What a signing this would be! have been linked with a move for German international and Dortmund winger, Kevin Großkreutz
It’s looking increasingly likely that Japanese star Shinji Kagawa will leave Manchester United to return to Borussia Dortmund before the transfer window closes on August 31st. German paper Der Westen are reporting on Friday that, whilst United and BVB are yet to finalise terms, Kagawa has agreed to make the move back to the Westfalenstadion. Der Westen add that the “evidence is mouthing” that the Kagawa deal will happen, and that “Dortmund and the Japanese star are already agreed” on the deal. Looking further afield, reports are swirling that Dortmund will re-sign Kagawa, whom they sold to United for €17 million, for just over €10 million plus a possible €2.5 million in add-ons. That would seem like a brilliant bit of business for Jurgen Klopp’s outfit. Other tidbits relayed by Der Westen include the fact that BVB’s Kevin Grosskreutz called up Kagawa this week to convince his old teammate to return to the Bundesliga club.

DORTMUND: Apart from the long-term injured Neven Subotic, Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gündogan, Jürgen Klopp has a full squad to select from for the Bundesliga restart against FC Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday (kick-off: 1530 CET). “For the first time in a while, there will be some tough selection calls,” said the Dortmund coach on Thursday. “Those who came through all the sessions are in top shape. It’s a perfect situation.” In the last two training sessions before the game on Thursday and Friday, “we will need to find out who can help the team most. There are a number of top players available for a variety of positions.” There has been a lot of speculation in the media as to who will fill the right-back role: regular defender Lukasz Piszczek or Kevin Grosskreutz, who impressed as his stand-in. The same question could also be asked on the other side where Germany defender Marcel Schmelzer and Erik Durm, the ‘discovery of the season”, are vying for a starting spot. And who will p ...

Kevin Grosskreutz scored an 87th-minute winner to send last year's beaten finalists, Borussia Dortmund into the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday.
Borussia Dortmund's dramatic late win over Marseille and Schalke's victory over Basel ensured they joined Bayer Leverkusen and defending champions Bayern Munich in Monday's draw for the last 16. It was up to Dortmund-born Kevin Grosskreutz to complete the quartet, when his last-gasp strike secured a 2-1 win at the Stade Velodrome, and with it Dortmund’s place in the knockout stages as runners-up in Group D. Schalke, meanwhile, beat Basel 2-0 to seal second spot in Group E. German football magazine kicker hailed "The Historic Four" on Thursday's front page. With the German flag as the background, Pep Guardiola, Juergen Klopp, Sami Hyypia and Jens Keller all glance at the Champions League trophy. "Right now, I regard the Bundesliga as the strongest league in Europe," former Germany captain Lothar Matthaeus commented in his kicker column. "That’s why I have indeed expected all four teams to reach the round of the last 16 in Champions League." Since the introduction of the round of 16 in the 2003-04 seaso ...
Classic Klopp & his post match comments : Basically we did everything right today and in the end we still got so many things wrong. It was incredible how many chances we created against unbelievably compact opponents who also defended with passion. But it was even more incredible how we managed to miss those opportunities. We twice had a situation where someone failed to kick the ball when it was already on the goal line and [Robert] Lewandowski also managed miss an open goal. In the end we required a scrambled shot by Kevin Grosskreutz – but it's a great feeling. We had a lot of problems before this match and this was a difficult and intense game. Marseille fought for their pride. They didn't have any weapons but still managed to score. Of course we still believed we could win the match because we got into their box about every 30 seconds. At some point the ball just had to go in. The lads put in a great effort today and were completely focused. They outdid themselves because there was a lot of pressur ...
