IF YOU DON'T DIG ON THIS UNFRIEND ME NOW! SOUNDGARDEN IS MY GOD JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW! CORNELL isn't what he used to be vocally, but he's 50! He still sounds great and the band? Well they're SOUNDGARDEN! Matt Cameron may be the best rock drummer to come out of the 90's! Kim Thayil is the guitar effect wizard Ben Shepard lays down the nastiest back beat groove, you owe it to yourself to watch this free!
Tony Iommi, Adam Jones, and Kim Thayil just have that great tone. It's the rhythm section too, I'm sure it's hard to keep in time.
CJ Ramone and Joey Ramone with Chris Cornell, Ben Shepherd, and Kim Thayil of Soundgarden.
Here's an interesting SONIC FACTOID: Kim Thayil was deeply involved in Soundgarden's 'Telephantasm' Retrospective. So much so, that he demanded the ORIGINAL MIX of 'Hands All Over' be chosen over what actually appears on "Louder Than Love". The result is the raw beauty of Cornell's voice completely purged of the post-production ECHO which was added by some faceless technician: an effect which the band did not know was used until after the record's release!
Kim Thayil wears a fedora nowadays but he is forgiven
Yup. Still crushing on Chris Cornell. Also Kim Thayil wdve made the best Jesus, no? Soundgarden - My Wave

"By the time that Mother Love Bone, Green River, and Soundgarden were drawing really well, we had all made records. But prior to us making a record, it was pretty big. We were packing in all the venues that a local or indie band would play - mostly bars and clubs. We were setting attendance records, and there was a huge scene here. A lot of skateboards and a lot of black clothing. We were very aware of the growing scene and the fact that there were a lot of other bands" (Kim Thayil).

Although this becomes factually inaccurate with respect to the early 90's lack of guitar solo (writers must have never heard Kurt Cobain, Jerry Cantrell, Tom Morello, Kim Thayil, Chris Cornell, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Peter Klett...I could go on forever rallying against these people that think 'Saved By The Bell' and Barney defined the 90's), but it's frickin awesome. :) Love FACT MAN.

I just don't think I can be friends with someone who doesn't like Chris Cornell
Here is a great tip for guitarists, forget about what you play and focus on how you play. You don't need a £5000 guitar/amp in order to play your favorite songs. Remember if you can't play it on a £100 guitar, you won't be able to play it on a £1000 guitar. You also don't need 25 effects on your pedalboard. Gus G - 4 Pedals, Zakk Wylde - 7 pedals, Jake E Lee - 4 Pedals, Randy Rhoads - 6 Pedals. If those guys can land a gig as Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist with just a Guitar, Pedalboard and Amp, its living proof that it's not what you play, its how you play! Practice, Practice and Practice... :)

Know your Band: Sound Garden: Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by singer and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band's full-time drummer in 1986, while bassist Ben Shepherd became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990. Soundgarden was one of the seminal bands in the creation of grunge, a style of alternative rock that developed in Seattle, and was one of a number of grunge bands signed to the record label Sub Pop. Soundgarden was the first grunge band to sign to a major label (A&M Records, in 1988), though the band did not achieve commercial success until they popularized the genre in the early 1990s with Seattle contemporaries Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam. Soundgarden achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and yielded the Grammy Award-winning singles "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman". In 1997, the b ...

Thanks for becoming a fan of Breck Lee Durham's music. But you may ask yourself. What kind of man is Breck Lee Durham? Imagine if Elvis had an illegitimate child with Kitty Wells that was raised by Angus Young and Suzi Quatro, had school teachers like Bootsy Collins, Waylon Jennings, Tom Waits, Kurt Russell, Chuck Berry, Evil Kneviel and Ted Hendricks, played little league with Glenn Danzig and Kim Thayil, bought pot from Bradley Nowell, smoked pot with Cripsin Glover, lost his virginity to Kristy Macnichol (babysitter, of course), got beat up by Brett Favre, spent summers with crazy uncles like Dennis Hopper and Townes Van Zandt, had an after school job alphabetizing James Brown’s library and was an intern at Dr. Funky Junk’s House of Chunky *** Guitar Riff’s. Then imagine that child was hit in the head by a John Bonham drumstick, spends 12 years in an amnesia fog, is cured by watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Wild At Heart and Flash Gordon back to back to back for 780 continuous hours, recla ...

