SLOVENIA CLAIMS ITS FIRST GOLD MEDAL IN Winter Olympics GAMES!! SOCHI 2014: Women's downhill features first shared gold medal!! Tina Maze and Dominique Gisin made Winter Olympics history in the women's downhill as they shared the gold medal in Sochi. Tina Maze and Switzerland's Gisin both recorded a time of 1min 41.57sec at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Centre to become the first athletes to share the top of the podium in the Winter Games. Gisin was the first to set the benchmark before Maze matched her, with another Swiss, Lara Gut, earning bronze after finishing 0.10 seconds adrift of the pair. Tina Maze was one of the pre-race favourites for gold in the absence of the injured Vancouver 2010 champion Lindsey Vonn. "I have no words. This doesn't feel real. I will have to see my team to get myself together and realise how much this means to us," said Maze, who claimed silver in the Super-G and giant slalom four years ago. "I have been dreaming about this since I was little. The first ski race I ever won in my .. ...
VAL D'ISERE, France -- Lindsey Vonn felt her injured right knee give way and for a moment it looked like her chances for another Olympic gold might be in jeopardy. Vonn had another scary run during the World Cup downhill in Val d'Isere, clutching her knee in pain after losing her balance and missing a gate on Saturday. But shortly afterward, she said no new damage had been done to the surgically repaired knee and her plans for the Sochi Olympics were still intact. "I didn't hurt myself more than I'm already hurt," said Vonn, the reigning Olympic downhill champion. "It was a small compression, and it was fully loaded on the right ski and my knee just completely gave out. I tried to pressure the ski again and it gave out again. I had no chance of making that gate, unfortunately." With boyfriend Tiger Woods watching from the bottom of the slope, Vonn skied out after her left ski came up in the air, putting all her weight on the troublesome right leg. The American was clearly distressed after pulling up and l ...
ASPEN, Colo. -- Austrias Kathrin Zettel held off teammate and training partner Marlies Schild to win a World Cup slalom Sunday, skiing a blazing second run on a course on which she is much at home. Zettel finished in a combined time of one minute, 42.46 seconds to edge Schild by 0.67 seconds. Tina Maze of Slovenia was third in a race Lindsey Vonn skipped as she recovers from an intestinal illness. Schild was seeking her 34th career slalom win, which would match the discipline record of Swiss great Vreni Schneider. She looked on her way, too, after a swift second run through a challenging course. But Schild was eclipsed by Zettel, the last skier of the afternoon. "She was pretty tough to beat," Schild said. Theres something about the Aspen hill that suits Zettel. She also finished second in the giant slalom the day before, making it a highly productive weekend. She now has eight career podium finishes at this venue. "I dont even know what to say," said Zettel, who won her first slalom race since 2010. "Asp ...
While Lindsey Vonn is finding her inner zen, we are still waiting for Tina Maze to join us for a paddle ;-)
On the Blickbild's Blogspot page we can see the words that people use on Google to find our articles. It seems like this week one of the most popular search phrases is, "Lindsey Vonn *** " If you do a Google search with that phrase, our story about Tiger cheating on Lindsey is the very first one. The same goes for the phrase, "Tina Maze *** affair." Huh? Maybe our readers just like love and romance because the Blickbild's interview with Aksel and Julia is on Google when you type, "Aksel Lund Svindal and Julia Mancuso." The Aksel and Julia interview has been our most viewed story by far.
4th place today! My slalom is almost there, now I just need to make it down with no mistakes! Congrats to Tina Maze, she clinched the overall today
American skiing superstar is in everyone's thoughts after yesterday's terrible crash. All involved in the world of alpine skiing, and us here at Redbull.com, are sending their best wishes to Lindsey Vonn right now after the American’s harrowing crash at the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Schladming, Austria, yesterday. Just a few weeks after returning to the sport, the 28-year-old world-beater crashed into a safety gate during the women’s Super-G event on Tuesday. After receiving treatment on the slopes Lindsey was eventually airlifted to hospital where it was confirmed she had suffered a torn ACL and MCL in her right knee. The multiple world champion was trailing race-leader and eventual winner Tina Maze when she fell. The injury means Lindsey is now out of action for the rest of the 2012/13 season. It is expected that Lindsey will be back to full fitness in time for the 2013/14 World Cup season – and to defend her Olympic gold at Sochi 2014. We’ll keep you updated with any new development ...
Report St.Anton (AUT) - New fine snow as final layer, air humidity around 75% and temperature of the snow around -12°C all along the slope. Our decision was to use HP3 VIOLET as racing wax and FP4 POWDER MED 841S4 + FP4 SPRAY MED 851S together as top racing finish and the results of Tina Maze and Lindsey Vonn talk good for us!
Lindsey Kildow Vonn wins again a World Cup downhill after Lake Louise, beating Slovenian Tina Maze. For her eighty days of pain and suffering, she needed a break to recover some energy and strength. On Olympia delle Tofane course, the American was able to get back the right determination and confidence she needed to beat the Slovenian (who made a couple of slight errors) by nearly a half-second. The super-G is scheduled for tomorrow, start time of the first racer at 11.45, weather permitting, because more snow coming. Tina Maze achieved today with the second place her best result of the season in downhill, confirming her leadership in the overall World Cup standing (with 1414 points, 744 for Maria Riesch). Thanks to her 58th career World Cup victory in Cortina, Lindsey Vonn is getting closer and closer to beat Moser-Proell’s all-time record of World Cup wins in total. On the third place of the podium, surprisingly, another American, Leanne Smith, who confirmed the success of the strong U.S. speed team w ...
Viktoria Rebensburg, giant slalom Olympic champion in Vancouver 2010, won today’s Super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo, taking away the opportunity for Lindsey Vonn to collect her fifth straight victory on the Olympia delle Tofane course. It started to snow last night on the Ampezzo valley and it hasn’t stopped all day. The organizers had to work really hard to start the race at 11.45 am this morning. The departure had to be lowered at Duca d’Aosta instead of Pomedes as planned, but under a heavy snowfall and with very poor visibility the race was confirmed as scheduled. Rebensburg was second in the giant slalom in Cortina in 2010. The 23 years old skier from German took certainly advantage of her bib number today, but even more the Austrian Nicole Schmidhofer (bib number two) who after winning in 2007 two medals at the Junior Alpine World Championships in Altenmarkt ended up in the Austrian second team. She was surprisingly second today, beating Tina Maze with one hundredth of a second. Earning 60 poin ...
CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (AFP) – (AFP) – American downhill queen Lindsey Vonn dominated overall World Cup leader Tina Maze to claim her 58th win in the series and first win of 2013 here on Saturday.
Lindsey Vonn showed she's back in form Saturday, winning a World Cup downhill for her first victory in more than five weeks. The four-time overall World Cup champion, who recently took three weeks off to regain her strength following an intestinal problem, clocked 1 minute, 38.25 seconds down the Olympia delle Tofane course. Current overall leader Tina Maze of Slovenia finished second, 0.43 seconds behind, and Vonn's American teammate Leanne Smith was third, 0.89 back. It was Vonn's seventh win in Cortina and the 58th of her career, moving her within four of the all-time record held by Austrian great Annemarie Moser-Proell. Vonn's last win was a super-G in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Dec. 8. Racing continues in Cortina with a super-G Sunday.