Arsene Wenger feels sorry for Napoli after the Italians were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League despite a 2-0 win over Arsenal.Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon scored two late goals for the Serie A club, but Kevin Grosskreutz's winner in Borussia Dortmund's 2-1 victory over Marseille meant Napoli dropped to third in Group F due to their inferior goal difference. And the Frenchman revealed Arteta felt his sending off for a second yellow card with Napoli 1-0 up was harsh. -Raz
Kevin Grosskreutz scored in the final moments of the game to see Borussia Dortmund progress to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League competition after defeating a 10-man Marseille side 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
Dortmund, Milan limp into last 16 Last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund were spared a Champions League exit when a dramatic late goal from Kevin Grosskreutz sent the German side into the last 16 on Wednesday. Dortmund, who beat Olympique Marseille 2-1, Arsenal and Napoli all finished on 12 points with the Bundesliga team topping Group F and the Italians proving the odd side out on head-to-head superiority despite a 2-0 victory over the English Premier League leaders. AC Milan will be Italy's only representatives in the knockout stage as Galatasaray, Zenit St Petersburg and Schalke 04 secured the remaining last 16 places in Monday's draw which will feature four representatives each from the Premier League and Bundesliga. Barcelona, who should have Lionel Messi back from injury when the competition resumes in February, signed off from the group phase in style with Brazil striker Neymar scoring a hat-trick, his first Champions League goals, in a 6-1 romp over Celtic at the Nou Camp. Jose Mourinho can al ...
Kevin Grosskreutz scoring late in the Borussia Dortmund match today to advance in the Champions League was the start to a good day 🏆⚽
So, Arsene Wenger, is your glass half-full or half- empty? When the draw was made, second place behind Borussia Dortmund would not have been sneered at, but this was a real opportunity missed. Arsenal were in control in Naples but let it slip, and they paid a heavy price with their potential opponents in the last 16. They created few opportunities and were punished when Gonzalo Higuain scored, with Jose Callejon's late, late strike counting for little. Ultimately, though, this was a fantastic Champions League group, the first time three sides have finished on 12 points. Napoli were unfortunate and Dortmund lucky, while Arsenal probably got what they deserved for slackness on the final day. But news from Marseille was met with cries of despair from the stands, with Kevin Grosskreutz firing Borussia Dortmund to a last-gasp 2-1 victory and sending the Germans through as winners of Group F. Jose Callejon added a second for Napoli at the death, but it was too little too late for the Serie A club. Arsenal go th ...
Champions League reaction: Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Napoli Dortmund defender Kevin Grosskreutz: "We wanted to give our fans and ourselves something to celebrate. We deserved to win. After Napoli scored their goal I asked Sebastian Kehl if the result was still good enough for us. Our coach had explained everything yesterday, but I didn’t fully understand it at the time. After we scored to make it 3-1 I knew that was enough."
3 The starting line-ups Robert Lewandowski’s late goal gave Dortmund an important victory at the Emirates. Arsene Wenger was without the concussed Mathieu Flamini, so Aaron Ramsey returned. Santi Cazorla isn’t yet at 100% fitness, so Tomas Rosicky replaced him on the left. Jurgen Klopp is still without Ilkay Gundogan and Lukasz Piszczek, while on the right, Jakub Blaszczykowski started rather than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. This was a relatively tight, evenly-matched game almost entirely based around the positioning of the full-backs: Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs, and Dortmund’s Kevin Grosskreutz and Marcel Schmelzer. The key issue high lines Both sides started with high defensive lines, which compacted the play into a thin strip either side of the halfway line. This meant that the full-backs found themselves in advanced positions extremely easily – it only took a 30-yard run, and they found themselves breaking in behind the opposition defence. In this respect, the game was similar to ...
Arsenal sunk by Dortmund sucker punch A sucker punch from Robert Lewandowski consigned Arsenal to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Dortmund took the lead when Aaron Ramsey was dispossessed on the edge of his own penalty area, Lewandowski laying the ball off to Henrik Mkhitaryan who fired past Wojciech Szczesny from the edge of the penalty area. But Olivier Giroud drew the hosts level from point blank range when a devilish cross from Bacary Sagna provoked a mix up between Neven Subotic and Roman Weidenfeller as the sides went in level at the break. Lewandowski was perhaps fortunate not to get a straight red card after elbowing Laurent Koscielny in the face as Arsenal built up a head of steam, Santi Cazorla hitting the bar with a rasping shot from range. Just nine minutes remained when Dortmund fled upfield, Kevin Grosskreutz crossing for Lewandowski to convert on the volley at the back post and seal three points for last year's runners-up. A double from Fernando Torre ...
