Kaizer Chiefs' utility player, Siphiwe Tshabalala, has expressed his desire to enact revenge against Mpumalanga Black Aces in the upcoming MTN8 tie. The Amakhosi take on the side from Mpumalanga in this competition on August 3, and ‘Shabba’ has explained why he wants to get a positive result against Clive Barker’s team. Aces beat the Glamour Boys 1-0 in a PSL match last season – it turned out to be a result that eventually handed the Absa Premiership crown to Mamelodi Sundowns. Nonetheless, ‘Shabba’ has revealed why he wants the club to give AmaZayoni a real hauling over the coals. He told his official website, “The MTN 8 cup will certainly be one we aim to win. We are thinking positively and believe that this season we can do better. Our supporters deserve to be happy and that we will make sure they are.” He added, “I recall that they defeated us close to the end of the season in the recently concluded campaign. We played against a good and formidable side, so this time we will be prepa ...

The Premier Soccer League will be conducting a draw of next season’s Absa Premiership fixtures. With the season expected to start sometime in August, it seems the league officials are already in preparation mode trying to set everything up for what promises to be another exciting season. Among the fixture dates everyone will be having their eye on is both legs of the Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates; a game which attracts thousands to the FNB Stadium and often divides families and friendships. The teams remain as they were in the 2013/14 campaign, except for Chippa United who have made it back to the elite ranks, replacing relegated Golden Arrows. Mamelodi Sundowns will be wrestling to keep the title at Chloorkop next season, while a lot of the teams will be bolstering their squads ahead of the campaign. The draw will take place on Thursday at the PSL offices in Parktown. Absa Premier Soccer League Teams For 2014/2014: - AmaZulu FC - Ajax Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic - Chippa Un ...
Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Stuart Baxter, has admitted that there will be changes at Naturena, with a new attacker their number one priority. Despite featuring in six different competitions last season, the Amakhosi finished their 2013/14 campaign without a single piece of silverware, narrowly missing out on the PSL title by two points to Mamelodi Sundowns. With the 2014/15 season now just around the corner, there has been a lot said about possible incomings and outgoings at the club ahead of the new campaign. Baxter, who won the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup in his first season with Chiefs, has now explained that there will be some players leaving and some players coming in. Speaking to Chiefs’ official website while holidaying overseas he said, "There will be player movements where we think some players will be better served by moving to other teams. There will also be an opportunity created to promote some of the players from the development. We need strengthening in the attacking force where we mi ...
Mpumalanga Black Aces have confirmed the contract extensions of at least five of their players as they prepare for the 2014/15 season. AmaZayoni finished in incredible 7th place on the Absa Premiership table, in what was their first season in the PSL. Clive Barker is looking to keep the core of the squad that at different stages of the campaign brought the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns to their knees. The Siya crew recently revealed that Mbulelo Mabizela and Clifford Ngobeni have renewed their respective deals with the side, and now the club have confirmed that on their official website. “Clifford Ngobeni, Sandile Zuke, Bafana Nhlapo, Mbulelo Mabizela and Esau Mtsweni have all extended their stay at Aces. The rest of the team still have long to mid-term contracts with the club and negotiations with a few players are underway,” said the club. Meanwhile, Aces will be reporting for preseason on June 23, after which the entire squad will travel to Nelspruit on June 26 for a ...

Mamelodi Sundowns are keen to sign their product Keagan Dolly from Ajax CT following a great display by the Dolly who ultimately managed to win Absa Premiership Red Hot Young Player of the season. Dolly said he would rather join Kaizer Chiefs or move abroad should there any potential contract or remain at Urban Warriors for another season or two and Chiefs are also keen to sign him! Which club will be situable for him?

Orlando Pirates Football Club has topped the money list for total prize money earned in the 2013/14 season. For an organisation that had to endure the disappointment of losing in three cup finals, including the Caf Champions League against Al Ahly in November last year; Pirates finally secured a gold medal with a 3-1 victory over Bidvest Wits in the Nedbank Cup this past weekend. The Pirates players may have left the PSL Player Awards empty handed last night but they can hold their heads up high. The Mighty Buccaneers top the money list having amassed an impressive R21.55 million in prize money. Mamelodi Sundowns come in at number two with R15.55 million. The reigning Absa Premiership champions, collected R10 million for lifting the coveted Absa Premiership as well as R4.5 million for winning three out of the four Q-Innovation quarters. The rest of the R1.05 million was gained from their role in the Nedbank Cup (R400 000) and Telkom Knockout (R650 000). Platinum Stars round up the top three with their suc ...

