Royals scores 3 runs in 13th to beat Angels 7-4 ... Danny Valencia was not about to let a sore left hand keep him from finishing his at-bat in the 13th inning. He gutted it out and came up with a key hit to help the Kansas City Royals outlast the Los Angeles Angels. Valencia ignited a three-run rally with a leadoff double, before Jarrod Dyson replaced him on the bases and scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by rookie reliever Mike Morin. The Royals went on to beat the Angels 7-4 Saturday night. "We're trying to win games and lay it all out there. Anybody else would have done the same thing," Valencia said. "Fortunately I got a hit there, because it would have looked even worse if I didn't." Valencia felt discomfort on two earlier swings and was checked out by manager Ned Yost and a trainer. After convincing them he was all right, he lined Morin's 3-2 pitch off the fence in left-center and slid headfirst into second. "There was a 3-1 pitch I fouled off and my hand slipped off the bat a little weird ...
Kansas City Royals topple Cleveland Indians 7-2 Kansas City, Mo. (AP) — Bruce Chen worked five innings and Salvador Perez doubled home two runs and the Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians 7-2 on Wednesday night. Chen was pulled in the sixth after giving up a single to Michael Bourn and walking Nick Swisher to lead off the inning. Francisley Bueno replaced Chen and recorded two outs with three pitches. After Jeff Kipnis advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, Bueno kept the runners put when Carlos Santana grounded out to third baseman Mike Moustakas. Louis Coleman came in and retired Ryan Raburn on a fly to right to strand the runners. Royals relievers Tim Collins, Will Smith and Greg Holland preserved the lead, allowing just one hit, to keep the team's playoff chances alive. The Royals broke the game open with three runs off four Indians pitchers in the eighth. Alcides Escobar had a two-run single, while Jarrod Dyson walked with the bases loaded. Rookie Danny Salazar (1-3), who had allowed ...
Ubaldo Jimenez, 3 homers lead Indians past Royals 4-3 CLEVELAND (AP) — Ubaldo Jimenez struck out 10 in seven innings and Asdrubal Cabrera, Yan Gomes and Carlos Santana each hit solo homers, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night in a matchup between two teams in the thick of the AL wild-card chase. The Indians, who won despite having only five hits, stayed even with Baltimore, 1 1/2 games back of Tampa Bay for the second wild-card spot. The Royals dropped to four games behind the Rays. Jimenez (11-9) allowed one unearned run and didn’t walk a batter. The right-hander left with a 4-1 lead after throwing 99 pitches, but Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer off Cody Allen in the eighth. Chris Perez survived a shaky ninth for his 23rd save, retiring Gordon on a fly ball with the bases loaded to end the game. The Indians have won six of eight. Salvador Perez led off with a single and Mike Moustakas walked on four pitches. Pinch-hitter David Lough’s sacrifice mov ...
Now on to one of my favorite teams of this year and if they can stay together the next 4-5 years. Kansas City Royals have some much young talent you might as well just say who needs a young cornerstone to their organization. The outfield should have Alex Gordan, Lorenzo Cain and Jeff Francoeur in left center and right, however if Jarrod Dyson shows a strong spring you might see him in one of those positions. The Infield has a question mark at second as Chris Getz and Johnny Giavotella will battle it out. I personally like Giavotella although Getz seems to start off stronger so he might earn the starting job to begin. There looks to be a couple of people trying to push Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar from third and short. Irving Falu and Tony Abreu and the two intruders. Don't expect either one to get in to the starting line-up unless they show an extremely strong spring and the other two come off soft. Eric Hosmer has first, Salvador Perez will catch and Billy Butler will be the DH. The rotation looks ...
Moustakas' RBI single lifts Royals over White Sox CHICAGO (AP) — Mike Moustakas stroked a go-ahead single in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The Royals plated both their runs with two outs in the 10th off Brett Myers (2-3), the seventh of eight White Sox pitchers in the game. The rally started after Alcides Escobar was thrown out, leaving the bases empty and two outs. Myers walked Billy Butler, who was replaced by pinch runner Jarrod Dyson. Salvador Perez, Moustakas and Jeff Francoeur then hit consecutive singles, the last two driving in runs. Kelvin Herrera (3-2) got the win after preserving a scoreless tie in the ninth by getting Alex Rios to hit into a double play with the bases loaded. Greg Holland walked two and gave up Gordon Beckham's RBI double in the 10th, but escaped with his 13th save by striking out Alejandro De Aza and Ray Olmedo with the tying run on third. One day after the first-place White Sox snapped a six-game losing ag ...
