Wouldn't be surprised if selectors name Lahiru Thirimanne as an opening batsmen in squad. Tbh, wouldn't mind given the circumstances.

Sri Lanka v South Africa, 2nd ODI, Pallekele Unchanged Sri Lanka choose to bat The Report by Andrew Fidel Fernando July 9, 2014 Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bat in the second ODI in Pallekele on a surface that appeared to be suited to run-making. That the Pallekele pitch has sometimes been livelier in the evening may also have swayed Mathews' decision. Mathews had suggested Thisara Perera could come into the side if the surface looked particularly seam-friendly, but Sri Lanka chose to keep Ashan Priyanjan in an unchanged XI. South Africa also made no changes to their winning XI from Sunday. A victory at Pallekele would give them their first-ever ODI series victory in the country, and only their fourth win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Low cloud shrouded the hills around Pallekele Stadium, but rain is expected to hold off for the duration of the match. Happened a few hours back in Super 4's Twenty20 Tournament (Domestic T20 Cup in Sri Lanka) Udrata Rulers (led by Lahiru Thirimanne) required 8 runs to win in the final over with 5 wickets left and the captain of Southern Express (Lasith Malinga) gave the ball to Sachith Pathirana. This is how the over went: wd W W 1 W 1 W 4 wickets in the over (1 run out) and Lasiyh Malinga's Southern Express won by 4 runs (a match they could have easily lost).

Sri Lanka beat England by six wickets to win ODI series Birmingham: Sri Lanka swept to a six-wicket victory over England at Edgbaston on Tuesday, sealing a 3-2 victory in their one-day international series. Lahiru Thirimanne scored an unbeaten 60 and Mahela Jayawardene added 53 as the tourists reached 222 for 4 in reply to England's 219 all out in the decider of the five-match series. Earlier, Sachithra Senanayake angered the crowd by controversially running out Jos Buttler. Senanayake ran him out at the non-striker's end as he backed up out of his ground, albeit after twice warning him in his previous over for pinching yards. England, who led twice in the series, were unchanged from the side which lost by seven runs at Lord's on Saturday. Alastair Cook scored his first ODI half-century, with 56 off 85 balls, before England were bowled out with nearly two overs to spare. In reply, the tourists held their nerve, courtesy of the decisive fourth-wicket stand of 98 by Jayawardene and Thirimanne to take victor ...
England v Sri Lanka, 5th ODI, Edgbaston SL claim series amid Senanayake controversy The Report by Alan Gardner June 3, 2014 Sri Lanka 222 for 4 (Thirimanne 60*, Jayawardene 53) beat England 219 (Cook 54, Malinga 3-50) by six wickets Anyone who thought that Sachithra Senanayake being reported to the ICC for a suspect bowling action might be a cue for Sri Lanka to excuse him from duty, and the added attention it would bring, did not reckon with the player himself. Figures of 1 for 36, including the wicket of England's top-scorer, Alastair Cook, were just one thread of Sri Lanka's series-clinching six-wicket win but, by running out Jos Buttler while the batsman was backing up, Senanayake ensured that the narrative would be wound around him. Mahela Jayawardene and Lahiru Thirimanne scored half-centuries as Sri Lanka kept cool in an atmosphere that was simultaneously heated and damp. England's bowlers, in particular James Tredwell and James Anderson, managed to ratchet up the asking rate but some business-like ...

Five-star Malinga stuns Pakistan in Asia Cup opener Tue, Feb 25, 2014 Sling-arm fast bowler Lasith Malinga grabbed five wickets in a devastating final spell to lead Sri Lanka to a 12-run win over defending champions Pakistan in the opening match of the Asia Cup in Fatullah on Tuesday. Pakistan, chasing Sri Lanka's competitive 296-6, seemed to be cruising at 242-4 in the 43rd over following a fifth-wicket stand of 121 between skipper Misbah-ul- Haq and Umar Akmal. But Malinga turned the tables, finishing with five for 52, as Pakistan lost their last six batsmen for 42 runs to be bowled out for 284 in the penultimate over of the day-night match. Akmal hit 74 off 72 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes, and Misbah made 73, but Pakistan were unable to apply the finishing touches as pressure mounted on the lower order batsmen. Sri Lanka's innings revolved around opener Lahiru Thirimanne's 102 off 110, his second one-day hundred, and useful contributions from Kumar Sangakkara (67) and skipper Angelo Math ...

