Congratulations to the Kansas City Royals a comeback win over the A's and the San Francisco Giants especially Madison Bumgarner with a 8-0 shut out of the Pittsburgh Pirates to win their Wild Card matches. More baseball tomorrow!
Well the first night of the MLBaseball Wild Card games was exciting. I unfortunately did not get to watch the game between the Oakland A's and the Kansas City Royals. I was listening to it for a bit when Oakland had scoresd 5 runs in the 6th inning to take a 7-3 lead, I thought the Royals were done. Later on I was watching SportsCenter on ESPN to find out the Royals scored 3 runs in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to tie the game and send it to extra innings. Well Oakland scored a run in the top of the 12th inning, but the Royals scored 2 in the bottom of the 12th to win it. Sorry Oakland A's fans, better luck next year. Tonight the SF Giants have a one-game play in Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This should also be an exciting game.
Colorado Rockies sign first baseman Justin Morneau to a two year, $13 million dollar contract. Morneau hit .259 with 17 home runs in 152 games for the Minnesota Twins & Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013. Free agent first baseman Corey Hart was medically cleared to resume all baseball-related activities. Hart did not play in 2013 after undergoing multiple knee surgeries. Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko will tell the White Sox whether he'll return, before the start of the Winter Meetings that begin on December 9. Konerko has been contemplating retirement, & has yet to make a decision about his future. Reports show that the Kansas City Royals offered a three year deal worth $48 million dollars to free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran.
Mr. O's Weekend Picks Sept. 20 to 23 Last Week's Total: 35-43-1. Season Total: 118-114-1. MLB Outlook: Three series with big time playoff implications get underway Friday night. Let's start with the fantastic race for both the NL Central Division title and the two NL Wild Card spots, which will almost certainly go to whoever doesn't win the Central. The St. Louis Cardinals have a one game over the Pittsburgh Pirates and a two game lead over the Cincinnati Reds for top spot in the division. The Pirates are hosting the Reds for three in what could be a WC preview, with both teams well in front of the Washington Nationals for the two spots. Having prevented a four game sweep by the visiting Padres on Thursday with a 10-1 win, it looks like the Pirates may have been looking ahead to the Reds. Cincy comes into the this game on the heels of sweeping the Astros in three games at Houston. Over in the AL all eyes will be on the Texas Rangers visiting the Kansas City Royals for three and a huge four-game set betwee ...
A great week for Robinson Cano (in his 9th big league season), going seven for seventeen (.412) in five games (not including tonight's Sunday night ESPN game). The Yankees didn't do as well winning only 1 game this week, and have lost their last four in a row. Cano's performance moved him up five spots on the all time hit list from 560th to 555th with 1,545 hits. This week he passes Mike Sweeney (1,540), Frankie Crosetti (1,541), Joe Randa (1,543), Tom Brunansky (1,543) and Cecil Travis (1,544). Next up on the list are César Tovar and Chick Stahl with 1,546 hits. Mike Sweeney played 16 seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics and Philadelphia Phillies from 1995-2010. Frankie Crosetti played 17 seasons, all with the New York Yankees, from 1932-1948. Joe Randa played 12 seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres from 1995-2006. Tom Brunansky played 14 seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, S ...

10 things to watch for in baseball in 2013. fans, answer these questions/statements. 1) Will the Pittsburgh Pirates halt their streak of 20 straight losing seasons? 2) Baltimore Orioles and Oakland A's need to prove they weren't flukes 3) Will the James Shields trade backfire for the Kansas City Royals? 4)Will Stephen Strasburg pitch without an innings limit? 5) Do the Los Angeles Dodgers have a better pitching staff NOW then San Francisco Giants 6)How will Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter bounce back from injuries? 7) Where will the newly revamped Boston Red Sox finish? 8) How much pressure is Miguel Cabrera under? 9) Will Josh Hamilton be booed Opening Day in Arlington? 10) Will R.A. Dickey be a stud or dud as a Blue Jay?
My fellow baseball fans...All jokes, disses, and trash-talking aside, I LOVE that teams like the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, and the Oakland A's are in the playoffs this year. I love that the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers were in the World Series last year and will be very good teams for years to come. I grew up in the era when these teams (except the Nationals) and others, like the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Kansas City Royals, routinely were great teams competing for the championship year in and year out. Yes I am a ride or die New York Yankees fan, but baseball needs this kind of competition, especially from teams that do not have the big budgets of the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Angels, or Dodgers. This year reminds me of football where on any given Sunday and in any given Super Bowl any team can win. Wish Major League Baseball had the kind of salary cap of other sports because the contracts have long been out of control and is one of the main rea ...
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are obviously big-market teams. The Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates are notoriously small-market clubs...
Posting only for baseball geeks: If the MLB post-season started today, which of course it doesn't, 2 of the 3 teams that have gone the longest without being in the post season would be in--the Washington Nationals as NL East champs (last and only time in post season as Montreal Expos in 1981) and Pittsburgh Pirates as NL Wild Card (last time in post-season in 1992). Who's the other one? Kansas City Royals, last time in post-season, 1985,