Arsenal 1 Borussia Dortmund 2: match report Read a full match report of the Champions League Group F game between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund at Emirates Stadium on . By Henry Winter Arsenal’s wonderful commitment to attack and occasional lack of concentration can see them caught out by the better, counter-attacking sides. Both full-backs were out of position as Borussia Dortmund plundered a late, undeserved winner through Robert Lewandowski to complicate Arsenal’s Champions League hopes. There is such joyous desire in Arsenal hearts to flood forward, one of the features of the season, but somebody needs to play the sentry, patrolling deep in case the opposition break out suddenly. Arsenal missed Mathieu Flamini last night, both for his ability to shield the centre-halves and also, as he is intelligent enough to do, to slot into one of the full-back positions if Kieran Gibbs and Bacary Sagna venture upfield. When Jonas Hofmann sent Kevin Grosskreutz into space behind Gibbs, Arsenal’s centre-halves ...

Robben with the killer blow, but must say Dortmund are the most spirited football team presently, no big names, every player plays football with an extremely high passion, Subotic with an awesome goal line clearance, Dante was lucky not to get a 2nd Yellow,. Robben finally breaks his jinx. May be the result is fair in terms of the ruthless season Bayern had, but still Dortmund. Take a bow \m/ \m/
Frank Ribery was yellow carded twice and was still playing.Poor officiating by the ref
63' Dortmund drive upfield and Kevin Grosskreutz gets in a shot. The strike is blocked by a B. Munich defender.
GREAT SAVE! - Dortmund 0-0 Bayern Munich Dortmund continue to harry and hassle Bayern, as Jakub Blaszczykowski forces an error from Dante to start another attack. Kevin Grosskreutz retrieves the ball out wide and finds Sven Bender, who ironically can't find enough bend on his low shot to beat that man Manuel Neuer. Another good save from the German number one.
DORTMUND RAMPANT Borussia Dortmund are utterly dominant at the moment. They threaten again on the counter-attack, as Kevin Grosskreutz picks out Marco Reus with a clever reverse ball, and Reus leaves Philipp Lahm for dead, before shooting from the edge of the area, forcing Neuer into yet another save. Jupp Heynckes will not be happy with the way this final has started for his team. -Eenzal
IMHO, I don't see BVB giving FCB much of a hard time really. Especially since their best player, Mario Gotze, won't take any part. Which will force Klopp to revert from their traditional 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3, unless they'd deploy Marco Reus in the hole and play Kevin Grosskreutz on the wing, who isn't as effective as Reus. It'll be closely contested, but FCB will show they're the better side, however, they should undermine BVB at their own peril because they're capable of pulling off an upset. It'll be an interesting game, can't wait ...
Dortmund v Bayern Munich (1945 BST) So as expected both sides make just one change from their semi-final second leg wins. Borussia Dortmund replace injured playmaker Mario Gotze with winger Kevin Grosskreutz, who will play on the left, with Marco Reus moving inside to take Gotze's role behind the prolific lone striker Robert Lewandowski. The text commentator's friend Jakub Blaszczykowski is in. Bayern Munich have Dante back in defence after suspension, with former Manchester City man Jerome Boateng playing alongside him.
BREAKING TEAM NEWS- Dortmund v Bayern Munich (1945 BST) The Dortmund team is in then, and it's as we expected. The one change from the second leg of the semi-final win against Real Madrid sees the injured Mario Gotze replaced by Kevin Grosskreutz.
I put my money on Dortmund, my only worry is that Mario Gotze won't start and is replaced by Kevin Grosskreutz. A slight reason to shiver.
Website Builder 728x90
Gotze won't feature today but, as team-mate Kevin Grosskreutz pointed out, Dortmund destroyed Bayern in last year’s DFB Pokal final without Gotze. Bart
Borussia Dortmund's Champions League hopes were dealt a blow by the confirmation that Mario Gotze will miss the final due to a thigh injury. Kevin Grosskreutz is expected to take the 20-year-old's place in the XI, with Marco Reus shifting into the centre of the attacking trio behind Robert Lewandowski. At the back, Lukasz Piszczek is fit to play, but will undergo thigh surgery in the summer, while Mats Hummels is expected to shake off a minor ankle injury to feature against the club that bred him. Meanwhile, the only major question mark in the Bayern Munich ranks is as to whom will partner Dante at centre-back. With Holger Badstuber missing since December, Daniel Van Buyten and Jerome Boateng have been rotated at the heart of defence, but the Belgian is the more likely to start the final. Toni Kroos remains sidelined after picking up a muscle injury in the quarter-final first leg against Juventus, so Arjen Robben will continue on the right, with Thomas Muller lining up behind lone striker Mario Mandzukic, ...