ASIA CUP 2014 A brittle lower order for Pakistan and some gritty individual performances from Lahiru Thirimanne (102 runs), Kumar Sangakkara (67 runs), Angelo Mathews (55* runs) and Lasith Malinga (5-52) sealed a narrow 12 run victory for the Lankans in the 1st game played in Fatullah. 51.76% of the team score (284 runs) were scored by Misbah (73 runs) and Umer Akmal (74 runs) while the rest couldn't manage to cross the 30 run mark. In-spite of having a far more experienced batting line-up than the bowling unit of the opposition, Pakistani batsmen kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn't manage decent partnerships to level pressure over the Lankans. Apart from Malinga, Lakmal picked up 2 wickets whereas Senanayake, De Silva and Mathews picked up 1 wicket each. India will take on hosts Bangladesh tomorrow in Fatullah. Man of the Match: Lasith Malinga Date: 25th February 2014.
There is a chance Prasanna Jayawardene might not have even played his first Test in over a year had Lahiru Thirimanne been fit in Abu Dhabi, but following his unbeaten 67 in the second innings of that game, Angelo Mathews has outlined the importance of Prasanna's experience in the lower-middle order...

Umar Amin's luck is not on his side. We have to support our youngsters to become legends. What we Pakistanies do is when a youngster comes into the team if he flops 3-4 times we start saying he is this this and bla bla. Rohit Sharma suffered this. Even De Kock suffered it earlier. Even likes of Amla, Bell, Tendulkar, Sangakkara and Mahela suffered same. Jos Buttler, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Thirimanne and David Miller are struggling but are given full support from the management and the nation. Other nations give their heart out supporting a youngster and we say " ABBAY USKI PARCHI HY". If a youngster straight away in his first 2-3 matches produce results then he is next Inzi, Lara and Pointing if not then he is just rubbish. Youngsters are manufactured and then they produce results. So please stop this rubbish. Umar Amin is the future of Pakistan. If you can support Mr.Talent (Umar Akmal) without any significant performance in 4years than why not Umar Amin ? This is the dual-standard which has destroyed ...

Lankan Islanders Orange won their second game of the season on Sunday. A warm summers day welcomed both teams at Punchbowl Oval as the Lankan Islanders Orange team played against Phoenix. After losing the toss again the Islanders bowled first on a wicket that was not offering any assistance to the bowlers. After an early barrage of runs 0/58 after 11 overs, the Islanders were able to strike through the bowling of Dishan De Silva. Newcomer Chad came to the party to grab another 2 wickets to have the Phoenix at 3/83 at drinks. The 2nd session saw the Islanders take wickets at regular intervals with regular wicket hound DK grabbing a wicket and Hindol chipping in with 1. However it was recent new recruit and fellow Wadduwa local Oshanka Perera bowling darts similar to a bowling machine tying down the Phoenix batsmen during the death overs ending up with 4/11 of 5 overs. Kudos to Samira who bowled well in his 2nd spell limiting boundaries to a rarity. Not to mention some great fielding by Thraindu who ended . ...
SLC domestic tournament replaces Zimbabwe tour Sri Lanka Cricket has announced a triangular four-day tournament to begin on October 8, which effectively replaces the postponed Test tour of Zimbabwe. The tournament features Sri Lanka's Test side and its best first-class talent. Two of the matches will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club grounds and the third at the P Saravanamuttu Oval. The Board XI - which largely comprises Sri Lanka's Test players - will play a Sri Lanka A team and a Development team, with those teams also playing a match against each other. The Board XI is led by Test captain Angelo Mathews, while Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne - both of whom are also being groomed for leadership - will captain the other teams. Misbah-ul-Haq starred in Faisalabad Wolves' 10-run win over Kandurata Maroons in the second-last Qualifier match of the Champions League 2013 at Mohali on Friday. Both the teams came into the match knowing that the result held little consequence. There wasn’t much except pride that the two Asian teams were playing for. However, despite Mohali’s heat setting in and the temperature hovering around 35 degrees Celsius, the sparse crowd at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium witnessed an entertaining encounter. After being set 147 for victory, Kandurata’s chase didn’t begin easily. Samiullah Khan troubled opener Upal Tharanga with the early movement. After being squared time and again, Tharanga came back to hit three consecutive exquisite boundaries off the next over. However, Asad Ali, bowling the second over came back to scalp the wicket of Thilina Kandamby, who missed a flick walking across to the off-stump and was dismissed leg-before. In company of Kumar Sangakkara, Tharanga put Kandurata ...

