I attended First Night Evanston NYE celebration with some Evanstonians, which coincided with Evanston's 150th anniversary year. We saw Dolly Varden, Howard Levy and Acoustic Express and Corky Siegel and Chamber Blues. Phenomenal musicianship all around! On the Edens Expressway going up there and the Kennedy Expressway coming back, I encountered some amazingly terrible drivers. Most of them just plain couldn't handle the snow, and the roads had not been plowed very well. The Eisenhower turned out to be a breeze from downtown to Oak Park, which was cool. All I had was (1) Beck's all night. Guess I'm a Teetotaler!

Excerpts from WHO HOLDS THE POWER The Villa Historic District(Irving Park), Chicago Illinois Located just off the Kennedy Expressway within the city's greater Irving Park neighborhood just six miles northwest of downtown, this community is best defined for its award winning parkway streets, stone planters and last but not least it award winning residential homes. All of which has been around for more than likely the first part of the century. A triangle of a hundred and twenty six homes bordered by Addison Street, Pulaski Road, Avondale Avenue and Hamlin Avenue was established in 1907. Many Victorians, Craftsman-style bungalows, prairies, colonial tudors and not to mention Chicago's signature bungalows aligns each of the latter corridors. For the past three years, residents have been working diligently to replace at least over a hundred and twenty of their trees which had been casualties of a Dutch elm outbreak,(sometimes during the 1960's). Surprisingly, they even employ their own snow equipment to clean ...
A young lady was complaining about the Chicago traffic. I lived in Chicago for 55 years. Believe me, the Chicago's traffic is "good" as compared to LA. This is my comment: I am a Chicagoan and the traffic there is a cake walk as compared to the traffic in LA especially the 405 Freeway. I did not use profanity until I was a victim of the 405 traffic. Most of the freeways in LA are comparable to the Kennedy Expressway and Dan Ryan combined during rush hours. LA has two freeways voted the busiest in the world. I know the Chicago traffic gridlocks are frustrating, but remember, it could be worse.

Here is a tidbit on one of Obama's GOOD FRIENDS!!! In 1969, Bill Ayers participated in planting a bomb at a statue dedicated to police casualties in the 1886 Haymarket affair confrontation between labor supporters and the Chicago police. The blast broke almost 100 windows and blew pieces of the statue onto the nearby Kennedy Expressway. (The statue was rebuilt and unveiled on May 4, 1970, and blown up again by other Weathermen on October 6, 1970. Rebuilding it yet again, the city posted a 24-hour police guard to prevent another blast, and in January 1972 it was moved to Chicago police headquarters).

Thanks so much to everyone for your birthday wishes. It really means a lot to me. The day started out with a bang - literally - at about 9:00 am. I was rear-ended by a tow truck on the Kennedy Expressway under the Randolph St. overpass, and the impact pushed my car into the one in front of me. The good news is that I'm okay, the car is still drivable and the day did improve from that point. Now I only have to fight with the guy's insurance company and get the car fixed. It should keep me busy for a while. So if you see a silver Honda Accord with the trunk all smashed in, say hi.
So NATO is from May 19-21 so that means stay off the Stevenson Expressway, Lake Shore Drive, the Kennedy Expressway and streets near the lakefront Museum Campus — They'll be closed on the majority of the summit. Take the streets at best or just don't go downtown to avoid the hassle. At least 22 bus routes will be detoured. CTA trains should be fine but the metra might be a hassle due to it possibly being detoured as well. Be sure to plan ahead your travels this coming weekend :) You're welcome.