COSMOS MISS NFD PLAY-OFFS Black Leopards qualified for the promotion play-offs after a 2-0 win over Jomo Cosmos in their crunch National First Division game at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Sunday. The result means Leopards join Milano United from Cape Town in a three-way battle to secure a place in the Absa Premiership next season. Milano beat NFD league winners and automatic qualifiers Chippa United 3-2, while Baroka FC, who were the other team still in the running to join the promotion/relegation scrap, fell short thanks to a 1-all draw with Thanda Royal Zulu. Leopards and Milano United will now play in a three-team mini-league with Polokwane City, the Premiership side that finished 15th on the log and will fight to remain in top flight football. Boebie Solomons's City, who lost to Supersport United on Saturday, face the possibility of dropping back to the NFD after just one season in the elite division. Starting on Wednesday, the three teams will play each other on a home and away basis, with the te ...
iefs mum on Musona deal 2014-05-13 11:11 Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs media and corporate communications manager, Vina Maphosa, says the club will not discuss player movement before the current season has officially ended. This follows recent speculation linking striker, Knowledge Musona, with a possible move to newly crowned ABSA Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns. The Zimbabwean international is currently on loan from German Bundesliga side, 1899 Hoffenheim. The deal is set to elapse at the end of June and it is not yet clear if the "Silent Assassin" will return to Europe or remain with the Phefeni Glamour Boys. "At the moment we cannot talk about the player movement because the season is still on," Maphosa told Sport24 in an exclusive interview. "The season has not officially ended as we speak. The season will end officially this coming Saturday after the Nedbank Cup. "We can only talk about that next week but I will have to first talk to the football manager of the team (Bobby Motaung) and hear ...

PSL Twenty-three goals were scored in eight games on the final day of the Absa Premiership season on Saturday. With champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, already decided after the mid-week game, much of the interest was focused on top eight positions and who would be in the relegation play-offs. Sundowns came up against a spirited Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium, and needed an injury team goal from captain Alje Schut to rescue a 1-1 draw after Heinrich Isaacks had given the Team of Choice an early lead. Second-placed Kaizer Chiefs ended their season with an emphatic 3-0 win over AmaZulu, third-placed Wits won 1-0 away at sixth-placed Bloemfontein Celtic, and Orlando Pirates made sure of a fourth-place finish with a 3-1 win over already-relegated Golden Arrows. Supersport United jumped to fifth with a 4-2 win over Polokwane City, who dropped into the play-off spot, after being leap-frogged by Free State Stars who beat Moroka Swallows 3-0. Mpumalanga Black Aces dropped to seventh after they lost 1-0 t ...
The University Of Pretoria will be eager to end the season on a high and subsequently derail Kaizer Chiefs chances of defending their Absa Premiership crown when the two meet at the Mbombela Stadium.
Kaizer Chiefs take on University Of Pretoria in a must-win clash for the Glamour Boys, if they're to stand any chance of defending their PSL title. Current leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, appear to have the Absa Premiership crown in their clutches, although there still could be some hiccups as the PSL f…
Those who follow soccer intimately will remember what I once wrote on Soccer Laduma, about Kaizer Chiefs standing a very good chance of losing both the Absa Premiership crown and the Nedbank Cup altogether for treating the Confederation Cup with contempt. Bidvest Wits condemned us to a humiliating penalty shootout defeat, which leaves me with a big question; Was Kaizer Chiefs winning double last season a fluke?
IT’S now win at all cost for Kaizer Chiefs! This is the attitude ahead of their crunch Absa Premiership showdown against struggling Free State Stars at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane tomorrow night (7.30pm). Chiefs, with three matches to play, have 56 points - five behind leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, who have two matches remaining. Chiefs head Coach Stuart Baxter believes it’s a win or bust game. “This is the big one as far as we are concerned,” Baxter told SunSport. “If we lose we can virtually kiss the title goodbye.” Amakhosi can now focus all their energies on retaining their league and Nedbank Cup titles after they were knocked out of the Caf Confederation Cup at the weekend, losing 1-0 in their play-off round, second leg tie to Asec Mimosas in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. They lost 3-1 on aggregate. Amakhosi play Bidvest Wits in the cup semifinal at Milpark on Saturday. Baxter’s decision to stay at home and prepare his senior players for the clash against Ea Lla Koto appears to have bee ...
Kaizer Chiefs announced that their star striker Knowledge Musona will be out of action for the rest of the season. The news came when Chiefs’ ambitions to defend their Absa Premiership title were under threat.

Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to close the gap between themselves and Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Absa Premiership when they lock horns with Bidvest Wits in a league match at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.
CHIEFS’ TRICKY ASSIGNMENT! Published: Wednesday, 2014/04/23 STAND up and be counted! That was the message that Kaizer Chiefs head Coach Stuart Baxter delivered to his players yesterday, ahead of their tricky Absa Premiership clash with Bidvest Wits at Milpark Stadium tonight (7.30pm). Baxter said their four remaining Premiership matches - starting with the showdown against third-placed Wits - will all be cup finals. Said Baxter: “We have four cup finals to play. Every game will be vital. We have to be prepared for some tough battles. I have told the players we can expect no favours.” Mamelodi Sundowns head the standings with 61 points with two games to play, followed by Chiefs on 55 and Wits on 51. Both Amakhosi and the Students have two matches in hand. Kaizer Chiefs are on the verge of winning both Nedbank Cup and the PSL title, yet they are also on the risk of a dry season. Do you think they can get something out of the remaining trophies up for grabs - Nedbank, Absa Premiership or both?
Mamelodi Sundowns drew level on points with log leaders Kaizer Chiefs after a hard fought 1-0 victory in their Absa Premiership encounter at the FNB stadium last night. Teko Modise scored the decisive goal with 15 minutes remaining to help his side to tie with Chiefs on 53 points. But Amakhosi hanged on to their top position due to their superior goal difference. The Soweto giants also have a game in hand having played 24 matches. Downs have stretched their league wins to six games to record their first league win over Amakhosi in two seasons. The atmosphere was electric with a crowed of over 65 000 at the 2010 World Cup Stadium cheering their respective teams on. Knowing that they had to win the match at all cost, the Brazilians were the quickest to get out of their blocks. They settled well in the early stages as Amakhosi battled to get their rhythm going. Lebogang Mokoena forced Itumeleng Khune into making a brilliant save as the Bafana goalkeeper tipped his shot over the bar to concede a corner in the ...
Baxter was never worried Kaizer Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter came to his players’ defence and explained the slow start in their 2-0 Absa Premiership win over Golden Arrows on Wednesday night. According to the Football411.com website, it was stuttering opening 45 minutes for Chiefs in front of goal, but second half goals from Erick Mathoho and Kingston Nkhatha saw them claim all three points on the night. Baxter admits there were a lot of factors going against his team on the night, but highlighted Chiefs’ busy schedule which has seen them in action almost every three days for the last week as they play catch-up in the league. Baxter, though, said he was never any doubt that his team would pick up the win on the night and praised his players for their performance. “Arrows gave certain resistance, the pitch was a little bit difficult to master and you have to remember we are coming back from a busy schedule and it is not easy, and playing against a team that is doing its best to try and stop you playing ...

ABSA Premiership | Post match Interviews Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 Golden Arrows Man of the Match: Willard Katsande "Yah, ah, it was not easy to play catch up games, we knew Arrows were not going be easy as they are looking at trying to escape the relagtion zone. "Yah, yah, yah, coach always told me about my play, told me to try to improve, play long and short, balance the game." Stuart Baxter (Kaizer Chiefs coach) "I think a little bit of both, the pitch is a bit bad, I think Supersport United also lost tonight, it's not easy coming from a loss in the CAF. I think the boys deserve a pound at the back for their performance tonight. "Well i think that has been part of the strength of the squad, we don't have front liners, we got players who do the job when they are in the field." Shaun Bartlet (Golden Arrows coach) "I'm still the same, like I said, we still have poitns to play for, the good thing is that teams around us are losing too. If you coming against a quality side like Kaizer Chiefs, you can't afford to ma ...

