Groundlings 40th Anniversary Celebration was stellar! It was fun bringing my young 14 yr. old cousin, who's mother grew up at the Groundling theater watching me and my aunt, her mom, onstage! I said to my little cousin, who is taller than me and looks like she's 20, is this your first grown up party? She said it's my first party, period! And she's posing for pictures with, Kathy Griffin, and Cheryl Hines, and Laraine Newman, and Mindy Sterling, and Cassandra Peterson, and Edie McClurg, and Flo the Progressive gal, and the Academy Award winning Groundling, Jim Rash! Wow! It was so fun to see all the different decades of Groundlings together in one place! Like a big family picnic! There will be lots of pictures, from Getty images, I'll have to get the link. What a great evening, what a legacy we have created!

It still freaks me out how much Vanessa Bayer resembles Laraine Newman.
SNL Christmas reminds me how timeless and classic the original cast was. The original SNL cast’s take on “Winter Wonderland” is one of my favorite Christmas recordings ever. It’s from the first season of Saturday Night Live; Candice Bergen is hosting, and you can see her singing along with Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, and Laraine Newman. The underrated Garrett Morris delivers the powerful lead vocal, and there’s something magical about the moment when the boys — Chevy, Aykroyd, Belushi — come in for support.
cont... Laraine Newman, Kreayshawn, Garret Dillahunt, Gina Gershon...maybe this is too many
Imagine what Laraine Newman, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, Chevy Chase could do with

Hello friends! If you are in the LA area tomorrow, Sunday, night, you might want to check out my dear friends Tracy Newman and Michael McNevin at the Coffee Gallery Backstage. It's bound to be a great show!- Pen Tracy Newman: In the early 70s, she joined an improv class taught by Gary Austin, which soon became The Groundlings. Tracy is a founding member, and besides performing, she taught and directed. Her sister, Laraine Newman was the first Groundling to be discovered there by Lorne Michaels for Saturday Night Live. Some other Groundling alumni include: Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Paul “Pee Wee Herman” Reubens and Kathy Griffin. It was at the Groundlings that Tracy met her future TV writing partner, Jonathan Stark. Their first staff job was on “Cheers,” followed by “Bob”(Bob Newhart), “The Nanny,” “Ellen”, “The Drew Carey Show” and the legendary “Hiller and Diller” (Richard Lewis and Kevin Nealon.) Here's what I lay awake thinking about at 5:00 am when I couldn't fall back to sleep. I thought maybe the exercise would restore the "z"s. John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd, Garrett Morris, Bill Murray, Al Franken, Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, Billy Crystal, Martin Short, Dennis Miller, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nealon, Mike Meyers, Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade. . . . OK, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, Christine Ebersole, Nora Dunn, Julia Sweeny, Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson . . .That's all I got; so then I re-organize them alphabetically, . . .then "dead" vs "alive," then organize by mode of death: "Dead by natural causes," "death by drug overdose," "death by murder," and "not really dead, but no one knows them any more. . . " I did not return to sleep.

Laraine Newman I think. I may be wrong.
October 11, 1975 Saturday Night Live On this date in 1975, Saturday Night Live had its debut as a new comedy show for NBC. The cast showcased unknown talents that included Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner. The first show featured George Carlin as the host with Andy Kaufman, Janis Ian and Billy Preston as guests.
With Emo Phillips as Toto and backed by the likes of Laraine Newman, Thomas Chan, Gary Stockdale, and Frank Conniff (TV's Frank!) this should be interesting.
Laraine Newman c. '88 looks smoking as a red head Kate Bush on Monsters "Rouse Him Not" but the story & midi violins are killing me
From the comic genius that is Mr. Frank Conniff, here's the first episode of his new podcast, Podhouse 90, "The Wonderful Pundits of Oz" starring Dana Gould, Dave "Gruber" Allen, Elvis Weinstein, David Higgins, Laraine Newman, Emo Phillips, and Mr. Conniff himself.
As you know, Saturday Night Live is my favorite show and I have seen most of them since the beginning. With the 38th season coming up, I want to go back and tell you some of my favorite characters over the years, the ones I find amusing and falling off the floor in laughter. Not only from cast members, but from guests as well. Ones like Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, John Goodman and Jerry Seinfeld to name a few. This is going back from 1975 to the present. Some are impersonations and memorable characters in sketches. Starting with my favorite, John Belushi - Jake Blues, Joe Cocker, his Little Chocolate Donuts commercial, Gilda Radner - Roseanne Rosadanna, Dan Aykroyd - Elwood Blues and Julia Child, Jane Curtin - Joan Face, Chevy Chase - Gerald Ford, Laraine Newman - Valley girl type, Al Franken - Stewart Smalley, Paul Shaffer - Don Kirshner, Steve Martin - Performing the King Tut Song, Eddie Muphy - Gumy and Buckwheat, Joe Piscopo - Curly from the Three Stooges, Mary Gross - Alfalfa, Tim Kazurinsky - Dr. Ja ...

The first one. It's only the third episode of this I've heard (after a Fred Savage one and one with Casey Wilson and Laraine Newman)
"Rock & roll will never die!" - This afternoon in the 102 degree heat I watched Floyd Mutrux's AMERICAN HOT WAX (1978). I love Mutrux's druggy DUSTY AND SWEETS McGEE (1971) and ALOHA BOBBY AND ROSE (1975). I think I may have seen AHW on HBO as a kid, but no more recently than not long after it was released. I don't believe it ever received a VHS release and it's certainly never been released to disc due to, surely, the nightmare of music rights issues. It's a shame, as the film is a hepped-up joy. It's wall-to-wall music and the thrill of being part of something that was new and vital and bursting with promise (though with the dark undercurrents of payola, exploitation of the performers by shyster management, and the square authorities who didn't like white and black youths mixing and dancing to that "jungle music"). Twenty years after the events depicted, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, and Screaming Jay Hawkins were still young enough to play their selves at the time the film was set. Laraine Newman of th ...
