Fulham v Sheffield Utd February 3, 2014 International, International, International, International Fulham will look to make the most of their second chance when they take on Sheffield United in an FA Cup fourth-round replay on Tuesday. The Cottagers managed to salvage a draw at Bramall Lane against the 10 men of United, and will be desperate to advance at the expense of their League One opponents. Rene Meulensteen’s side head into the clash in terrible form, however, having scored just once in their last four outings, all of which have ended in either a draw or defeat. The former Manchester United assistant coach made a number of moves in the January transfer window, bringing in Konstantinos Mitroglou, Larnell Cole, Lewis Holtby, Ryan Tunnicliffe, William Kvist and John Heitinga, although none of the new arrivals are eligible for the replay as they were not registered with the club before the original tie. John Arne Riise (hamstring), Fernando Amorebieta (knee) and Matthew Briggs (hernia) are doubtful a ...

Fulham have now lost five of their past six league matches, conceding 18 goals. Saints, meanwhile, are four games unbeaten in the league and strengthened their grip on ninth place. But the problems continue to pile up for Cottagers head coach Rene Meulensteen after a busy deadline day failed to have the desired impact. The Dutchman made four changes from the midweek defeat at Swansea, with January arrivals William Kvist and Lewis Holtby both handed debuts. Their fellow new recruits Konstantinos Mitroglou, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Larnell Cole and Johnny Heitinga were not in the 18-man squad. Victor Wanyama and Lambert both returned for the Saints, who found themselves on the back foot in the opening exchanges. Scott Parker's attempted chip was comfortably saved by Artur Boruc before Holtby, signed on loan from Tottenham, made his first contribution with a deep corner which Dan Burn headed just over the crossbar. Yet Southampton grew in confidence and Cottagers goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was tested for the f ...

Larnell Cole has joined Bournemouth for 3 months. Will be good experience for him. Also Wilfried Zaha has been told to fight for his place after Nottingham Forest had an attempted loan bid turned down for him. Moyes has told Zaha he doesn't think he is ready for the PL just yet but rejected a move to the Championship for him. Moyes has been helping Zaha on certain aspects of his game, to help him mature. In pre-season, Zaha did look raw and too bull-headed so in a way I understand Moyes way of thinking. After all, Moyes sees him each day in training, fans do not so it easy for people to say "why not pick him and him". We aren't the ones working with them and know how they are progressing. - JL

Henriquez relishing Red Devils reunion As he swelters in the searing Antalya sunshine, training sessions on Manchester United’s wind and rain-swept Carrington pitches seem a world away for Angelo Henriquez. “I actually got to like England’s weather,” he told FIFA.com, laughing. “I’m finding this heat hard to get used to.” Yet as distant as they might seem, it is to those wet and windy mornings in England’s north-west that the Chile forward will be casting his mind back to as he prepares to face England. After all, he could find himself lining up against three United team-mates: Larnell Cole, Thomas Thorpe and, crucially, goalkeeper Samuel Johnstone. The England No1 was one of the Three Lions’ most impressive performers in their 2-2 draw with Iraq and, having faced him often in training, Henriquez is aware that he is facing the most adept of adversaries. “I know Sam very well and he is a very, very good keeper,” he said. “If I am going through against him, it will be an interesting ...
ManUtd.com reports on the opening group matches for five Manchester United players taking part in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey. The players are Sam Johnstone, Larnell Cole, Tom Thorpe (all England), Guillermo Varela (Uruguay) and Angelo Henriquez (Chile).
Young Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone believes his England team-mates can be “a match for anyone” at this month’s Under-20 World Cup in Turkey. The tournament kicks off on Friday 21 June and Johnstone is joined in the England squad by fellow Reds Tom Thorpe and Larnell Cole. New signing Guillermo Varela and striker Angelo Henriquez will also line up for Uruguay and Chile respectively. England’s U-21 team suffered the ignominy of finishing bottom of their group at the current European Championship following losses to Italy, Norway and Israel. Stuart Pearce’s side scored just one goal in those three games, but Johnstone is confident the U-20s can go one better. His team, managed by Peter Taylor, will face Chile, Egypt and Iraq in Group E, with the young Three Lions ‘ first encounter against Iraq on Sunday 23 June (19:00 BST). “It’s going to be a tough task in the group,” said Johnstone, who arrived in Turkey with the England team on Thursday. “When you look at the group, it’ ...
Manchester United’s first team and Under-21s boast three strikes apiece on our shortlist for the May Goal of the Month award. Rio Ferdinand’s late winner against Swansea – his first goal since 2008 – is in contention, as are Shinji Kagawa and Alexander Büttner’s efforts in the 5-5 draw at West Brom. Two Larnell Cole goals are nominated: his hat-trick strike in the Reserves’ league semi-final victory over Liverpool and his late winner in the final against Tottenham. And Marnick Vermijl’s goal in the same game against Spurs, which kick-started a 3-2 comeback win for Warren Joyce’s youngsters at Old Trafford, completes the six-goal selection.