Kandurata Maroons and Faisalabad Wolves are both out of the Champions League T20, having lost their first two games, and Lahiru Thirimanne decided to bowl in the dead rubber in Mohali
The news out is that Lahiru Thirimanne has won the toss and Kandurata Maroons will bowl first. It's a good track he feels and chasing is the way to go. Misbah-ul-Haq hopes his side does well.
Champions League T20, 5th Match, Qualifying Pool 1: The battle to avoid wooden spoon The match between the Faisalabad Wolves and Kandurata Maroons - both placed at the bottom in the points table - will be a fight to restore some pride. It will be an interesting battle of supremacy as both Wolves and Maroons will play out of their skin to avoid the wooden spoon in the inconsequential qualifier. Misbah-ul-Haq has done the bulk of the scoring for the Wolves but there has not been much support from other batsmen. What has hurt them the most is the lackluster performance of their bowlers, who failed to pose a threat to the rivals. The Maroons, on the other hand, have put up 150-plus score in both their matches but they failed to defend the score and they will need to add some teeth to their bowling. For Wolves, Saeed Ajmal will have to fire more, and Imran Khalid too can again be a surprise package for them. The match starts on September 20 at 4 pm IST / 3:30 pm PKT / 10:30 GMT on Star Sports / Euro Sports 2 . ...
Ryan ten Doeschate, who landed today in India, powered Otago Volts to a comfortable six-wicket win over Kandurata Maroons at the Punjab Cricket Association Ground, Mohali on Wednesday. The feature of ten Doeschate’s batting was his fierce hitting. The 32-ball 64 by ten Doeschate had measured hitting and calculated approach. He was *** bent on taking quick singles and looked for twos on at a stadium which is big. The deep fielders were always on their toes. Kaushal Lokuarachchi was smashed for three consecutive sixes by ten Doeschate that deterred the spirits of the Sri Lankan franchise. Otago opener Hamish Rutherford scored a quickfire 15-ball 20 but fell while trying to take on Suraj Randiv. After his wicket Neil Broom and Brendon McCullum played themselves in. McCullum was dismissed when he overbalanced after missing Dilhara Lokuhettige's delivery. He was stumped adroitly by Kumar Sangakkara. Broom was dismissed when he tried to break the shackles against Lokuhettige. He was dismissed for a 26-ball 2 ...
Kandurata Maroons v Otago Volts, CLT20 qualifier, Mohali Ten Doeschate stars as Otago make it two in two Otago Volts 157 for 4 (ten Doeschate 64, Lokuhettige 3-20) beat Kandurata Maroons 154 for 9 (Tharanga 76, Butler 3-21) by six wickets Ryan ten Doeschate's bruising 64 from 32 broke the back of a mediocre Kandurata Maroons total, and all but secured Otago Volts' place in the Champions League proper, while very nearly damning their opponents to the opposite fate. The match had been set up again by the discipline of the Otago's fast men, who kept Kandurata down to 154 for 9, despite the best efforts of Upul Tharanga, who hit 76 from 56. Ten Doeschate had not played the first match of the qualifiers, having not been released in time from Essex to come to India. The match was finely poised at 45 for 2, when he arrived at the crease, but within three overs, he had injected Volt's innings with the adrenaline that would not abate until the finish. Kandurata's spinners had prospered in the first ten overs, but ...
Dhawan scripts emphatic Hyderabad win Mohali, September 17 Shikhar Dhawan smashed 71 off 53 balls while Parthiv Patel cracked a 42-ball 52 as Hyderabad crushed Kandurata by eight wickets in their first qualifying game of the Champions League Twenty20. Set 169 to chase, Hyderabad's openers made mincemeat of Kandurata's bowling and flayed a strong Sri Lankan attack to all parts of the ground on what was a flat batting surface. Opting to field, Hyderabad rocked the Lankans early, with Ishant Sharma removing a rampaging Upul Tharanga and Darren Sammy accounting for Jayasuriya as the Maroons slipped to 33/2 after five overs. However, former skipper of the Sunrisers, Kumar Sangakkara who chose to play for his board instead of his T20-League side and Kandurata captain Lahiru Thirimanne added 89 for the third wicket to help the team cruise in the middle overs. While both powered on to aggressive half-centuries, it was the experienced Sangakkara who provided the much needed impetus to the innings in the closing st ...

