Justin Masterson & Chris Perez

Justin Daniel Masterson (born March 22, 1985) is a right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Cleveland Indians. Christopher Ralph Perez (born July 1, 1985) is a right-handed relief pitcher for the Cleveland Indians. 5.0/5

Justin Masterson Chris Perez Nick Swisher Jason Kipnis Joe Smith Cleveland Indians Cody Allen Matt Albers Asdrubal Cabrera Michael Brantley Justin Smith Drew Stubbs Progressive Field Vinnie Pestano White Sox Miguel Cabrera Shane Victorino Tito Francona

The starting 5 of Nick Swisher, Jason Kipnis, Cody Allen, Justin Masterson and Chris Perez's dog could be the Cavs right now
I've read a lot of people calling for Justin Masterson to replace Chris Perez as the closer next year so here is my take on it. Converting a solid all star starting pitcher to one inning relief duty would be a waste of a great arm. Masterson is much more valuable starting every fifth day than pitching one inning when the team is ahead. Dump Perez and make either Carlos Carrasco or Cody Allen the ninth inning man. Both have a hard fastball and unlike Masterson Carrasco hasn't had success in the rotation.
For those of you with the MLB At-Bat app, you can stream every game tonight - except the Indians game if you're in the Cleveland area - for free. I can't wait to see if the Angels will beat the Rangers tonight. On a side note, it has been determined that Chris Perez will NOT be the Tribe closer anymore, and it's doubtful if he'll even make another appearance as long as the Indians can keep winning. It looks as though it's going to be coming down to either Joe Smith or Justin Masterson, depending on how the game goes. Tito Francona may even decide to use them interchangeably from game to game Meanwhile Nick Swisher gets his 26th double of the season with one out. Jason Kipnis is a Twins killer, batting .403 with 23 RBI against them, and he's at it again with his third triple of the year and his 24th RBI.. Let's buckle in for another one of those games.

Justin Masterson should take over for Chris Perez: Question of the day responses
Methinks we have seen the last of Chris Perez in a Tribe uniform. So how should Tito deal with the 9th inning for the rest of 2013? My vote is Justin Masterson. Discuss...
Justin Masterson just retired the side in order with two strikeouts in the 9th! Might be the answer to the Chris Perez problem. Indians beat the White Sox 14 straight times equally the record of 14 straight over the 1960 Kansas City A's
Not sure if the Indians will make the playoffs, but this team is getting better. Here is how they were built: PLAYERS DEVELOPED BY THEIR FARM SYSTEM – Pitchers Cody Allen, Josh Tomlin, Vinnie Pestano, and Danny Salazar, third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall and second baseman Jason Kipnis. In each of the following trades, the Indians traded pending free agents or other veterans and received players still in the minor leagues, or, in cases such as Justin Masterson and Chris Perez, were in their first or second years in the big leagues. 2006 – First baseman Eduardo Perez to the Mariners for shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera. 2008 -- Casey Blake to the Dodgers for Carlos Santana, prompting Keith Law of ESPN to write that this was a trade the Dodgers would “regret for a long time.’’ 2008 – C.C. Sabathia, who was a free agent at the end of that year, to Milwaukee for Michael Brantley, Matt LaPorta, Rob Bryson and Zach Jackson. Sabathia then signed with the Yankees. 2009 – Victor Martinez, a free agent at the ...

Indians CEO Paul Dolan explains his team's thought process following a 68-94 season in 2012 and says that a total rebuild was not an option, Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "None of us wanted to think about tearing it down. Our goal is to put together a team to win a World Series. Another goal is to avoid 20 years of losing, which some smaller-market teams have endured." The Indians did trade outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, but rather than also dealing veterans like Asdrubal Cabrera, Chris Perez and Justin Masterson, the team spent heavily on free agents like Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher. Here are more notes from Pluto's interview with Dolan. Dolan expresses "a high degree of confidence" in team president Mark Shapiro and GM Chris Antonetti, even though the Indians haven't had a winning season since 2007. Dolan also confims that the Indians offered a four-year, $43MM deal to outfielder Shane Victorino, who ended up going to the Red Sox for three years and $39MM. Dolan says he didn't want t ...
Had such an awesome Sunday! Went to Goodyear to see the Cleveland Indians training camp. Didn't do pictures, because there was a huge fence between the players leaving to go home and the fans...we were by the cars. But, I couldn't believe how many players we met. We got cards signed by: Drew Stubbs, David Huff, Matt Albers (former Dback from last year), Justin Masterson, Frank Herrmann, Zach McAllister, Vinnie Pestano, Chris Perez, Nick Hagadone, and Trevor Bauer (total sweetheart...so happy to finally get the chance to meet him!). We had so much fun today!!!
The Indians today avoided arbitration with Matt Albers, Joe Smith, Chris Perez and Justin Masterson with one year contracts for 2013
Tribe Musing: The Tribe signed 6 players to one year contracts: "closer Chris Perez, starter Justin Masterson, outfielder Drew Stubbs, catcher Lou Marson and relievers Joe Smith and Matt Albers," so it looks like the team is starting to come together here. Never heard of outfielder Drew Stubbs and don't remember Matt Albers, but glad to see the other 4 are signed, sealed and delivered.
The will consider making deals for Justin Masterson, Shin Soo Choo, and Chris Perez this offseason.
