Henry Melton to visit with Seahawks Posted by Josh Alper on March 14, 2014, 8:34 AM EDT Minnesota Vikings v Chicago Bears Getty Images The Seahawks have been dealing with a lot of activity on their defensive line since winning the Super Bowl. Michael Bennett and Tony McDaniel re-signed, Chris Clemons and Red Bryant landed in Jacksonville after being released and Clinton McDonald signed with the Buccaneers, but it doesn’t look like they’re done looking for moves up front. Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that defensive tackle Henry Melton is traveling to Seattle to meet with the team. Coming off a torn ACL, Melton may provide the team with an opportunity to repeat their successful strategy with Bennett last season. Bennett signed a one-year, $5 million deal that positioned him for a bigger payday this offseason and Melton might favor a similar opportunity with the knee injury in the recent past. Playing on a talented Seahawks defense would position him to look good and put up the kind of performance tha ...
The Washington Redskins' search for a new head coach, which once looked like it would take weeks, ended Thursday when the team agreed to hire Jay Gruden, a league source told ESPN. Gruden had been scheduled to interview for the Minnesota Vikings coaching vacancy Thursday before he agreed to become the Redskins' coach. He is expected to be introduced Thursday afternoon. The team has called a 4 p.m. ET news conference. He replaces Mike Shanahan, who was fired the day after the team's season ended. Gruden becomes the sixth coach hired by owner Dan Snyder in his 15 years; none have lasted more than four years. Gruden, the Cincinnati Bengals' offensive coordinator, interviewed with Washington on Wednesday, one day after meeting with the Tennessee Titans. He also had a visit scheduled with the Detroit Lions. Hue Jackson told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he has accepted the job to become the Bengals' new offensive coordinator. He had been serving as the club's quarterbacks coach. Gruden has deep ties to numerous ...
Lovie Smith has final say on roster... Lovie Smith's contract contains a clause that gives him final say over all personnel matters on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 53-man roster, according to league sources. That control is something Smith did not officially have in Chicago when he was the Bears' head coach. Smith will be formally introduced as the Buccaneers' coach Monday. As for hiring a general manager, many around the league believe Smith ultimately will hire Kansas City's director of pro personnel Chris Ballard, whom he worked with in Chicago. Leslie Frazier will be the next defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Minnesota Vikings coach told ESPN's Josina Anderson. Former California head coach Jeff Tedford will be the Buccaneers' offensive coordinator. The Buccaneers fired coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik last week after finishing 4-12.
Apparently, it isn't taking long for Lovie Smith to assemble his staff with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs named Smith the new head coach on Thursday. On Friday, ESPN's Josina Anderson reported that recently fired Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier is going to be Smith's defensive...
Source: Peterson expected to play vs. Panthers - Vía ESPN - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is still expected to play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, two days after the death of his 2-year-old son, a source close to the situation told ESPN's Josina Anderson.
Amid reports that Percy Harvin will be shopped this offseason, at least one member of the Minnesota Vikings would like the team to craft a deal to keep the electric receiver on the roster. A Vikings team source told ESPN's Josina Anderson on Wednesday, "I don't think we should be at the point of being done with" Harvin. "He is a star athlete who is a great player," the source said. "Is he a volatile guy? Yes. Can he be managed? Yes. For me, he is not an issue. You just have to be able to deal and manage star players." So with half the Vikings playing staff wanting to keep Harvin. Should the front office listen?
Percy Harvin may ultimately decide not to report to offseason workouts and training camp in an attempt to get a new deal from the Minnesota Vikings. But holding out apparently will not solve Harvin's contract situation, a high-ranking Vikings source told ESPN's Josina Anderson. ProFootballTalk.com reported Monday that Harvin is preparing to "stay away" from team workouts and training camp unless he receives a new deal. "As far as holding out, that's not something that I've heard he definitely will do at this point," the source told Anderson. "But I wouldn't be surprised if they're throwing out threats -- that's what agents do. "However, when you are under contract, the team controls the situation, not the player. I hope he doesn't think a tactic like that would work if that's what he's thinking." The 24-year-old Harvin is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Vikings and is set to make $2.9 million in 2013. The high-ranking Vikings source told Anderson that Harvin classifies himself amon ...
Minnesota Vikings tailback Adrian Peterson had surgery Thursday to repair a sports hernia, the team announced. The Vikings began listing Peterson on their injury report with an "abdomen" injury before their Week 15 game at the St. Louis Rams (he ran for 212 yards in that game). The 2012 NFL MVP, however, told ESPN's Josina Anderson in a telephone interview on Thursday that he suffered the injury in Week 11 against the Lions, "but I didn't know the extent I was hurt then." "I just remember getting twisted up pretty bad in an awkward position. My jersey never moves like that. I don't know if it was from a tackle or from me pulling away from someone. I just remember thinking when I saw my jersey like that, that I must've gotten twisted up pretty bad. That next day I felt very uncomfortable in my groin and abdominal area. I thought to myself I'll just wait until I recover but I never did," he said. Peterson finished the season with 2,097 yards, the second most in NFL history. He also participated in the Pro B ...