Sunrisers Hyderabad comprehansively defeated Kandurata Maroons by eight wickets with nine balls to spare in the second qualifiers of the Champions League T20 at Mohali on Tuesday. Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 71 off 53 balls (11 boundaries) to script a fine run-chase. The highlight of the Sunrisers innings was the opening stand of 122 in 14.5 overs between Dhawan and Parthiv Patel. The Kandurata bowlers were totally clueless against the carnage of the two southpaws. The first set of powerplay overs yielded whopping 58 runs and the batsmen hardly seemed to have batted an eyelid. Parthiv took the Kandurata attack to the cleaners in the initial part of the innings. He showed positive intent cutting Lahiru Jayaratne for a boundary. He followed that up by hitting Jayaratne straight over his head for another boundary. Nuwan Kulasekara erred in his line bowling a tad short. Parthiv executed a flick that went past short fine-leg for a boundary and then punched the Sri Lankan bowler through extra-cover for anoth ...
Mohali: On a day of captains and a night of left-hand batsmen, Shikhar Dhawan made his captaincy debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad an occasion to remember at the venue where he announced his arrival in international cricket. ( Scorecard ) Some six months back, Dhawan made an awe- inspiring 187 against Australia in Mohali, an innings of such authority and class that it was hard to imagine that it was his Test debut. On Tuesday (September 17), also at PCA Stadium, he made well under half those number of runs but there was no mistaking the class or the authority. ( Match in pics) Dhawan's magnificent 71 was easily the innings of the night as it put to shade half- centuries from three other left-hand batsmen - Parthiv Patel, Kumar Sangakkara and Lahiru Thirimanne, the Kandurata Maroons skipper - in the second qualifying match of the Champions League Twenty20 2013. Set a stiff target of 169 to chase, Hyderabad fairly coasted to victory, by the comfortable margin of eight wickets, riding on the back of Dhawan's p ...
Awesome Batting Kumar Sangakkara n Lahiru Thirimanne the two half-centurions..cm'on "Kandurata"!!! cm'on Sri Lanka!!
Lahiru Thirimanne is really unfortunate.he played a good inning as Kumar Sangakkara but no one notice it...(cricinfo says "sangakkara lifts kadurata to 168")
Class talked in Mohali. Kumar Sangakkara as always a Treat to watch. Captaincy made big difference on Lahiru Thirimanne's batting.
Lahiru Thirimanne scores his second T20 fifty off 37 balls. The knock has included four boundaries and two sixes so far.

The PCA Stadium, Mohali will host the second of the double-headers on the first day of Champions League, 2013 where Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kandurata Maroons. Hyderabad was the one team which impressed one and all in its first season of IPL and were unlucky to miss out on the direct qualification. They have got a brilliant army of bowlers which is their strength, while their batting is a bit thin. Having said that, they still have names like Shikhar Dhawan, Cameron White, JP Duminy and Thisara Perera in the ranks who on a given day have the ability to win matches on their own. Kandurata Maroons are a very experienced side led by Lahiru Thirimanne. They are packed with seasoned campaigners like Kumar Sangakkara, Nuwan Kulasekara, Ajantha Mendis and Upul Tharanga and also have a few utility players, best suited for this format. Both teams contesting are the firm favourites to qualify for the main tournament and we hope for a cracking game between them.
Shikhar Dhawan has won the toss and Sunrisers Hyderabad will field first. He has taken dew into account and has looked at the chasing history at this venue. Lahiru Thirimanne is okay batting first.
2013 Champions League T20: Team Preview - Kandurata MaroonsThe second edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League was called off after all eight franchises failed to pay the tournament fee and the bank guarantees for player payments. In place of SLPL, Sri Lanka’s makeshift Twenty20 tournament was confirmed only two days before it began and was followed by the board’s public spat with Kumar Sangakkara, but the Sri Lankan Cricket Board believes they now send the strongest ever side to represent the country at the Champions League. MOHALI: Still trying to find its foothold in the cricketing landscape, the Champions League Twenty20 will enter its fourth season on Tuesday with the qualifying matches during which Pakistan's domestic champions Faisalabad Wolves are likely to hog the limelight. A league which was born out of the hugely successful IPL, CLT20 is gradually establishing its identity but it would take some time for it to truly find a connect with the fans. The event will kick off with Faisalabad Wolves, led by Pakistan's Terst skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, taking on New Zealand's Otago Volts in the first qualifier on Tuesday. This would be followed by a star-studded Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by Delhi-dasher Shikhar Dhawan, squaring off against Sri Lanka's Kandurata Maroons in the second qualifier at the PCA stadium. Barring Volts, the other three teams in the qualifiers come from the sub-continent, but none among the four feels that either has any big advantage in the event. The top two teams will advance to the main draw, which has ...
