native languages; and don't typically divide their loyalties along traditional party lines. But native voters were a key bloc in electing Sen. Mark Begich in 2008, and Democrats are deploying an army of 130 field workers around the state to reach out to them this cycle. A tireless campaign, Begich himself has traveled many miles to meet with native communities, and Democrats are also hopeful that their gubernatorial nominee, Byron Mallot, will drive up the native vote as he's an Alaska Native himself. However, the GOP frontrunner, Dan Sullivan, is married to a prominent native woman, and Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who will almost cer ...

The medal recognizes Lauren's lifetime contributions to American entrepreneurship, artistry, and creativity, as well as his contributions to helping to preserve the Star-Spangled Banner. Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rep. Lisa Murkowski welcomed the new citizens and spoke about Lauren's contributions.
Man, Mark Levin is going crazy about the fund raiser held last night for Senator Cochran at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) headquarters. No senator would really provide any meaningful comment to the press after the meeting. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), said he is supporting the Senior Senator because he is an incumbent. Apparently, this group supports all incumbents. No wonder we have no chance for term limits. The list of attendees who offered financial support include: Sens. Roger Wicker (R-MS), Lisa Murkowski (R-AL), Rob Portman (R-OH), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), John Barrasso (R-WY), John Thune (R-SD), John Cornyn (R-TX), Bob Corker (R-TN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Dean Heller (R-NV), Richard Shelby (R-AL), and McConnell (R-KY). Conservative and Tea Party groups are using ALIPAC's 2014 political targets list to recruit and identify GOP primary challenger candidates who oppose the elitist plan to give immigration reform amnesty to 20 million illegal aliens that would in turn become a new voting bloc that would dominate American politics into the future. Incumbent Republicans being targeted for removal by the more than 80% of the GOP Primary voters who disagree with their support for Obama's and Boehner's style of amnesty-driven immigration reform include, but are not limited to, Senators Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Lamar Alexander, Dean Heller, Susan M. Many Republican "leaders" of today are afraid of their own shadows. Men like John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and women like Lisa Murkowski all say " Oh, boo hoo , I don't want to be torn to shreds by Chris Matthews or Brian Williams or Diane Sawyer or Scott Pelley or Wolf Blitzer". What the Republican Party needs is a strong conservative like Ronald Reagan in the 1980's who stood up to the media hounds and rebuked them whenever it became necessary.
Here is the list of the Democratic wing of the Republican Party, they voted for Amnesty. I have two morons representing my state on this list! I look forward to kicking them OUT. Marco Rubio (Fla.) Lamar Alexander (Tenn.) Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) Jeffrey Chiesa (N.J.) Susan Collins (Maine) Bob Corker (Tenn.) Jeff Flake (Ariz.) Lindsey Graham (S.C.) Orrin Hatch (Utah) Dean Heller (Nev.) John Hoeven (N.D.) Mark Kirk (Ill.) John McCain (Ariz.) Amnesty is only for Democrats to gain 12-20 million more votes, they care nothing about the people, they will promise more 'free' stuff and you cannot beat more free stuff. This will only turn the power, indefinitely, over to the Democrats. So, basically the end of Amerika as you know it.
FC Tea Party Patriot Alliance House/Senate Action: Week of 4/7/14-4/13/14 The House and Senate are both in recess this week, and will remain in recess next week. UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE EXTENSION: As we discussed last Sunday night, the Senate’s first action of the week was to take up the Unemployment Insurance extension bill. It passed, but only by a vote of 59-38, with three Senators not voting. Only six Republicans voted the wrong way – Kelly Ayotte of NH, Susan Collins of ME, Dean Heller of NV, Mark Kirk of IL, Lisa Murkowski of AK, and Rob Portman of OH. Speaker Boehner and the rest of the House GOP Leadership responded with a great big “Meh.” During the course of the week, the House Leadership reiterated that a simple extension of emergency unemployment benefits was a non-starter with them, and nothing along those lines would pass unless and until it was amended to include something, anything to help create more jobs. ... Which is the Leadership’s code for saying there’s a possible deal to ...

