Zuma 'impressed' by Venda women bowing down to him President Jacob Zuma has come under fire for comments he made about Venda women. On Friday, the Mercury reported that President Jacob Zuma came under fire for making comments about Venda women that led to a gesture of "undermining their rights". Talking to hundreds of people in Impendle in the Midlands earlier this week, Zuma addressed the concept of respect, saying people don't respect each other anymore. The paper reported that Zuma was emphasising young women and men must exercise self-respect and respect for others. "When I was in Venda recently I was so impressed to see how people there express respect for other people," he reportedly said. "A woman would clap her hands and even lie down to show respect … I was so impressed. If I was not already married to my wives I would go to Venda to look for a woman." Phumla Ndende, a representative from an Eastern Cape-based support centre criticised the president, saying: "If you express respect in such a wa ...
The security upgrades to the private homes of former presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki cost significantly less than the upgrades to President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead. As questions mount about the R238 million state splurge on Nkandla, it has emerged that the public works department budgeted R28.2 million for security upgrades to Mandela’s Qunu home in the Eastern Cape. Mbeki received a R3.5 million security upgrade to his private house when he left office. Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has confirmed that she is investigating the state’s spend on Nkandla. “Yes, an investigation is under way,” she said yesterday. Zuma is under fire after City Press revealed last week that the department of public works had spent more than R200 million of taxpayers’ money on upgrading his compound in KwaZulu-Natal. Madonsela’s probe comes at a time when Zuma is campaigning to be re-elected as ANC president in December. City Press has established that: » The upgrade of Nkandla was est ...
Qunu - A number of Cabinet ministers arrived at a purple-themed arena where the state funeral of former president Nelson Mandela is set to take place in Qunu in the Eastern Cape on Sunday. Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson, and Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor were among the earliest arrivals at the dome-shaped venue which had been specially constructed for the event. Smartly-dressed guests took their seats on purple chairs in front of a stage lined with two rows of candles and a portrait of Mandela. Black seats have been designated for international delegates and special guests. Western Cape premier Helen Zille said she had not been to Qunu before. “It looks very beautiful,” she said. Both Zille, and Democratic Alliance Parliamentary Leader Lindiwe Mazibuko, said it was an honour to be at the funeral. “It's an amazing moment. It's a privilege to be here alongside his family,” said Mazibuko. Gues ...
Hailing from the heart of rural Eastern Cape, Siviwe Gwarube is a Rhodes University graduate in Law, Politics and Philosophy. After 2 minutes of soul searching she decided to give a career in political communication a bash. She now is the DA Parliamentary Leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko's spokesperson.When...
I know little about Dr Mamphela Ramphele. At first, I thought she is a Xhosa from Eastern Cape but she is a Pedi from Limpopo. She is a force to change but she came too late when I already gave up on politics. She is good in articulating issues in an explicit manner. She inspires confidence but just like Chappies, her sweetness will expired after 2014 Elections. I have seen UDM and COPE entering South African politics like house in fire but their fire was easily extinguished after their first general elections. Now the attention is on Dr Mamphela Ramphele as voice of voiceles. I strongly believe that she is a serious treat to DA than ANC. She will divide the votes of opposition parties than ANC votes and even DA Lindiwe Mazibuko already raised the same fear of losing more votes after Dr Mamphele launched a party political platform Let me leave politics to politicians.
Protest gate-crashers label DA's Lindiwe Mazibuko a 'coconut' Sapa, The Times, 10 November, 2012 DA Parliamentary Leader Lindiwe Mazibuko was jeered and labelled a 'coconut' as unionists and teachers gate-crashed a protest march by the party on Friday demanding better education in the Eastern Cape. The dramatic scenes unfolded outside the offices of the provincial education department in Zwelitsha near Bhisho, where the Democratic Alliance's "peaceful" march soon erupted into chaos, the Weekend Post reported. Sadtu and Nehawu supporters wielded sticks and heckled Mazibuko and a group of 500 of her supporters. About 200 protesters loudly taunted Mazibuko while she addressed her followers, singing "amabulu amnyama" (rich blacks or coconuts). "It is like calling black members coconuts, only more derogatory," said DA Eastern Cape provincial leader Athol Trollip. The protesters refused to give reasons for their protest and began chanting "no interviews". However, one woman, wearing a red Nehawu T-shirt, shou ...
SA has lost confidence in Zuma – Opposition 08 November 2012 Joint press statement by ACDP, AZAPO, COPE, DA, FF+, IFP, UCDP and UDM: South Africa has lost confidence in President Jacob Zuma The South African people are bearing witness to the emergence of a government and a country different to that envisaged by President Nelson Mandela and those who fought to liberate South Africa from oppression and ushered in a new democratic order in 1994. The Marikana tragedy; the appalling ‘Nkandlagate' scandal; the failure by the government to deliver textbooks and workbooks to school children in Limpopo and the Eastern Cape; the downgrading of South Africa's credit rating by two major ratings agencies; the mounting disrespect for our Constitution and judiciary; the growing number of our citizens who must face the indignity of unemployment; and the uncontrollable and rising tide of corruption in the public service - all of these collectively point to the reality that ours is a country which lacks decisive leader ...
Lindiwe Mazibuko shared the following link and had this to say about it: I lodged a complaint to the HRC on behalf of the tens of thousands of learners in the Eastern Cape who have to walk long distances to get to school. The severity of this problem cannot be overstated. Some children, as young as 7 years old, must walk close to the distance of the comrade’s marathon on a weekly basis, just to get to and from sc...
I would suggest to Lindiwe Mazibuko to familiarise herself with the education system/structures in the Eastern Cape before "thinking with her mouth" as per Irvin Jim
Lindiwe Mazibuko your spokesperson of Democratic Alliance must first reconcile hellen zille and the so-called Eastern Cape "Educational Refugees" before reconciling the two models in the race row. Considering what WHITES did to BLACKS in this land, they (WHITES) must understand that the fact that they are still living here in relative peace, is a privilege accorded to them by BLACKS and that they must not abuse such privilege, but rather be thankful. That skinny b*** and many other insolent whites are abusing this privilege.
The DA in the Eastern Cape will today be pressing charges against the official who attempted to run Lindiwe Mazibuko over on Friday