Faisalabad Wolves Faisalabad Wolves may not be the strongest team on paper in Pakistan but like any team from the country, they are high on surprise value. Only the second team from Pakistan to qualify for the Champions League, Faisalabad's participation was in the dark until recently before they were given a go-ahead for their visas to play in India. How they qualified : In-form captain Misbah-ul-Haq inspired a low-profile team to play upto their potential to win the national title by beating the powerful Sialkot Stallions, in the final of the Faysal Bank Super Eight T20 Cup. They were not the best team in the tournament but they put their performances together as a unit in the thriller against Lahore Lions in the semi-final. Strengths : Faisalabad is laden with youngsters and a couple of experienced international stalwarts in Misbah and Saeed Ajmal. Two seamers - Ehsan Adil and Asad Ali - are currently on a run to establish themselves for the national team with Asad understood to be the best man with th ...

Kumar Sangakkara crafted a superb, unbeaten 90 to lift Sri Lanka to a competitive 219 for the 8 batting 1st in the rain effected 5th match of the Tri-Nation Series against the West Indies at Queen's Park Oval. With the fixture continuously interrupted by inclement weather and forced into a reserve day following a heavy downpour on Sunday, the West Indies now face a challenging victory target of 230 based on Duckworth/Lewis Scoring Method in a match reduced to 41 overs per side. Sangakkara, who resumed on the additional day in partnership with fellow left hander Lahiru Thirimanne, extended the 4th wicket partnership to 69 when play eventually got under way 105 minutes late because of more rain, resulting in the match being reduced to 45 overs per side at that point. Thirimanne was bowled by Marlon Samuels for 23, after which another light shower drove the players off the field briefly, necessitating a 2nd reduction in a number of overs. All the while, Sangakkara stayed focused on the task at hand, playing ...
Rain forces match into reserve day (Submitted by Sports Journalist) PERSISTENT rain in Port-of-Spain meant play was called off for the day after only 19 overs were bowled during Sri Lanka's innings. The match will continue from the current state on Monday. West Indies, motivated by the appearance of the pitch, chose to field second time in a row, but unlike the previous match where they failed to make an early strike, this time, the bowlers found the right length on the pitch to topple Sri Lanka's top order while keeping their run-scoring in a leash. Kemar Roach was the wrecker-in-chief, bowling a menacing spell upfront and was it not for a long and patient vigil by Lahiru Thirimanne and Kumar Sangakkara, the situation could have been far worse for Sri Lanka. While Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic were slugging it out like it was a hard court on the grass at Wimbledon, the pitch at Queen's Park Oval was offering bounce and expected sideways movement to excite the fast bowlers. Roach's first ball was certain ...
Lankans drive out Aussies out of Champions Trophy with 20-run victory Tue, Jun 18, 2013 11:30 CST Melbourne, June 18 (ANI): Australia's trouble-plagued campaign of the ICC Champions Trophy had come to an end after they were defeated for 20 runs by Sri Lanka at The Oval on Monday. Sri Lanka, who needed a win to remain in the competition, rode on aggressive half-centuries from Mahela Jayawardene and Lahiru Thirimanne to score 253-8 after being sent in to bat, bowling out the Australians for 233 in 42.3 overs, Telegraph.com.au reports. According to the report, Sri Lanka and England finished level with four points each, but the hosts topped the group due to a superior net run-rate and will meet group B runners-up South Africa in Wednesday's semi-final at theOval. What utility does Lahiru Thirimanne bring at number 7 in the line-up? & then you leave out Thisara Perera! Lol, Sri Lanka! :p
2013 Champions Trophy: Meet the teams Sri Lanka: The men from the island nation, who were joint winners in 2002, are playing under a new captain- Angelo Mathews. In Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara- the men who preceded Mathews, it can be said that the Lankans have the ‘proper’ batsmen to handle the heat in England. Lasith Malinga is pretty much the most dangerous bowler in world cricket; and Nuwan Kulasekara’s nagging line and length should come in handy. They kick off their campaign against New Zealand on June 9. Squad: Angelo Mathews (captain), Dinesh Chandimal, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kusal Perera, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Lahiru Thirimanne, Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Rangana Herath, Nuwan Kulasekara, Shaminda Eranga, Sachithra Senanayake, Chanaka Welegedara.