What are ur messages of support my anti-Kaizer Chiefs fans for last-placed Golden Arrows when they take on Kaizer Chiefs in a crucial Absa Premiership clash.I want Golden Arrows to compound Baxter's Kaizer Chiefs woes when they are still recovering from a 1 - 0 edging on aggregate by DR of Congo-based outfit AS Vita fc.If Golden Arrows win tonight they'd beaf up Sundowns' morale to go into the FNB stadium with full of tearing Kaizer Chiefs to shreds.
I have no doubt dat my Team Kaizer Chiefs can't make it to the next round of CAF!! Atleast We still have chance to defend Nedbank nd Absa Premiership!! Next season I think is where we should focus on CAF!! Riperini Khosi Fans
I would like to extend my gratitudes to the Sundowns players for a 'job well done' last after they mauled Platinum Stars by 3-1 in an Absa Premiership match.Lovely goals from veteran Suprise Moriri,Mokoena and Liberian Laffor made Bafana ba style lagging by a mere 3 points to the PSL log leader and Legue Champions Kaizer Chiefs.Honestly that was one of Absa Premiership matches I never anticipated Downs to win,but hopefully we made it över Platinum Stars unlike Kaizer Chiefs that was beaten by Dikwena by 2 góals to nile but they make noise saying they are the best whíle they are simply not.
Mamelodi Sundowns closed the gap to just three points of PSL leaders, Kaizer Chiefs:
Fact: Kaizer Chiefs have defeated each of the other 15 teams in the ABSA Premiership at least once this season.
Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese after seeing his side missing a host of scoring opportunities in a Nedbank Cup defeat to Maritzburg United “You cannot go around the goalkeeper three times and not be able to put the ball in the net. I don't know if they call that bad luck, or unlucky, or what it is.” Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt when asked how he has been getting the best out of former Kaizer Chiefs striker Sthembiso Ncgobo: ‘What have I done? I’ve stuck my size eight foot up his…you know what I mean, he’s a big lump, he needs to work harder, if he works harder he’ll improve, and he’s working harder.” AmaZulu coach Craig Rosslee after debutant Lucky Nguzana scored the only goal of an Absa Premiership game against Polokwane City last week "He's never trained with the team since signing, he's been on trial and played in some friendly games, but that's it…So he was thrown into the deep end. We took a risk and as they say, fortune favours the brave." Rosslee after seeing his side going d ...