Urgent: Karl Rove Trying To Scuttle Another Republican Candidate As you may remember, Tea Party favorite Joe Miller BEAT RINO Lisa Murkowski in the GOP Primary two years ago, but lost the General Election, in large part, because the GOP Establishment rallied hard behind RINO Lisa Murkowski's independent candidacy. Well now, Joe is poised to WIN AGAIN and he's asking for the help of patriotic Americans to stop GOP Elites, like Karl Rove, from snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Dear Friend of Liberty, Karl Rove and the Republican Establishment are terrified that we will win this race. That's why the Washington consultant class has been telling conservatives that they must settle for a "me too" Big Government Republican. Not only is that not true, they're only spreading this lie because they know we're poised to win. The decision by Mr. McConnell, as well as Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R., Texas), to vote to advance the bill was a politically risky step because both are up for reelection in 2014. They face primary challenges from tea-party candidates who are sure to use this vote against them, as a sign that they are supporting big government spending. In the crucial procedural vote, 12 Republicans joined all 55 members of the Senate Democratic caucus to advance the procedural measure. The Republicans were Sens. WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Federal Flood Insurance Premiums – Passage - Vote Passed (67-32, 1 Not Voting) Senators on Thursday voted to delay increases to premiums billed by the National Flood Insurance Program until after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) completes a study on flood insurance affordability. The bill would require FEMA to certify its flood mapping approach before certain rate changes are made and would allow insurance agents and brokers to sell insurance in multiple states without additional licensing. Farm and Nutrition Programs Conference Report – Passage - Vote Agreed to (68-32) On Tuesday, the Senate voted to adopt the conference report on the bill that would reauthorize most federal farm and nutrition programs through fiscal 2018, sending the measure to the president. Senators agreed to cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by $8 billion over 10 years. The bill would also reauthorize sugar and dairy subsidy programs, replace $5 billion in direct payments to farmers with two new subs ...
There’s absolutely no reason for a senator from Alaska to be so knowledgeable about nuclear energy, yet Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) is and has been one of its staunchest advocates. This is doubtless because she is the ranking member of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

Chastened G.O.P. Tries to Foil Insurgents at Primary Level By JEREMY W. PETERS FEB. 9, 2014 Richard H. Black, a Republican state senator in Virginia, holding plastic fetuses. He announced his candidacy for the House, but dropped out under pressure from powerful Republicans. Steve Helber/Associated Press WASHINGTON — Richard H. Black is a Republican state senator from the Northern Virginia suburbs who once sent plastic fetuses to his colleagues with a note attached: “Would you kill this child?” He said a statue of Lincoln had no business going up in Richmond because it would be “sort of like putting the Confederate flag at the Lincoln Memorial.” And he tried to block unmarried, *** and *** couples from receiving state home loans, saying that would “subsidize sodomy and adultery.” Mr. Black easily won his latest race, and had party leaders on his side. But when he started exploring a run for Congress last month, he felt a distinct chill. Some Republicans were concerned that he could becom ...
U.S. House Passes Pro-Sportsmen SHARE Act The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industries, praised the passage today by the U.S. House of Representatives of the bipartisan Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act. “The SHARE Act will help ensure that our nation’s outdoor traditions are preserved, protected and promoted. This bipartisan legislation addresses many key priorities for American hunters and recreational shooters and its passage by the House represents a significant accomplishment for the sportsmen’s community and for America,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF senior vice president and general counsel. “We would especially like to thank the leadership of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, Congressmen Bob Latta (R-Ohio), Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), Rob Wittman (R-Va.) and Tim Walz (D-Minn.) for their bipartisan leadership and commitment to America’s sportsmen.” NSSF, alo ...
Latest news about unemployment. What about all the lazy people on welfare that they have been collecting all their life.At least people on unemployment have worked to pay into it. Harry Reid , Unemployment, Jack Reed, Politics News WASHINGTON -- Democrats failed on Thursday to win enough Republican votes to reauthorize long-term unemployment benefits for more than a million workers cut off in December. At least five Republicans needed to vote for the bill in order for it to advance, but only four did. The bill failed 58-to-40. "Because of the inaction of one person today there's a family, thousands of families who are going to miss mortgage payments and send their lives into economic chaos," said Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.). Even if the Senate eventually passes an extension of unemployment benefits, which seems unlikely, Republican leaders in the House of Representatives have been unenthusiastic about holding a vote. More than 1.7 million long-term jobless Americans have missed out on benefits since th ...

