With PBS' Masterpiece Mystery series still three weeks off (watch for the return of Lewis, Endeavour and Foyle!, along with new series Silk and a one-off of The Lady Vanishes), you may be jonesin' for a bit of vid-mystery. Currently on our shelves are the series "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" (featuring everyone's favorite Aussie flapper Phyrne Fisher), "The Bletchley Circle: Cracking a Killer's Code" (the recent miniseries that deserves another season or two), "Commissario Brunetti" (starring Joachim Krol as Donna Leon's favorite detective), "Case Histories" (the Jason Isaacs series based on the Jackon Brodie Novels by Kate Atkinson) and "Maigret", featuring Michael Gambon as George Simenon's detective (and a host of British stalwarts in various roles). Also available and affording more than a modicum of stellar action, Daniel Craig as Bond reborn in "Casino Royale." All-in-all, a perfect collection to while away hot summer nights.

It's private investigator Jackson Brodie, brought vividly to life in words — and music — by author Kate Atkinson. In an exclusive interview, Atkinson explains her love of music, and the Case Histories producers share details of the songs used in the series. Thoughts from Kate Atkinson: Like me, Jackson is a long-term country fan and for each of the novels I've had a playlist — something which often evolves during the course of the novel, but which somehow points me to something essential at the heart of each book. Sometimes the tracks don't seem particularly relevant, but they are to me (and Jackson)... I love BBC TV videos etc. Last night I watched the amazing Jason Isaacs in the wonderful Kate Atkinson's (author) Jackson Brodie series Case Histories. Cool music great scenery (Scotland) plus Jason. And of course incredible acting and twisty storyline. Be still my heart they are filming another season.
just started Case Histories by Kate Atkinson and already obsessed with it!
Just finished reading "Case Histories" by Kate Atkinson. *** it was so good I ordered 4 more of her books at thriftbooks.com, best deal going other than the library. This one was written in 2004 and could be called a mystery...but it's no ordinary mystery. This woman writes so well it gives you chills up the spine! You have to reread sections two or three times to believe you just read that! Shes very funny and so deep and at times scary. I think she could write anything, an oped in the NYT's a poem a mystery a novel, and apparently she has, can't wait for my new books!
Done with Life of Pi. A very twisted ending. Now reading Case Histories by Kate Atkinson, the best book of the decade acc. to Stephen King.
Kate Atkinson's Case Histories for serious, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books (One for the Money is the first) for slapstick
