Alcides Escobar had three hits and Omar Infante also drove in two runs for the Royals, who followed up a sweep at the hands of Minnesota last weekend by sweeping Houston and then taking the first of their three-game set against the Twins this weekend. Ricky Nolasco (1-2) gave up five runs on 11 hits in 5 2-3 innings for the Twins. He was coming off a 7-1 win over Kansas City in which he allowed one run on four hits in eight innings. Vargas (2-0), who signed a $32 million, four-year deal in the offseason, allowed seven hits while striking out four in another dazzling start. The crafty left-hander lowered his ERA to 1.24 while going at least seven innings in each of his four outings this season. Vargas put runners on base each of the first five innings, though ...
Now that's more like it. For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Twins rode outstanding starting pitching and an early offensive outburst to an easy victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday afternoon. This time it was Opening Day starter Ricky Nolasco setting the tone with eight innings of five-hit ball as the Twins rolled 7-1 at Target Field."In my opinion, he was in complete control the whole game," said Twins bench coach Terry Steinbach, who went 2-0 as acting manager with Ron Gardenhire in Ohio for a funeral.Nolasco, signed to a four-year, $49 million deal this winter, entered with a 9.00 earned-run average after getting hit around in Chicago and Cleveland in his first two starts.Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco delivers to the Kansas City Royals during the first inning of a baseball game in Minneapolis, Saturday, April 12, 2014. Today's News: New York Yankees traded infielder Eduardo Nunez to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for minor league LHP Miguel Sulbaran. Does the money make a good professional baseball team? Or is it the Manager that creates the winning team? Or a brand new Stadium? At the end of this year it will be interesting which team will win the Central Division. " Money is Power" comes to mind. How long will it take before the media and ownership blame Ron Gardenhire for the lack of wins for the Twins? "Fall Guy" comes to mind! Twins Fans your thoughts? 4 Detroit Tigers $148,414,500 8 Chicago White Sox $119,573,277 20 Kansas City Royals $79,491,725 21 Minnesota Twins $75,802,500 23 Cleveland Indians $73,724,300
My MLB Predictions AL Central 1. Detroit Tigers - Miguel Cabrera will have a Triple Crown Caliber Year. Verlander will have Cy Young year. Scherezer was one year wonder and I predict he gets 10 wins at best. Unfortunately with the loss of Iglesias and aging of Hunter and Martinez, Detroit will not get as many wins as they would like, but enough to take home the central. 2. Cleveland Indians - I Really Like there team this year. They have an all star caliber lineup with a great coaching staff. Unfortunately, Justin Masterson is not an ace Pitcher, but thankfully the hitting will make up for that. That's why they get second. 3. Kansas City Royals - Best Team in the League in 3 or 4 years. They aren't developed enough yet to be a contender in the post season. 4. Chicago White Sox - Don't expect too much fro them, they just started re-building 5. Minnesota Twins - I Don't really know what happend to these guys, they were awesome 4 years ago. It's time for Gardenhire and company to go
TODAY’S NOTABLE TEXAN PHILLIP HUMBER For FEBRUARY 27th 2014 Philip Gregory Humber (Born December 21, 1982, in Nacogdoches, Texas) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Chicago White Sox and pitched his first perfect game on Saturday. He played for the Rice Owls in college. He has pitched for the New York Mets (2006–2007), Minnesota Twins (2008–2009), Kansas City Royals (2010), and White Sox (2011–present). The Mets selected him with the third overall selection in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft out of Rice University. Phil Humber (The Pride of East Texas) struggled to establish himself in MLB. Humber grew up in Buncombe, Texas. When Humber was 11 years old, he visited the Chicago White Sox during Spring Training in Florida as the guest of Robert Ellis, a family friend of the Humbers, who then was a minor league baseball pitcher for the White Sox. Phil is now a rising MLB star and the city of Chicago is now in love with him.
Kansas City Royals have interest in free agent first baseman Kendrys Morales. Morales would cost the team that signs him a draft pick after declining a qualifying offer from the Mariners in November. Morales hit .277 (167-602) with 23 Home Runs in 156 games with the Mariners in 2013. Free agent RHP Carlos Marmol has discussed a major league deal with three different teams. Marmol went 2-4 with a 4.41 ERA in 52 games in 2013 between the Cubs & Dodgers. Cincinnati Reds may have interest in free agent outfielder Grady Sizemore. Sizemore last played in the Majors in 2011 with the Indians, hitting .224 (60-268) with 10 Home Runs in 71 games. Sizemore had back surgery during Spring Training of 2012 & has had a series of setbacks in his recovery. Baltimore Orioles sign outfielder Quintin Berry to a minor league deal. Berry appeared in 13 games with the Red Sox in 2013, hitting .625 (5-8) with one Home Run. Berry hit .191 (61-319) with three Home Runs in the minors in 2013. Minnesota Twins agreed to a minor leagu ...
Players, coaches and staff for the 2013 Kansas City Royals followed by the starting lineup on Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium against the Minnesota Twins.
Colorado Rockies sign first baseman Justin Morneau to a two year, $13 million dollar contract. Morneau hit .259 with 17 Home Runs in 152 games for the Minnesota Twins & Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013. Free agent first baseman Corey Hart was medically cleared to resume all baseball-related activities. Hart did not play in 2013 after undergoing multiple knee surgeries. Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko will tell the White Sox whether he'll return, before the start of the Winter Meetings that begin on December 9. Konerko has been contemplating retirement, & has yet to make a decision about his future. Reports show that the Kansas City Royals offered a three year deal worth $48 million dollars to free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran.