CONGRESS MEMBERS SALUTE GEORGETOWN’S 225TH ANNIVERSARY Happy Birthday Georgetown University!! JAN. 23, 2014 – SIX MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, five of whom are alumni, recently paid tribute to Georgetown in the Congressional Record to mark the 225th anniversary of the university's founding. On this day in 1789 the university’s founder, Bishop John Carroll, obtained the first deed for the land on which Georgetown, the oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution of higher education in the country, was built. Carroll secured the deed to about 60 acres of land overlooking the Potomac River. “Those of us whose lives have been shaped, at least in part, by this great institution are proud that it was founded in the same year that the United States was formed,” said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), a 1980 Georgetown College graduate. “Indeed, the two events were intertwined, and Georgetown's mission statement today continues to reflect that bond by emphasizing that the university ‘educates women and men to be ref ...

Begich Votes to Support Alaska Families Alaska Senators Support Unemployment Insurance Extension U.S. Sen. Mark Begich today released the following statement expressing disappointment that the Senate failed to extend unemployment insurance benefits, denying millions of dollars to thousands of Alaskans. Begich voted in favor of extending the benefits. “It’s unfortunate that a small group of extreme Senators decided to put partisan politics ahead of protecting families today. These unemployment benefits are not a handout; workers pay into the system with the assurance that they have something to fall back on if they are out of work involuntarily. Alaskan families have already lost over $6 million since benefits expired – that is $6 million that should be in Alaskans’ pockets and going back into the Alaska economy. While the Senate failed to pass a solution today, Sen. Lisa Murkowski and I both supported the measure and we’ll continue to work towards solutions to help the over 23,000 Alaskans who . ...
Decision on huge Bristol Bay mine belongs to Alaska, Sen. Lisa Murkowski says
Senators Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski, the problem remains that both the Senators from the Great State of Alaska broke the faith with the Alaskan Military Community by voting for the flawed legislation to begin with. It would be nice if our elected officials spent more time worrying about the considerations of their constituents and less time worrying about what the "party" wants. Also, if the legislation is BAD to begin with, it is easier to NOT vote for it than to try to FIX it later.
The keynote lunch is underway. US Senator Lisa Murkowski to speak shortly.

These 6 Republicans deserve praise for doing what is right for their constituents who are out there looking every single day, but are struggling to find a job. Before the vote, Majority Leader Harry Reid said that, “It’s true that the rich are getting richer, and everyone else is getting squeezed.” Reid said that among the unemployed who need an unemployment extension are 20,000 veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Dear Friend of Liberty, Twelve spineless Senate Republicans just threw us under the bus! They cut a dirty deal with the Democrats to kill debate on the terrible Ryan-Murray budget. Their vote meant the whole stinking mess never even got discussed. It went straight to a vote in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Of course, it passed. RINOs! They were too scared to debate this abomination of a budget. So they silenced everyone. Can you believe these cowards?! Hatch (UT), John Hoeven (ND), Johnny Isakson (GA), Ron Johnson (WI), John McCain (AZ), Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Rob Portman (OH). But that's not all they did. This dirty dozen also voted to cut benefits for our veterans, including those who were injured serving this country. That's right, these twelve sellouts joined the Democrats in voting for a budget that cuts vetera ...

Gun rights groups go after NSA By Megan R. Wilson - 11/02/13 Gun rights groups are throwing their weight behind efforts on Capitol Hill to rein in the National Security Agency (NSA). The National Rifle Association (NRA) is among a number of groups that have signed on to an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) lawsuit against the secretive government agency. The NRA has also endorsed bipartisan legislation proposed by House and Senate Judiciary committees that would end the NSA’s collection of bulk phone records. Another Second Amendment advocate, the Gun Owners of America, expects to back NSA legislation as well. “There are issues that, maybe at first blush, wouldn't seem like a gun issue, but once you start looking closely at the issues, they really do affect our gun rights,” said Erich Pratt, the director of communications for Gun Owners of America. Gun groups fear the NSA could have the authority under a section of the PATRIOT Act to collect information that could be used to create a federal gun ...