Result: Manchester United pip Tottenham Hotspur to Under-21 title Man Utd have claimed the inaugural Barclays Under-21 Premier League title after coming from behind to edge Tottenham Hotspur in a 3-2 success last night. A number of players with first-team experience featured for both sides, including Tom Carroll, Ben Amos, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Harry Kane. Spurs had raced into a two-goal lead at Old Trafford, courtesy of impressive strikes from Jonathan Obika and Alex Pritchard. United rallied to reduce the deficit through Belgian youngster Marnick Vermijl, before Larnell Cole equalised with a composed finish from close range. Cole then completed the turnaround to score a winner two minutes from time as United secured a late victory in the reserve showpiece.

LikE FaTHer LikE SoN Manchester United’s U21s lift Barclays Premier League trophy Manchester United have tonight won the U21s Barclays Premier League after a thrilling 3-2 comeback against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. After going into half time 2-0 down, Warren Joyce’s side came out in the second half and put in a brilliant display including a double from Larnell Cole including a dramatic winner late on. It means that the last game of the Ferguson era is his U21s winning the title with a dramatic comeback at Old Trafford. How fitting. The U21s have done incredibly well to win the title given that they have not had a recognised striker since January and Adnan Januzaj put in a a fantastic performance isolated up top despite it not being his natural position. It means that David Moyes will walk into a Manchester United with the champions of the Premier League, champions of the U21s Premier League and the fourth best U18s team in the country. UNITED U21S 3-2 SPURS. Our Under-21s were denied a clean sweep in the Barclays U21 Premier League after Manchester United produced a stirring comeback to win the play-off final at Old Trafford on Monday night. The lads produced the form that took them to both titles in the first two phases of the competition in a dominant performance in the first half. Jon Obika and Alex Pritchard both registered and at 2-0, there only looked one outcome. But somehow the home team turned it around in the second half. Alarm bells started to ring when Marnick Vermijl made it 2-1 on 59 minutes and a double from Larnell Cole after 74 and 88 minutes completed the turn around. Naturally devastated after the final whistle, the players shouldn't let the result of the final overshadow what has been a fantastic campaign full of free-flowing football that reaped 17 wins from 28 matches and a goal tally of 82. There was one change to last week's semi-final win against Everton as Harry Kane came in for Kevin Stewart. Apart from a coup ...

Manchester United moved up to second place in the Elite Group after overcoming West Ham United 2-0 in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League. Warren Joyce's charges maintained their push for a semi-final place of the competition as midfielder Nick Powell scored twice at either end of the match to seal three points for the hosts against the side they held to a goalless draw at the Boleyn Ground six days earlier. The home side got off to the perfect start after five minutes at Moss Lane when Larnell Cole played Marnick Vermijl through on the right and the full-back cut inside to shoot with his left foot. Although goalkeeper Raphael Siegel parried his effort out, Powell was on hand to convert the rebound. The visitors soon responded through the lively Paul McCallum with Dan Potts firing narrowly over. At the other end the impressive Powell sent a shot just wide after a neat one-two with Jesse Lingard and was unable to get his head to an accurate ball by Tom Thorpe on the stroke of half-time. After the break We ...

A flat first half saw United fail to trouble Jak Alnwick in the home goal while the Magpies made a promising start.
