40 years ago this week there could be little doubt of a white Cache Valley Christmas, with a steady dump of snow. But don't complain: the Siberian town of Verkhoyansk in the Soviet Union logged a balmy temperature of 72 degrees ... *below* zero. What else is happening on December 21st, 1974? Remember George Maharis, star of “Route 66”? He’s been ordered to stand trial on charges of homosexual conduct in the men’s room of a gas station. New York City’s tough new anti-smoking law went into effect on Monday. Considered harsh and unrealistic by 1974 standards, the law bans lighting up in elevators, supermarkets, college classrooms, and church services. The paper dolls could be used as patterns or simply pasted to cereal box cardboard and played with. Anyone want them?

Happy Birthday, Stanley Walter Galli. The San Francisco native studied at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the Art Center School in Los Angeles before he launched his illustration career in the late 1930s. Over the decades, his works appeared in McCall's, Ladies Home Journal, Readers Digest, True Magazine, and the Saturday Evening Post. He also designed 26 postage stamps for the USPO. In the poster world, Galli is well-known for his beautiful travel posters for United Airlines that were commissioned during the late 1950s through the mid-1960s. Galli died in 2009 at the age of 97.

Trevortni Tip: Cold, cold weather brings on badly chapped lips. Use a healing ointment like Aquaphor on your lips. If that doesn't do the trick, check the label on your toothpaste and lip balm. Ingredients like fluoride, menthol and cinnamates can lead to irritation around the mouth. During the winter months, temporarily switch to a natural fluoride-free toothpaste. How to Develop Your Prayer Life I remember a poem in the Ladies Home Journal where a group of men argued around the *** barrel about the best way to pray. Some said the best way to pray was standing up with eyes open to heaven. Others argued that it was best to pray with head bowed; others said prostrate, or kneeling, and so on. But then Jeff Brown, the well driller, spoke up. He told how he had been drilling a well over at the widow Jones' property, and it had caved in, and he had fallen down the shaft. And he said, "The prayinest prayer I ever made, I was standing on my head." Now there is no doubt that God is not interested in the physical attitude of prayer. How did they pray in the Bible? I believe you can find nine different physical positions in the Bible. Jesus prayed with His eyes lifted to heaven; He prayed prostrate on the ground. Hezekiah prayed in bed with his face turned to the wall. But it doesn't make any difference in what horizontal, vertical, or oblong direction your carcass happens ...

ATTACK ON FAMILY: MARRIAGE MELTDOWN HISTORICAL BACKGROUND (most of the info below is available on the internet) Preamble: Most of the times in our speaking about marriage, we always seem to be contrary the status quo without anybody finding out how we got here in the first place and comparing it to God's original plan. Below is a quick overview of the above topic: In the late 1800, the word "dating" was introduced as lower class slang in reference to prostitution. At the turn in the century, in the early 1900s, if one was getting near marrying age (between 20-22yrs back then), the girl's parents would set up the parlor and invite the suitable guys for an "interview". The "suitable candidate" would be re-invited and introduced to the girl, they first become friends with hope that they will one day marry. In the early 1900’s, women’s magazines came into the market, Ladies Home Journal by 1900 had over a million subscribers. Young women no longer took their cue of what is a "normal woman" from their pare ...

Ladies Home Journal 1946 Can Alcoholics Recover? by Gretta Palmer Alcoholism has been called out No.4 public health problem by a medical director of the U. S. Public Health Service-and the postwar years, in which drinking always increases, have scarcely begun. In the U.S. there are 750,000 known alcoholics, or one and one half times the number of victims of tuberculosis. In addition to these, there are 3,000,000 "excessive drinkers/' many of them approaching the stage of true alcoholism, in which they will require expert help. Yet alcoholism-which touches almost every family in the country-is not recognized as a disease at all by millions of Americans! Even many wives of alcoholics confuse the malady with "lack of will power" of "failure to face facts" when they discuss their husbands' problem. The medical world itself is remiss in dealing with the disease: only 110 institutions listed by the American Medical Association accept alcoholic patients, and most of these are content to restore the patient to so ...
Chocolate molten lava cake Decadently rich tream-filled cakes, cookies and pastries have been around for hundreds of years. They became very popular in the 19th century. Chocolate cake likewise debuted in this time period, although it did not make a regular appearance until the beginning of the 20th century. Pain au chocolate, possibly a progenitor of chocolate molten lava cake, was popular in the early 20th century. My survey of articles published in USA newspapers and magazines confirm recipes with this moniker begin surfacing in the early 1990s. Print evidence confirms similar recipes existed in the early 1980s. Think: Maida Heatter. In the food world, this is not unusual. Articles reveal the first "molten cakes" were positioned as haute cuisine. They were served in trendy restaurants and featured in upscale publications (Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Ladies Home Journal). Although originally described as 'comfort food" and employing similar ingredients, it seems unlikely molten cakes originated as humble pudd ...

Those years were devastating I developed all kinds of problems. I was ADHD for starters I began Ritalin at age six but the physical abuse was in full swing so my grandmother was not having me talk to any shrink. I did have some emotional problems I was attention starved there were no hugs, no I love you, no good jobs, no praise, no rewards of any kind what so ever absolutely never. I was never allowed to go play with kids; not even in my front yard and I lived in a nice residential neighborhood nor were they allowed to play with me. I could not give out our phone number or make phone calls, never had a birthday party, and never went to any bodies, never celebrated Christmas, except once when relatives were coming and grandma was putting on a show for them. No trick or treating, no school activities although the track couch came to my house and begged my grandma because I was competing behind her back and I was ready for state championships. I was published in Ladies Home Journal at age 9 one of my poems. ...

I Love My Work. I Hate My Work. It depends. Trying to finish off those remaining difficult biographies. One was for a single composition by a Mrs. J.A. Paterson, published in 1904 in the Ladies Home Journal. That could be from anywhere, and the J.A. might be her initials or his. With only that information, how could one expect to make an ID? Under I Hate My Work, it took several hours of hacking away at something that might seem unimportant, but being one who is tenacious and can't leave things alone, I kept at it. Under I Love My Work, I finally succeeded. This was perhaps the most difficult identification I made in this book. Ten of nearly women remain unidentified, or only partially so. Therefore, I see this as a victory whittling down yet another female composer of ragtime and giving her shape and substance. BTW, she was a music teacher, and her husband a musician. I Love/Hate My Work.

+ This was the Predictions of the Year 2000 from The Ladies Home Journal of December 1900 The Ladies Home Journal from December 1900, which contained a fascinating article by John Elfreth Watkins, Jr. “What May Happen in the Next Hundred Years”. Mr. Watkins wrote: “These prophecies will seem strange, almost impossible. Yet, they have come from the most learned and conservative minds in America. To the wisest and most careful men in our greatest institutions of science and learning I have gone, asking each in his turn to forecast for me what, in his opinion, will have been wrought in his own field of investigation before the dawn of 2001 - a century from now. MEDIA ERADICATES LOVE Every facet of the mass media (movies, TV, magazines, music, commercials, news) is used for indoctrination and social control with the ultimate goal of enslavement. There is a connection between what happened in Communist Russia and what is happening in America today. In both cases the central banking cartel is asserting its totalitarian control. The mass media's function is to distract us from this, and the imminent Iran war and North American Union. Currently they are using the global warming fracas for diversion.
