A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture: We are now in Ordinary time, but the 2005 film "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas), based on an actual Christmas Truce declared during WWI, relates well to today's readings. [An unnecessary early scene prevents the film from falling in the family viewing category] On Christmas Eve of 1914, French and Scottish troops on one side joined German troops on the other in singing Christmas carols, sharing wine, showing pictures of loved ones and family, and engaging in a spontaneous soccer game. Having encountered "the enemy" face to face, they discovered friends and brothers. They were unable to resume killing each other, and were removed from the Western Front. In today's first reading from the Letter to the Hebrews, Psalm 95 is cited: "Oh, that today you would hear His voice, harden not your hearts." (listen to this in song/3min:10sec) The Holy Spirit addresses those who refuse to surrender to Him, those frozen in their perceptions of reality. Often it is fear that prevent ...

"As we approach western Christmas and as we approach the centennial of the First World War next year, I would like to highly recommend a French film called "Joyeux Noel", about the WWI Christmas Truce, when, for a brief time around Christmas 1914, troops on the opposing sides of the western front lay down their arms, sang Christmas carols and treated each other as human beings. The generals were afraid that peace might break out and the troops refuse to kill each other. Sadly that did not happen and Europe's suicide continued, but the story is important and powerful, a last gasp of humanity and sanity by a dying civilization." Chad Husby
Favorite Christmas Film? "Joyeux Noel" Academy award winner and Golden Globe best foreign film. based on true story from World War I. Your favorite Christmas film? (True, I do receive royalities on "Ernest Saves Christmas" for my riveting portrayal of Animal Control Officer number 2, of course, Jackie Welch defined the role as Animal Control Officer number 1 and I did once again just follow her lead as I did when she was the front of Babar and I was his, well, rear end. I learned back in 1980 to follow her lead and when I have strayed from her lead, I have suffered the consequences.)
Not many days are left for Christmas when once again this world shall speak of humanity and of religion...hardly any movies so subtle in reality as would Joyeux Noel (best foreign film nominated in Cannes in 2005) has given me of late...In 1914 when the seed of world war 1 had started to ripe oozing out the blood of insanity in fronts of Europe, somewhere in France on Christmas, The Germans, French and the Scotsmen all laid down their rifles behind the trenches and celebrated altogether this day in NO MAN'S LAND...so clandestine in their brethren feelings for one another...that each battalion were forced to another fronts where they had to pay the price for humanity for making friendships unimaginable by their Political fetters for power.
Bonjour, any chance you can drive back east via Flin Flon? if not Joyeux Noel et gros baiser a toi et ta famile
Our very last film this semester is Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) (Carion, 2006). Here is a description of the movie from the DVD release: "Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee for Best Foreign Film, Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) tells the true-life story of the spontaneous Christmas Eve truce declared by Scottish, French and German troops in the trenches of World War I. Enemies leave their weapons behind for one night as they band together in brotherhood and forget about the brutalities of war. Diane Kruger (Troy), Daniel Bruhl (Good Bye Lenin!) and Benno Furmann (The Princess and the Warrior) head a first-rate international cast in a truly powerful, must-see film." Per usual, the showing will be on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Lake Michigan Hall, Room 114. Admission is free.

Hey there! As we are in the Christmas spirit, we are taking a break from our weekly quiz, and instead we are providing you with some interesting fun facts about Christmas. Let's start with our dear old friend- Santa Claus. - Santa travels around a lot on Christmas Eve. Here are a few versions of “Merry Christmas” in different languages: Feliz Navidad (Spanish), Froehliche Weihnachten (German), Joyeux Noel (French), Kala Christouyenna (Greek) and God Jul (Swedish). - Santa is a man of many names - Just in the United States, Santa also is called St. Nick and, sometimes Kris Kringle. He’s called Father Christmas in England, Christkindli in Switzerland, Pere Noel in France, Babbo Natale in Italy and Weihnachtsmann in Austria. Finally, where would Santa Claus be without his trusty Reindeers, so here are some Reindeer facts for you. - There are about five million reindeer in the world. - Santa’s ninth reindeer was originally named Rollo — and then Reginald — before Robert L. PEOPLE CAN THINK FOR THEMSELVES...An unusual Christmas message of Hope for truthers WHAT? For those who know me well, they are probably wondering, WHAT!? I have tended to be rather lukewarm towards the day that was chosen to celebrate Christ’s birth, because of its occult connections. Anyway, my message is not about Santa, or gifts, or eggnog, or the occult ties to the holidays. It is about what happened in WW I around Christmas, between Allied and German troops. In 2005, a foreign film was released in Belgium, France and Germany entitled Joyeux Noel (which translates Merry Christmas) and has English subtitles for those of us who didn’t learn French. German troops began singing Christmas carols, and the other side joined in and after a while, the troops who had been slaughtering each other like sheep, became humans and quit fighting each other and became friends. After Christmas, men from both sides protected each other by warning the other side when artillery barrages were coming and allowing the ot ...
Oh what a beautiful mor-ning! Just hit forty degrees and the sun is shining in a bright blue sky. Back from running errands. Town is in the multi-holiday spirit. Gathering of walkers, runners and fun runners at the railroad station waiting for the start of the annual Turkey Trot. Santa's hut has been delivered to Main Street at Cate Park (ready for opening day 2012 after next Saturday's Christmas parade) and at Hunter's Market they are hanging out the Christmas wreaths for sale. Chuck and I have been looking at the many holiday events we'll miss (Tuba Christmas, Clearlakes Chorale, Little White Church concert, to name but a few) at the same time we are looking forward to heading to Canada on Monday where we can wish folks a Joyeux Noel and then next weekend experience how they do it (Christmas) in Vancouver and then Seattle and finally California... My favorite part of this season though is getting together with friends and we have already, under the auspices of bon voyage, begun that tradition. Yesterday ...
Just watched the movie, Breaker Morant again. About some past savagery by the "New World Order" in their Supreme Total War Crimes against Humanity (the period before Joyeux Noel's subject, and long before "No-Man's Land"'s subject matter). Only difference between Morant and me is that I NEVER followed their vicious orders (to rape, pillage, murder, etc even women and childfren) in the first place. Which is probably why he was strung up formally, whereas they ruthlessly continue to terrorise me behind closed doors, and, despite 2 "invitations" to successive PMs, haven't got the BALLs even to NUKE me (though quite happy to murder MY friends etc). So I repeat that "They won't abide by Rule of LAW,/So I despise them all the more./They ever trash the Golden Rule:/I KNOW them as the Villest FOOL." "
for all those who still think war in heroic & holly .please watch "The thin red line"."Joyeux Noel "