This is the different btwin English Premier Leaque nd Absa Premiership in terms of the stats. There is a gap that won't evin be closed in our lifetime. It is all about top 3 all time goalscorers from top 3 teams from our respective premiership. ENGLISH PREMIER LEAQUE: Man Utd: Sir Bobby Charlton, 249 goals Arsenal: Thierry Henry 228 goals Chelsea: Frank Lampard 203 goals ABSA PREMIER LEAQUE: Mamelodi Sundowns: Daniel "Mambush" Mudau 155 goals Kaizer Chiefs: Marks "Go Man Go" Maponyane 85 goals Orlando Pirates: Albert "Bashin" Mahlangu 54 goals
Let's do the MATHS:read carefully with understanding. Downs, Chiefs battle not over yet Mamelodi Sundowns' latest home defeat by Orlando Pirates was, undoubtedly, a massive blow which gave Kaizer Chiefs a realistic chance of reclaiming the Absa Premiership glory thisseason. Mathematically, Kaizer Chiefs need to win only 9 of their remaining 11 games to get 70 points; on the other hand, for Mamelodi Sundowns to get to 70 points they must win all their remaining 12 games. If they win all their remaining games, this is what would happen. (See the mathematical calculations below, including the ones of Bidvest Wits, Supersport United and Orlando Pirates.) CALCULATIONS formula Games remaining: points remaining + points collected =maximum points Kaizer Chiefs • 11 games: 33 + 43 = 76 points Mamelodi Sundowns: •12 games: 36 + 34 = 70 points Bidvest Wits •13 games: 39 + 31 = 70 Points Orlando Pirates •14 games: 42 + 27 = 69 Points Supersport United • 10 games: 30 + 32 = 62 Points Looking at the above calc ...
... Ay... I feel like i grew up in the wrong place for football... The people nje in it dont understand it, the way it is being played here... Ishhh INFACT i was born in the wrong country... Only 3 Absa Premiership teams have their unique philosophies in their brand of football which they stick to and which can grace any league in Europe and do well... Kaizer Chiefs are on course to set a points record in the Absa Premiership if they maintain their current run of winning form. The Glamour Boys would set a new record which would break any figure achieved since the inception of the PSL era in 1996/97. Stuart Baxter's men are currently on a run which has seen the team put together an unbeaten streak of 13 matches in-a-row. The club have won 13 of their 19 matches played in the PSL, and have a win percentage of 75%. If they continue to win games at that percentage in a 30-game season, Chiefs would easily break the record. This would be the best return in the modern era and surpasses the 73% winning percentage achieved by the magnificent Mamelodi Sundowns sides of the 1998/99 and 1999/00 campaigns, in what was then a 34-team league. A 75% winning percentage would also see Chiefs easily smash their previous best points total in the PSL of 63 points. Amakhosi achieved this marker in their title-winning campaign of 2003/04. Interestingly, the Black and Gold hav ...
Is Katsande now a softie? 2014-02-21 ONE of the Premier League's hardmen might be turning into a "softie" - leading to a combination of relief and worry for his club coach. Willard Katsande, the regular no-nonsense Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, has not collected a yellow card in Amakhosi's four previous Absa Premiership matches, but has instead been singled out for man-of-the-match accolades. "He's got to find that balance between being committed and not getting yellow cards left, right and centre," said Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter after Katsande picked up another award in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic. At the start of the season Baxter described Katsande as a ticking time bomb and urged club football manager Bobby Motaung to sign Ugandan international Ivan Bukenya as backup. The Zimbabwean midfielder had denied that he was careless in his tackles and argued referees were targeting him. However, following what seems to be a different approach, Katsande has received praise as well as a warning fr ...
Baxter’s injury crisis Published: Tuesday, 2014/02/18 Stuart Baxter has a fitness headache with his strikers! Kaizer Chiefs need to make final calls on the injured first-choice duo of Bernard Parker and Kingston Nkhatha ahead of their Absa Premiership clash against Bloemfontein Celtic at FNB Stadium tomorrow night (7.30pm). Nkhatha scored but hurt his knee in the 1-1 draw against Black Africa in their Caf Champions League match in Windhoek on Saturday. Parker did not make the trip in order to nurse his ankle injury. Chiefs won the tie 4-1 on aggregate. Baxter is also not certain if recent signing Katlego Mphela is ready to start just yet because he's not match fit, preferring to slowly introduce him from the bench. The team is also assessing defender Morgan Gould (ankle) while left back is still a problem with Tsepo Masilela still not fit to play. Regular right back Siboniso Gaxa played at left back in Chiefs’ 2-2 league draw against Maritzburg United last week. Baxter said: “I’ll see how the situ ...

Maritzburg United will attempt and fail to deny Kaizer Chiefs a 10th successive Absa Premiership win when the teams meet at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday. Kick-off at 7pm
SuperSport jinx haunts Stuart Baxter 2014-02-05 | Mazola Molefe WHILE Kaizer Chiefs have embodied consistency with eight league wins in a row, Supersport United - their opponents in tonight's Absa Premiership clash in Polokwane - have been the exact opposite. This might be Stuart Baxter's chance to put one over his counterpart Cavin Johnson following three failed attempts in 18 months. Despite being placed third on the league standings and trailing Chiefs by 10 points, United have been up and down, said Baxter. Last week United suffered a shock loss against AmaZulu before picking themselves up and beating cross-town rivals University Of Pretoria three days later, while Chiefs haven't lost or drawn a match since November 23. But Baxter is yet to outsmart Johnson, who pushed Chiefs right down to the wire in last season's title race while he was in charge of runners-up Platinum Stars. "They [United] have really been up and down, haven't they? I think when they beat us [on August 31] they thought they had tu ...