Today maiden Test 100s from Nick Compton & Lahiru Thirimanne. Last time this happened on same day Suresh Raina & Eion Morgan on 29-7-2010
The Galle Test match that concluded in a draw on Tuesday was notable for several reasons, but the one that it will perhaps find a place in the record books for is being just the second instance in Test history where eight centuries were scored in five days. Kumar Sangakkara (twice), Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Tillkaratne Dilshan, Mohammad Ashraful, and Nasir Hossain all recorded three figures in a dull Test in which 1543 runs were scored for the loss of just 18 wickets. This marked only the second time that a Test match included eight centurions. The first was at St John's in April 2005 when AB de Villiers, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Ashwell Prince, Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo each scored hundred in another high-scoring stalemate.
Sri Lanka v Bangladesh, 1st Test, Galle, 2nd day Bangladesh resist after Sri Lanka declare Centuries by Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal extended Sri Lanka's domination on the second day, allowing for a declaration at 570, for the loss of only four wickets. Having been on the field for four and a half sessions, Bangladesh had the better part of the afternoon to regroup and script their reply, and ended the day on a satisfying 135 for 2 with a set Mohammad Ashraful at the crease. Though the visitors had a long way to go, they had the platform to go about their first target of going past the follow-on mark. - Lanka 570/4d 148/2 (47.0 ov) ...Bangladesh trail by 422 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings .Day 3 - Session 1 -Mominul Haque 45* (63) -Mohammad Ashraful 67* (121) -KMDN Kulasekara 10-1-33-0 -RMS Eranga 11-3-33-1 Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details most satisfying aspect of Sri Lanka's performance was that two of their batsmen earmarked for the future, scored centuries. Moises Henriques and Xavier Doherty took three wickets each to capitalize on Phil Hughes' unbeaten century Wednesday as Australia beat Sri Lanka by 32 runs to share the five-match limited-overs series 2-2.
While surfing I saw many comments against the Sri Lankan Young no.3 batsman Lahiru Thirimanne, he is the man who has replaced the legendry batsman Kumar Sangakkara who has scored over 10 runs in both ODI's and in tests. I think that Thirimanne didn't got many chances such as Dinesh Chandimal who normally bats at no.3 or 4 even though Sangakkara is in. Mind you Chandi in the recent past didn't got a place in the team due to his bad form. Thiri batted at no.7 many times and didn't got a chance to spend time at the crease. So how can we compare them!
mahela should sit out the last two ODI's and let mathews captain if chandimal is fit to play! Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Dimuth Karunaratne, Lahiru Thirimanne looks good! old heads needs to go!

Important new for bpl t20 fan:Less than a day before they play their opening match in the BPL, Khulna Royal Bengals have only eleven players to choose their line-up from, after they lost seven Pakistani players due to the fallout between the PCB and BCB. ESPNcricinfo has learned that the franchise has asked the BPL governing council to allow them to bring in more local cricketers than the allotted ten. Khulna is trying to replace Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Awaiz Zia, Umar Amin, Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail and Bilawal Bhatti. "We exactly have 11 players with just one foreigner," Khulna captain Shahriar Nafees told ESPNcricinfo. "Riki Wessels has arrived, but I am not sure whether more will arrive. The management is aware of this information." The prospect is similar for Rangpur Riders, who have lost three Pakistani players - Anwar Ali, Raja Ali Dar and Sharjil Khan. They now have only 12 players left, having picked 15 in the auction. Former Bangladesh captain Faruque Ahmed has been working overtime to find ...
News: Sydney, Jan 17 (ANI): Sri Lanka vice-captain Angelo Mathews has tipped young Lahiru Thirimanne to be a future star for the nati...
Lahiru Thirimanne also will play for us .
World Sports News Mathews praises Sri Lankan rising star Captain-in-waiting Angelo Mathews has rated young batsman Lahiru Thirimanne a future star of Sri Lankan cricket. Thirimanne has been the surprise packet of Sri Lanka's tour of Australia, turning himself from an injury reinforcement into last-start match-winner in Adelaide, to bolster hopes of a one-day series upset. The 23-year-old also scored a fighting 91 after being rushed into the third Test loss at the SCG and is the tourists' form batsman heading into Friday's pivotal ODI in Brisbane. Vice-captain Mathews felt Thirimanne's unbeaten 102 at the Adelaide Oval, bringing up his maiden international century and the eight-wicket victory with a boundary, highlighted the left-hander's immense potential. Before his fighting Test top-score in Sydney, Thirimanne had struggled opening in seven previous Tests (averaging just 20) while he'd also failed to nail down a place in the one-day team (26 in 32 matches). But Mathews said the composed technician was o ...

