Never Let Me Go (2010): "...Although 'Never Let Me Go' does contain some very strong science fiction concepts in its story, these elements serve mainly as a backdrop, and the story actually has more in common with films such as 'Stand by Me' (1986) and Kazuo Ishiguro's original novel of the same name, than anything written by revered sci-fi author Philip K. *** (whose work, of course, inspired 'Blade Runner,' 'Total Recall,' and 'Minority Report'). At its heart, though, 'Never Let Me Go' is a story about life, love, loss, and humanity..." - Me, David S. Reid (in 2011), personal essay, "Never Let Me Go" (2010)
Since leaving Uni I have not read a thing. In fact, I have not read a novel for years as all my reading has been from a text book. So, I was thinking about the kind of books I like and I think it is subtle, 'human', science fiction. I like Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, David Mitchell books, The Time Travellers Wife or The Handmaid's Tale. So no machines or aliens please. Can anyone suggest something I might like? I was thinking of dipping into Kafka but I don't know where to start. Any ideas?

Screw you Kazuo Ishiguro .. Why did you do this to me!
All I know is that I've wasted all these years looking for something, a sort of trophy I'd get only if I really, really did enough to deserve it. But I don't want it anymore, I want something else now, something warm and sheltering, something I can turn to, regardless of what I do, regardless of who I become. Something that will just be there, always, like tomorrow's sky. That's what I want now, and I think it's what you should want too. But it will be too late soon. We'll become too set to change. If we don't take our chance now, another may never come for either of us. Kazuo Ishiguro
it is. I love Kazuo Ishiguro. Great writer.