Mphela move to Chiefs done in time Katlego Mphela is moving to Kaizer Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns after successfully negotiations to pay out the last six months of his contract before he joins AmaKhosi permanently next season, his agents said. It ends weeks on intense discussion over the future of 29-year-old striker between the two rivals and means Mphela is immediately eligible for Chiefs although highly unlikely to be suited up to play on Friday night when the log leaders go up against Moroka Swallows in the Absa Premiership. Mphela had already signed a pre-contract with the champions for next season but Chiefs have tried to get him on their books earlier. Initially they had hoped to sign him before the January 15 deadline for the upcoming African Champions League campaign but Sundowns first balked at the move. Etafia Home For Sick Father Moroka Swallows of South Africa goalkeeper, Greg Etafia is back home in Nigeria, on compassionate leave from his club, as the former Super Eagles star has to check on his father, who is said to be ill. The former Plateau United of Jos shot-stopper, who grew up in Kaduna, has received compassionate leave from his club to check on his ailing father, which means he will miss Friday’s Absa Premiership clash with Kaizer Chiefs at Dobsonville Stadium. Etafia, who has played 327 times for Swallows, since he joined in 2002, signed a contract extension with the PSL club earlier this month, which will keep him at Moroka for three more years. Now that he has travelled home to see his dad, Etafia will not return in time for the league encounter between top-placed Chiefs and sixth-placed Swallows, meaning his ever-present run this season will come to an end after 14 successive league appearances and two more in the Telkom Knockout. Instead, The Birds’ 33-year-old Serbian, Igor Bondzulic ...

An 8 point lead by Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Premiership...Amazing!!!
ABSA Premiership | Half-Time Score Mamelodi Sundowns 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs (Arendse 9' OG) Analysis: Mamelodi Sundowns have an upper hand when they get into the scoring areas, they look very offensive, while Chiefs seem to be dangerous on counter attacks when they turn defense into attack. Sundowns were unlucky not to have found the back of the net with Khune beaten from Modise's long range shot which found the crossbar, Chiefs got a soft goal from a free kick after Arendse brought down Masilela and from thatnset piece, it was Arendse again who deflected it into his own net to beat Mweene. If Sundowns continue to press Chiefs, they might be rewarded. The referee seems to be losing control of the game as we see tackles flying and he is shy to show marching order as the game is very physical. What are your views of the first half?

Kaizer Chiefs are fretting over the fitness of captain and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune ahead of Thursday’s crunch Absa Premiership tie at Mamelodi Sundowns. Khune didn’t feature for Bafana Bafana in their chaotic African Nations Championship loss to Nigeria on Sunday and, by yesterday, Amakhosi had still not received a full report from National Team officials about the extent of his injury. “We are in the dark,” said Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter about Khune’s supposed injury. “I spoke to Gordon (Igesund) and he said it was a slight injury … nothing to worry about. “That was on Friday. But then I was surprised he was written off for the game (against Nigeria). Our doctors got hold of (Bafana) doctors, but we have received nothing to support the diagnosis. No scans, nothing.” More confusion reigned when Baxter said he had spoken to Khune, who told him the injury “was not bad”, and the goalkeeper had also apparently declared himself fit. Whatever the case, Baxter is still unhappy that his ...

Bafana Bafana’s 2014 CHAN plans are in jeopardy! Kaizer Chiefs insist that their five players called up for the tournament taking place between 11 January and 1 February will not be released as Bafana prepare to hold a seven-day camp in Cape Town from Thursday. Last Monday Chiefs refused to release their players, but that decision was reportedly changed after Safa claimed an agreement with Chiefs had been reached. Now Amakhosi have given Safa the option of taking captain Itumeleng Khune, Tefu Mashamaite, Tshepo Masilela, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker only after their re-scheduled Absa Premiership fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on 23 January which is during the knockout stages of the CHAN competition. Chiefs spokesman Vina Maphosa said yesterday: “We still stand a chance of having our players excused for the tournament.” “The matter is not that straight forward because Bafana coach Gordon Igesund selected players even after writing to him and asking for the players not to be considered. ...

