For my birthday in April, hubby booked advance tickets for "South Pacific". Saw it last night. Terrific show, Lisa McCune always v good (she was great in "Guys and Dolls" and "Urinetown" ), so I'm a fan. Teddy Tahu Rhodes with that testosterone-fuelled baritone wowed the audience ..and us. Supporting them Gitely Ganton was a convincing Luther Billis and Christine Anu oK as Bloody Mary. i think Kate Ceberano who originated the role in this production would have been better, earthier, but Anu did a good job. Overall a fabulous night out. Off to the old-time dance at Colo Vale Community Hall tonight. Gee, I'm a lucky girl.

Long time cabaret lovers attending last year's Cabaret Festival were very disappointed at the tiny amount of content that was actually cabaret, rather than bands and singers. The ignorance of claiming that more tickets were sold, so the festival was better, is unbelievable. If I staged an annual cello festival and booked the Rolling Stones, and a dozen other big names bands one year, I would sell massive numbers of tickets. It would be, financially, the most successful cello festival so far, but would it be a better cello festival if I had dumped nearly all of the cello music? Clearly, from her programme, knowing nothing about cabaret, that was what Kate Ceberano did last year. In past years the real cabaret lovers packed the food court at all times of the day and, especially, night. Last year it was dead, because the younger audience were there to see singers and bands and were only interested in that part of the experience, as well as drinking while they listened. This quote is from today's InDaily. It i ...