I'm guna go for 2-1 Dortmund with Marco Reus and Kevin Grosskreutz getting the goals.
Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions This season was the perfection of the Bayern system. Still that familiar 4-2-3-1, but with personal tweaks. Dante becomes the center of the defense, better than anything Bayern had in the past. The rise of David Alaba on the left wing turned Franck Ribery into a much more dangerous player, while Philip Lahm has gotten more attacking responsibility with Arjen Robben missing most of the time. Toni Kroos is injured, which means Robben will start, but it’s been a different, more mature, and less selfish Robben this season, blending in instead of trying to steal the show. No team works harder than Dortmund as a whole unit, and Kevin Grosskreutz who’ll be starting for Gotze is that kind of physical freak who can run up and down for 90 minutes without tiring, although his lack of play in recent times might effect that. For Dortmund to win it’s going to take more than simply moments of brilliance from Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski, but especially a perfect ...
Let's assume you're Mario Gotze seated with the fans and neutral alike tomorrow night and Wembley has already gone wild, which team will you cheer, or rather better, support?
Nothing Shall Be Left Untouched. Borussia Dortmund ended Bayern Munich's 14-match winning run in the Bundesliga as the warm-up for the Champions League final finished in a fiery 1-1 draw. Bayern had five players booked and full-back Rafinha sent off, while Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp was caught up in a heated exchange with visiting sporting director Matthias Sammer. With Bayern already having won the league title and Dortmund guaranteed a Champions League place next season, a low-key encounter had been expected as both teams prepare for the Champions League final on 25 May. Both teams rested key players for the Wembley showdown - Dortmund, without the injured Mario Gotze, rested the likes of Mats Hummels and Lukasz Piszczek, and Marco Reus only appeared as a late substitute. Bayern were without Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez, with Thomas Mueller coming off the bench. Dortmund went ahead through Kevin Grosskreutz after 11 minutes, only for Mario Gomez to level after 23 minutes. The ...

When Bayern Munich take on Borussia Dortmund in the first all-German Champions League final on Saturday, it will not only be a clash of footballing cultures but also a showdown of two different coaching styles. Bayern's Jupp Heynckes, 68 and at the twilight of his career, is chasing a second Champions League crown and unprecedented treble for a German club in what looks to be his last professional season with Pep Guardiola taking over in July. Heynckes' side ran away with the German title this term and in Europe have recovered superbly from the bitter disappointment of losing last year's final to Chelsea at their home ground. Nicknamed Osram after the German lightbulb manufacturer for the way his face reddens when agitated, Heynckes otherwise rarely displays his emotions unlike Dortmund boss Juergen Klopp, whose volcanic explosions on the sidelines are common. (Real Madrid target Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes as new manager to replace Jose Mourinho) Real Madrid are preparing to approach Jupp Heynckes, the Bayern Munich manager, about the possibility of replacing Jose Mourinho rather than go into retirement after Saturday's Champions League final. Heynckes will leave Bayern regardless of whether his team do defeat Jurgen Klopp's Borussia Dortmund at Wembley this weekend and has previously said that the Champions League final would be the last match of his 34- year coaching career. Madrid, however, would be interested in reappointing the 68 year-old for one final challenge in management if they continue to be frustrated by Paris St Germain in their attempts to recruit Carlo Ancelotti. Heynckes was the manager when Real Madrid won the Champions League in 1998 and is attempting this weekend to follow Jose Mourinho, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Ernst Happel in becoming only the fourth coach in history to win the European Cup at two different clubs ...

Bundesliga, Germany As more details come out from Hoffenheim's 2-1 win over Dortmund today, it adds up to a ever-more dramatic tale. With Hoffenheim needing to win to avoid automatic relegation, they moved 2-1 up in an incident that saw Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller sent off on 80 minutes. All three subs used, Jurgen Klopp stuck Kevin Grosskreutz between the posts. But even he was ushered upfield for a late Dortmund assault on the Hoffenheim goal. Dortmund's Marcel Schmelzer looked to have scored an injury-time equaliser, but, after initially awarding the goal that would have sent Hoffenheim down, the officials consulted and disallowed it for offside. Phew. What a finish.