Lahiru Thirimanne after completing his century in the last ODI against Australia.
BPL News Simon Katich from Australia & Lahiru Thirimanne from SriLanka has been added to Duronto Rajshahi's squad
Regeneration heralded by Thirimanne!!! Some images stick more readily in the mind than others. Among this summer's most indelible sights have been an exhausted and exasperated Peter Siddle on his haunches in Adelaide, Ricky Ponting bowing graciously to the WACA ground at the end of his Test career, and Michael Hussey barely able to contain his glee when carried from the SCG by Siddle and Mitchell Johnson at the conclusion of his. To these may now be added an embrace by two young Sri Lankan cricketers upon the completion of the visitors' eight-wicket hiding of Australia at Adelaide Oval. Lahiru Thirimanne and Kushal Perera completed the task with panache and professionalism, but their spontaneous outburst of joy upon reaching the target demonstrated how much it meant to take their team to a first win of the tour. Thirimanne had the additional pleasure of reaching a century with the winning boundary, and his fluency on a pitch no batsman found easy to negotiate was the latest episode in the most promising s ...
Sri Lanka level one-day series againstAustralia unbeaten maiden one-day century from Lahiru Thirimanne drove Sri Lankato a series-levelling eight-wicket victoryagainst Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday. The batsman hit a boundary for the winning runs and remained unbeaten on 102 for his first ODI ton while opener Tillakaratne Dilshan plundered 51. The tourists, who suffered a 107-run defeat in Melbourne on Friday in the first of the five-match series, reached the target of 171 with 59 balls to spare. Australia had Upal Tharanga caught behind off Clint McKay in the third ball of Sri Lanka's innings with no runs on the board. The hosts mixed up spin with speed but failed to make another breakthrough until Glen Maxwell caught Dilshan off Ben Cutting with the score already on 137. Debutant Kushal Perera, who held four catches behind the wickets, clobbered 14 quick runs with Thirimanne in cruise control. Sri Lanka's seamers led by slinger Lasith Malinga had skittled out Australiafor 170 in the 47th over ...
Lahiru Thirimanne chats to CATV after Sri Lanka claim victory in the second Commonwealth Bank Series ODI at Adelaide Oval.
century from debutant Phil Hughes and sensational fielding helped Australia to a 107-run win against Sri Lanka in Friday's first one-day international at the MCG. FINAL SCORECARD Hughes - who hit 112 from 129 deliveries - became the first Aussie to notch a hundred in their maiden one-day appearance as his country posted a huge score of 5-305, aided by terrific contributions from George Bailey (89 off 79 balls) and David Hussey (60 not out off 34). Despite losing two early wickets, Sri Lanka were in the game at 2-111 after 25 overs with Tillakaratne Dilshan (51) and Dinesh Chandimal (73) looking comfortable at the crease. But a period of madness that saw Australia complete three run-outs - two of which were direct hits - in less than five overs effectively ended the contest as Dilshan, Angelo Mathews (12) and Lahiru Thirimanne (zero) were sent packing. And pacemen Clint McKay (4-33 off eight overs) and Mitchell Johnson (2-43 off nine) mopped up the tail as Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 198 in fro ...
Smart stats Matthew Wade's century is the tenth by a wicketkeeper in Tests against Sri Lanka and the second by an Australian wicketkeeper after Adam Gilchrist's 144 in 2004. Wade's century is his second in Tests after his 106 in West Indies in 2012. It is also the third century scored by an Australian wicketkeeper in Sydney and the fifth overall by wicketkeepers at the venue. The 77-run stand between Wade and Peter Siddle is the joint third-highest stand for the seventh wicket for Australia in Tests against Sri Lanka. The highest is 129 between Ian Healy and Greg Matthews in 1992. Dimuth Karunaratne's 85 is the second-highest score by a Sri Lankan batsman in Tests at the SCG. The highest is Lahiru Thirimanne's 91 which was made in the first innings of this Test. The century stand between Karunaratne and Mahela Jayawardene is the 11th for Sri Lanka in Tests in Australia and the first in Sydney. It is also the third-highest second-wicket stand for Sri Lanka against Australia.