A great week for Robinson Cano (in his 9th big league season), going seven for seventeen (.412) in five games (not including tonight's Sunday night ESPN game). The Yankees didn't do as well winning only 1 game this week, and have lost their last four in a row. Cano's performance moved him up five spots on the all time hit list from 560th to 555th with 1,545 hits. This week he passes Mike Sweeney (1,540), Frankie Crosetti (1,541), Joe Randa (1,543), Tom Brunansky (1,543) and Cecil Travis (1,544). Next up on the list are César Tovar and Chick Stahl with 1,546 hits. Mike Sweeney played 16 seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics and Philadelphia Phillies from 1995-2010. Kansas City Royals' four homers boost Shields to victory Hosmer hits two jacks to help KC ace get first win since April 30 By *** Kaegel / MLB.com KCRoyals crush four homers in win over Twins MINNEAPOLIS -- Somebody pass the smelling salts. James Shields must have fainted from the shock. Not only did Shields get his first personal victory since April 30 -- almost two months ago -- but the Royals pounded a season-high four Home Runs for him as they beat the Minnesota Twins, 9-3, on Friday night at Target Field. Eric Hosmer had two of the homers and Billy Butler and Mike Moustakas each had one. "It's definitely a big weight taken off," Shields said. "The two-month anniversary was coming up on not getting a win. But this team has been grinding all season long. We've won the last six of my games and I have no doubt we're going to keep going up from here." Maybe this was the outburst the Royals have been waiting for to ignite their offense. If so, it couldn't have had a more appropriate beneficiary. In his pr ...

Kansas City Royals beat Minnesota Twins 4-1 to end 11-game home skid Kansas City, Mo. (AP) — Jeremy Guthrie lasted six shaky innings and the Kansas City bullpen held off the Minnesota Twins the rest of the way Wednesday night, wrapping up a 4-1 victory that ended the Royals' franchise-record 11-game home losing streak. It had been exactly one month since Kansas City won a game at Kauffman Stadium, a period marked by offensive ineptitude that had resulted in a precipitous slide into last place in the AL Central. It also marked the end for hitting coaches Jack Maloof and Andre David, and the return of George Brett to the dugout. The Hall Of Fame third baseman was appointed interim hitting coach last week, and while the results still haven't been great, the Royals may be finally starting to show a spark. The Twins jumped out to a first-inning lead off Guthrie (6-3), but the right-hander escaped a bases-loaded jam with the help of a nice catch by first baseman Eric Hosmer to prevent any additional damage. Why, why, why do I even bother rooting for the Cleveland Indians any more? Getting swept by the fourth place Minnesota Twins three straight games (by scores of 11-0, 12-5 & 5-1) and then getting swept again by the fifth place Kansas City Royals three straight. This after...the Tribe is 7-2 against the Detroit Tigers & 2-0 vs Justin Verlander whom they beat last Thursday to go 50-49 for the season. Now they're in third place 50-55 having lost six straight (outscored 55 runs -20 those six games) & 7 1/2 games out of first. Stick a fork in my Indians; they're definitely done (for the season)!

The one day is coming up that you absolutely do not bother me. Mark June 4th as the one day on the calender that I will isolate everything and everyone and have the doors sealed shut to my man cave and watch the 2012 MLB Draft. I feel sorry for the poor woman I get married to when she has to sit through and know that I will more than likely call out of work that day and not say a word to anyone or anything. The MLB Draft is basically my life on June 4th. With the first overall pick of the 2012 MLB Draft the Houston Astro's select Mark Appel out of Stanford University. With the second overall pick the Minnesota Twins draft Byron Buxton out of Appling County High School. With the Third Overall pick the Seattle Mariners draft Mike Zunino out of the University of Florida with the 4th overall pick the Baltimore Orioles draft Kevin Gausman out of Louisiana State University and with the 5th overall pick the Kansas City Royals select Kyle Zimmer out of University of San Francisco.
Here's a tip for the Cubs (even though I shouldn't let this secret out) If you want to beat the White Sox... the next time you play them... show up wearing either Minnesota Twins or Kansas City Royals uniforms... you should have no problems... and it won't hurt if Gavin Floyd is pitching