Wits are a different outfit from the days when Tefu Mashamaite played for them three seasons ago. Masha joined the Amakhosi from the Clever Boys three seasons ago; My first game against Wits since joining Chiefs was challenging. Back then, I had to face the guys I played with when I was still at Wits juniors and first team. Since then they have undergone drastic changes in personnel, coaching and the players. The only player left there is Sibusiso Vilakazi. Vilakazi, is a skilful player, very comfortable on the ball and makes intelligent runs. He is a dangerous player, that is why he is in the National Team, said the Bochum in Limpopo born defender. Wits racked up a second successive win by beating University Of Pretoria 1-0 at home in midweek; We beat Wits 3 1 last season at Mbombela Stadium. The game had all elements of an entertaining game. Chiefs confident ahead of Pirates clash 23 September By Jonty Mark Johannesburg – Stuart Baxter has acknowledged that Orlando Pirates’ intense schedule could give Kaizer Chiefs an edge when the two sides meet on Tuesday for a place in the MTN8 final. The Amakhosi coach rested several key players on Saturday evening as Chiefs survived some nervy moments to emerge with a 2-1 Absa Premiership victory over Platinum Stars. Pirates, meanwhile, were involved in their crucial African Champions League encounter with Al Ahly on Sunday, just 48 hours before their Heritage Day defence of a 1-0 lead fromthe first leg of the MTN8 semi-final. “When we lost (the first leg) I said I had been involved in two-legged affairs in Europe, and sometimes you think you win a game and it is a great result, then you see things that may or may not go in your favour,” said Baxter. “Pirates have got less rest and had full commitment with such an important game (against Al Ahly). “We now have a few players that may be freshe ...
Amakhosi’s Parker, Musona seal thriller 22 September By Jonty Mark Kaizer Chiefs (1) 2 Parker 20, Musona 68 Platinum Stars (1) 1 Tshabalala 45 Johannesburg - Knowledge Musona came off the bench to warm Kaizer Chiefs hearts on a cold spring night here on Saturday, the Zimbabwean’s astute header enough to see off a plucky Platinum Stars. Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter took a risk ahead of Tuesday night’s decisive MTN8 semi-final clash with Orlando Pirates, resting several key names against last season’s Absa Premiership runners-up. It hardly seemed to matter as Chiefs dominated the early stages, taking the lead through Bernard Parker’s excellent volley. But Tintswalo Tshabalala levelled for Stars on the stroke of half-time, and it was Dikwena, in decent early season form and unbeaten until on Saturday, who seemed the more likely to grab a winner. Musona, however, proved his worth when thrown into the fray, and flicked home Parker’s corner for his second goal in three matches to send Amakhosi level o ...

Amakhosi won their first league title in eight years last season, under first-time PSL Coach Stuart Baxter. Instrumental in their double success - they also lifted the Nedbank Cup - were some of their signings made in pre-season, including Mulomowandau Mathoho, Kingston Nkhatha, Siboniso Gaxa and even the injury-plagued Morgan Gould. Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung said he could neither confirm nor deny that Amakhosi will make only two major signings. Chiefs and Supersport United have been keen to lure the player back to the PSL after it was revealed he would leave German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the next transfer window. But Nigel Munyati, a director of Harare-based Aces Youth Academy where Musona was developed before joining Chiefs in 2009, insists Belgium or Netherlands will be his next destination. “He will not return to South Africa, that will be retrogressive,” Munyati told the Daily News. “He will definitely stay in Europe. NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR PAGELS, BUT GOOD FOR HAMBURG ZIMBABWE international midfielder, Willard Katsande, is reaping immediate rewards for his stellar season in South Africa and could seal a blockbuster move to Bundesliga side Hamburger SV. Katsande was one of the standout players for South African Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs as the Amakhosi won a League and Cup double. The Zimbabwe midfielder enjoyed good reviews in the Absa Premiership with his Coach Stuart Baxter, an Englishman, saying the anchorman was the best defensive midfielder in Super Diski. Zimbabwean players appear to have turned the anchorman role at the Amakhosi into their portfolio. Before Katsande's arrival that position, for close to a decade, was monopolised by another Zimbabwe international, Tinashe Nengomasha. Baxter singled out Katsande among the five outstanding players who drove Chiefs to the League and Cup double. There have also been a public outcry here for the gritty midfielder to be included in the Warriors' squad, which begin ...