Australia v Sri Lanka, 3rd Test, Sydney Thirimanne pushes Sri Lanka to 294 The Report by Brydon Coverdale Six days ago, while the Sri Lankans were capitulating to lose the Boxing Day Test, Lahiru Thirimanne was back home in Sri Lanka enjoying a day off in between one-day commitments for Ragama. He must have been as surprised as anyone to find himself batting on the opening day of a Test match at the SCG less than a week later. Thirimanne acclimatised to his new role quickly and although he narrowly missed out on a maiden Test century, he ensured Sri Lanka were able to bat until stumps. Just. At the close of play, the Sri Lankans had just been dismissed for 294. It could have been better had Thirimanne or Mahela Jayawardene, who both made half-centuries, gone on to triple figures. But it could also have been much worse after the Sri Lankans were sent in by Michael Clarke, who had chosen four fast bowlers on a pitch tinged with green grass. Jackson Bird finished with 4 for 41 and Mitchell Starc bounced back ...
Sri Lanka falter after Jayawardene finds runs: Stand-in Lahiru Thirimanne and skipper Mahela Jayawardene missed centuries as injury-hit Sri Lanka slumped to 294 all out after a strong start to the third Test against Australia in Sydney. Thirimanne, who only arrived in Australia this week to cover for the injured Kumar Sangakkara, threw away a chance of a first Test hundred.

Tea Sri Lanka 4 for 169 (Jayawardene 72, Thirimanne 37*, Mathews 0*) v Australia Mahela Jayawardene broke a three-year drought by scoring a Test half-century away from home but he was unable to turn it into a hundred as Australia's bowlers chipped away on the first day in Sydney. At tea, Sri Lanka were 4 for 169 and although it was a reasonable score having been sent in to bat, the Australians knew that if they could get through the batsmen at the crease - Lahiru Thirimanne on 37 and Angelo Mathews yet to score - they would have a good chance of being on top at stumps. The Sri Lankans added 89 in the second session for the loss of two wickets, Jayawardene for 72 and Thilan Samaraweera for 12. Thirimanne and Jayawardene put on 62 for the third wicket before Jayawardene was caught at slip driving hard at a Mitchell Starc delivery angled across him and after the third umpire checked for a no-ball and found Starc's heel had landed legally and then slid forward, it was the end of an encouraging stand for Sri L ...
4 changes for Sri Lanka in the game today. Lahiru Thirimanne in for Kumar Sangakkara Dinesh Chandimal in for P. Jayawardene Nuwan Pradeep for Shaminda Eranga Suranga Lakmal for Chanaka Welagedara
Suranga Lakmal and Lahiru Thirimanne will join Sri Lanka’s Test squad ahead of the third and final Test against Australia, which starts on 3rd January.
"Lahiru Thirimanne and Suranga Lakmal have been named as replacements for Sanga and Wele. Both expected in Oz by Tuesday" - Rex Clementine
Kumar Sangakkara could be out for up to two months. Dinesh Chandimal is the only reserve batsman on tour, and is almost certain to be included in the XI for the Sydney Test that begins on January 3. He has also kept wickets for Sri Lanka in Tests, and will take the gloves if Jayawardene is unfit to play. Lahiru Thirimanne is on stand-by for the tour, and may also be flown in as cover. Among the fast bowling reserves, Nuwan Pradeep may earn a start in Sydney, if three seam bowlers are required and Kulasekara cannot play, while Thisara Perera may also be brought into the squad.
Sri Lanka, West Indies eye World T20 semi-finals: Sri Lanka and the West Indies eyed up semi-final places after hard-fought wins in group one of the Super Eights, with the hosts needing a dramatic one over eliminator for victory. With the scores level at 174, Sri Lanka needed one run off paceman Tim Southee's last ball but Lahiru Thirimanne failed to reach the crease after attempting a sharp single.
India take the series 4-1 and go up to No.2 in the ICC ODI rankings. A good series for the visitors. There's a T20 game left but barring an indifferent performance in the second ODI, India have chased well and now, defended a score. Good performance from Jeevan Mendis and Lahiru Thirimanne; they gave India a scare and there was a point when Sri Lanka had edged ahead but India hit back. So, a comprehensive series win for India. Virat Kohli named man of the series.
Sri Lanka were always in the match today as Lahiru Thirimanne kept them in the hunt always. Then, Jeewan Mendis came up with a gritty knock down the order but it was Irfan Pathan who came up with a 5-fer and also claimed the two crucial wickets. Thisara Perera threw his wicket away and was the best bet for Sri Lanka to pull off the coup.