The free market won't be so free once Democrats get done with it. To try and tighten the government's grip on businesses, the President's party is moving on legislation that would suffocate employers' rights to run their workplace the way they see fit. Under the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), profits give way to political correctness, as radicals impose their own warped view of sexuality on every business owner, school administrator, and charity across America. Under the measure, which the Senate is considering late this afternoon, "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" -- not experience or performance -- would be the most important factor in any hiring, firing, or promotion decision. What people do in the bedroom would suddenly translate to the board room, as executives would be forced to give ...
The cloture vote on was a real nail-biter. Seems like Rob Portman and Pat Toomey needed pressure at the last minute to put the bill over the edge because Lisa Murkowski was gone.
PEDOPHILE TO BE COVER BY "ENDA?" Daniel Horowitz (Diary) While it’s possible to recover from fiscal bankruptcy, we will never recover from the moral bankruptcy in Washington. We will never build a free and prosperous country built upon the ruins of the civil society. But this week in Washington, Harry Reid’s Senate will spend the entire week using the power of government to infringe upon our liberty and destroy the civil society. As we noted on Thursday, the Senate “ENDA” bill (S.815) would bestow civil rights status on anyone who claim they were denied a job because of “such individual’s actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.” As part of a trial lawyer’s dream, the term “gender identity” is so vague and subjective that it includes “the gender-related identity, appearance, or mannerisms or other gender-related characteristics of an individual, with or without regard to the individual’s designated sex at birth.” Let’s put aside the issue of legislating imm .. ...

GOP Senator pressures House Republicans on Violence Against Women Act Greg Sargent It’s been widely reported that house Republicans are in a difficult spot over the Violence Against Women Act, at a time when the battle over the female vote has intensified between the parties. Now, with a high stakes vote on a version of the measure set for later today, things could get a bit harder: A female Republican Senator is joining with Democrats to call on House Republicans to drop their opposition to the Democratic version of the bill, which extends protections to same sex couples. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has added her name to a letter signed by Senator Patty Murray and 11 other Democratic Senators calling on John Boehner to pass the Senate version of the bill, which passed the Upper Chamber already with an overwhelming majority of 68 votes. House Republicans have been maneuvering behind the scenes to assuage women’s groups who are angry over the House GOP vrersion of the bill, which is set to get vot ...

Federal court won’t seal probe of lawyers who prosecuted senator Associated Press Wire Report Thursday, February 9, 2012 WASHINGTON — A federal judge yesterday rejected arguments from four attorneys who prosecuted the late Sen. Ted Stevens to keep private a report that reveals details of their mishandling of the case, but said he would not hold them criminally responsible for their “ill-gotten verdict.” U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered that a 500-page report into the Justice Department’s botched corruption case against Stevens be released March 15, along with any written objections the attorneys targeted in the investigation wish to include. Last November, Sullivan revealed that the special prosecutor he had appointed, Washington lawyer Henry F. Schuelke III, did not recommend criminal charges against any of the federal prosecutors despite finding widespread misconduct, at least some of it intentional. In an order yesterday, Sullivan formally confirmed that he is accepting Schuelke’s ...
Only three Alaskan leaders have stepped up to defend the "Fairbanks Four" who, by the looks of it may have been wrongfully convicted. Those Alaskan Leaders are Independent Governor candidate Bill Walker, Independent Lt. Governor Craig Fleener and US Senator Lisa Murkowski. Totally mum on the subject is the current Governor, Sean Parnell, and the Democratic candidate for Governor Byron Mallott. Alaskans who want justice to prevail should hope Bill Walker and Craig Fleener are elected so that a the "Fairbanks Four" will finally be given a fair and independent review and a new trial if necessary. This is something Gov Parnell and Byron Mallott have refused to advocate for. At this point they would only be following the leader.