HARDLY a week after being put on transfer by Kaizer Chiefs, right-back Tlou "Spanner" Molekwane has attracted interest from three Absa Premiership sides. Sowetan has learnt that Bidvest Wits, Black Leopards and newly promoted University Of Pretoria are chasing the signature of the soft-spoken Molekwane, who has played for all three junior National Teams. The Seshego-born Molekwane was among the eight players off-loaded by Chiefs on Monday as part of the club's rebuilding process following the hiring of former Bafana Bafana Coach Stuart Baxter. The other seven players released by Amakhosi are Lucky Khune, Steven Ncanana, Dominic Mateba, Siyabulela Songwiqi, Brent Lawler, Kabelo Metsimetsi and Thela Ngobeni. "I have heard that there are some PSL clubs who want to sign me, but I have no comment to make at this stage on that matter. It is being handled by my agents," said Molekwane, whose stay at Chiefs was hampered by injuries. Regarded by South African Football Association technical director Serame Letsoaka ...

A clever finish by Bernard Parker early in extra-time helped Kaizer Chiefs complete a trophy double with a 1-0 victory over Supersport United in the Nedbank Cup final in Durban on Saturday. With the scores locked at 0-0 after regulation time, the Bafana Bafana striker scored in the 94th minute from just outside the area, handing Amakhosi the title for the 13th time in their history, and the first in seven years. It ended a fine first season in charge for Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter, who last week guided them to their first Absa Premiership crown in eight seasons. The game, which was tense for most parts, started out feistily, with both sides hardly shy to stick a foot in, and referee Zolile Mthetho finally lost his patience by cautioning Bevan Fransman. Some half-chances arrived when Sibusiso Zuma’s dangerous cross in the ninth minute was cleared away at the near post, while Lehlohonolo Majoro was caught off-side when he fired straight at Ronwen Williams. There was a better opening for the Pretoria side ...
Pretoria University sent two scouts 2 Zimbabwe on Sunday one day aftr beating Kaizer Chiefs in their last Absa Premiership match of e season
Baxter has silenced his detractors By Nkareng Matshe Johannesburg – More than a year ago, Kaizer Motaung made a decision that took many by surprise. It was towards the end of the 2011/2012 season, with Kaizer Chiefs almost out of the title race but still in with a chance to win the Nedbank Cup. Out of the blue, he dramatically fired then Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic, announcing the Serb would leave Naturena immediately as Doctor Khumalo and Ace Khuse took charge to complete the season. In the Mbombela Stadium pressroom on Saturday, with Motaung having just seen his team crowned the Absa Premiership champions, the Chiefs supremo stated the celebrations were as a result of his unpopular decision to axe Vermezovic in April 2012. “At that time we decided to take stock of where we were and where we were going. We then made changes late in the season. The coach we had at the time was young, and we thought he would stay for a long time. But the demands of this club were just too big for him. This is a bi ...
South African Premiership side University Of Pretoria assistant coach Selaotse Mosala and the club chief scout Paul Matthews, who are looking for players to beef up their squad, were at the National Sports Stadium yesterday. Amatuks finished eighth in the Absa Premiership following their 1-0 victory against newly-crowned champions Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday. But the newboys are definitely not resting and yesterday coach Steve Barker’s deputy was immediately dispatched to Zimbabwe to watch the match between CAPS United and Dynamos and identify some good players. After watching the derby, which did not really explode into life, Matthews, who is the head of scouting and recruitment, said their visit had been fuelled by the exploits of the Zimbabweans at their club. University Of Pretoria is home to former Dynamos goalkeeper Washington Arubi and Lionell Mtizwa, who was on loan from neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns. They also have a Zimbabwean in their technical team - goalkeeper’s coach Tendai Tanyanyiwa. Matt ...
To share: These five men played a huge role in winning Kaizer Chiefs the 2012/13 Absa Premiership title … 1)Itumeleng Khune The AmaKhosi goalkeeper has helped Chiefs concede just 20 goals in their 29 matches to date, the best defence along with Orlando Pirates. His excellent shot-stopping qualities, great leadership and ability to get the team on the front-foot with his distribution from the back is first-class. He is our Player of the Season. 2)Tefu Mashamaite The centre-back was not expected to feature that much this season with the arrivals of Morgan Gould and Erick Mathoho at the club, but long-term injuries to the former offered him his chance. And he accepted the good fortune with both hands and has been a rock at the back for the AmaKhosi. Our standout Defender of the season. 3)Reneilwe Letsholonyane The robust box-to-box midfielder has been superb again, playing almost every match for AmaKhosi bar the time he spent out with suspension. His work on defence and attack is excellent and he covered a ...