I was on the bus coming back home from Jerry's and the best pizza I have EVER had (Mineo's. Never had it? Get it when you're in the burgh) and I was bobbing my head, tapping my fingers in a guitarist type of way and this guy who I was watching, also listening to music (I was listening to At The Drive-In) and he says to me, "you play the guitar?" I said, "I have been teaching myself for quite a while" he said, "I saw you tapping. Only guitarists do that". We got into the best conversation I have ever had about music. He told me he just got out of jail (even though he was a black guy with tats I had already known he was a felon. Drug user. No stereotype) and that he has been playing guitar for 25 years. We talked about Tom Morello, Joe Satriani, Kim Thayil (who he met when he was in Atlanta- he wasn't going to see Soundgarden play he was out there by their tour bus smoking a cigarette when Kim came out. He told me he isn't as big as I thought.) that he's played in the South Side and all over Pittsburgh. We ...
I can't believe just a few days ago I was bashing Kim Thayil for saying that shred guitar, pro wrestling, and soldier of fortune magazine all had a connection. Now, the *** is up for a Golden God award for "Best Guitarist"?
First album of the 4 is Soundgarden's latest album entitled "King Animal" Which amazed old fans and no doubt earned them a lot of new ones, King Animal was their first album in an upwards of 15 years! And although they've all been out of Soundgarden for 15 years, they haven't lost their touch, Chris Cornell's voice is still as gritty and signature as it was back in "Superunknown" just a bit more matured to give a more professional sound and of course reformed with the original line up of Matt Cameron on drums, Kim Thayil on lead guitar and Ben Shepherd on bass and of course Chris Cornell on vocals and rhythm guitar, My review of the album is a 9.5 out of 10, If you enjoy Soundgarden, Rock music, or what ever other reason you may be able to dig up, King Animal is a must-buy!

Well, I'm back, and if you're wondering, "back? What do you mean 'back?' Where'd you go?" well good. Don't worry about it. Just something that deserves to be left in the "Ooh lookey! Its magic! In a blink of an eye its gone!" file. Doing better. I've survived a week that almost did me in. Life just kind of voraciously yelled at me and told me to calm down, reality checked me, and had me grow up all in the same swat, resulting in total and complete meltdown. Fun times! But yeah, I'm here in the here and now and not doing too bad. Just taking everything kind of slowly, healing. My best friends right now are the book "Not Taco Bell Material" by Adam Carolla, which is serious laughter, and the new Soundgarden album, and to that I offer the following: It has taken Soundgarden 15 years to get back into business, when they never should have broken up in the first place. In that time span Matt Cameron has been the drummer for Pearl Jam. Ben Shepherd has had his own group "Hater". Kim Thayil has been playing guita ...

The album appropriately kicks off with a song called “Been Away Too Long,” with Cornell asserting that “You can’t go home, no I swear you never can.” However, what most long-time fans will get from the album is the satisfying feeling that Soundgarden have never been gone. “I wouldn’t want to use mat...

"We still rock, we're still heavy, and we're still a little weird." Kim Thayil talks country & eastern:
According to the August 30th issue of Rolling Stone (via Blabbermouth.net), Soundgarden will release their as-yet untitled new album on November 13th, their first studio release since 1996′s Down on the Upside. Blabbermouth reports that the print issue of Rolling Stone features an interview with guitarist Kim Thayil who says the new album “re-establishes that we still rock, we’re still heavy, and we’re still a little weird.” Two songs set to appear are ”Blood On The Valley Floor” and ”A Thousand Days Before”, the latter of which Thayil describes as “a little Indian thing and some chicken-pickin’. We call it ‘country and eastern.’” Since their reunion in 2010, Soundgarden have teased this new album, having released “Live To Rise” for The Avengers soundtrack earlier this year.

Everybody i've talked to says the new Soundgarden sux because it doesnt sound like them... For one thing all they've heard is the one track on the radio which was written for The Avengers soundtrack. If u truly got into Soundgarden back n the day then u will know that they still managed to keep their sound even n the song i'm talkin bout. Chris Cornell still has the same voice that made him one of the best vocalists in grunge music...(kind of a love it or hate it voice from the opinions i've gathered), The drummer(Matt Cameron) still has a unique drum tone & is still using a style all his own. He always had a way of using certain techniques & drum fills that gave the band, & him as an individual musician, a different sound. Kim Thayil (guitar) was never a great soloist... he was more of an innovator as far as the particular notes & effects he used... kinda like the dude from rage against the machine. These three individuals are what always made them a band that was slightly different than the others in th ...
I like Soundgarden but the reunion single from THE AVENGERS soundtrack is pretty generic and Kim Thayil now looks like Santa Claus.
Soundgarden: "Live to Rise" For the first time since 1997, Soundgarden has released new music. After such a long "break," it's almost unreasonable to expect greatness from any band. But if any band can pull off such a comeback, it's Soundgarden. It's not that I still trust Chris Cornell. After more than a decade of greatness in Soundgarden - a band that perfectly blended Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin with a modern hard rock twist - Cornell has consistently made mediocre or flat-out bad music. Who could still have faith in a musician who released albums as bad as "Carry On" (a pop album drowned by heavy production and nearly devoid of hooks) and "Scream" (a hip-hop-influenced collaboration with Timbaland)? But Cornell's 2011 single, "The Keeper" - made for the "Machine Gun Preacher" soundtrack - showed that he still has life and can write a good song when he puts his mind to it. Also, Soundgarden's reliably outstanding guitarist Kim Thayil is involved and that means, at the very least, the music will rock ...
