Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948 after three failed attempts. Many people know that on 25 June 1934 conspirators tried to assassinate MK Gandhi in Pune. But little do they know that the first attempt to kill Gandhiji was made in 1917. In 1934, Gandhiji along with his wife, Kasturba Gandhi, was in the city to deliver a speech at corporation auditorium. The car in which the couple was travelling was delayed and the first car reached the auditorium. Just when the first car arrived at the auditorium, a bomb was thrown, which exploded near the car. However Gandhiji escaped unscathed. ..Well it exposes RSS and NATHURAM GODSE theory that they wanted to kill MAHATMA when they come to know that MAHTMA is asking our govt to give 50 CR to PAKISTAN...shameless RSS shameless propganda..

HYDERABAD: At a time when the state government is busy firming up its plans of constituting a madrassa board, the Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM), tasked with the implementation of modern education in seminaries, has found itself short of reaching out to a staggering 35,652 students studying in madrassas, missing a target of 1.3 lakh by many a mile. A recent report (a copy of which is in TOI's possession) submitted to top education department officials says that only 428 madrassas with a student strength of 45,447 as against last year's 1,051 madrassas with 94,667 students have sought RVM's support for 2013-14. Given RVM's estimate of around 2,000 madrassas in the state, the report also admits that it is 770 madrassas short of an ambitious target of reaching out to 1,821 such seminaries. "We wanted to equip madrassas with B Ed qualified teachers to impart quality education. But they are against this and want to appoint their own people, meaning that they want more autonomy, which is why several of them dropped ...

The Indian National callsign "50 years of flying" _ these words were proudly painted on all Indian Airlines aircraft as the State-owned airlines celebrated its golden jubilee on Friday. But the registration number displayed close by on the fuselage marred the sense of pride a trifle. Starting with the initials VT, the registration number of all Indian civil aircraft serves as a reminder of the country's colonial past. Standing for Viceroy's Territory, the registration prefix VT was assigned to India in 1929, and it continued ever since. "Bombay became Mumbai, Connaught Place became Rajiv Gandhi Chowk and Curzon Road became Kasturba Gandhi Marg. But nobody has thought of writing to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) asking for a change in the call sign of Indian aircraft," disclosed an official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). So whether it is an Indian Airlines, Air-India, Jet or a Sahara owned aircraft, all have the prefix VT in their registration numbers. The alphab ...

SIGNS OF THE TIMES Bapu: Stark simplicity laced with truth Filing this column on this Gandhi Jayanti and for the last couple of days been reading, rather re-reading, several books on the Mahatma. And the very crux of his philosophy was stark simplicity laced with the truth. No, nothing complicated or complex. And definitely not layered. Subtle and yet direct. Probably that is why you and I can relate to his relays. And stretching this still further, each time I had met Mahatma Gandhi’s four grandchildren - children of his son Devadas Gandhi - I got the same sense of the uncomplicated holding sway. Yes, each time I’d sat interviewing Ramchandra Gandhi, Rajmohan Gandhi, Gopalkrishna Gandhi and Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, I got the feeling of genuineness in their words, views and offloads. And when I’d visited the homes of Tara and Rajmohan what struck was the sheer simplicity. No, nothing gaudy or frilly; but as though they are living each single day with the bare basics. In fact, the late Ramchandra G ...

Q: Guruji, Please share your thought about ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ and his teachings? Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Mahatma Gandhi used to read it every day. I’ll share an instance with you, probably nobody knows it. My Guru, Pandit Sudhakar Chaturvedi had been with Mahatma Gandhi in Rewara Jail. He had been with him for forty years. He is the knower of the four Vedas (and hence conferred the title Chaturvedi). The day when Kasturba Gandhi died, Mahatma Gandhi came out, tears rolling down his eyes and spoke to Pandit Sudhakar Chaturvedi (who was known as ‘Bengaluri’ back then). Mahatma Gandhi ji said, ‘Bengaluri, read out the second chapter of Gita today. It is the day to test your Bapu (Gandhiji was fondly known as Bapu, which means Father), whether I am Stithapragya (Stable intellect – centered) or not’. So he read out the second chapter; ‘stitha prajna shyaka bhasha samadhisthsya keshava, sthitadhih kim prabhasheta kimasita vrajet kim (chapter II Verse 54)’. With eyes closed, he listened to the ve ...

Why Kasturba? The wives of the Leading Indian nationalists lie shrouded in obscurity. Tagore, Nehru, Patel, Rajagopalachari, Bose, Ambedkar—in the meticulous documentation of their careers, their spouses figure scarcely at all.
