The dramedy The Big Chill was a hit back in 1983, especially among baby boomers. The film featured an all-star cast including Tom Berenger, Glenn Close, William Hurt, and Kevin Kline. It also sported a hit soundtrack with lots of late '60s popular music. The movie is about college friends reuniting after their mutual friend commits suicide. Kevin Costner was the dead friend Alex. He shot several scenes, all of which were cut from the final film. Only photos of his character remain in the movie.Apparently footage including Costner exists but has never been released by director Lawrence Kasdan. The filmmaker has also refused to create a director's cut of the movie.
QUICK Star Wars HISTORY LESSON. George Lucas wrote the first Star Wars: Episode 4: A New Hope (1977) but many people don't know that Lawrence Kasdan helped write Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Episode 6: Return of the Jedi (1983). Fans regard Episode 5 as the best Star Wars film. But "Empire" would not have become what it is without Kasdan. He helped Lucas add a lot to the Star Wars mythology that didn't exist in the original. Here is a short list of the major story contributions which Lucas and Kasdan created for Episode 5. 1.) Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father. Vader was not the father in the first film (In Episode 4, ObiWan clearly says that Vader killed Aniken Skywalker, this line of dialogue needed to be explained away in Episode 6 because fans complained about the continuity not matching). The father/son revelation in "Empire" not only added to the conflict between the two characters, it also introduced the idea that The Dark Side could turn a Jedi evil. This is the first movie w ...

Empire Strikes Back review: Where do I start? My favorite film of all time and the sole reason I got interested in film. Well after the game changing success of New Hope we got Empire Strikes Back which saw Irvin Kershner direct and Lawrence Kasdan write the script. Takes place a few months after New Hope as most of the Rebel Alliance hides in the Hoth system. With a better writer doing the script and a better director directing the film, there is a very noticeable difference. Better performances in this film then New Hope. More complex story with some awesome dialogue. But the thing that makes Star Wars excellent is in the middle of all this galaxy wide conflict you have great characters. Luke struggles in this film to complete his training as a Jedi Knight while he worries about the fate of his friends at Bespin. The one character though that holds the film together and is the heart of the film is the badass known as Han Solo. What makes him great is in the middle of all this crap going on you have an a ...
This expert Star Wars podcast has so far confused Lawrence Kasdan for Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, and Max Von Sydow.
Happy thought for the day: Today Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill read dialogue as Han, Luke, & Leia written by Lawrence Kasdan
the "Max von Sydow" may or may not be Anthony Daniels. And the "Not Anthony Daniels" is Lawrence Kasdan. Just an update
I finally watched "Silverado" (1985), on my long list of classic westerns that I needed to see. Quite a few famous faces and a solid story from Kasdan. I like the reversal of many Western tropes: The guy named "Mal" is probably the best among the heroes, the unlikely hero wears a black hat (that he has to get back by killing someone, natch) and the villain, a (slightly dirty) white one. Hangs together well. Sci-fi tie: This movie was from Lawrence Kasdan, who, of course, masterminded "The Empire Strikes Back." The musician, Bruce Broughton, also wrote the music for the "Buck Rogers" TV series (1981). Set designer Richard McKenzie worked on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and on "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier"!
Various Star Wars Rumors Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee Williams, and Anthony Daniels are rumored to return for Episode VII which will take place 30 years past Return of the Jedi. The focus will not be on the Solo children, which is what the first screenwriter wanted, but instead follow the Skywalker line which is what J.J. Abrams envisioned. J.J. Abrams is writing the script along with Lawrence Kasdan. It is also rumored that Adam Driver will play the role of a new villian. Principle photography will begin shooting in May 2014 at Pinewood Studios in London. It is also rumored that Gary Oldman and Benedict Cumberbatch could play villans. Also, Zac Effron is said to have met with Lucasfilm and possibly may have signed on. Jesse Plemons is rumored to have met the J.J. Abrams. Dame Judy Dench was discussed as a possible to play Mon Motha. Will be shot on film and not IMAX because J.J. Abrams thinks the IMAX cameras are too loud and unreliable. Release date December 18th, 2015! Can you t ...
BODY HEAT (Lawrence Kasdan, 1981). In the revival of the noir cycle who affected America in the Seventies and the Eighties, Body Heat represents one of the many post-modern noirs released, with different results, in those years ("Harper"; "Point Blank"; "Taxi Driver"; "Chinatown"; "Blade Runner" among them). It is one of those nostalgia-movies who took inspiration by the classic Film Noir (chiefly "Out of the Past" and "Double Indemnity" in the case) but the ambitious process of reliving again an entire cinematic era and an out-of-date historical and cultural mood (and not simply remaking a movie) brought it to became only an anacronistic "pastiche". Speaking of which I want here to recollect the definition of the term given by Frederic Jameson: "Pastiche is, like parody, the imitation of a peculiar mask, speech in a dead language, but it is a neutral practice of such mimicry, without any of parody's ulterior motives, amputated of the satiric impulse" (Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Modernism ...

Best. Movie. Ever. While the snow swirled lazily this afternoon, I watched, "Grand Canyon," (Lawrence Kasdan, 1991) for the bajillionth time. I never tire of this masterpiece. What a dramatic human metaphor for the Unified Field Theory. I love this movie. A story that challenges each of us to grow. When was the last time that happened?
Star Wars Episode VII: The Facts, The Rumours, The Mysteries 1. The Release Date Star Wars Episode VII is due for release on December 18, 2015. It’s like an early Christmas present for your eyes. 2. Wow. Lawrence Kasdan is now co-writing the new Star Wars. Best news. Now if they only get a decent director…
I check the Sight & Sound poll far too often, but my question is this: Who did Lawrence Kasdan *** off to have Grand Canyon as top credit?
'Star Wars: Episode VII' Attached: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher Status: Perhaps the most long-awaited sequel in history, and one we were told over and over would never happen, Lucasfilm was sold to Disney late last year to the tune of $4 billion with the promise of strip-mining the "Star Wars" legacy, a key selling point for the studio. Indeed, the plan is to churn out a new trilogy and at least three solo films (literally: one will be about Han Solo) over the course of six years. Considering fans have had decade-long breaks between trilogies, that's a serious feast or famine scenario. Michael Arndt ("Toy Story 3") is scripting this follow-up to "Return of the Jedi" with the aid of OT script vet Lawrence Kasdan, and director J.J. Abrams will boldly go where he's already gone before in that other "Star" franchise. Make no mistake — this is the big one, folks. | Read More Release Date/Year: Summer 2015

River Phoenix isn't crop-headed of course. And he doesn't wear bermudas. He arrived at my hotel in his mother's car wearing a jade green Gap sweat-shirt, navy blue long johns, and tennis shoes.
